There is no shame in having to ask or to ask first instead of trying the manual or docs. I dont think the patch notes could have been clearer, but since you think otherwise maybe we can take this as an example how they could be improved?
i too like to research, but im finding it more and more apparent that i am being asked by others about what this means and what that means. put it this way do people ask "how does an iphone work" or do they just try it and see... because even though there is code behind it. its done without using buzzwords. that have no laymen meaning when communicating its usefulness away from the sourcecode. EG does UTXO (saving typing just 3 less keys on a keyboard) really make things better. "unspents" just makes more sense. Probably, yes at least depending on the one you talk to. there is ultimately no reason in any way possible that the word UTXO should have any preference when used in public bitcoin communications
Well, its a grown term and it grew from those very familiar with bitcoin. We might need new terms over time, I agree, but I dont think patch notes are the right place to introduce them. bitcoin core can have real complex code but then make very simple explanations to bring it down to laymens prospective. i have spent the last 2 years atleast translating code into laymens and it is starting to get apparent that although core pretends to want decentralization and pretends to add features to make more available to the majority, but always fails in the description and details to gain that growth
EG my background is in the coding of adding comments and also having separate documentation for pseudocode and procedure charts to bring the code down to a level anyone can grasp. including case-scenarios and analogies
i have asked a few of the dev coders, aswell as some of the famous youtubers who like to simplify bitcoin and even a few in the bitcoin foundation to do something about opening up bitcoins understanding to the masses. yet even now bitcoin core seems to want to remain as the closed off centre of bitcoin that does not want to share or be part of the community.
I have to assume here, because I didnt talk to anyone about this, but I would assume that its not that they dont want the results. Doing this kind of work sounds like something coders hate. Many coders I know claim their code can be read without comments, docs or all that other "nonsense". They of course fail to see that someone might not be able to read the code if they are not familiar with that language or at least a variety of other languages. Im pretty sure though that any project (be that core, classic or any of the others forks) would gladly welcome results. its got nothing to to with my lack of understanding or research and more so about the general public endlessly asking questions.
blockstream aka bitcoin core really need to work on their communications, because even their number one fan, Lauda seems to have failed to grasp it
I dont think this is limited to any specific project within bitcoin. I have to say the patch notes for classic 0.11.2 are simple[1], but there is also nothing overly complex to pitch. The roadmap on the other hand is very vague[2] and I am e.g. not sure what "Software based on Bitcoin Core implementation 0.11.2 and 0.12.0." should tell me. There is no information about which parts are picked and which are not, e.g. does classic include pruning? Yes, I agree cores patch notes could have been easier. Patch notes in 'simple language' might be a good idea (for any project), but unless someone volunteers to do the work I dont think it will happen. Was mich jetzt nur etwas wundert, ist die Tatsache, dass ich bei der Portweiterleitung via UPnP und bei dem TOR Socks5-Proxy die Finger von lassen sollte, weil ich mich halt nicht genau auskenne.
Ich denke, dass ich da vielleicht mal anhaken könnte, um auch da mal etwas rum zu fummeln  Klar, im schlimmsten Fall biste halt offline. Portweiterleitung UPnP:
damit schickt der Client Informationen an deinen Router und der Router richtet automatisch (wenn es auf dem Router konfiguriert ist) ein Portforward gebraucht. Hier aber aufpassen, wenn man nicht weiss was es ist, nicht nutzen. Ich habe ne Static IP und im Router habe ich den Port:8333 weitergeleitet zudem könnte ich den Port auch noch Triggern.
Wäre die Triggerung in diesem Fall nicht sinnvoll? Der Client könnte dann bei Bedarf ein Signal an den Router senden und dieser leitet dann im Bedarfsfall die Pakete weiter. Ich denke aber, dass die normale Portweiterleitung von Paketen aus dem Internet über den Port zum Client dann abgeschaltet werden kann, oder sehe ich das falsch?Du hast vermutlich intern eine statische IP, aber ist hier relativ egal. uPnP war in der Vergangenheit immer wieder eine Möglichkeit Unfug anzustellen (u.a. auch bei bitcoin core), von daher würde ich davon im Allgemeinen abraten. Wenn Du ohnehin schon Port Forwarding eingerichtet hast, bringt dir das ohnehin nichts. Mehr als einen Port 8333 kannst Du ja nicht auf machen. TOR Socks5-Proxy:

Ja, Core kann so konfiguriert werden das es nur (oder auch) über Tor ins Netz geht. Daher auch die 2 möglichen Proxies @Bytekiller. Damit kann man einen "regulären" proxy nutzen z.B. für IPv4&6 und einen für Tor. Welche Vor- bzw. Nachteile ergeben sich eigentlich dann daraus im Gegensatz zum ClearWeb?
Die selben wie sonst auch. Deine IP ist den peers nicht bekannt (wenn Du nur über Tor verbindest), du ermöglichst es anderen über Tor mit dir zu verbinden und bist Freiwild für NSA und FBI (woraum auch immer die das so sehen). Ist es überhaupt sinnvoll ausschließlich über das DarkNet einen Node zu betreiben bzw. zu syncen und Transaktionen durch zu führen?
Keine Ahnung was ich dazu sagen soll, außer: kommt drauf an. Um anonym zu bleiben ist es sinnvoll. Ich nutzen z.B. für Mycelium auf dem Handy im Normalfall einen Tor Tunnel. Bei schlechter Verbindung funktioniert dann gerne mal gar nichts mehr. Ich habe auch gehört, man sollte eh einen VPN heutzutage besser nutzen, um halt anonym zu bleiben. Ein VPN macht dich nicht zwangsläufig anonym, da der Anbieter in der Regel deine Daten vorhällt und bei Bedarf rausgibt. Das kommt bei Tor nicht vor. VPN und Tor haben unterschiedliche nutzen. Du kannst mit einem VPN deine IP ändern, aber in der Regel wirst Du z.B. über diese den Port 8333 nicht öffnen können. Coin-Control:
du kannst von Hand auswählen aus welchen Transaktionen er dir eine Transaktion zusammenbaut. Davon habe ich ja überhaupt mal jetzt keinen Plan...wüsste gar nicht wie ich überhaupt beschreiben sollte, wofür ich sowas machen sollte  Mach es einfach mal an. Es fügt im "send" Bereich den Button "Inputs" hinzu. Der zeigt Dir alle Eingänge an die du verwenden kannst. Wenn man Bitcoin besser verstehen möchte ist das eine einfache und gute Möglichkeit. Ich habe in einem anderen Beitrag von diesem Pruning gelesen. Momentan synce ich noch die letzten 48 Wochen der Blockchain und der speicher zieht sich gerade voll (habe noch genügend Platz nach hinten frei).
Ich habe mir auf Bitcoin QT einige Informationen herangezogen und versucht mich damit aus einander zu setzen. Im Grunde genommen ist es ja nicht schwer zu kapieren, was da beim Pruning passiert (die techn. Seite jetzt mal ausgenommen, wenn es da ins Detail geht). Ein Versuch, das Pruning in Bitcoin QT ein zu stellen, ist aber dann doch fehlgeschlagen, obwohl ich das Kommando: prune=550 oder -prune=550 eingegeben habe.- Was muss ich wo hinschreiben, damit das Pruning eingeschaltet wird?
Ein bitcoin.conf Datei erstellen, dort prune=x eintragen, speichern, core starten. Du solltest dich aber vorher ausgiebig mit den Nachteilen beschäftigen. Ein paar sind: #1 keine privaten Schlüssel importieren können #2 wenn die lokalen Datenbank korrumpiert wird musst du alles nochmal runterladen #3 keine anderen wallet Dateien nutzen können (z.B. von einem Freund o.ä.) ohne neues runterladen (soweit ich weiß nicht bei jedem wechsel, da für jede wallet.dat ein Ordner erstellt wird, bin mir da aber unsicher) #4 diverse andere Funktionen die nützlich sind um Probleme zu beheben funktionieren nicht oder nur wenn du nochmal alles runterlädst (-rescan, -reindex, -zapwallettxes) - Ist es momentan schon sinnvoll?
Das kommt auf deine Festplatte an und wieviel Du davon bereit bist für bitcoin zu "opfern" - Welche Werte kann ich noch benutzen?
Alle ganz-zahligen Werte größer 550. Die Angabe ist in MB. - Wofür gibt es denn noch höhere Werte?

Ich habe zwar schon Stunden noch und nöcher mit Lesen verbracht, aber weil alles auf Englisch ist, ist es auch nicht immer einfach alle Übersetzungen sinngemäß gleich zu verstehen.
Es gibt leider nur wenige deutsche Internetseiten bzw. Informationen, die leicht verständlich sind.
Ich würde gerne auch den Client über Ubuntu laufen zu lassen und am liebsten würde ich ja irgendwann mal einfach nur noch im Daemon unterwegs sein  aber ich habe ja Zeit, es sind nur so unerträglich viele Informationen zu verarbeiten...

Running 0.12 on an Amazon instance and it is taking days to sync.
I noticed my daemon is only showing 8 connections.
The last few thousand blocks are going at a snails pace.
8 connections is pretty normal during sync. If 0.12 is slow its very likely the CPU. I managed to fully sync 0.12 in ~8.5 hours on 2 virtual i5 cores. |

Well, they are not useless but I suggest you not to use them anymore if someone else has access to the wallet file and password and thus having access to the private keys.
I haven't used Core myself yet but you should be able to just create a new address and then move the bitcoins to that address. That other person shouldn't have access to your newly generated address if he/she doesn't gets a new copy of your wallet file. You don't necessarily have to dump the other addresses, just don't use them anymore.
That describes useless to me. Any funds send to those addresses will be available to anyone who can use the private key. @OP, create another wallet from scratch, there's no point in keeping your old address even for signing. You should still be able to create a new address which won't append in the wallet file of the other person then. It's not like it automatically updates, assuming Core is not using xPub. As someone else already said, core keeps (by default) 100 addresses pregenerated in the wallet.dat file. If someone else has the file they also have these 100 hidden keys. They will e.g be used for change. Your solution is plain dangerous. A completely new wallet file can easily be created by just renaming the old file when core is closed. |

Aktuell können wir keine Bootstrap.dat erzeugen. - Wir suchen aber nach einer Lösung. Das Phyton-Script bricht aus unerklärlichen Gründen immer wieder ab, obwohl nichts geändert wurde.  Gruß Carsten. Could it be to avoid a dust change output?
How large are the input(s) you use and how many you want to send?
The transactions are ranging from 0.01-0.02BTC per transaction. I try to send them manually 1 by 1 and not as bundled transaction. 0.01BTC is not really what I consider to be dust. I had the following in mind: You have 2 inputs of 0.01001000 each and want to send 0.02. (no fee for simplicitiy) Core would use both inputs and have 2000 satoshi change which is below the dust limit. AFAIK if change is below the dust limit it is added to the fee. I have tried to include a fee of 0.01BTC and it forces me to pay around 0.0001XXBTC in fees. Can this be something for the protection that people won't include a ridiculous amount as fee by mistake? Core has such protection, yes. Im not entirely sure where the limits are though. I had a thread about that a while back. IIRC the limit is also in btc/sat per bytes. I think I only ever hit it on testnet when I tried to pay high fees. On mainnet I usually go with the (higher end) suggested fee. |

Ich habe das ja auch so aufgefasst und mich nur gewundert, weswegen ich nochmal nachfragen wollte, ob ich vielleicht was übersehen habe. Ich frag mal bei dem Händler nach, vielen dank Meld dich mal wenn Du ne Antwort hast, ggf. ist das ein Händler den man vermeiden sollte. |

Not sure if it works, but did you try to "reload" your account?
Swipe left, select the account in question, go to the options (top right on android) and select "reload account". Im not sure how it handles unconfirmed transactions, but it just did a complete rescan for me.

The coins are not lost, its just that you pay a low fee. Its back on blockchain.info. It is 11143 byte and pays a 60000 satoshi fee. You pay ~5 satoshi per byte, while its currently suggested to pay somewhere between 40 and 60 satoshi per byte[1]. You have two options: #1 you remove the transaction from your wallet and create one with a higher fee (use the "repair wallet" feature) #2 you (or someone else for you) resend the transaction so the network will not forget about and eventually it will get confirmed. Wie gesagt, ist zu wenig Fee gewesen. Das dauert jetzt halt nen bissel. Weg ist das Geld nicht. Vielleicht bespammt auch gerade jemand das Netzwerk. Einfach entspannen und Luft in die Hose lassen.
Wieso wird sowas gemacht? Ich habe aktuell bei einer Transaktion auch leider eine ziemlich geringe Gebühr aufgeschlagen: https://blockchain.info/tx/dd7a938942b41a4e887d6f1e31df96a891e50c761629cb25d9dc3d8ae70aef4aTransaction rejected by our node. Reason: Transaction was previously accepted but has been pruned from our database. Ist inzwischen bestätigt. Warum jemand Spam schickt ist unklar, aber es gibt da eine paar mögliche Gründe: #1 man möchte größere Blöcke motivieren #2 Miner profitieren von der einzigen Lösung gegen Spam (höhere Gebühren), ob damit insgesamt Profit gemacht werden kann ist spekulativ #3 warum leckt sich der Hund am Sack? Weil er kann. #4 "Stress tests" des Netzwerks. Das Bitcoin Netzwerk ist sehr komplex und schwer zu simulieren. Es gibt zwar das Testnet, aber da verhällt sich in vielen Fällen anders. #5 Preismanipulation - wenn man mit dem Angriff ausreichend Menschen dazu bringt "bitcoin ist kacke, ich verkauf" zu denken kann das den Kurs beeinflussen. #6 zu Stress Zeiten sind double spends einfacher |

I agree. the problem is that things need to be laymens. EG dont call it UTXO, call it unspents, its only 3 characters longer to type yet gives an easier understanding of the meaning.
Maybe "laymens" dont need to know this at all, but just that when they set "prune" to "550" that there are other important information that need to be stored on top of the 550 MB. I sometimes get feeling that core (or classic, doesnt matter) is less and less aimed at "laymans", but will be run by "geeks" or other enthusiasts anyway. i know geeks like to look smart by making up new buzzwords so they can get 5 minutes of fame telling the world how they create the buzzword that caught on and become fashionable.. but to the 7 billion people on the planet, buzzwords are causing bitcoin to become less open and transparent to the world.
I mostly get the feeling that "geeks" or "nerds" have a tendency to avoid buzzwords (web 2.0, Industry 4.0 etc.), because they have no clear meaning. As long as the term is precise enough it will do though. and this very topic has proven to have got alot of people into a pickle about it. and people still unsure about it. so obviously the developers need to do more on the laymen communication side of things.
after all if it takes 3 pages of random questions. then obviously the documentation is lacking the basics..

RTFM is all I was saying. I think we have a different philosophy here. When I encounter a problem I usually try to find the answer in the available documents, if that does not help and Im familiar with the language I try the source (if available), the IRC channel, a mailing list (if one exists and questions are allowed) and a forum. There is no shame in having to ask or to ask first instead of trying the manual or docs. I dont think the patch notes could have been clearer, but since you think otherwise maybe we can take this as an example how they could be improved? |

We cant tell you how long it will take, but the fee it paid is pretty low with 12 satoshi per byte. Core currently suggests 18 satoshi per byte for a 25 block (or longer) waiting time and 44 sat/byte for the next block. sorry , but nope... you're wrong. : correct fees are : 60 satoshis/byte , just have a look here --------------> http://bitcoinfees.21.co/These are different estimates, I never had any problems with those given by my nodes. I dont think 44 sat/byte or 60 sat/byte will make a big different. 12 or 18 respectively wont either. |
