2481  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Need bitcointalk higher rand account... on: September 27, 2022, 07:56:18 PM
Why do you need to buy a bitcointalk account? You can contribute good and let your newly created account to just rank up. It is better that way.

Know that account sales can lead to scam. Also know that you can buy an account that has plagiarized before which may later be banned.

Or you need an account for business reasons?
2482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Parents And Their Children In Gambling.. on: September 27, 2022, 10:23:49 AM
I don't think that this topic is about Gambling. It's more about being humble and have some decency, while you are living an easy life in God-mode and you have everything served on a silver platter. Angry
This topic is not about being humble. Because you are gambling, that does snot mean you are not decent. Gamblers with the right mind can be decent too. There are people that are not gambling and not decent.

Life always comes back and bites you in the a$$, it doesn't matter how rich you are.
I don't have children, but if I had any children, I would never give them money for gambling and strip clubs. Even if I was a millionaire or billionaire, I would never do such thing.
That does not mean Micheal Jordan did such a thing too. His child is 19 years old, still at teen age but an adult because he is above 18 years. His father may not know what he did until it became news . We can not know all what our children are doing. Because you did not give your children money for gambling, that does not mean they do not have money to gamble with as long as you are a millionaire.
2483  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: About Casino Licenses on: September 27, 2022, 10:05:07 AM
It is not good to go for unlicensed casino because they may misuse your KYC, they may not be qualified enough to pay the amount you win. But there are unlicensed casinos.

I see unlicensed casinos not to be legal because if the risks their customers are exposed to. A licensed casino would have been checked to have ability to operate a casino, but which unlicensed casino may not have.

License can be a good advantage for other casinos, this only means that you are operating legally and serious about providing quality service and platform for the gamblers.
But people should know that a licensed casino may not have good reputation. After checking a casino to be licensed, it is good to also go for trustworthy ones among them.
2484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Nuclear and gas fastest growing energy sources for Bitcoin mining: Data on: September 27, 2022, 07:38:58 AM
https://cointelegraph.com/news/nuclear-and-gas-fastest-growing-energy-sources-for-bitcoin-mining-data

According to the report, coal alone accounts for 37% of total bitcoin mining electricity consumption in 2022. Among sustainable energy source, hydroelectric power accounts for 15%. In the report, clean energy generation for mining bitcoin has increased if compared to 2021.

Quote
Despite Bitcoin mining significantly relying on coal and hydropower, the shares of these energy sources in the total BTC energy mix have been dropping over the past several years. In 2020, coal power powered 40% of global BTC mining. Hydropower’s share has more than halved from 2020 to 2021, tumbling from 34% to 15%.

We can see on the images how fossil fuel energy production is decreasing, while clean energy production like natural gas and nuclear energy are increasing.
2485  Economy / Economics / Re: GPU price in China drop to their lowest level in histor after the ethereum merge on: September 26, 2022, 08:46:59 PM
In a Bitcoiner's perspective, isn't Ethereum moving to PoS a good thing? Not sure about mining hardware compatibility, but wouldn't it be a safe assumption that some of the Ethereum PoW miners would transition to mining BTC? Bitcoin's mining hashrate is doing really well despite markets being quite bearish. https://coin.dance/blocks/hashrate
I am not talking about PoS, I am talking about how people are criticizing PoW while it is also helping people and economy, that people are looking into just one thing about PoW and criticizing it while not looking about the means electricity is generated and how PoW is helping people and economy. Electricity generation in the sense that miners can use clean electricity.

So the reasoning with PoW producing an increase in employment doesn’t make any sense because PoS could still have some monitoring and incentivize something like that. I think it’s still better to focus on the environment before anything else because that’s where we all live in.
Yes, that is true, I will assume that PoS would also reward people, but not like PoW. I see PoS reward not to be more than the mining reward, but PoW is more than that. But you people are getting me wrong, do not see the OP as a means of attacking PoS. No one says PoS is not good, but how if all crypto move to PoS, that it may not favour in some ways.

You have some weird thought processes and come to some very strange conclusions. Taking your electricity "argument" nonsense for example, that's simply not how it works. An efficient market works on supply and demand - if miners were the productive source of revenue generation that you suggest, then they would still be using and driving up energy prices. However they are simply not profitable any more, so any potential addition to the electricity grid that was spurred by the cryptocurrency trend will either be utilized by other industry or retired if it is not economical. The labor market is changing constantly, but you seem to suggest that electricity has no demand just because a few miners drop out, it's simply untrue.
Weird thought like? Do not change this forum into a place of abuses by trying to add up to your weekly posts. Who is arguing? Did you see me posting yet after the opening post? Probably you are out of your substance while posting this. The last part of your post let me understood that you do not get me rightly and just want to argue, read the OP very well without rushing it the way you did.
2486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Reputation on: September 26, 2022, 04:37:23 PM
There are famous basketball player and other golfers who had dip into gambling addiction but that doesn't really ruined their reputation. It should be the same thing with lawyers if his gambling activity doesn't obstruct his profession, it should just be fine.
Basketball players, golfers and other players are not the same as teachers, the field are very different. What if teachers to be gambling is against the law of the school? But if not, you are not also wrong, anyone can decide to gamble or not as long that gambling is not illegal in that country. What should make someone not to gamble is if gambling is not legal in the country or if the organization you are working for against it. But to be sincere, I have not seen any company before that has it in law or rule that their worker should not gamble, that should remain to individual's personality.
2487  Economy / Economics / GPU price in China drop to their lowest level in history after the ethereu merge on: September 26, 2022, 02:28:51 PM
This life is not balanced at all, but humans make it more to be not balanced. Humans can turn blind us on something and be full of blatant misconceptions. A good instance of this is the bitcoin proof of work (PoW). What did some people said about it? They said bitcoin mining should be banned. Bitcoin miner are working more to the side of using clean energy to mine bitcoin, like waste gasses of the by-product in crude oil refineries and the use of others like hydroelectric power generation and solar energy.

After the Ethereum merge from PoW to PoS, some organizations wanted bitcoin to change to PoS too, but that is never going to happen for now. Instead of people to focus more on how the world can stay away from the use of fossil fuels to generate energy, which are releasing high amount of carbon, all they know is to focus on bitcoin PoW. Is bitcoin PoW the problem? No. Most problem are the countries that have no other alternatives than to use fossil fuels to produce energy.

When crypto mining was banned in China, GPU price dropped significantly. Recently after Ethereum merge, the price of GPU has fallen again, but to its lowest in history.

GPU prices in China drop to their lowest levels in history after the ethereum merge

If no electricity is produced, no labour in electricity sector. The more electricity that is produced, more labour, more employment. Companies that are manufacturing GPU, ASIC and other miners are employing workers. It means more employment.

PoW has resulted to increase in employment, but people do not want to understand than saying it is deteriorating the environment. But the deterioratiion caused by PoW is far less than the one caused by other activities like gold and other mineral mining, other industrial activities and many others that is leading to global warming.
2488  Other / Meta / Re: No more banner advertising: what's next? on: September 26, 2022, 12:42:34 PM
Maybe signatures are to be banned next ?  Smiley
No

Read what theymos talked about the reasons, not worth the time spent on it is there. To ban ads will not affect this forum traffic, but if signature is banned, there would be less traffic. Many people that supposed to be exposed to what bitcoin is properly will be unable to.

Signature campaign makes this forum to be lively too. Banning signature campaign is not possible because theymos will also consider others that are using it as an incentive.
2489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My worst day in gambling on: September 26, 2022, 11:55:52 AM
Well sincerely speaking gambling has no limits to married or not married
That is true, anyone can gamble as long they are above 18. But married people risk wisely because they know they have to take care of the family.

as a matter of fact, married men gambles mostly to raise funds for his family.
For not to be a bad father, better for such person not to go for gambling, he should look for other means because gambling can take than give, especially it would take from those that are in need and look into gambling for it.

So gambling comes with addiction, once you got addicted it doesn't matter if you have a family or not the habits has been established so nothing stops you from the previous attitude or behavior. It takes only self discipline to control the gambling habits.
This is true. But I wish we can see the percentage of married and not yet married men that gambles and see who are most reckless about it. Definitely the not yet married people would be more, also in addiction which is what I am talking about.
2490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My worst day in gambling on: September 25, 2022, 08:50:24 PM
One thing I don't do for my life is to ever play or gamble with my bill funds most especially my rent or my children school fees. Then when I was in school I have never temped with my school fees though then I never had much love for gambling for it was good for me to utilize any money that gets to my hands. So I never have though experience.
No one wants to be an irresponsible father or parent. One thing about trading and gambling is that people that are not married risk more than the people that are married. The kind of ways a married man would think is different. It would be very absurd if a father gambles with his children school fees. That is a very bad thing to do. A good father would want to pay bills too. But when it comes to people that are not married, they have the kind of mind to risk more, but the risks can later put them in trouble. But be it a married person or not, gambling should be done in a responsible way that will not become a problem for the gambler.
2491  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My worst day in gambling on: September 25, 2022, 08:28:19 PM
At times I wonder how do you college students gets to o that. You know, to use your tuition fees and maybe rent to gamble when you know that, its a high stake probability and you could lose all without being compensated for it but still, you guys get to go ahead with the risk. That's so not me and gambling rules disapproves.

"Gamble what you can afford to lose only". It's that simple and when you feel you should make a trier, know when to draw the line. Tru to be disciplined about it.
The first I knew was my departmental friend that gambled with his tuition fee. I blamed him.

Another was a very close friend of mine that gambled with his mother's money. It was a very huge amount of money. I blamed him.

Not knowing I too would fall victim of that. I gambled with my school fee, not even once but twice.

My departmental friend, my close friend, and I all lost.

When I lost the second time, I quit gambling for many months.
2492  Other / Meta / Re: Tables of users with the most merits earned (more than 1500 merits) on: September 25, 2022, 02:46:03 PM
The one who got 10,000 merits is the one you can see in the first column, isn't it obvious?
In addition, the search for the person you are interested in will not take much time if, indeed, as Lucius writes, you pay attention to the site where this person has been listed for a long time.
That was a typo, I am only asking him to include people with 1000 merits too (which were not included) which I asked again in the last sentence on the post, When I first asked, I mistakely wrote 10000, but it was a mistake. People with 10000 merits are included already, I know. I will strike it out now for correction.
2493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is permissable in Islam. on: September 25, 2022, 11:37:52 AM
Bitcoin is now legal in some Muslim countries. If governments understand what bitcoin is, no country would ban it.

Although there are over 2,000 cryptocurrencies on the market now, Bitcoin is probably still the most known form of cryptocurrency in the blockchain market, and was the first cryptocurrency coin to go mainstream but there are other cryptocurrencies entering the market.
There are over 21000 cryptocurrencies that are existing.

One of the defining aspects of cryptocurrency is that there is no central authority such as a Government that authorises it or records it.
It was true when bitcoin was created, also bitcoin is still like that, but altcoins are centralized to an extent.
2494  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can i get banned for Card Counting in online casinos? on: September 25, 2022, 09:33:07 AM
I don't think there is someone willing to risk to see if they will get banned on using a card counting technique. Even though it is not illegal, the online casino can easily disable withdrawal on their account if they noticed something suspicious on their betting activity where they have a consistent win-lose ratio. I'm pretty sure that you will avoid complying to their KYC since you are aware of using a method to have an advantage.
Card counting is legal, no government law or rules are against card counting and nothing would lead to arrest if found that any gambler do that, that is where it is legal. But not legal in casinos, if anyone is found doing card counting, the person would be barred from the casino. I do not know much about online casinos, but what I said is about physical casinos. Online casinos is online and not physical, for gamblers to do card counting would be difficult, unlike on physical casinos.
2495  Other / Meta / Re: Tables of users with the most merits earned (more than 1500 merits) on: September 25, 2022, 09:12:16 AM
Good work OP.

Suggestion
So far only merit received are used, merit airdrops not included. Can you just include people that receive 10000 1000 merits too? It is not easy for people to rank up on this forum like that, but easy for some people.

I would have liked it this way:
100     merits
250     merits
500     merits
1000   merits
2500   merits
5000   merits
10000 merits

But if you decide not to add those lower ranks, you can just start from 1000 merits.
2496  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solution to some challenges faced by bitcointalk members from developing nations on: September 24, 2022, 12:07:05 PM
Price of Starlink service could be expensive though for people who live on developing nations. Starlink pricing on Brazil roughly about $50, while on US it could be around $100.
What I know is that there is no Starlink in Africa as of July 2022. But I read on news that Starlink would be available in Nigeria by August 2022. Maybe it is now in Africa.

The cost to setup Starlink kit in developed country is expensive. In US, it is around $599, but said to be four times cheaper in Africa, said to be $99 which is 6 times cheaper. Probably the subscription or service would also be very cheap.

- You can not have a good overview with chart on smart phone then you can make wrong entries
- You might more likely make mistakenly typing on smart phones than on laptops.
- Laptops are more safer in security if you have Internet Security /AV softwares and use Linux. Mobile devices are very easily to hack especially Android
Let me put it like this for you. What is the safest wallet between electrum and hardware wallet? People are not going to think twice before choosing hardware wallet. But did you know someone that know how to use electrum for cold storage can say if you only want to use bitcoin and able to run electrum on an airgapped device, that electrum is safer, but on cold storage.

I have two phones and a laptop. I use one one for exchanges, I have my wallet on laptop. Both are very secure the way I am handling them. I have another phone, also secure but the one I use most often where I have emu 2FA and if possible I want to have watch-only wallet.

Laptop or computer can be very vulnerable if you do not do away with what can bring malware to your computer. Any device can be safe if you do what that would make it safe.

The reason phone is more vulnerable which I agree to is because people use it most these days to browse and they carry it about and outdoor.
2497  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solution to some challenges faced by bitcointalk members from developing nations on: September 24, 2022, 08:35:10 AM
Why creating a new topic about this, you could have just post it on that old thread.

For high speed internet, if 4G phone is not still providing high speed internet, it is good to go for a Router, it draws internet than phones.

Should have one special device for cryptocurrency related things: wallets, exchanges, 2FA, etc. I would prefer to not log in my exchange account on a mobile device because I would like to allocate it for 2FA only. As a 2FA installed device, I don't want to login email, exchange accounts on that device.
Probably you are in a country with constant electricity.

You can easily afford cheap mobile phone power bank, but not so for computer. If someone is an active trader, he may prefer to use phone Instead.

Device that stores 2FA should be different than the devices you usually login your email, your account.
That is true though. I have another device for 2FA but I still have my exchange account on my mobile phone and computer. Only my wallet which I do not access often are only on my laptop. Another phone for 2FA.
2498  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is anyone buying right now because they think we are at or close to the bottom? on: September 22, 2022, 11:39:57 PM
Bitcoin has decreased significantly. It was bull market before, then followed by a significantly bear market. What next after a significant bear market? Bull market would follow.

To achieve the result of full bull market may take time, you can also hold for long.
2499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Real most rewarding Crypto Casino? on: September 22, 2022, 08:07:24 AM
Nowadays many scam casino offered a good amount or prizes to attract your attention and then when you fall into a trap scammers take all your money. So User's reviews is a must before participating in any kind of casino because every reviews from other gamblers is our way of research to determine that casino is worthy enough and trusted to gamble on their casino. But as a beginner you need to bet a small amount first in order to prevent such scam casino then if it works then you can bet a high value to earn a high amount as well.
Not even only on gambling sites, but all other sites that scammers can have a type of it. Scammers can pay many people to positively review their site and they are going to be paid in order to make their site look more real to inexperienced people that can be scammed. Only reviewing the site can not do it, making more research about it would be better too and also seeking for the help from people about a site on forum like bitcointalk would help to know if the site is scam or not, or weather to use it or not.
2500  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gacha Game on: September 22, 2022, 08:00:15 AM
But not all addictions are entirely destructive and don't have any positive benefits. For one benefit, these games can provide better satisfaction for people who play them and the purchases are necessary to ensure the developers of the game can still keep benefitting as well.
Definitely you have not been addicted before, that is why you can say that not all gambling addiction is addictive. In reality, all gambling addictions are destructive. The destructive that I mean is that is would be affect the gambler, especially financially. And if care is not taken, it can even lead to destruction. People can not gamble frequently and continue to win than lose, the person would lose than win, which is where the problem is going to begin.
