2502  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How do you guys secure your bitcoins ? on: March 28, 2014, 08:50:55 AM
Seriously.  This is Armory's bread and butter.  You can keep the coins as secure as you want (hot or cold wallet), one-time only backups, still distribute unique addresses for every transaction, still be able to monitor the coins and incoming payments on the online computer, and no need to sync blockchain data between online and offline computers to spend.

Basically, Armory has already solved all the complexities of putting private keys offline, keeping public keys online, and shuttling the minimum amount of data needed for the offline computer to securely verify and sign the transactions.

https://bitcoinarmory.com/about/using-our-wallet/#offlinewallet

You guys are doing a great job with armory, thank you!

The application has some very nice feature, e.g. signing transactions completely offline - each time I boot my cold-storage PC and syncing, then am I exposing the PC to the internet.
I would definitely advice user who have large funds to look into this solution.

I have only little experience with Armory, maybe I will switch from Bitcoin-core to Armory if my level of paranoia increase.

Simple i dont keep the keys on a machine i use on d net. So its all offline and i use blockchain when i need them online.

How do you use blockchain when you need them online and how do you get to cold safely?

I believe that softron means the blockchain-wallet, it has a pretty nice function to sweep private keys, you can even use your webcam to read a QR code for the private key.

You could make 100 x paper wallets and load them with 0.01 BTC each.
Then use them as "5 dollar bills", each time you need bitcoins you redeem a bunch of your 0.01 BTC paper wallets.

Since Knc increased Titan performance up to 250Mh is one share 0.83 Mh now? Or it still 0.33?

That is a pretty significant boost.

Anykeywhy is there any more available shares for this round?
2507  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How do you guys secure your bitcoins ? on: March 27, 2014, 01:49:03 PM
Just keep them on gox.  lulz

Remember to always spread out the risk:
Keep 1/4 at inputs.io, 1/4 at BIPS, 1/4 at Mt.Gox and 1/4 at Vircurex?  lulz
2508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.6 HARDFORK MANDATORY UPDATE on: March 27, 2014, 01:28:06 PM
Cryptsy is reliable, but can take hours till your doge are there
Bter is good

Most trustworthy: kraken.com - this is real shit, you can trade DOGE agains US$ or Euro also.

Others I use: swisscex.com, but low volume

No doubt , at this time kraken is the best place to buy ( but need bank account to deposit your money) , or buy in forum with scrow ( then you can use paypal etc.)

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated Smiley

I assume that the bank account is only needed for $<->DOGE trade, correct?
I only need to trade: BTC<->DOGE, so I believe that I don't need to link my bank account to krakken.

Any suggestions for a reliable exchange for DOGE?
Vircurex is out of the question, Cryptsy and cryptorush is not too reliable either?

What are the options nowadays? Private exchange with escrow?
2510  Other / Meta / Re: My trust rate on: March 27, 2014, 11:55:20 AM
My account is hacked  Cry

Change your password (uniq and strong password)
Change the password on the email you have associated with the account.
Scan your PC for malware.

When you are sure that you are in 100% of your account, then contact the users who gave your negative trust.

They did the right thing by giving your account negative trust, they proberly prevented people from being scammed.
Don't take it personal, it is not YOU who got negative trust it is your account.
I am sure that malevolent, Tomatocage and Blaater will remove the negative rating if you can convinces them that you are in 100% control of your account again.

2512  Other / Off-topic / Re: And the best wallet is... on: March 27, 2014, 10:30:36 AM
Bitcoin-core is the only wallet I trust with more than a few santoshi satoshi.

I must say that mycelium is nice solutions for small amounts, I would definitely used this app more if you could pay with bitcoins anywhere.

Edit: Thanks for pointing out my spelling error Wink
2513  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How do you guys secure your bitcoins ? on: March 27, 2014, 10:24:51 AM
I have done a lot of research on this topic; my solutions uses two Bitcoin-core clients and one paperwallet.
1. Bitcoin-core client running on my desktop-pc, this is my hotwallet, where I do all my in/out transactions to the "world". I never keep too many bitcoins here. Password is of cause strong.
2. Bitcoin-core client running on dedicated pc, this is my cold-storage, only use this PC if I have to move funds to my hot-wallet.
3. Paperwallet, printed out, stored away. Never touches this one. Only uses it for long time storage of funds I am certain that I don't need in the near future.

I have backup of all the wallets, located at two different locations.

I know that there is more secure ways to do this, but the more security you add the higher is the chance that you will not be able to access the funds your self.
The important thing for me, is that it reasonable safe and I trust the setup.

I also thing it is important not to "put all the eggs in one basket", thing it is important to divide your funds into different system/types. E.g. if my cold-storge is compromised it is unlikely that my paper wallet is compromised at the same time.

Still, even just a "We know about the broken withdrawals, and they'll be credited to cold store/destination address shortly" announcement would be really nice so I know where I am!

Still waiting for BTC from a failed withdrawal to either turn up in frozen, or the address it was sent to. Three emails left unreplied to (and yes, I'm still being polite)

Only good news being the reported fixing of the QRK wallet, so they're still out there somewhere.

I have also send two unanswered email (and yes, I'm still polite too).
I just want to know if the funds stuck in the failed tx is frozen or just "stuck".
2516  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How many BTC do you have frozen in [Vircurex]? Have they been unfrozen yet? on: March 25, 2014, 09:04:42 PM
... then I just got robbed...

Yeah, that is so true.
This is robbery at broad daylight, nothing less, fubar.
2517  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: March 25, 2014, 06:11:08 PM
I've just found this:

https://vircurex.com/Reports/2013-11.pdf

how the fuck did they manage to go from -112 btc end of june to over -1000 at end of july??
this was public, never read it... fuck... with this numbers keeping just 1 litecoin on that exchange was fucking insane

fuck me for not reading that,
unbelievable. fuck

There where does who where lucky to get their funds out... I am sincerely happy for them...  and then there is the rest of us.
Not much hope - I honestly think that we will never see those coins again.
2518  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: March 25, 2014, 09:14:11 AM
why didn't they do a proportional distribution of what was left? I had all my holdings frozen. this is unbelievable. at least they u should have left something to everybody so they could continue trading. this was not fair at all. quite disappointed about the way they managed all this. I won't move a btc or ltc back to vircurex. I'm finished here unless I have some of my frozen holding released.

Yeah, it sucks. I don't see much future for Vircurex.
2519  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: March 25, 2014, 09:10:10 AM
Still waiting on 0.57842483 BTC from a failed withdrawal on Wednesday. Doesn't show up either in Vircurex or at destination address.

Some tiny balances from referrals have been released though.

I got the exact same situtaion - I have no idea what is going to happen to those failed tx.
I believe that the stuck funds are not part of this "mitigation" plan - and someone has to deal with them manually, and that is very bad, since there is absolutely no support from Vircurex.
2520  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: sending BTC to my paper wallet on: March 25, 2014, 09:04:47 AM
This is all great info because I plan on transferring my varying coins to paper wallets to get them off exchanges.

Could you help explain this bit to me though? So say I want a paper wallet for a litecoin. I would get it here? https://liteaddress.org - how do I do this without going on the internet? I have a Kindle that has never been used so I figure I can use that device, but *how* do I make a transfer? I just don't know where to begin.

The procedure is described nicely with the link pinksheep provided:
http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinWallet/comments/1p6y5c/secure_paper_wallet_tutorial/

Basic steps:
- Go to the homepage liteaddress.org
- Save the html page by e.g. pressing ctrl-s.
- Copy html page to a usb drive.
- Boot a clean PC that is not in any way connected to the internet, intranet or wifi.
- Run html page from your usb drive.
- Create your private key, write down on a piece of paper.
- Turn off your PC.

Additional security:
- Verify the with Ninja's PGP signature to make sure that your local html file has not been tapered with.
- Use onscreen keyboard if inputting seed, e.g. Base6 number.
- Format your harddrive and usbdrive after private key is generated.

You can do this more securely, depending on your level of paranoia, this topic is discussed many places in this forum, the steps I have listed is only the basic steps.
