2501  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 21, 2017, 08:36:58 AM
I've been paying very much attention to the correlation between Bitcoin run and BRK.A (Buffett stuff) and if we go that way.................Don't let me say it. Price projections look insane: my ATH this year is 7500 USD and it looks like we are going there.

Crazy stuff this bitcoin Grin

Kraken is going nuts at $6000. I wonder what will happen when we reach ONE Million USD! Cheesy
Give us a nice weekend dear Bitcoin!
Today I could even offer a beer to JJG
2503  Economy / Gambling / Re: SafeDICE.com ★ Bitcoin Dice ★ Monero ★ 0.5% Edge ★ Fast Cashout ★ Since 2014 on: October 20, 2017, 07:01:42 PM
Good to hear SafeDice is going to credit BitcoinGold as it was done for Bitcoin Cash.
I have only one question: SafeDice seemed to imply that only invested money will be snapshotted for the airdrop.
Is it like this or it is enough to have BTC balance on SD? Please clarify, thanks!
2504  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 20, 2017, 08:05:40 AM
Taking days off and watching the chart without caring about what your boss thinks of you. Priceless
Cheesy
One can't never be too thankful to Bitcoin!

Talking price I've been using Fibonacci retracements since the end of 2016. I would say they are 85% accurate so far. I should have used them to trade and get more coins. But I'm an hodler Cheesy
These prices are nothing... yet.

Bitcoin has no real competitor in terms of price movements. We had our Black Days of huge dumps but we are also experiencing a series of amazing bull runs. Give it time: this bull is very young

I had to replace my drive. I want to do a fresh install of my operating system.
Is there a procedure to save the wallet? I read to be careful with the blackbytes..
I think to save blackbytes you should have full wallet(not light version) and make full backup.

Not true. To restore a wallet you need a full backup, not a full wallet. Even the full backup from a light wallet is enough to restore your blackbytes.

1) save the seed
2) do  full backups regularly
3) give them a password
4) keep calm and hold
2507  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The KRACK Wi-Fi attack...precautions? on: October 20, 2017, 07:47:51 AM
I have been working on this KRACK thing.  My router has been patched and my linux systems have too.  I know this may appear just a bit off topic but one great security counter measure is the hardware wallet. I know KRACK is about more than crypto but for coins I love the Trezors (or other good hardware wallets).  No matter what, say the next hack when KRACK is fixed, the private keys will still remain safe.  My privacy computers such as this one all use Cat 6 and encrypted relay jumps.  Even then I prefer to keep all private btc keys inside a hardware wallet only.

Hardware wallets should be fine so long as the keys are not exposed. This is a matter of data transmission and data leaks.
Good old trezor and nano s should be unaffected
2508  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-19] Josh Brown goes down the bitcoin rabbit hole. Here's his early take on: October 19, 2017, 09:20:41 PM
You walk halfway across Rivington Street and in the middle of the block there's an alley leading north, and then, inexplicably, it curves northwest. It's remarkable in that on the Isle of Manhattan there aren't any alleys. And this one is whimsical. Lights are strung overhead and artwork decorates the sides of the buildings as you make your way through. And then, at the end of Freemans Alley, you come to a tucked away restaurant in the back corner. It's called Freemans (what else?).
If the setting for the recent crypto currency summit was quirky, the conversation was downright otherworldly. The rules for how things work in the crypto realm are being written in real time. We pick up a phrase or a bit of terminology, and we begin to use it authoritatively moments later – as though we'd been doing so our whole lives. We're hanging onto people's words who've become experts in a thing that didn't exist just a few years ago.

You don't care about the price but it is finally going up a bit after one month of utter depression!
good to know that tonych will go to a conference, the crypto world needs to get to know him

Very good update by the way!
2510  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-19]Why Bitcoin and Crypto Market Cap will Hit $1 Trillion in 2018 on: October 19, 2017, 09:11:25 PM

Fractional Reserve Banking will continue to fall apart aa QE further devalues fiat currency and erodes spending power. More and more people will buy into crypto as the people look for safe havens.

I hope that who will buy into crypto will realize that fractional reserve has been used in the crypto world as well. When BTC will destroy 10K USD many people will be disappointed if current exchanges could not honor users' withdrawal. But this is not our problem now.

I have an old mobile hotspot from ZTE that will not receive any patch. I will have to buy a new one to avoid the risks associated. Damn KRACK  Smiley

other than the forks, everything that is irrelevant neatly summed up^
Pretty good one, thanks for sharing it here. I am reading the pdf and it is quite impressive to see how ICOs are overtaking corporate and VC investments with the crypto ecosystem

How is this new fork going to work as it relates to which exchanges will credit you with the alt-coin?  I lost out a bit by keeping 50% of my BTC in cold storage and the other 50% on Coinbase and since I've moved some coins off Coinbase, I will lose more BCH this way when they hand it out on 1/1/18.

Where should I move my Coinbase stuff to make sure I get properly credited with the new alt-coin?  I do have a GDAX account now, but I suspect they operate under Coinbase's rules?

These forks are all so confusing

Go for Electrum, but learn how to use it.

After Bittrex last move this is the best advice to give to anybody here. You read it on the forum since Mt.Gox: why do we want to use exchanges to store our keys when those keys are our ONLY right towards our coins? Still amazes me!

On a side note, thanks for pointing out those Ledger Nano S/Monero developments. If that happens I am happy guy!

First, what is Bitrex's last move?  second, nobody asked for advice about whether to store on exchanges, but asked about which exchanges are better (and which wallets)  3) again, you do not seem to know shit about my particular diversification or finances or risk profile and probably nothing except possibly you read a few of my posts and assume that you know me and assume that I am overexposed because I have a few alts on an exchange and I want to keep them available and likely on an exchange to be able to liquidate pronto, if I feel necessary  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
Wow man, calm down, easy. I will reply to the Bittrex question only: they changed all the old/legacy accounts into new ones while lowering all the limits. Since I did not give you any advice I will not proceed further. But this confirms what I thought a while ago looking at your latest posts.

[NONSENSE]
G0ood points!
After this post I totally believe you should be banned forever

I don't know about iOS but this probably will apply there as well.
On Android, for the time being and until your vendor/google do not release decent patches, USE mobile data via VPN when you need to use your bitcoin wallet there. Do not use wi-fi as we speak until you are certain of receiving a patch.

For your everyday browsing life, as others have said, turn HTTPS EVERYWHERE on, block third-party cookies, remove sending referrer info and if that's not enough use NoScript. Or turn to TOR Bundle which has everyhting built-in or get a good VPN.
I personally use Avira Phantom Pro

The bitcoin is a financial asset with no ballast that people buy because they believe it will appreciate. That is a typical bubble or pyramid [scheme].

Unfortunately, that is an accurate statement. If Bitcoin cannot find a use that justifies its current price, the price will not be sustainable.

That is not an accurate statement. Bitcoin might be developing in a bubble right now (I think not) but you could never say it is a pyramid scheme. If you use the words bitcoin and pyramid scheme together I do not know why you are here.
Internet had its bubble and we still are on the Internet! It was no pyramid scheme.
Satoshi did not recruit anybody into bitcoin. He spent his time on this project and as far as the public know he did not get anything out of it. And he probably never will.

I have both the ledger nano s and the trezor and neither of those wallets support either ETC or Monero.

The Nano S does support ETC. https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/6cw1ig/ledger_wallet_etc/

The Ledger Nano S has a Monero wallet currently under development. https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/75w4s4/ledger_hardware_wallet_monero_integration_some/

YOU NEED TO STOP STORING CRYPTO ON EXCHANGES.

How can someone who is as enthusiastic about cryptocurrencies not understand that one of the fundamentally key beauties to cryptocurrency is the ability to take responsibility for managing your own wealth without significant exposure to counter parties?

Ah well... you a thirsty horse, and you are standing on the banks of the Nile...

2518  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-17] Two Factors Influencing Bitcoin's Price Right Now on: October 18, 2017, 06:09:29 AM
It has been a year of highs for bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. After surpassing the $5,000 mark, bitcoin is poised to surpass $6,000 next. (See also: Bitcoin Prices Hit Record High.) As of this writing, bitcoin is trading at $5,592.56. Cumulatively, it is up by 546% since the start of this year. A bunch of cryptocurrencies, including ethereum and litecoin, have imitated bitcoin’s trajectory and racked up gains ranging from 4,000% to 1,325% respectively. Besides the inherent dynamics of cryptocurrencies (there is a limited number of them in the market), other factors are at work in raising their prices.

Here are two factors influencing bitcoin’s price right now.

And I was about to buy a fuckzillion antminers and they're only taking bcash

If that is really true then they are desperate. Jihan is on the brink of bankruptcy.

We will survive his bankruptcy. Other manufacturers will create new ASICs soon. He will realize how much money and time he spent in his personal witch-hunt too late. He could have been the most successful bitcoin millionaire on Earth but his degree in Psychology let him go the other way.
Time will speak for him. We can wait.

If that's the case, and first of all thanks for sharing, I do hope that Bittrex will go Mintpal/Cryptsy. Such a shady behaviour should be disapproved by all Bittrex users. I personally left Bittrex for good right on time before my old account was changed into a new one. I'll look around for a new exchange.
Goodbye Bittrex

Byteball users should empty their bittrex wallets as well.
