I just want the two of you to know that I love you with all my heart.

2502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 14, 2020, 06:17:25 PM
So interesting.  What is driving this rally?  With something like a billion dollars in volume (although some of that might be wash trade type shenanigans) it seems unlikely to be driven entirely because of being thinly traded...  I wonder if it is a single buyer or a group, or some yet to be known news?

That said, XMRBTC is looking fairly good.  Could be choppy around this level technically, but that's just it... I think something more than technical stuff is going on.
XMRUSD looks VERY good.  With Monero's claws firmly into Bitcoins pant leg we seem to be getting to go to the prom.

Super curious what might be going on...

Casually stable-coining away at low $19,000’s. I’m starting to think we’ll see an explosive move north of $25,000 by the end of February 2021.

What do you think guys?

Spot on!

The ~7 week rise and slow stable march to meet the 20 week MA, is looking a lot like the one we had from ~$3k through $10k+, but the only difference is that this time we're at ATH and everyone is sitting watching it with their fingers on the triggers:

Who is going to be the last one to buy under $20k? Look at 27th July this year, don't let it be you on the wrong side of that candle Tongue

Monero has done this a few times recently hasn't it?  Rally in a crypto-wide bear.

I am always trying to imagine the engine for it.  Some macro guru on Twitter who has decided to do the John McAfee style alt pump cycle scam (but maybe with a little more finesse)?  Loading up before the pump?  Someone "washing" their coins?  Organic Monero buying during a bear?

The last one seems kind of the hardest to see... it just does not make a lot of sense.

But Monero has been whipped around recently for sure... It's interesting at least.

MassMutual makes $100 million Bitcoin investment

The logarithmically increasing flow of institutional money into bitcoin is in full swing!

The longer they say stuff like this the better.  Corn is 18k and it's still an upstart!

I think they heard Bob's twitching finger was buying it all up and decided they better make their move.

Assuming the new poll should read 12/13 closing price?  Or we doing a next October prediction ala MicDude?

I just want to take a moment to thank Bob for digging the price out of the 17s singlehandedly by rapid fire $500 purchases on PayPal and Kraken.

XMRBTC chart looking more and more like a quadruple bottom or a 5x bottom.

Feels like April-May 2016 currently.

Yeah.  It's a little spooky that it keeps ramming into that bottom (beavisbutthead.gif), but on the other hand fundamentally I just don't see it continuing to break down.

Nice to see you Smoothie.  Hope all is well.

How high will BTC go when ETH screws up again and all those BTC on eth are lost/burnt?

If that happens in a few years, Bob will probably be the only living human being left with any BTC.

He will have bought every single last one on paypal?

But at the same time the dude GETS bitcoin.

Clearly he does not. He just called censorship-resistance and privacy "bad ideas."

And he is right about the bit with trusted layer two like Square.  And lightning is a hobbyist platform today.  Square/CashApp is an actual working product people use.  And before you sling at me too hard... I run 2 lighting nodes.

He's wrong about LN as it is not a competitor of PayPal and Square! It was not developed for that purpose, and its not a centralized entity, much less a corporation. His comparison of LN with the other two is farcical at best and reflects an extremely poor understanding of bitcoin at worst.

Were just gonna disagree on this one.  I see some 3D chess.  I think there is 0% chance he gets why bitcoin is a good place to park a billion dollars, but does not realize censorship resistance is a key reason.  In fact he's made that exact argument several times.

So why, then, would he say the thing he said?

Occam's razor.  It's not even really 3D or Chess...  It's checkers really.

The Michael Saylor quote is being taken out of context. He's arguing that bitcoin needs to be portrayed differently to bring in more of the traditional Wall Street bankers.
That is even simpler than checkers...

Bitcoin does not care any more about our cypherpunk ideals or dreams of citadels, than it does Peter Schiff's hatred of it, or Michael Saylor's mainstream coddling.

Every kind of person can use it.  And everyone that stands in it's way will be destroyed.

1.  I think we are about to see a big ass run on the exchanges.
2.  Some exchanges will be shown to be swimming naked when the ride rolls out.
3.  This will hurt bitcoins reputation in the immediate term.
4.  Then people will begin to realize how important bitcoin is, and how many coins ARE NOT actually for sale.
5.  The recent large transfers to exchanges as well as record miner outflows are an effort to head off the inevitable...

Where did you find that letter, who reported it?

Added a sauce, thanks.

Got it from the horse's mouth:

I found this story about it.

It gives this link to the letter.

I am proud of my home boy Ted Budd.  Hes a little younger than me but not by much and we grew up in the same city...  Never knew him... but just the proximity means hes a good guy.

Jesus Christ I'm going full degenerate. Just decided to purchase another $100 worth of dip on Paypal with some of the cash balance I've accrued.

I hate myself.

Bob, forget about bitcoin price. It's a waste of time.

You have enough to be free.

Now follow your dreams, full time.

Don't you get it?  Right now his dreams are to buy pocket money amount (in Bawb terms) of BTC on Paypal and obsessing on price.

He's the fucking buddha of following his dreams! Smiley

-snip-

This is my opinion pretty much just the same as yours.

Our main discrepancy is the projected top of the coming bubble.

You call for only 5 digits. I see over a quarter million before the big correction.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Though I think it's likely we will have the biggest correction ever as measured in USD, I think it is also likely we will have the smallest correction as measure in %.

If we do get to your 250k, I would imagine in the WORST case scenario we would drop again to 80k.  But I would bet on even less of a drop... 150 maybe.

On the other hand I 3D printed my crystal ball out of glow in the dark filament.  I have no idea how accurate it really is.

Citybank said a $300k coin next year.

Jokers...

Citigroup has 204,000 employees.  Not really surprising that different parts of the business have differing views on related topics - the $300k bitcoin proposition came from their FX business (so looking at it from a currency perspective and was almost certainly being deliberately provocative); the assessment of Micro Strategy is from Equity research (looking at the future for the Micro Strategy business).  Expecting everyone at Citi to have exactly the same perspective is like expecting bitcointalk to only have one view on bitcoin ...

Even setting aside the size of the organisation and the different business views, one can be both positive about an asset AND believe someone is over-exposed to that asset at the same time.

Then where's the value in their views? Selective memory for a fortune teller? As long as you have 2 divisions they can always issue opposing "views" and you only "remember"/talk about the correct one win/win situation

The two views are about totally different things: the first is about the potential of Bitcoin as a currency; the second about their view of Microstrategy and their business.  Even if they believe consistently that Bitcoin will increase in value in the medium term (12 months say) they may also believe that Microstrategy are diverting funds in the short term (ie now) at the cost of investing elsewhere and that may have an adversely impact on their business.

I should say I don’t know specifically what the rationale underpinning their views actually is I am simply showing how I think it possible for an organisation to hold both views and still be consistent.  I’d also say that in any case I think your expectation of absolute consistency across such an organisation is probably unrealistic, but not because of any carefully thought through malice and simply because they are so large with such differing business drivers across different divisions that they have naturally different views.

I agree firmly with this nuanced view.

MSTR has basically put it's entire balance sheet on one asset.  If they had done it with GOLD I believe CITI would do the same thing.  If they bought only shares of CITI... same thing.

In today's climate the one ridiculous move they could have made was use all the money to buy up MSTR shares.  That, in today's wackadoodle world, would be OK. Smiley Lol.
