2502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN][GOLDCOIN] Free All-Expenses-Paid New York Crypto Convention Trip on: March 14, 2014, 08:38:18 PM

We're looking for a well-spoken knowledgeable Goldcoin advocate to travel to the April crypto convention in New York. Over the past eight days we've raised $360 with 11 hours remaining on the campaign. I will also be donating ten 1K GLD paper wallets to be handed out at the event.

If you're a current Goldcoin investor, live within driving distance of NYC, and would like to represent Goldcoin at this event, please apply here: https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=2366.0
2503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: **Breaking news** Satoshi Nakamotos identity revealed on: March 08, 2014, 06:02:25 PM
I feel sorry for the guy now that his identity has been revealed. He looks like a humble, down to earth guy who just wants to be left alone.

He'll probably feel better after he gets that huge BTC donation that's incoming.  Grin

Whether they go up or down relative to USD is irrelevant, ups and downs relative to bitcoin are more useful since as long as your trading results in increasing numbers of bitcoins you are getting ahead and will be way ahead the next time USD crashes abysmally relative to bitcoin, which is quite a common occurrence. For example late last year USD crashed to something like 1/10th of its value or worse compared to bitcoin, and in the few years bfore that it crashed to what, 1/1000th of its relative value or worse?

Comparing to something like USD wihch is always in general tending downward and might even be in its death-throes seems silly compared to checking against something like bitcoin that keeps on tending upward despite the best efforts of various parties and opponents and such to drive it down.

http://crypto-prices.com/GLD  this isn't up over the last 24 hours, it's down.

Market prices fluctuate as you might be aware. At the time of my post the price was up 2% on the day.  Smiley

Yea, bitcoin fell, but it recovered...  others have not recovered

http://crypto-prices.com/BTC

Bitcoin hasn't recovered as it's still 50% off the high, plus there are lags that have to be accounted for in the price movements.

Lol, look at it over a month:

Yes. Until we get more fiat exchanges, altcoins will be subject to the ups and downs of Bitcoin. Plus we've pretty much been keeping the Java client under wraps until today. I think Goldcoin will be the first mineable crypto currency with a multi-platform Java client[/url].

All the coins on Cryptsy are nosediving, except for Litecoin.

GoldCoin (GLD) is up 2% on the day!

The word is probably getting out about the new open-source Java client coming this spring.  Cheesy

Aside from all those externalities, what do you want in the coin code?

The code should be creative, elegant, and beautiful. The greatest software engineers are artists at heart.

2516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Bank FlexCoin Closes After Hacker Toys with Weak Code on: March 05, 2014, 03:52:39 PM

The World’s first Bitcoin bank has closed after a hacker discovered a weakness in the company’s code and made off with $600,000 in bitcoins.

FlexCoin, a bitcoin storage service that boldly claimed to “solve nearly every problem that exists with the Bitcoin currency today”, has shutdown after losing 896 bitcoins from its front-end. Yesterday, the company explained that the problem resulted in a design flaw in the site’s hot wallet:

"The attacker then successfully exploited a flaw in the code which allows transfers between flexcoin users. By sending thousands of simultaneous requests, the attacker was able to “move” coins from one user account to another until the sending account was overdrawn, before balances were updated."

According to a report by PC World there is some uncertainty as to whether all users will be refunded as the site’s terms of services states that the company “is not responsible for insuring any bitcoins stored in the Flexcoin system.” And the company’s updated website message states:

"As Flexcoin does not have the resources, assets, or otherwise to come back from this loss, we are closing our doors immediately."

This news is being widely circulated among major news outlets this morning at a time when the mainstream media apparently has an appetite for negative bitcoin news. A lot of the reporting tends to place the blame on Bitcoin when in reality these problems are caused by shoddy operations and negligent management.

Today’s market price is down 4.5%  with bitcoins trading at $662.00 at last check, according to Coinmarketcap.com.

maxcoin dying..

Max is talking this coin up constantly on his RT show. I personally don't see any way this coin could die unless Max Keiser abandons ship.
2519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: March 02, 2014, 05:57:48 AM
the number of coins from a new mined block should reduce until transaction volume rises.

That's an awesome idea, but I think people would just start sending coins to themselves as a work-around.
