...
You've clearly not been to universities.
I've certainly not been to universities but having invested in bitcoin as early as 2014 (!) is source of great pride for me.
Maybe I'm not the brightest person on the planet, but I can recognise a disruptive revolutionary technology before everybody else when I see one  Cool

>disruptive revolutionary technology
U talking about my BTCeanies?  Cos I sure hope you're not talking about that Satoshi thing from the oughts, the one that hasn't made it out of beta & Is dying as we speak.
Yes I originally wanted to invest in Beanie Babies but wife said "you're better off with the invisible coins so I don't have to see them around"!

I bought some Beanies in any case but she doesn't know  Cool

I'm a renegade investor eheh  Cool

Me too!  Me too!  I'm a renegade and I bought a shit ton of Beanie Babies too:

That's me in my living room.  These things really are priceless.  Worth more than any Bitcoin.   Cool
2522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Europol Cybercrime Report: The Dark Side of Bitcoin is Coming Into Light on: February 26, 2015, 07:24:05 PM
You can't send large amounts of cash on PayPal without verification.

Not exactly true. The whole argument that dollars are the same as bitcoin is bs. You can't send dollars with same speed and convenience as bitcoin.

Can you not? PayPal and other such systems seem to transfer money instantly. You can't send bitcoins without there being a paper trail as it's all recorded on the blockchain so you could argue cash in a suitcase across the border is just as easily moved. I think the point people are trying to make is any excuse you have for bitcoin being used for bad things always applies to cash too, and in far greater numbers.

fiat is the way for criminal activities, everyone telling you something else just doesn't know better.
criminals dont use crypto, they have bankers that solve their needs.
a great example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_of_Credit_and_Commerce_International

the new HSBC scandal would be an actual case

Thats what i am saying all along, criminals are using whatever they can, its not like bitcoin made them criminals, and just like they can use bitcoin, they also use fiat, you cant ban everything just because some people misuse it. What can be done, and probably will, is to regulate exchanges, making them mark accounts that are using crypto for illegal activities.

cheers

Exactly, the largest scale crimes are being committed are by banks, like HSBC.

Basically faciliating the money laundering operation of the largest drug cartel in Mexico.

$9.4 Billion is way more than any Bitcoin related crime or cybercrime.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-07-02/hsbc-judge-approves-1-9b-drug-money-laundering-accord

Quote
HSBC was accused of failing to monitor more than $670 billion in wire transfers and more than $9.4 billion in purchases of U.S. currency from HSBC Mexico, allowing for money laundering, prosecutors said.

You want real crime?  Look no further than the Banking system.
2523  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is OS really important on: February 26, 2015, 07:08:44 PM
Windows or MAC OS is fine, as long as you have security in place;IE solid antivirus software and firewall.

Just make sure you backup your wallet, either to offline hard drive or USB stick, and/or Paper wallet as well.

If you're really security conscious, you may want to consider one of these hardware wallets for another level of security:

Wife's birthday is in two weeks, I told her that we were going to have dinner in town for her b-day, but if bitcoin doesn't go to the moon soon we are probably going to have to eat this canned tuna and noodles (kids love noodles  Cool) next month too  Huh

Family decided to get to wife's mother for the weekend (so she said) so maybe I have more time to study coindesk news now  Cool

Go bitcoin, go!

Waiting for dev roadmap!

Hey what a kwinkie, I'm waiting for the dev roadmap too!   Smiley

Personally, I'm a big fan of this type of noodles:

You could literally live off those noodles.  Literally.
2525  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 26, 2015, 06:08:49 PM
Price not going up? Where is dev?  Huh

@billyjoeallen stopped buying MOAR ...
Is he one of the devs?

Dev promised roadmap "coming soon".

I'm hodling strong but children are screaming and wife hates the invisible coins.
What to do?

Is this scam?  Huh

re wife: flowers, always flowers.

This is true. Buying flowers to wife is always smart, but economically it is the equivalent of burning coins.

Hopefully you don't buy your wife Tulips, AMIRITE!   Grin

2526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Is The Media's Effect To Bitcoin? on: February 26, 2015, 05:47:47 PM
Already some positive effects in the media.

It's actually been a banner year for the first 2 months, to have this much going on this early in the year.  More positive than negative, and it's only getting better and better...
2527  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: any mining succeess stories so far? on: February 26, 2015, 05:33:47 PM
all i hear is dread, and im planning to get into mining wit 1-3 th/s . any suggestion?

All depends on your electrical costs to see if it's worth it.

The "k/WH" is usually the determinant before figuring out if you should even plug a miner in.
2528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Average Age for Bitcoin/Crypto currency users on: February 26, 2015, 05:28:04 PM
I voted for ages 26 to 40.  Why?  Because that's where I fall under!   Cool

No, seriously, it makes sense, because this is the age where you're most likely to have the income combined with the technical savvy to actually "get Bitcoin".  You're not too old to get "wallets, millibits, and hashes", and you have enough money to take financial risks before your first or second divorce or your first daughter gets married.

Makes sense! Grin

OKCoin CTO Bails Out, Bitcoin’s Future In China Uncertain
http://bitforum.info/t/okcoin-cto-bails-out-bitcoins-future-in-china-uncertain/296

Do you think? Bitcoin will make its way up after the a series of incident involving Bitcoin?

Ban or what?

OKCoin might not be ok after all.

OP, I thought China was going to ban Bitcoin?!!  I thought you said OKCoin is closing shop?   Huh Huh Huh

http://www.coindesk.com/okcoin-gives-away-1-6-million-in-bitcoin-for-chinese-new-year/

Welp, I guess we can just squelch that rumor for the zillionth time.

And please stop linking to Bitforum.info.  Pure bullshit on that site.
2530  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to buy Bitcoins with PayPal? on: February 26, 2015, 04:46:15 PM
Uhm, I'm pretty sure if you really really really wanted to use PayPal to buy Bitcoins, you can do that rather easily with LocalBitcoins:

https://localbitcoins.com/buy-bitcoins-online/paypal/

Buying it there at a fair price is a whole other discussion though.
2531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin insurance ever be a reality? on: February 26, 2015, 04:43:24 PM
Today it is now a reality.  Bitcoin insurance provide by BitGo:

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/19382/breaking-news-bitgo-unleashes-fdic-like-insurance-ushering-new-era-bitcoin-security/

Step by step, getting all the infrastructure in place we need.  Lovin' it!!!

2532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's Next For Bitcoin In China? on: February 26, 2015, 04:28:25 PM
Hmmm it sure doesn't look banned from this recent forum thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=969823.0

Guess it isn't banned in China.  Moving on...
2533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why aliexpress don't use bitcoin ? on: February 26, 2015, 04:20:55 PM
Dont they already have something called Alipay ? And just like you would argue for any other store to accept bitcoin, aliexpress already has more options for payments than most of the other marketplaces.

Correct.  They have their own payment system called Alipay, which is why they don't incorporate Bitcoin:

http://global.alipay.com/ospay/home.htm

They'd be cannibalizing their own product by doing so.  If and when Bitcoin approaches their level of transaction volume, I'm sure they'll consider adding it as an option.
2534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coinbase for noobs... on: February 26, 2015, 04:10:28 PM
No problems from Coinbase here.  Bought hundreds(thousands maybe?) worth of Bitcoin transactions.

No problems setting up 2FA, setting up Bank account by confirming the dust transactions, setting up instant buys by adding Credit card, or levelling up to Tier 2 for larger buy amounts.

Coinbase fee is pretty fair, 1% + $0.15 ACH fee for each transaction:

https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/585625-what-is-coinbase-and-how-much-does-it-cost-to-use-

Quote
* User is responsible for miner's fee on external transactions less than 0.001 BTC. Sending between Coinbase users is always free.
** For US Customers, orders less than $15 are charged a flat fee of $0.15. For European customers, there is a bank fee of €0,15 for withdrawals.

...Aiding and abetting tax evasion for the rich elite?...

Isn't that a good thing?
I thought you libertards money rebels hated taxes?

I'm not a libertarian so no I don't think it's a good thing.

I don't mind paying some taxes as long as their fair and proportionate.

It's my understanding that the rich elite pay a dispraportionately large share of taxes.
Why should they pay a larger percentage of their rightfully earned billions than you from your job flipping burgers?  Big Banks just helps Big Biz even the playing field Smiley

Not only Big Biz, but apparently Drug Cartels too!   Grin

2536  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: wordpress removes bitcoin payment option on: February 26, 2015, 03:30:31 PM
While we're on the topic of banks, not only do they launder money, but they rig the Gold price as well!!!!

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/24/us-usa-banks-probe-idUSKBN0LS07P20150224

It seems they huddle amongst eachother like a frat or old boys club...

Quote
HSBC Holdings Plc, Bank of Nova Scotia, Barclays Plc, Credit Suisse Group AG, Deutsche Bank AG, Goldman Sachs Group Inc, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Societe Generale, Standard Bank Group Ltd and UBS Group AG

...and just pick a price out of thin air to set the gold price and other precious metals.  And we all thought just the stock market is rigged! (Flash Boys, read that book if you can)

Can't trust these fucking banks man... Undecided

And here we are squabbling over measly Wordpress removing a Bitcoin payment option.
2537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why bitcoin will fail and this is why on: February 26, 2015, 03:02:25 PM
Reported scammer to Moderator.  I'd suggest anyone reading this thread do it as well.
2538  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: wordpress removes bitcoin payment option on: February 26, 2015, 02:52:55 PM

What if WordPress just doesn't want to support terrorists?

You'd need to ask HSBC, they're pro at laundering money to terrorist organizations.

Yeah, but HSBC does a bunch of other stuff, too.  Bitcoin?  Well, there's this...

-typicaluselessimage-

Not only HSBC but Bank of America as well:
