Not when you factor in power-supply, labor connecting it all, some form of case... (Last time I checked, they didn't ship with power-supplies.)

Add in an overkill power supply for $99 and it's still cheaper. Case not needed. If you really need to host your miner in your baby's crib, I recommend some other product.

I'm actually seriously considering just buying hashpower via Piggyback mining. I bought a small amount already, and the cost is about the same as an antminer when you add in a power supply for a five year contract. I've been using them for two weeks as a "test" and they have paid out on time every sunday. Not a bad deal, actually. I'd prefer to have the miner physically in my possession, but this ain't a bad alternative. And the ability to buy 1 GH/s at a time is kind of cool as well.

It does, however lack the flexibility. I can't mine anything but bitcoin with it. That's not all bad, but as the diff rises, I can play arbitrage games if I have a miner in hand. So, Ant or not ant, that is the question...

Maybe I'll split the difference and try to get a cube or something. I'll have the money to pull the trigger in a few days.

2562  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: March 03, 2014, 03:17:31 AM

These are my two favorite pics on this whole thread. What's yours, gang?

These 2 pics are puzzling.  What's the point?  they are fully stocked on packaging supplies and ready to ship?

For those still debating:

1. yes AMT is a real company that ships rigs from Havertown, PA.

2. They resell technobit boards(hex16b in my case), repackaged in Lian Li cases, with an AMT tag on them.

3.  Quality of parts is great.  at least the boards and chips.  The way they are put together is suspect. Upon delivery, I'd suggest taking a very close look at your rig.  Maybe you will get lucky like Biomech, and it works out of the box.  Or maybe you'll get one like me, or the guy in Florida that got his a few weeks before i did.  Both of ours need some re-working in order to get them mining correctly.

4.  you will get your rig, eventually.  Will it show up when they said it would?  Highly unlikely.

I still havent quite figured out why my rig restarts cgminer every minute or 2.  I may have to disable the cron jobs, and see what happens when cgminer runs for an hour or two.

Well, like you said, I got lucky. But you could try restoring the defaults, as the only time mine started that behaviour was when I fucked around with the settings without knowing what I was doing. I then put everything back to default in the cgminer setup tab, and only pushed buttons that I knew what I was doing with. Since then the only "failures" were when I was mining at an altcoin profit switching pool. My miner didn't get along with his pool. Constant problems. The guy worked with me, so I don't wanna name the pool or badmouth him. I just see it as incompatibility Cheesy

So who stole $300,000,0000 USD worth of Bitcoins and got away with it?

PRIME SUSPECTS:

All Mt. Gox staff:

Mark Karpeles
Gay Butchery Gonzales
+ the rest

ROUND EM UP, LIE DETECTOR THEM

There is a very good reason why "lie detectors", more correctly known as a polygraph, are not admissable evidence. They do not reliably indicate truth, they just measure changes in heart rate, breathing, and galvanic skin response. Anyone with imagination and a modicum of self control can make the operator believe/disbelieve anything they want to. A sociopath will always "beat" a lie detector. So will a practitioner or meditation, yoga, or anything else where iron self discipline is a component.

OK, so supposedly this guy DAVE says that he had a skype call with Jim and saw the 3.2TH (or 2.4TH model) hashing.

If this is the case, they should've had this installed.

2565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Calling Gavin Andresen and others, possibility of restoring MtGox's coins. on: March 02, 2014, 06:03:16 PM
While I don't think it was directed at me, I'd like to address the compassion issue.

While I think it is indeed necessary and right to discuss and if possible mitigate the human cost here, I also think that any "technical" solution that rolls back the blockchain or otherwise messes with the internal working of Bitcoin is NOT compassionate, even though it appears to be. Because if we do that (and the nature of bitcoin makes it so it is ALL of us if it is to be done), then instead of 6 percent loss, it's one hundred percent. I understand that the op was in fact not suggesting this, but rather trying to find a way to recover the keys. But the idea nevertheless got floated, and in more than one place.

I would suggest that all those who lost money in whatever flavor to MTGOX contact the court officers who are investigating the alleged bankruptcy and DETAIL your losses, with such details as they need to prove it. I doubt that the software and user accounts have been destroyed, and the missing coins do exist in the blockchain. I'm not a cryptographic expert. It's something I have some interest in, but my math skills are sub par. I'm good at merchant's math, but not the advanced stuff. Nevertheless, with the experts and the law all on this, it is likely that a fair amount will be recovered and disbursed to the account holders. I very much doubt that Mr. Karpeles personal fortune will be greatly impacted by this, unless he was foolish enough to keep his personal funds on the exchange and/or is found to have perpetrated or been involved. But his company is going to be either sold at auction piecemeal, or be bought out (price of which would likely include settlement of accounts to the extent possible).

While not physical, Bitcoin shares far more in common with hard monies such as gold and silver than it does with modern fiat currencies. It has to be treated as such. You, me, every bitcoin user needs to understand this. You HAVE to have sole access to your private keys at all times, and if you do have coins on an exchange, it should be a fraction of what you have, or be there no longer than it takes to effect the exchange. I think the people who got burned will learn this. I know it kind of came off like I was saying "they got what they deserved" earlier, but that was not my intent. I have personally lost a small fortune due to similar mistakes in my youth. If you learn from it, it's a painful memory. If you do it a second time, then yes, it is your fault.

I also think there is an opportunity here, and I would encourage former holders of Goxcoins to look into this, of offering insurance to the bitcoin market. One can mitigate quite a bit of risk in that manner, by risking a bit more on insurance Cheesy It's a rather old economic model, and one that works. An honest insurance company (they do exist, or at least have) makes a lot of money for it's operators, and mitigate risk in a manner that encourages commerce and discourages stupidity while protecting it's clients against exactly the kind of crap that just went down with Gox.

I guess what I'm saying is that I think the most compassionate thing we as a community can do is encourage those who lost out to be more careful in the future, and to help build the value of the brand. In adversity lies opportunity. It is my belief that so long as we don't allow our feelings to overcome our logic, that bitcoin and BY EXTENSION it's holders will not only survive this, it will become stronger. Mtgox is not bitcoin, much as some of the media would like it to be. It was a corrupt and incompetent company that traded in bitcoin.

"Why? Just because YOU chose the alternative?"

These bastards exist for the sole purpose of oppressing the populace. Their pretensions of "protection" are belied by the very fact that they choose to disarm the law abiding. You want safe airlines? Put a dozen well trained security guards on board with submachine guns. Cheap, effective, and unintrusive. But it don't intimidate and harass the innocent, nor instill fear in an already cowed populace, thus it don't suit the purposes of the Empire. So it won't happen.

I truly hope the preorder madness has run its course.

I doubt it.  You'll recall that Bitmine offered a choice of a reservation queue and a preorder queue.  I always assumed they did it that way because they expected that only very few people would want to preorder.

In the end, though, the community chose to preorders pretty much their entire production for several months, and the reservation queue became essentially pointless.

Yeah, you're right. I failed to remember my Phinneas Taylor Barnum. It is a moral obligation to part suckers from their money...

I don't do preorders. I'll only buy in hand equipment, or at the worst, build on payment from existing parts. Saves me a lot of grief, but also puts me behind the technological curve.

You already got 18X on me. I better get busy!

There's a trick! Every time a Newbie shows up, quote their posts. You'll be golden in a month.

I know you're being tongue in cheek but I won't do that. I remember how I was treated, both in public and PM, when I was a newbie on this forum. I'm an oldschool BBS guy, so I can handle it. But this remains the most hostile forum to the new guy that I have ever encountered, and I am a libertarian anarchist!

There were a few really cool people right away. Alex, you, Greg Maxwell, Rassah and a few others. But god DAMN were some of the others horrid! I was even careful to keep my opinions low key at first, cuz nobody likes a loud mouth they haven't met yet.

The one part of this whole debacle where I can agree with AMT is that they were treated shabbily on this forum. Even before there was any reason to. The thread wasn't an hour old before the usual suspects were screaming SCAM. Where I disagree is them responding in kind. When soliciting business, it's better to take the high road.

I had more, but it got away Cheesy I no like this gettin' old shit...

All proposed solutions for tech unemployment I have ever read are more or less socialist. It will be very interesting if you can to suggest market-base one. Wink

Here is my market based solution
http://darkai.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Resilience-Project-Whitepaper-Draft-3.pdf
This whitepaper is a draft. Read it and let's discuss solutions rather than dwell on the problem and political division is part of the problem. Divide and rule.

Of course I don't expect any of you to read it. You're more interested in debating politics.

I have begun to read it. You write well, and that is a good beginning. I'll post an opinion later.

Edit: I've read about half of it now, and I have to bag it for tonight. Very interesting. I haven't yet read your conclusions, but you make some good points. I won't comment on the problems I see until I have finished the paper, but so far I'm seeing a pretty good framework for debate, at the very least.

I would recommend you post it up as it's own thread, where we can pick at it and hone it.
2571  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Unofficial BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: March 02, 2014, 10:59:08 AM
in 2-3 months (...)
Learn the math first.

or maybe you should research stuff before mouthing off - try some of advanced mining calculators which take into consideration difficulty rise - you're looking at jun-july tops, to be in green, after that you will not generate enough to even cover electricity cost.
if you got access to free electricity good for you, but most people dont.

You are mistaken if you think 28nm chips will not even pay for their own electricity use for an average kWh cost by June.  Otherwise the network hashrate would shrink dramatically as even the most efficient chips couldn't even cover their own power costs  Roll Eyes  I remembered hearing this last September when average difficulty growth was much higher than now and said the same then.  28nm chips will stay profitable until a much smaller fabrication size chips is the majority of the network hashrate.

Why the obsession with process node size? Asicminer 40nm will be twice as efficient as bitmines 28nm chips. Basically means there is much room for improvement/optimization left with 28nm chips before the efficiency has reached its limit.

Fully agree. Right now, the manufacturers are in an arms race, and because time to market is so important, they are taking shortcuts. This in itself is not egregious, but as things slow down and sanity rears its head, things will change.

I think the next iteration of ASIC design will not be aimed so much at lower process mode, but at designing from the ground up for efficiency. It is my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) that most, if not all, of the current bitcoin ASICs are essentially miniaturized FPGA arrays rather than a complete ground-up design. Thus they have a lot of room for reducing redundancies, thus freeing up a lot of silicon real estate. Die shrinks make them bigger and badder fast, but they are not truly optimized. Since the ASIC essentially has one relatively simple task, I suspect that we will soon see chips with much better efficiencies and higher hashrates. But it will probably be a year or more, as that's a much more difficult proposition than what is currently being done.

I truly hope the preorder madness has run its course. Without that perverse incentive, companies will have to focus more on quality and innovation.

Native tongue?
Come on in school my English teacher used native language. If that is what you mean I have posts hee in my native language. I am Bulgarian it is not top secret

I thought you had said that earlier. Nah, I wasn't stirring the pot. I find languages fascinating, especially in how people parse from one to another.

And yes, this is totally off topic, but still.. My dad grew up in South Dakota, in a town with a lot of German and Norwegian immigrants. (Which tends to explain the white side of my heritage Cheesy ). At any rate, he told me of an encounter with a German lady that illustrates my point. People tend to still speak/write their native language in the "new" language's words. The structure and idiom carry over. It's kind of cool, actually. But anyway, the lady had been asked for directions to somewhere nearby, and her reply was:

"Take me at the garden, down by the gate, turn the fence corner round, and go straight up". I always thought that both funny and lyrical, so it's stuck with me for nearly 40 years. Along with a fascination with the differences in the way we communicate. I can't respond to you in your language at all. It's a cool looking script, but it's meaningless to me without the help of a translator. That you can communicate in my language, with some difficulty from time to time, is frankly a feather in your cap.

I know of the town, having lived in Brookings, SD, a spell, speaking of spelling. I sure do miss those crystal clear glacier lakes. My dad own the original Super 8.

Actually, Ipswitch. Since you know my real name, you can probably find a lot of my ancestry there Cheesy It's been a long time since I've been there, but I think Brookings is fairly close. SD is a nice state. Did my very first bit of gold mining up near Spearfish, and been to the Rally twice. Both times on a Honda, somewhat to the consternation of the other bikers.

Heya,

I have followed this thread for days. First what I thought was somewhat amusing about a possible scam company later seemed to be something premeditated and definitely elegit. I have been evaluating which company to purchase mining equipment from over the last two weeks. Very carefully in fact.

I didn't hear of AMT until I came to this forum. After reading this thread, (not all of it, but lets say about 20-30 pages here and there) I came to the conclusion this company actually exists in America and is actually shipping miners!

I called and left a message and jim (the one and only most famous jim called me back yesterday afternoon. I mentioned to him that I was somewhat doubtful of their delivery situation or even if they had a working miner. Seeming a bit frustrated, he offered to have a Skype call with me. The quality wasn't that great because he was using Skype over his phone, but I could clearly see he was in a lab of some sort, and he showed me a miner they were working on, the 2.4 and showed me the screen with cgminer and it was hashing at about 2.2ish.. He apologized for not having a video up yet and said they are still working on it. He sounded tired.

He also invited me to the office, was very cordial and polite, and explained that this forum is nothing more than foreign resellers trying to tarnish their reputation. He also said they were late in shipping yes but are in fact shipping currently, he swung the phone around and I saw several guys assembling or what it looked to be building miners. He gave me viable reasons why they were and it all seemed completely understandable.

I placed an order for one 3.2Th yesterday. My Order # is 1603 .

I would like to tell others out there, that out of all the companies I have tried to contact - this company has the worst PR on this forum, and that I suggest you call and speak with the manufacturer directly before placing an order, because (at least in my case or from my point of view) AMT is a young company in America with a good product.

David

Super,
I can show you a lot of fancy things from my miners. Will you place an order with me?
No right?
Good luck...

He probably would not place an order from you because who knows where the hell you are from. Where the hell is Bulgaria anyway!? The only thing I know about Bulgaria is that AMT hired cheap labor in Bulgaria to do a job and got a piss poor product - and now builds everything in these great united states..

Technobit is far from a builder of "piss poor products". Martin is one hell of a designer. He also got to market with a WORKING Coincraft A1 based hashing board before Bitmine was able to. Let's be a bit careful here, eh? Being a fanboi is ok. Being a dick is pushing it.

I have followed Technobit pretty much since they started. I can attest, from my rebranded AMT HEX16B's, that they make a fine piece of equipment. My problems with AMT are over how they conduct their business, not the equipment vendor they worked with. This is a rock solid miner.

Loshia, I believe, can directly attest to that with the very same boards. I also know that he has at least one of the HEX8A1 boards, which if AMT had been smart, all of you would be now hashing with.

That is exactly what I've been trying to tell everybody here, but nobody will listen to me. I will try one final time and that is it. Ready? Here goes!

This forum is nothing more than foreign resellers trying to tarnish AMT's reputation.

Therefore, I'm going to form a CO-OP made up of only American resellers to combat them foreign resellers, thus saving AMT's ass, for they are the bestest.

I now need to apologize to my fan base because I have reversed my position. My order number is 1604. Don't ask me what I bought, for I ain't got a clue, but it's shiny and I saw the styrofoam that's going to protect it during shipping, probably some time next week.

Me so happy!

<Note to self: That earlier accident may have tarnish my brain. May have to sew other driver.>

Uh, Phinn, you're a hundred years to late. It's no longer legal to resell Americans. Only the Federal Government can own slaves.

2576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: March 02, 2014, 10:06:06 AM
KnC needs to put up a sign... BUY at your OWN RISK! As refunds may not be turned in the same currency your product was purchased in. Smiley

on that note is it true that the 3rd batch of knc miners (the ones they are selling now) don't have a refund?

somehow i can't seem to get an answer to this (or it is obviouse someplace and i read over it)

thanks
Searing

If every thing goes to plan then I can see them saying no to refunds, but if miners change from physical to virtual or there is a delay in production then they cannot/should not refuse a refund.

I really couldn't care if they say 'no refunds' in the terms, if they can't produce in a timely manner then they have to refund if they like it or not.

I might be delusional but this is how I see it.

It's a principle at least as old as Rome in the common law: A unilateral change to a contract is not valid. Unless you're a government, then such things as morality and ethics have no meaning anyway.

Don't sign nothin' without a lawyer vetting it. YOUR lawyer, not KNC's.

There is nothing on KNC that says that they 'don't refund',  or have I missed something

they did have a point in details of first batch that did say they do give refunds,
but removing/deleting this point on other batches doesn't mean that your not entitled to a refund either.  no?

edit.  I never signed or agreed to any ToC's either

Cheesy I was basically agreeing with you.

They had originally stated that you could get a refund up to the time of shipping. I definitely saw this on their website with the last generation of devices. Can't recall on Neptune, but I think it was there too. Several members have stated (I don't speak from personal knowledge here) that they have retroactively altered their terms after a purchase has been made. This is not legal under any legal doctrine that I am aware of. I'm not a lawyer, but I am married to one. She agrees with me on that point. You can't alter a contract without the EXPLICIT consent of the other party. Any such alterations will not hold in a lawful court.

Hi, I'm new to bitcoin mining. I am starting with a small budget and thinking about beginning with an X1 from minersource.net. I am wondering if BlackArrow and minersource (authorized reseller) are legitimate.

You're probably better off buying an AntMiner S1 and getting delivery right away. Minersource carries those and posted a pic a few days ago of pallets full of them. The X-1 delivery won't happen until May -- if you decide to go that route I wouldn't prepay at this point -- wait and make your decision then depending on difficulty, etc.

To your point, I think other than one prolific poster here, people tend to feel bobsag3 is legit. He's been in business quite a while and does hosting and sales. The guy disparaging him here hasn't turned up any disgruntled customers, just a steady stream of minutia.

Thanks. The problem with an AntMiner is that it's $900. I'm on around a $200-$400 budget. Any other good miners or should I wait and see about the X1?

I don't think Piggyback is even tradeable. It's just a five year mining contract. I use 'em, they do pay out on time. It's a cheap way in for low volume is all. As a major investment, it's twice the cost of an antminer if you extrapolate the cost per GH out. But if you've only got a small amount and want to mine, it's a way in.

It's either people trashing AMT or People hyping AMT. Is it that hard to really have level headed conversation about the company?

I mean for christ sakes. The truth usually lies somewhere near the middle of the two extremes. Or that is what I've found to be true most of my life.
Rik
I offered them 25k for their 4chip board one pic only. Best chance for them to prove they do something.
And they pretend it is never written. Follow my posts and this thread. It was offered several times.
Where is the trurh, there is no such thing in between in this case ....

Loshia, why would they ever send you a board... You're not even in this country.. where are you from anyway with that high level of english?
Simple
1. To earn 25 k usd
2. To shut the mouse of the bigger troll here
Let me remind that I was offered to make a review of their none existent miner. That was amt offer also
Is that not enough
My English sucks (not the highest level) to make you happy but all of you can understand what I mean.
... most of the time :p But you've always clarified when I didn't understand.

I don't get why they wouldn't take your bet either. It's free money if they're on the ball. If I were them, and they are legit, I'd definitely have taken it. Hell, I'd have taken the bet you offered me if I had the money to risk Cheesy But that's the gambler in me and not relevant to the moment.

Out of pure curiousity, and feel free to ignore me if you don't want to reveal it, what is your native tongue?
