2561  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-06] BTC price rises more than rival cryptocurrencies in third quarter on: October 07, 2017, 08:40:47 AM
  • Bitcoin was the top performing cryptocurrency out of the top five in the third quarter
  • Investors shifted from altcoins like ethereum back to bitcoin
  • Bitcoin had an eventful quarter including a "fork" and increasingly stringent regulation from China

Bitcoin was the top performing cryptocurrency in the last three months, despite the mega-rally earlier this year in so-called alternative coins, or altcoins. Out of the top five cryptcurrencies by market capitalization, bitcoin reigned supreme in the third quarter. The digital currency was up 74 percent. Bitcoin cash, the digital currency created after bitcoin split, was not included as it was not trading for the entire quarter.

2562  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-06] Why Fidelity Is Mining Bitcoin and Ethereum on: October 07, 2017, 08:33:15 AM
Quick note about the company mentioned in the article
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fidelity_Investments (have a look at their turnover)

Fidelity CEO Abby Johnson surprised a tech conference this spring by revealing the brokerage giant didn’t just study cryptocurrency. It was also mining the digital assets—and making money while doing so.
It turns out Fidelity has been at this for three years, using its own computers to harvest the digital currencies bitcoin and Ethereum, which today trade for around $4,300 and $300 respectively.
Hadley Stern of Fidelity Labs tells Fortune that the U.S. based mining operation is very modest, however, and the undisclosed profits—CEO Johnson reportedly told the conference the mining “is actually making a lot of money”—are mostly the result of cryptocurrencies’ dramatic rise in value. (Bitcoin traded as low as $200 in early 2015, while the newer Ethereum was just $8 at the start of this year.)

Bitfinex Motivation behind SegWit2x trading pairs

Quote
One of the interesting characteristics of open-source projects is that developers are free to split the code into new projects if they want to take a project in a new direction. In open-source terms, this is called forking the project.

I would say that one of the interesting characteristics of doing such a thing, dear Bitfinex, is to profit as soon as possible from this game. Inflating useless tokens in the market before the time.
Again, we are becoming worst than the ones we wanted to replace in the first place.

2564  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 06, 2017, 06:21:00 AM
what are the wallets or exchanges that supports the bitcoin chain split? anyone?

Bitfinex has released a statement more or less to the effect that, following the chain split, should the original chain cease to exist, Segwit2x will be the new BTC. Should the original chain continue in any way, it will keep the BTC ticker and Segwit2x will be listed as B2X.

It sounds me like a diplomatic move to say, hey, we are one of the biggest exchanges, we will let you trade SegWit2x coins when they arrive but please consider that if the "old" or "original" bitcoin chain will live it will stick to the real ticker BTC BTC.

When I look at these alternative projects I realize we are becoming like the ones we were supposed to replace. We are introducing the rules of the financial world here in the crypto world.
Creating wealth from nowhere, the new crypto elite creating money from nothing.
Money is money, right?

What do you think R3 Corda and all the other Distributed Ledger Technologies are for?
The plan has always been to replace fiat money that only the big boys can cantrol.
No banknotes, no plastic cards, no cheques: everything stored in these DLTs that hackers will love to break one day.
That is not the future I want.
2567  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-05] Above $4,300: Bitcoin Is Up, But Is It Out of the Woods? on: October 05, 2017, 05:54:50 PM
The bitcoin-US dollar (BTC/USD) exchange rate is gaining altitude after the bearish Doji reversal seen earlier this week failed to keep the cryptocurrency below its 50-day moving average.
At press time, bitcoin is trading at $4,325; up 1.46 percent as per data from CoinMarketCap. The two-day sell-off ran out of steam earlier today at the low of $4,150. The subsequent rebound then gathered pace above the 50-day moving average of $4,187.
However, the rebound from the 50-day moving average support seen in the one hour indicates the fears over the event are overblown. So, is bitcoin set to fly high or is the rally a bull trap?

Come on Jimbo, don't lose your faith. Don't forget your motto for every post you make: Go Bitcoin Go!
It is our mantra in the long run to $5000.
Anyway, I did a bit of trading between yesterday and today, used some tips from you guys in this thread and got a nice 0.09BTC profit.
One can be a holder and a trader sometimes: it's always good to enrich the btc stash
2569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: October 05, 2017, 05:44:50 PM
Random airdrops don't really make any sense. People will dump anyway: I think there could have been better ways for distributing byteballs but this is a bit like bitcoin. In the long term we will see this coin real value. Most of the people who had bitcoin in the early days sold BTC at 1$, 10$, 100$, 1000$
There was no ICO here: this is already a plus on the long term
2570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: October 04, 2017, 06:32:33 AM
I will share also my thought about BB.

Let's start from TA for GB. There is no such thing like technical a. Simple reason is "to many free money" in hands of big ones and greedy ones.
Until GB holds value and it still above 200$ there will be someone to dump.

There is no such thing like "oversold" for GB. Reason above.

Now for future:
Once airdrops will be back i think we need about 2 to 3 months to get back people and theirs money.
Next airdrop will not bring any significant price rise as people found hard way there is no airdrop this month so "why should i care"....
Once airdrops will be back, we will see first month slow move and volume up. But there will be still people waiting for any pump to dump their coins so be prepared.
It will be like at the beggining of BB. It took 4-5 month to get to ATH because of people and that they pay attention.

Once we will have second month people will wait for next one and next one and then we should see price rise and possibly new ATH.

If in mean timei there will be some good news this should help even more to move the price up.

Bitcoin was dying so many times.....
Good post but I'd respectfully disagree about not being able to do TA. Absolutely you can do TA on byteball. Or at least I can, I'm quite happy with placement of trend lines on my chart.  Cool

Byteball is still in a clear bear market I'd say, and remained so even during the all time high. No doubt this is due to the extreme high inflation with monthly distribution (dumping) of coins into the market which was, especially in the first months, deposited largely to weak hands. However I am not criticizing the distribution method. It is what it is and you have to start somewhere and get the coins distributed. I view this method as much much better than via an ICO which was one of the things that drew me to this project in the first place.

Anyway, I think dynamics will change now in interesting and potentially more bullish ways. For a start byteball is becoming more scarce. Because its gone down in value there is less incentive to cash in free money, coupled with that the amount given to linked bitcoin holders is drastically reduced, so that means the incentive to sell and the amount that can be sold (by the weaker hand bitcoin holders) are all reduced. On top of all that there is no distribution this month causing scarcity of supply for this month which adds to what I already described.

While there are still a lot of byteball to be distributed, I think that now they will mainly go to invested byteball holders with much smaller portion to the bitcoin holders. ie more of these holders will probably be stronger hands. So yes there will be continued downward pressure while distributions are still inflating the supply on the market but for reasons I stated I think this will be less than before.

Aside from those observations on a technical level byteball looks oversold even within its bearish trend.

These are all reasons why I've been buying, not to mention that I think the technology is amongst the most interesting I've seen.

Excellent recap guys. This is what it is now. Weaker hands are selling their free coins. If bagholders would have dumped their coins this coin could be already dead. But it's far from dead. Tonych slowly releases new features and other devs keep adding bots to the store. As I've already said I've jumped in at the beginning and will try to be here as long as possible.
Volume will come, BTC bullish trend gets all the attention right now
2571  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 04, 2017, 06:21:26 AM
Altcoins are going down because of the sell pressure of the big investors, they want to accumulate BTC, so they can get a free airdrop from BTCgold....  Roll Eyes

LOL, so there's something called BTC Gold coming up now? You've gotta be kidding me, I didn't know about that all.

I didn't even completely extract my bitcoin cash off from my bitcoin wallets... Now I'll be getting BTC Gold too? I literally am not interested in such pathetic trash! Cry

No problem.
Can you do me a favor? Once BTC Gold is launched (Oct 25), can you move your BTC to new wallet and just give me your unused private keys?  Tongue

I don't get why bitcoin holders do not realize that every alt coming out from bitcoin eventually is our best way to get more free bitcoins! Pathetic trash you called it. I agree! But do you know what it's been used in farming as a fertilizer?
Shit! I mean real shit! Now they call it compost.

So let them create their alts so that we can dump them for BTC. Easy
2572  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-04] Bitcoin: $6,000 and Beyond? on: October 04, 2017, 06:09:37 AM
Bitcoin will quickly rise to $6,000 and you’re all foolish for thinking otherwise. At least, that’s what industry experts are saying. Of course, they added one important caveat: expect volatility to continue.
The cryptocurrency community has fallen on hard times as of late, but that hasn’t stopped the industry’s brightest minds from maintaining their bullish bets on BTC. The next major target that experts are eyeing is $6,000, which is a nearly 40% increase from current levels. According to analysts quoted by CNBC, $6,000 could become reality by year’s end.

Easy and clean: governments will work on the one and only thing that gives them a bit of control over bitcoin: all the third parties involved in the process.
I mean everybody wants to cash out every once in while and this seems their only method to keep an enye on bitcoin users. Hard times to keep our bitcoin as we like it. Really looking forward to the day we won't need to exchange for fiat anymore

SafeDice already has instant working withdrawals but for low amounts only (I'm talking Bitcoin Here, don't know about Monero and Bitcoin Cash).
I do like the way he keeps most of investors funds in cold storage and I am happy to wait a bit more to get my withdrawals processed.
So please let's not say wrong things here.
I do agree that customer care and helpdesk should be treated differently but hey, who sticks on SD, knows all this. I see many new registered users complaining straight after registering because their depos don't show up.
Sometimes they don't even know what a tx confirmation is...

2575  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 03, 2017, 04:00:08 PM
one can't be unaware of bitcoin prices for too much. It looks like ages that I don't see the charts and actually is 1 day only. Jeez...
Our Choo Choo friend needs more coal. It looks like we are running out of steam.
Hopefully $4000 is there to stay but we can't never be sure here. I noticed a bottom at 4212 on Stamp, let's see if it confirms.
2576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: October 03, 2017, 03:41:32 PM
If I would have to positive I could say that looking at the extremely low volume that is driving these last dumps one could argue that actually most of the coin holders are not caring much about the price otherwise we could have seen a hell of a huge dump (with ove 2000BTC traded). This does not look the case even if this downtrend does not look good.
I wonder really what kind of price the whales are waiting to start another rally.
My two bytes, as usual
2577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: October 02, 2017, 06:00:46 PM
0.06 BTC looked like the end of the downtrend but then we experienced a big dump. Clear trap. I hope people will not fall for it again. This coin now really needs some volume to keep up with the other useless coins which are getting traction recently. It's really sad to see this coin so undervalued.
I think the fact that it's been seen as "free Money" does not help.  However, I'm very curious to know what the new features will be in the next wallet release.
2578  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-29] IBM’s Future Blockchain Projects May Give New Meaning to its Name on: October 02, 2017, 05:52:32 PM
I think it's better to stick to Bitcoin-only press. I would say this news is completely not relevant here. Big companies and consortia are leveraging this huge marketing thing called blockchain to sell new stuff/services to companies that don't even need it.
Private blockchains, like the one mentioned, are newspeak: they mean nothing.

Sorry about all of the issues everyone has been experiencing on SD - There are some recent updates being made to the site which has most likely caused them. Please be sure you send a message to support@safedice.com (new support email). The old email will no longer be used (safedice@protonmail.com). You should get a reply with a resolution shortly after sending a support email.

It has been five days with no reply (email sent to the new address). Only tiny BTC amounts can be withdrawn (hot wallet has been emptied). Many people are even waiting for their deposit to show up while they are confirmed on the blockchain. Come on guys, I love this site but you really need to improve customer care and basic helpdesk.
Safedice has been inactive here on BTT for almost a week now.

Hi karartma1 I'm currently responding to email but some of them were due to error that has been solved (like global downtime for few hours). I'll eventually come across your message but please re-send your email with your BCT username so I'm certain its you.
I'm sorry to make you worry, our hot wallet is still accepting most withdrawal (up to ~ 3 btc). I have refilled them just in case, and I'll help directly for even larger withdrawal.
Hi SafeDice, thanks for getting back to us. I’ve forwarded my previous email and specified my username on SafeDice. What I wrote still stands anyway: I know you always proved yourself professional and reliable but don’t you think it would be better to improve the overall customer care and helpdesk experience? This is a win-win for everybody.  Thanks
