2561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Margin Trading versus Investing on: February 18, 2021, 04:14:53 AM
How sure are you that this will work and return a profit? A lot of signals groups (especially if they lose leverage) don't turn a profit - some do but the majority probably don't and most pass the trades they have higher certainty on to the free channels in advance or lie about their potential profits (as in saying how much they'd make if they went in at the buy price and sold at the last take profit - which wouldn't be done in anyone's strategy as the win rate would be ridiculous)

I'm going on a report from an independent website https://safetrading.today/traders/crypto-rocket-signals/ although i'm not 100% i'm interperetting the figures properly. It looks very transparent in terms of their reporting and at $90 isn't too much to trial. I'm trying to figure out how much a 5K margin balance could bring in. I guess it's hard to say without giving it a go.

They don't look to have reported ANYTHING since September though? That looks a little problematic.

Don't trust signal groups with their signals! But, most of all, don't trust them with your funds!

Yeah autotrading rarely works. A lot of the autobots like cornix that can track signal groups have errors where they don't properly set stop losses (so you can end up getting liquidated on leverage instead - even if the group is fairly accurate normally).

The groups themselves can sometimes work for determining sentiment/finding key resistance/support points but other than that they aren't really reliable.

With a hyperthetical USD 50,000 would you invest in bitcoin or use the money to fund a margin trading account
Just invest it and hold.
You could take $5k and make a decent amount on margin while keeping the $45k on the exchange - I wouldn't go higher than $5k though.

(the trades will all be made by trading bot handled by signals group with 100% return)

2563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Futures open interest might hint at market top... on: February 17, 2021, 07:33:24 PM
Now here is the situation. If there is little bid side liquidity how will the $50000 get closed? The most the $500 investor can lose is $500, where will the other $49500 come from?

Owning a cfd is not proof of ownership of the underlying asset. Coinbase and binance fiat exchanges are dojng fiat to fiat trades. You'll be deleveraged if they don't have the funds to cover you (while using leverage).
2564  Economy / Economics / Re: "Looks as if #Bitcoin is eating #Gold". Good idea to buy some Gold now? on: February 17, 2021, 06:29:29 PM
Tbh I prefer platinum but gold has a value in history (and then less of a value if you drop murcury on it 😁).

I was thinking of making a thread recently as in the last cycle, a friend sent me a message of bitcoin surpassing an ounce of gold and were now almost at a kilogram.

Gold saw quite a dramatic bull run though. When I first looked at buying some I think 100g in 2015 was a lot lower.
It mightve been pushed up because of negative interest rates too (or no interest) and people needing a hedge.
2565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: binance futures managing loss on: February 17, 2021, 05:11:44 PM
Stop trading!

Or start paper trading or put a few $ (20 Max) on an exchange and start trading with that. Watch charts, see how they move and where the best time to put a trade in is (draw lines on the graphs too for where you think stuff is going to go).

If you're not turning a profit, you're not going to raise capital and you're just going to lose funds.

(also cut out the leverage if you want a less riskier way to build capital thatll take longer but should lose you less overall).

Edit: a 70% win ratio can still cause a loss if managed poorly. A few $ profit is better than 200%, just don't risk more than 10% of your capital on a single trade).
2566  Economy / Speculation / Re: Futures open interest might hint at market top... on: February 17, 2021, 05:05:37 PM
Not sure if it's easier to predict the bottom, to be honest. And depending on the timeframe too. 30k still possible or 90k next? And we're talking about 3, 6 or 9 months til end of the year?

For anyone wondering why people say they couldn't predict the top last time, it's because there was a price correction just before it in 2017... I think the price did something like $17k to $12k to $20k in a month or two as I remember $18k being reported as a new top.

We still had leverage back then, it was smaller but so was the market cap... There are a lot of people doing a few times leveraged lings. Most are pointing at us going to 62k and then to 29-39k or vice versa (eg we could liquidate everything over 3x before we get there and might even go further).

A 5x long with a tiny liquidation price doesn't look too bad now.. At $3k the chance of us dropping by half was a lot higher than it is now we're at $50k and have a lot more people looking at the market.

crypto is one of the highest risk markets out there for leverage trading
2567  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About my wallet! on: February 16, 2021, 08:56:40 PM
What coins and what money?

Are you trying to convert cryptocurrency in your wallet to fiat that can go into a bank account or the other way around?

(simplified: are you cashing out or buying in).

If wanting to cash out just find an exchange that is able to operate in your country (many people use binance or coinbase) and send your funds there where you can withdraw at a later date.
2568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overview of lightning network nodes owned by forum users on: February 16, 2021, 06:57:40 PM
I finally managed to set up a permanent node again. Since the transaction fees have been quite high right lately, I am going to gradually open a few small channels in the next few weeks. I should be able to open the first channel today, though.

Code:
Username: Rath_
Node URI: 03b6abdf7118793e442bb5e365adf77acd2e2861b58a750f7df700b7a6def7b7a4@yz3ccvircvty4w652lg6nfx4fkps5ozfhdozd3yb3ezizohkbmjmucid.onion:9735

Also, @jackg why don't you alter darkv0rt3x's node details in the first post so that they look like other entries on the list?

I've added your node to this list.

And I didn't think it was necessary to have them all the same (and they said they were going to update theirs every so often too).
2569  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Struggling to transfer a small amount of BTC from Binance to Bybit on: February 15, 2021, 06:58:14 PM
Obviously, i don't want to spent near a third of the coin i have on binance on transferring it over if i can help it. Is there anything i can do here?
So, you wanted to transfer bitcoin to those addresses? Luckily it popped up warning not to send to the non Bitcoin addresses, because that will be the beginning of you looking for your lost Bitcoin which will not be recovered. You can only send Bitcoin to Bitcoin address. If you do not want to spend much, then you can first convert your bitcoin to ripple or litecoin, they both have very low withdrawal fee, while the exchange (trading) fee is also low. Then you will be able to withdraw it with low fee to Bybit. After you receive it on your Bybit account, you will convert it immediately back to Bitcoin.

I think eth is also quite cheap for transfers still (but I'm not sure).
I know ripple and litecoin fee to be very low on binance. I do not know about EOS. But, Ethereum fee is high which is 0.005ETH, that amounts to over $9. But using ripple and litecoin come with very low fee.

I paid 0.0000055 eth fee with etoro a while ago - but they might have subsedised the fee.

Ltc can't be deposited on bybit sadly!
2570  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Struggling to transfer a small amount of BTC from Binance to Bybit on: February 15, 2021, 06:08:48 PM
Check the fees for withdrawing eos and xrp from binance and transfer to one of those to deposit onto bybit.

I think eth is also quite cheap for transfers still (but I'm not sure).
2571  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any non kyc fiat to btc exchangers ? on: February 15, 2021, 05:12:43 PM
It's also possible to use bank transfers on decentralised exchanges such as bisq but you might want to chack your aml/kyc regulations before using those systems. You can also use cash in hand transfers with people local (but that might be risky regardless of where you do it - even in a secure public place).
2572  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: New to Electrum help on: February 15, 2021, 01:00:00 AM
Ok thank you, and in the preference options there is "Batch RBF transactions" what does it do?

Rbf is replace by fee. If a transaction has too low a few that the network can't confirm it quickly (or at all in some cases) or you need it confirming fast then you can use rbf on the tansaction(s) to speed them up.

It doesn't cost anything to enable rbf so you're better off leaving it enabled.
2573  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: New to Electrum help on: February 15, 2021, 12:35:55 AM
You can use different addresses to receive each time. The only problem with fees comes in the form of hsving to pay higher fees you you want to make a larger purchase than one of your inputs. It might be wise to consolidate your inputs (send all your funds to a single address in a single transaction in order to avoid this - when fees are low too).

There are many receive addresses to support airgapping, invoices and privacy. If you care about the latter you can also just use the "receive" screen.
2574  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Stablecoin is the most Trustworthy? on: February 14, 2021, 12:12:30 AM
Okay then, centralised exchanges are the owners of these stablecoins, like Bitfinex owns USDT and Coinbase owns USDC? So if a stablecoin fails then the exchange that issued their stablecoin should fail and collapse too correct?

I see Gemini issued their stablecoin GUSD.

So are we looking at all exchanges issuing their stablecoins and the exchange could break down collapse if their stablecoin fails like a double risk right?

You mean like when bitfinex got hacked, lost 33% of all user funds and disappeared...

So the answer is a no to that one. If a coin did drop the exchange might find a way to try to buy back user trust (for example giving tokens or paying in another exchanges token when one falls). But ultimately they'll probably find every reason not to go bankrupt or even lose customers. Your old user base goes in an innovative field? Just wait for more to come through and those who lost everything to be distracted focusing on how they're going to get any money....
2575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Stablecoin is the most Trustworthy? on: February 13, 2021, 08:53:02 PM
Well yeah if its not fully backed then a stablecoin could drop to zero.

Most cexes have been pushing its usage so much that they'll probably cover it imo if it falls. (coinbase have been pushing usdc but I think binance would be able to cover it and return the $ equivelant). .

I'd trust dai or usdc at the moment if I had to pick. I haven't seen much that's fully insured much though atm and maybe someone ought to make one and run it like an insurance firm.
2576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I sell my xrp or wait until $1? on: February 12, 2021, 11:43:17 PM
When did you buy/what price?

If it goes to 0, will you be happy? If you get a loss, will you be happy? Is the unhappiness worth the mere 2x you could make?

Personally, given the ripple turmoil, I'd sell. You could make another 2x some other time in a much safer trade imo - even in the stock market that's possible (over a few months) .
2577  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How is tax calculated on crypto currency conversions? (general question) on: February 12, 2021, 10:45:20 PM
You'd take whatever your profit is on the sale as a gain.

If you're wanting to track each trade, you'd take the initial £1k, and use your 2494 xlm and get £1054.67 and you've made £54.67 in profit (but then subtract the relative fee) .

Edit: for the whole year you could use:
Withdrawals + current value - (amount at last tax year + deposits).
2578  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What does the limit in a stop-limit do? on: February 12, 2021, 10:31:57 PM
If it gets below then the order stays.

It just pushes a limit order out at 31000 if 31100 is crossed.

This means you might get liquidated if you don't forget to change it (if you're leveraged) or it'll remain open until crossed if not using leverage.
2579  Economy / Reputation / Re: A new precedent for giving a red tag?let's discuss has far reaching implications on: February 12, 2021, 01:22:37 AM
Trust is unmoderated and partially democratic by design. You don't like someone's tags, get the people who added them to their trust list to remove them or signal distrust.

In most ways, trust shouldn't matter at all. If you're not actively trading on the forum you can just ignore the tags. If you are actively trading try to build a reputation that quashes your flag.

The system is imperfect though - like every other system that exists.
2580  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: btc-take.com on: February 11, 2021, 06:50:16 PM
It's a scam

There's no reason you'd need to deposit funds to somewhere before being able to withdraw money that's yours.
