2561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Move your bitcoin related website to 'El Salvador' domain name - .SV domain name on: June 10, 2021, 12:42:42 AM
I doubt anyone will actually move their sites. Imagine someone like Binance with millions of links on the Internet leading to Binance.com will suddenly have a redirect to "Binance.sv".  A lot of people will freak out and think they got some malware that hijacks their browser, or that they clicked on a phishing link. .com and .org and .net, and .io if you want to be spicy is all you need, unless it's actually a local project and you need a local domain.
2562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There's no lottery ticket in Bitcoin, it's a savings account on: June 10, 2021, 12:05:23 AM
i feel it is the other way around with dca strategy on the basis of the fact that you buy at certain key price levels with the sole aim of getting a much better value as an entry point which will put you in a better position to make more profits. Microstrategy uses this strategy to accumulate more bitcoin and they would be in big profits in bitcoin turns bullish again. Right now, their average buy is around $24000 to $28000 even though they bought bitcoin from the highs of $40000

The big assumption behind investing in BTC is that it performs greatly on a scale of years, so there's only one good entry point - buy as early as possible. The exception to this rule is if we're in the middle of bull run or just entered a bear market, because the price could go lower in short term. But this just means that you should wait for the bottom.

Microstrategy is doing okay, but if they went all-in at $10k. they would have been better now. Why buy the dip at $50k and $40k if you could have bought at $10k?
2563  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcointalk Market Sentiment Poll 6/8/2021 on: June 09, 2021, 11:28:47 PM
Bearish, you can't call a prolonged 45% decline from ATH "just a dip". After the crash we already failed to retake the $40k psychological level, we might try again now, with all these country adoption news, but if this fails, we'll start testing the $30k support.

There's no rule that says that Bitcoin will keep rising as fast as it did after the previous halvenings, so we might have to accept that this bull run was smaller than the previous ones in terms of relative growth. The important thing that Bitcoin is still growing, so everyone will make some profit in long term.
2564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There's no lottery ticket in Bitcoin, it's a savings account on: June 08, 2021, 11:29:11 PM
DCA is the solution for not being able to get swindled when China bans bitcoins again.

No matter how long it takes, it will pay off. You won't lose your home or have to move back into your parents' house

If you're hodling, than what's the big difference? You ignore the FUD and wait for years until you see big profit. With DCA it will take even longer to see big profits, because your purchase is split across many years. DCA is likely reducing your profits, but it doesn't significantly reduce your risks, because you're still holding a volatile and speculative asset. You can't really compare Bitcoin to saving accounts, because saving accounts guarantee profit. Bitcoin guarantees nothing.
2565  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where is giveaway thread? on: June 08, 2021, 10:15:34 PM
There's no "free BTC", even things like faucets take your time and effort, time and effort which could have been spent productively on earning money that could be converted into BTC, or earning BTC directly. Forget about "free BTC" and focus on good earning opportunities. If you can't earn from this forum, then try more traditional methods like freelance platforms or just focus on your local economy.
2566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I ID'd the Darkside address, ransom transaction and custodial exchange on: June 08, 2021, 09:16:21 PM
I don't know who is more stupid, people who thought that FBI hacked Bitcoin or the hackers who sent coins to centralized exchange without mixing them well enough.

This story should once again prove that Bitcoin is not a good tool for criminals if they don't really-really know what they are doing, and in many cases Bitcoin would even allow law enforcement to seize the funds faster.
2567  Economy / Speculation / Re: I cannot stop buying on: June 08, 2021, 04:55:17 PM
I think I am addicted to buying Bitcoin. I buy only little by little but this is too addictive. I still have some cash but that money is being spent on buying Bitcoin every day. Do you think this is wise or should I stop for few days?

It's not a good idea to have most of your net worth stored in Bitcoin, there's always a risk that something goes horribly wrong and Bitcoin loses a very large portion of its value. This risk might not be big in terms of probability, but it could ruin you.

Invest a moderate amount, and if Bitcoin goes to the moon relative to your investment, you will still make a good profit. No need to be greedy and try to go all in, no one has succeeded with this strategy in long term.
2568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitMEX will place a bitcoin wallet holding 1 BTC on the surface of the moon! on: June 08, 2021, 03:56:40 PM
This is just a publicity stunt from BitMEX, it doesn't mean much for Bitcoin. I guess exchanges are seriously worried about Binance's growth and market share, so they have to come with marketing ideas.

Maybe some day someone will launch a misssion to recover this bitcoin, because this would be profitable, although it might not happen in our lifetimes.
2569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin as safe as its believers say? on: June 08, 2021, 01:50:07 PM
Does the U.S. Department of Justice's recovery of the Bitcoin ransom mean that Bitcoin and even blockchain security have fallen off the altar?

They didn't edit the blockchain. They didn't crack the public key cryptography. They just hacked their servers and found private keys there, which means that Bitcoin security as strong as ever. This is why people oppose altcoins, a lot of altcoins are centralized and would allow government to seize funds without private keys. Tether is known to freeze balances on demand from law enforcement, because it's not a decentralized cryptocurrency, it's a company.
2570  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about bitcoin taxes and signature campaign payment on this forum on: June 07, 2021, 09:35:20 PM
If you think logically, you owe income tax, because signature campaign is like freelance work, and you also own capital gains if the coins you own increase in price since the time you got paid. Income tax should be tied to the value of coins during the time when you got paid. But it's not so easy on practice.

In my country, you can only be paid in fiat money via traditional payment channels, even some p2p electronic payment systems are prohibited. Since Bitcoin is not explicitly allowed in such restricted context, it's basically prohibited, though it's not like there are any legal cases when someone was punished for this. I decided to just not report my signature campaign earnings until there are clear laws that would allows me to do this and pay taxes.
2571  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anonymous against Elon Musk and his BTC and crypto market manipulations! on: June 07, 2021, 07:02:11 PM
It is unlikely that they will be able to harm Elon in any way. Or am I wrong?

They could dig up some of his secrets, and wealthy people tend to have them in no short supply, or they could find something against Tesla. I doubt they would make some attacks, like ddosing Tesla, hacking and crashing self-driving cars, etc.

Judging by Elon's weird reaction on twitter, he is probably scared, so maybe he would shut up for some time.
2572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple announcing crypto emojis would move the price more than El Salvador did on: June 07, 2021, 06:19:27 PM
Always surprises me what moves crypto, stupid tweets by Elon and Chinese regulation rumors cause massive price swings but strong evidence of mass adoption and its like nothing happened? maybe we just need america to wake up?

Those things aren't the cause behind the price swings, they are a trigger for existing price pressure. The market was going to crash with or without Elon & China, they just made the fall occur faster. The cause behind the crash is that there was simply not enough new buyers.

El Salvador news didn't change anything because buyers are still too cautious.
2573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now is the best time to invest in Bitcoin on: June 07, 2021, 03:52:17 PM
The best time to invest in Bitcoin is at the lowest price that will never be seen again. If we will never see below $20k prices again, then any purchase made 7+ months ago was the best at that moment. But now that we're experiencing an almost 50% crash with very weak recovery, it's very debatable whether it's the best time, or if the price will go even lower. Of course you can win big if the bull run resumes tomorrow, but you can also make a suboptimal purchase if the price will keep sinking.
2574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Life Cycle of Bitcoin on: June 06, 2021, 10:37:17 PM
Bitcoin is not a product, it's an open source software. Bitcoin doesn't make sales. The closes analogue for sales is the number of transactions. Bitcoin blocks are full almost all the time, so it's clear that its popularity isn't declining and won't be declining anytime soon. Its competitors are also very weak, none of them has the same security and safety as Bitcoin, and they don't plan to have it.

Yes, all things must come to an end, but Bitcoin will not end in our lifetimes.
2575  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anonymous vs Musk on: June 06, 2021, 08:27:02 PM
Anonymous is a decentralized and very loose organization, so we can't get a proof that the people behind the video represent the rest of the group (yes, I know that the video was posted by verified channel, but in this case it doesn't mean much).

I think people are taking Elon's market manipulation too close to their hearts. How can Bitcoin be a widely used store of value or currency if it can so easily be manipulated by a single billionaire who shitposts memes on twitter? It's clearly a sign that Bitcoin still has to mature.
2576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold ETFs as a "layer 2" solution on: June 06, 2021, 05:00:01 PM
ETFs are centralized, not immutable and not censorship resistant, and they aren't designed to be payment networks. You can't go to a store and pay for goods via transferring money via ETF, but you already can do this with Lightning Network in some places.
2577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Haven't Checked Elon Musk's Tweets For 2 Weeks And Don't Plan To! Life Is Good on: June 05, 2021, 10:46:28 PM
Take it a step further.  If you absolutely have to use Twitter (I don't bother with it at all), try only following people that you know in person.  That would make it less of a cesspit.  All this "celebrity" and "influencer" nonsense rots the brain.

Twitter, like many other platforms, can be entertaining and useful if you just curate what type of people you follow. You shouldn't be limiting yourself to just the people that you know personally, there are good educators and content creators out there. For Bitcoiners, it can be very useful to follow some Core developers or people who work on LN, you can learn a lot, as these guys don't visit this forum or reddit often.
2578  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Covid-19 carrying the growth in digital currencies? on: June 05, 2021, 10:03:58 PM

As a result of Covid -19, in payment preferences, Many companies and authorities around the world are increasingly looking at digital currencies as an alternative way to make transactions in digitalized world. So guys what do you think about ? How will be easy the day today life after adopting for digital currencies?

Scientists didn't find any evidence that cash is a significant vector of covid-19 transmission, so there's actually hasn't been a large increase in digital payment methods. Digital payment methods have already been growing in popularity for many years. And by the way, you shouldn't mistake them with "digital currencies", because they use the regular fiat currencies.

The number of cases when people decided to switch to Bitcoin because they are afraid to catch covid-19 from cash is virtually non-existent.
2579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Maximalism on: June 05, 2021, 07:50:44 PM
This means that Bitcoin can do everything the other coins do today, if developers are willing to integrate new features into the network.

Altcoins promise to do a lot of things, but they don't actually do them. Ethereum is not used to write decentralized applications, it's used to issue scam tokens. Coins with free transactions and "fast" confirmation times are not used as payment method because of their weak security and unstable price. Filecoin, Namecoin and other unique projects - they also aren't used much in real life. IMO the biggest succesful altcoin use-case is privacy, as coins like Monero have popularity on par with Bitcoin, if not greater, on darknet markets.

Bitcoin doesn't need to adopt useless features, it should remain being focused on security.
2580  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: DCA vs timing the market on: June 04, 2021, 03:59:13 PM
DCA tells nothing about selling, so it's already hard to compare these strategies. Timing the market can also mean many different things, buy if you try to daytrading or even do just some short-term trading like buying/selling local dips and tips, you would likely be losing money.

To answer, your question, if I were starting my Bitcoin journey again, I'd buy in the deep bear market, maybe split into 2-3 purchases to gen an average price, and then continuously sell in the bull market instead of trying to time the very top. So, the hodling would take years, and it's no secret that Bitcoin performs very well if you have the basic patience and not aiming to get rich in a few months.
