Last question.
If I rent lets say 5 ph and mine on a pool.
If I find a block, does that mean that if I was mining solo would i have solved that block too
Possibly you could have solved a block , but possibly not given that every given hash is random.
Quote
or the fact that I was pool mining made it easier for me to solve the block?
Nothing makes solving "easier" except lower network difficulty.
Quote
When mining on pool, the advantage is that there are more miners trying to solve a block on their own or do all the miners in the pool work as one?
Each miner in a pool essentially works on their own, with the agreement that if/when they find a block, then that block belongs to everyone in the pool (and the pool owner).

In that case, what does the best share means?
If all shares have the same probability of solving the block why is there a best one ?

Best shares is just to let you know how close you've ever come.
If the network diff is 100billion and your best share is 1 billion then you get to know you've managed to have 1 share that was 1% of the way to solving a block. Knowing best share is both a blessing and a curse. Tongue

When solo mining, if I want to spend some coin on a 5 ph rental, that would give me a probability of hitting a block in 48 hours correct? By sending around 213 b shares. in case that I "start from zero"

Every given hashrate has an on average range/time-frame to find a block. Luck (good or bad) determines if that average is based on 5 shares or 5 years of shares.

Solo becomes a gamble because all of the following equal 1 block every 48 hours* (on average):
  • mine for 48 hours and find just 1 block on hour 48
  • mine for 48 hours and find just 1 block on hour 1
  • mine for 48 days and find 24 blocks on day 48 (and 0 blocks any other day)
  • mine for 48 years and find a block every other hour during years 47 and 48 (and 0 blocks any other year)

*numbers likely off but true enough to make valid point

@Mike, you've just went into the realm of plain stupid and the perverse irony how how wrong you now are isn't worth me even continuing (try some reading comprehension of your own and realize that I just followed what was posted here, there's zero "stalker" in that).

Good day to you, sir.

Man slow down calling someone's oppinion "being a dick"....
It's not his opinion, it's his attitude with someone doing the same kind of not reading the he, himself, had previously done.

You don't get to not read about Bitcoin, ask "dumb questions" (that can be found using search), and then talk smack about the next guy when he did not read about Bitcoin and asked "dumb questions" (that can be found using search). Well, you can do it, but not without being a dick.

First, -ck patiently answered twice about...And Mikestang...
You are missing the fact that Mikestang is giving liveflipcoin crap for ding the exact same thing that Mikestang had done! One month after Mikestang joined, he asked a question that could have been answered using search (but used the "I've only been here a month" excuse for not searching). The topic is irrelevant when Mikestang's attitude is over the action of not using search (by someone that's only been here a month). <- See the douchey, dick irony?
While I think it's great that some folks will answer a question multiple times, giving no reply is far more productive than calling it a "dumb question" just because someone didn't search it.

If 4,000,000,000 ask the same question 4,000,000,000 separate times, it doesn't make it a "dumb question" just because it's been asked 4,000,000,000 separate times (it just makes it a massively annoying reiteration).

i read his post.. he was asking if anyone knew what the best share EVER was and if it was somehow logged..

you see, a share can be MUCH higher then the network difficulty.. i know some were high enough to make a block for many years to come.

Mikestang is being a dick because liveflipcoin didn't search a question that liveflipcoin had; meanwhile, liveflipcoin is pointing out that Mikestang didn't search a question that Mikestang had.
What Mikestang didn't search and was asking holds less relevance than his pseudo-superiority over the next guy doing the exact same thing. It's kind of douchey to dump on the new guy for asking a question "especially in today's internet world" that holds at least a parallel to something you've done yourself in the last 11 months (especially given that Mikestang, himself, pleaded "so you can see how I missed it [having only joined the forum last month]").

I wish people would read about bitcoin and mining before doing it and coming here to ask dumb questions.  And yes, despite the saying, there are such things as dumb questions, especially in today's internet world.  It's like getting a hit in baseball and then you stand there at the plate and ask everyone what you do next and what are the rules.

...that post hadn't been posted to in 20 months, so you can see how I missed it (having only joined the forum last month).

It also has the highest average block size of ALL pools and thus the highest average transaction fees per block found.
http://data.bitcoinity.org/bitcoin/blocksize/6m?t=l
Scroll down to "Blocks size by mining pool" and click on "Average size" twice.

I like that in a topic that boasts of "184 blocks", you pick the last 41 to brag on and ignore the prior 130+ (wouldn't want them 97.0 kB and 50.425 kB blocks showing). Clearly I've offended your basal sensibilities, which has you cherry-picking data, and for that I express my sympathy for you and leave you to obsess over yourself with your miniature horde of sycophantic, servile worshipers...
2570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If gambling is illegal in your country, would you still gamble? on: July 07, 2016, 03:17:08 AM
...How can the government prevent online gambling in the era of Tor and Bitcoin?

The same way the did with music and videos, fine the shit out of a handful of grandmas and 13 yr old girls.
Illegal and enforceable aren't always mutually inclusive.

e.g. people who mine on antpoo vs kano.is get less BTC. Simple.
They just have no idea what they are doing...
I must be one of those lucky morons, because p/hash I made more @ AntPool (albeit that I only stayed on kano.is for like 2 days because I'm not big on the "manual payments" thing in 2016)

As far as "unrelated", I call "balderdash"!
There are those of us (or I may just be the only one, who knows) that use "solo pools" because of reliability issues vs. a full solo setup. When you take that into account and look at how not serious folks here seem to take it, other solo pools become a more viable option. When the "fans" of a pool treat that pool like a wanton whore, you can't really get all butthurt because newcomers feel the same way!

I gave it a shot...  I chickened out and went back to the pool after just over a day...

Yeah, because that how it works best!
And people really wonder why so many stick with AntPool? Huh

"hashrate7d": "11.8T"
That's a mighty long "bit".
