About 2kH/s per core using a Pentium D while surfing the net (20+ pages open) and listening to internet radio.
Pentium D:

im assuming your on p2pool?

No I use - http://www.litecoinpool.org/ - because it's PPS and only mine while my PC is switched on and in the background.  I'm not a big dedicated LTC miner just thought I might as well mine while my CPU is idle and turned on.  Although the RaspberryPi - http://www.raspberrypi.org/ looks interestng and if its profitable I might get a farm of them to go with the farm of 'BFL Singles' I'm building.

2583  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Does windows really use more power than linux? on: March 01, 2012, 12:37:42 AM
okay, but once running is the power consumption i'm talking about, who cares what it uses for the first 60 seconds. Our dedicated rigs run 24/7 for weeks/months.

I just have felt there is this bias towards linux for power reasons which is unjustified from my own tests. I understand people want linux because it's free, but due to my business, I have plenty of windows licenses to use.

Also, i have found windows to be 10x easier to use and WAY more stable so far. Just the ability to swap out video cards without issue is huge. Every time I did that with linux the system crashed and required me to reload the USB stick.

Also as far as remote access, it is not hard in windows anymore than it is with linux. Gotomypc works fine. Or in my case I can have them all connected to my server at work and access them from anywhere in the world with a nice easy to use GUI.

considering SSD's at 30gb are going for under $50, this whole linux usb thing is not looking too good to me anymore personally.

Can you even boot Windoze from USB? Anyway it's not safe for the average Bitcoin user due to all the malware and viruses.  Plus Linux has proved its stability while Windoze will restart nearly every 24Hrs if you have updates on?
2584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RaspberryPi (PC for $25) and LiteCoin mining on: March 01, 2012, 12:28:53 AM
I don't know much about the PSU of the RaspberryPi apart from it's 5v I think.  So I reckon it would use less than 25W while mining?
2585  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Does windows really use more power than linux? on: March 01, 2012, 12:23:43 AM
When I first used Vista many moons ago with 4GB of RAM it would boot up and use nearly 2GB without using anything just after boot.  When I use Lubuntu it boots into less than 0.25GB of RAM  Huh
2586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RaspberryPi (PC for $25) and LiteCoin mining on: March 01, 2012, 12:02:48 AM
For litecoins or for bitcoins?

4KH/s for LTC at minimal electric costs  Shocked
2587  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RaspberryPi (PC for $25) and LiteCoin mining on: February 29, 2012, 11:54:57 PM
Well i dont know how much kms you could possibly get out of it , im think .5 AT MOST , but since it runs linux it should be relatively easy to mine though http://www.arm.com/community/software-enablement/linux.php arm is supported which is a key thing, just a matter of time until a dev gets their hands on it , but that may take awhile since they sell out fast

From this thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=53756.msg641323#msg641323 - I'm expecting at least 3kH/s maybe 4kH/s as they had a phone going at 0.187MH/s  Shocked
2588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RaspberryPi (PC for $25) and LiteCoin mining on: February 29, 2012, 11:47:09 PM

Do you think it will be easy to set up for LTC mining?
2589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: February 29, 2012, 09:52:51 PM
Someone needs to make a Chrome extension to view '.bit' domains or something else making it very easy to view '.bit' domains or it will hinder its adoption being unable to easily view the sites.

See http://dot-bit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2584#p2584 for easy viewing of .bit domains.

Sorry but that is not very user friendly and most people won't bother to do that.  Do you know of any proxy's?

what would you consider easy enough?  A windows installer would be relatively easy to create.

My friend is working on a '.bit' proxy website and eventually '.bit' search engine that can be accessed from any internet enabled browser.  I'll let you all know when it's ready Wink

Just bookmarked your guide in the GLBSE CoinConnect group - http://www.coinconnect.org/groups/profile/5908/glbse - please anyone else feel free to add relevant information about the GLBSE to the group.  Also anyone else can also set up their own groups on there about their own company's/interests and add blog posts, bookmarks, pages, files and other stuff to the group which can be an open or closed group.  You can sign into CoinConnect using your Facebook, Twitter, Google, OpenID logins or anonymously.
2591  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My plan to get some free btc (sorta) on: February 29, 2012, 09:26:11 PM
If your thinking of using the GLBSE you might want to check this related CoinConnect group - http://www.coinconnect.org/groups/profile/5908/glbse - where you will find other interested parties and info on how to set up your GLBSE account and how to use the service.  CoinConnect is the first Bitcoin social network and you can join the site using your Facebook, Google, Twitter, OpenID logins or anonymously.

Now, before I spend too much time on improving the guide, I need address the problem with an being an owner of a company listed.

How well was my bias was removed? Did each company get a fair analysis so far, and if not was it because of a potential bias toward the company, or analysis metric issues?

Yeah I'm happy with my review.  Thanks for the thread as my attempt was rubbish because of my writing skills and it was hijacked by a promoter/fan of another company as it clearly highlighted the major differences between MH/s per BTC invested and MH/s per share purchased.  Also yes I did rush in head first but now I'm offering much better profit predictions.  Thanks.
2593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RaspberryPi (PC for $25) and LiteCoin mining on: February 29, 2012, 05:59:16 PM
Thanks.  I think it deserves its own thread.

Is there an ARM CPU LiteCoin mining program this PC for $25 - http://www.raspberrypi.org/
2595  Economy / Marketplace / Re: A Comprehensive Comparative Look at GLBSE Mining Companies on: February 29, 2012, 05:10:37 PM
It is FINISHED. For the moment. Should more mining companies come into the arena, or if information about a company changes, the list will change. For now, I'm going to stick to updating this weekly, and see where this takes us.

The CEO fee of 1BTC a month to buy back the company shares for the company doesn't come into affect until after the IPO has finished and we are operating at 2.5GH/s profits minus an estimated £35 for electricity.

Yeah I've thought about an investment fund based on BTC mining companies but don't have the funds to set it up  Huh

Yup... downloading a text file, renaming it, then doubling clicking it is super hard.  I can barely get through my day because of all the double clicking and typing I am forced to do for work.

I don't mind doing that as I'm very interested in NMC but the average internet user would still have to be pushed into doing some easier and less technical such as even visiting a proxy or adding a browser extension.  This idea - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66393.0 - looks interesting maybe you should white-list the OP so he can post on the main boards?

@Energizer: We do test all the units for a minimum of 12 hours prior to shipping. This is our endurance test
that is done in a harsh environment to make sure the unit is stable and will not encounter any problem in its
lifetime.

Regards,

It would be great if you can find some time for answering our emails the same way you find time to respond here!

Its amazing how a single chinese engineer "ngzhang" manage to answer emails/design Icarus boards/develop software/test boards, and meet all his customers requirements in time "VIVA CHINA"!

thats a very good point - you guys should hire a temp or a grad student or someone to handle customer service. a little bit of good customer service goes a long way. IMO it looks like they are just understaffed. I placed my order almost a week ago and still have not been given instructions to pay for my order.

Should have paid with PayPal the money from my order last Friday has left my bank account so hopefully my order is under way  Grin
