2581  Economy / Speculation / Re: How would you protect your potential profits? on: February 11, 2021, 03:27:36 PM
There are a bunch of things you can do.

The first would've setting a stop loss or trailing stop loss. If you don't think the price will go below $32k you could set it as a stop loss or set an alert to transfer your coins at a slightly higher price.  Of course, you're still taking on some sort of loss but it may be a loss you're happier to incur.

The other options that are similar:
Start selling at certain predetermined limits. If you're confident the price will go to $90k, sell some then (just an example price target).  Then sell some at your next target and continue.

As an improvement on the last idea, sell half at a certain price and 2x leverage the rest (it's riskier but if you have a stop set fairly high - unlikely to be triggered - then it might work). But also note that selling anything will raise your liquidation price.
2582  Economy / Economics / Re: Are institutions hedging? on: February 11, 2021, 05:23:53 AM
I'd say it's more there just buying it because they believe it's value will go up.

The economies of most countries are fairly atticicially controlled by some nominated entities (central banks) so I'm not sure too much economic fallout can arise - especially stuff that could damage the stock market or pension schemes.
2583  Economy / Economics / Re: JP Morgan says large firms will not follow Tesla's bitcoin move on: February 10, 2021, 11:17:38 PM
Maybe they don't want it to? Maybe they thought they'd be able to buy more btc before the price goes up. Perhaps they have a loaded short on btc waiting to be fulfilled from the current price rise...

Analysts of cryptocurrency, tech stocks and further fields aren't going to be accurate either. There also might be a factoring in of the 80% drop that may come again some time potentially THIS year. If you got paid 0.01BTC for a month's work ($3000 eg) and then the value dropped over the weekend to $60k/coin leaving you with $600 you might be hugely out of pocket...

2584  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anybody remembers tesla was selling model S with BTC at 2014 on: February 10, 2021, 09:36:41 PM
Now I'm more curious as to the reason they removed it... Maybe it was the 2013 crash, maybe they're hoping to cash out of this one before a crash (even if they start accepting it at a bad time - or maybe they're timing the crash to start accumulating..
2585  Other / Meta / Re: Some german guys keeps sending merits to each other for sig campaigns on: February 10, 2021, 08:09:55 PM
You are accusing bullrun2020 to abuse the merit system? I really doubt it. Although I don't know German language, I know him to be a good poster in global boards. There’s no proof of your accusation as well.
Regarding the tag, I guess it’s not a good practice kf the system. But since feedback isn’t moderated, you have no way but to mutually solve the issue.

Yeah d5000, 1miau and bob123 seem like different people enough imo.

I think this has been brought up before as the German board isn't so active so a lot of recent posts and recent topics get pushed to the top so threads don't get swamped very much.
2586  Economy / Goods / Re: Purchasing a London apartment for BTC on: February 09, 2021, 11:36:05 PM
This sounds quite niche, why can't you use cash or fiat?

You might also want to list the value of the property. I've seen listings for quite a few things go up on this forum (Real Estate/yacht listings) but I'm not sure how well they do.
2587  Economy / Economics / Re: Earning interest on your crypto on: February 09, 2021, 09:44:07 PM
This is all going to depend on the crypto you're trying to lend/what you're holding.

There are sites like defipulse aimed at offering a comparison between decentralised options and exchanges are also a good route to go down.

I think btc can normally make 1-2% a year so if you're making more than that where you suggested then as long as they're legit they'll be a good choice. I think most of this stuff is quite risky though still so I'd try not to risk it all if I were you.
2588  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: MyCelium Wallet Unable To Synchronize on: February 09, 2021, 08:07:37 PM
I had this about the same time, I switched over to mobile data and it seemed to synchronise. You could try that (it won't take much data to sync afaik but I'm still not sure why that worked for me)...
2589  Economy / Economics / Re: Cefi vs defi future of finances there is a question on: February 09, 2021, 08:05:29 PM
You're not going to phase out banking and central banks imo they're still going to be the best at roviding an inflationary currency with enough taxes to keep an economy stable.

But yes some aspects of where a bank and where retail will lend to will likely be some form of defi like we have now and the exchange issue with gamestop and a few other things look to have raised to light how much international trade previously depended on a few companies (quite a few uk brokerages have - in the past two weeks - already started facilitating more trades via over-the-counter platforms which banks and individuals could also take part in).

Loans are mainly just an asset similar to a bond. A bank and other institutions could still sell those loans or package them and sell them on and they'll probably just be able to do that with defi still as they could with cefi.
2590  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BYBIT TRADE on: February 09, 2021, 02:46:49 PM
Contracts with bybit are perpetual. You could leave one open for as long as you want but the interest rate for keeping the position open might eat it all eventually.

Afaik the 5bar indicator is the liquidation priority you have. Hence, if you're in profit, your priority in the queue will be lower and thus you'll liquidate at a lower price. Likewise, if the bar is full the opposite is true...
2591  Other / Meta / Re: Inserting images and banners in forum on: February 09, 2021, 01:50:05 PM
It requires you to become a more advanced member on the forum (I think Jr) so you need to wait for your rank to increase. This can be done by gaining "activity points" by posting but they're limited to 14 per 2 week period and it'll take 3 of those periods to go from 0 to the required 30 activity.

More info on ranking up can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.msg1861412#msg1861412
2592  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there a platform where you can follow a live crypto daytrader on: February 08, 2021, 04:34:04 PM
There's a cov token for it. I'd err on it with caution though.

Primexbt and uniswap I think are both compatible with it though and allow you to copy others' trades.

I had a go a while ago but it's very new and theres a lot of people trying to do it (and a lot getting liquidated).
2593  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How much would you say one could realistically make a month trading? on: February 08, 2021, 04:07:06 PM
If you're fairly average or risk averse. I'd use an example of doing 2 trades and make 2% on both a week. Reinvesting profits would make you ~$1700 on your $10k over the month.

It might be useful to paper trade for a few trades and also determine how risky they are before entering. Youd likely want a stop loss so that your loss is no more than double the potential profit you'd make.
2594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does 1MH/s more actually matter? on: February 07, 2021, 09:29:32 PM
Mining bitcoin with a gpu seems a bad idea. Try and find the best coin to mine with it (you can check every so often to see if there's anything better than what you're currently mining at the time).

I'd suggest moving across to eth or xmr and seeing how they perform.
2595  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I'm looking for a New Trading Site on: February 07, 2021, 08:20:53 PM
I haven't needed to do kyc with binance and have deposited 0.5+ btc in the past.

I'm using it from the UK so you could vpn through to there or somewhere like Scandinavia or the Netherlands who may be more relaxed still (I'm assuming).
2596  Other / Meta / Re: Why not create a white list on the forum for receiving PM? on: February 07, 2021, 03:09:08 PM
That might seem quite restrictive though? And would you put them in a separate mailbox or just delete them altogether?

If anything constitutes as harrasment you could probably just report their pm to the admin and have it dealg with that way. (I don't think DMs are a good place to have a discussion/argument most people open threads for that stuff).
2597  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: I need help understanding what trans people feel.... on: February 05, 2021, 04:31:26 PM
https://youtu.be/ysbX6JUlaEc.  ( Disclosure on Netflix —preview)

That video looks quite good, I'll have to take a look at that show on Netflix if it's out.

I updated my OP as I'm not as stupid as I was back then in my questioning now and know a lot more about it (through research and social interactions). It seems to have been a well covered topic over the last year (or I've just been sniffing for it).

And I can imagine many transphobes were in the Whitehouse a few weeks back .
2598  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with stuck transaction [Newb mistake] on: February 05, 2021, 03:30:04 AM
It'll cost you nothing to try and might be the cheapest option.  Your funds aren't at risk.

Once done and it works
Do you control any of the receiving addresses (eg a change address) ? As you could spend the funds sent to that address at a higher rate but if electrum has already forgotten about the transaction it might be harder it set up (unless electrum says "+x btc unconfirmed".
2599  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help a Newbie - Am I Understanding This Correctly? on: February 05, 2021, 12:42:27 AM
I'm not sure on exchanges you can use in the US, my goto recommendation is binance but I don't think US customers can use them.

Electrum is probably one of the best wallets out there (especially for beginners) but it is only a bitcoin wallet so you'll have to find other wallets for dot/other cryptocurrencies (but you should be able to see what wallets they recommend to you anyway) - just try to find something we'll used and preferably open source.

2600  Economy / Economics / Re: The narrative behind gamestop and wallstreetbets (a parody) on: February 04, 2021, 10:57:14 PM
Is there any proof that money was flowing out of stocks and into Bitcoin? And if the US government was actually afraid of this scenario, there's a simple solution - ban Bitcoin exchanges. No need to come up with conspiracies.

A lot of international pressure was added on gamestop? What are you going to do there, tell Canadians, Asians and Europeans they can't buy US stocks without banning bitcoin (that'll push up the dax, ftse 100, Japanese and Chinese indexes...

This makes sense. But the thing is, wallstreetbets mainly targeted those bankers and brokers that shortsold on GME, they didn't really pay attention to those who would benefit from this because the winner at the end of the day will be GameStop and them buyers and hodlers. And the losers will be the brokers and investors who short sold on GME in hopes of getting more profits.

Yes and this is how the market works?

If a company does badly shorter win and longers lose.. If a company does well longers win and shorters lose.

What if the initial pumper was just nostalgic over gamestop? Afaik the US government under trump didn't do much to ensure people had money, wasn't there only 2 stimulus checks? (compared to most European countries paying 70%+ wages).

I would be curious to know how much $$ it took to pump gamestop stock.
A bunch of investors buying a bunch of stock--on margin--in a company that doesn't have an enormous amount of stock floating would inflate the price quite nicely, and I don't doubt that's what happened.  I seriously doubt the government would have any interest in pumping Gamestop stock, nor do I think Gates and Buffett feel threatened by cryptocurrency.

This stuff is really interesting, though.  It'd be nice if those Reddit peeps would pump something I owned.  Too bad I'm not holding any doge right now. Cry
I understand that doge may have its use in some cases, I like it for two reasons as well, one is the fact that they got together and did community stuff YEARS before wallstreetbets did, they helped the jamaican bobsled team and sponsored them, they had an ad spot on a nascar race car, and some other stuff I can't remember now but they are definitely a fun community to be in and do good stuff, secondly of course gambling, it makes things easier and cheaper there as well.

Long story short they are good for some things, but as you may have realize I didn't list investing in there, you may not like investing into something that is consisting of good people, just because doge people are nice and you can gamble with doge doesn't mean that I would want to invest into it, I rather invest my money into bitcoin even if bitcoin is not as cheap as doge.

If they're still using the same algo as litecoin then a 51% may be likely too cut if it gets pumped too fast too.

There are many instances where its pumped from <30 to >100 sats too in the past and it might find a new base or just fold back to where it was before.

Its hard to tackle this topic without straying into the realm of conspiracy theories and parodies.

I wonder if its fair to summarize it as the following.

In 100+ years of tall buildings being constructed with steel frames. How many topped as a result of fires?

In 100+ years of market trading. How many times were non one percenters able to coordinate and organize to topple markets?

When one discovers seeming outliers in places they were not known to previously exist. What does it mean.

(What do people think about this?)   Huh

Similarly, is this how wars can be expected to be fought in the future? Either literally people moving or people launching attacks online on certain things.

Want to destroy a bank? Just get 4% of depositors to withdraw at once (they post their cash reserves online so you just need $1 higher than that).

Destroy a company? Buy it and make it unprofitable. Destroy a country? Counterfeit its money and sell it to them... (I think these tactics have already been tried by governments but not yet by retail).
