261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / My A2 Mega Terminator AX1200i Power Supply Transplant on: August 06, 2015, 12:23:01 AM
(sorry for the size of the pictures)

Previous projects:
My Custom Case Build
My Custom Gridseed Case Build

Proud owner of a new A2 Mega Terminator (110 Mh/s). As with all my stuff I bought it just for fun and am not interested in ROI. I have an older A2 Terminator that runs well other than it occasionally turns off on its own. I suspect the power supply.

My new A2 Mega Terminator started right up and would mine as advertised for about 10 minutes and then turn off. The Pi controller would still be running but all the blades would shut down. After speaking to Innosilicon support we discovered that the power supply was the culprit. It would run great with 5 out of the 6 blades attached but with the 6th one it would turn off after about 10 minutes. Most likely due to it drawing more power than it could consistently provide.

This was my first direct experience with Innosilicon and I do have to say they were pleasant and professional to deal with. It can be difficult due to the time and language barrier but they did their best to ensure I was a satisfied customer.

After we determined it was the power supply they sourced a new vendor/model and shipped me a replacement. This took about a week to accomplish and during the wait I decided to use one of the AX1200i power supplies from my old GPU rig since I had just recently (finally) shut it down for good. Is this overkill? Most definitely. I would not go out and purchase one for use in an A2 Mega Terminator but since it was literally laying around with no plans for use and I wanted to start mining I decided to go for it.

If you are familiar with the AX1200i you know it is a rather long power supply but it fit! (barely)

For reference here is a picture of what it looked like with the stock power supply. Note that this power supply has exactly six Eight-Pin +12 V CPU Power Connectors with cable lengths perfectly spaced for the location of the blades. In order to use them with the blades which have standard 6 pin PCIe connectors they had to reverse the direction and FORCE them in to fit!  Lips sealed (the replacement power supply I eventually received from Innosilicon had the appropriate PCIe connectors)

First thing I had to do was carefully bend the housing to accommodate the different power plug location. I suppose I could have cut it off but it was easy enough just to bend it with pliers.

I tried to capture exactly how close the AX1200i fit inside the case. There is about 2-3mm of space. Barely enough to plug in the PCIe cables but it fit!

All done...not sure it looks much better but in the next post I will document how efficient it runs.

To be continued....
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Under-overclock image for A2 Innosilicon by Emdje - Extranonce support - V4.0 on: August 05, 2015, 09:19:36 PM
hey emdje I have a few new A2 terminators and am pulling my hair out.  The Pi boots up fine.  Lights on the boards blink then burn solid.  I go to my browser and pull them up.  They are hashing at a very low speed. I stop CGminer, and put in my settings.  I start CGminer.  The units do not respond, and they will not start.  WTH???  I bought them brand new from zoomhash.

- Also I've been at this for 2 days now.... I've tried minereu and it works well on 3 machines.  The other boxes... well I've tried stock, tweaked, and everything else. All with no luck.  Any thoughts? Thanks.

If they are brand new they are most likely A2 Mega Terminiators. Emdjes image does not work with them. I have an old A2 Terminator that works great and a new A2 Mega Terminator that it does not work with....saw the same thing you are seeing trying to use it.

Wondering....I imagine you have to keep the wallet open (and unlocked?) for it to stake or does it work like Bottlecaps where you can open the wallet every few months and you quickly get stakes?

Perhaps even with Bottlecaps it would be better to keep the wallet open but it stakes so quickly and nicely just opening it up every once in a while.

975,000 - 940,000 = 35,000

35,000 * 40 = 1,400,000 seconds or 23,333.33333333333 minutes or 388.8888888888889 hours or 16.2037037037037 days.

btw, how do we know & how can we find out who mined a particular block in p2p besides irc announcing it.

I believe it is in the block details somewhere. Look at the wallet transaction detail. I'm sure I saw it at one time somewhere when a friend was creating an online wallet that supported p2pool....sorry I can't be more specific. It's been over a year.

I am wondering if that is a result of setting the fee to a negative amount? Someone should try Smiley

PotCoin crowd funded node is up!

https://bitnodes.net/node/194-135-85-149/

Cheers!

Neat site! It still appears to still be syncing though. It is on block 728912. Maybe the site should somehow show that it is still in the process of syncing? A status of sorts...other than that I like it!

Wow, thank you! I just try to help out. Wish I could do more.

Yup, POT is going through some issues with their fork. They neglected to disconnect older client by incrementing the Protocol number and it is causing a warning.

POSv is new to me so like you said..best to let others test the waters.

Anyone know how to kick off a peer connection from the daemon?

I have one connection (162.243.5.214) that is still on 0.8.6.4.

Edit: potcoind addnode 162.243.5.214 remove? Gives me an error Sad

A word to every coin dev....

PLEASE reject previous daemon/wallet versions when going into a hardfork. Everyone will update. Smiley

They will have to anyway when it transitions to POSv, that will be the only chain to work with.

He is saying to code in dropping connections at the daemon/wallet to previous versions. It is a smart suggestion. My deamons/wallets still have some connections to older versions and the potential for a fork is there because of it.

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/pot/ is stuck on block 922469  Embarrassed

This is an example... That block explorer was caught up and on the right chain but have fallen off again. They are currently stuck at block 927529 and displaying a warning message. The correct chain is over 928401 Cry

It's all synced up.

Edit: Wait, think I figured out why it's not allowing incoming connections! Won't have access to a computer for a few hours though.  Sad

Edit2: Fixed the incoming connections problem. It was a simple mistake with the IP address on the firewall  Embarrassed

The cgminer works, but i don't have all the status and setup screens, and also there is no keyboard input possible.
This behaviour is most likely caused when you compile the binary without ncurses support.
So i ask you to compile the cgminer with ncurses support, is this possible...?
You just need the package "libncurses5-dev" installed on your build system, that should do the trick.
What do you mean with no status and setup screens and no keyboard input? Do you mean the webinterface or when you login?
Reason I ask is because I have had no issues with any of the builds I made, I test them before I release them.
when using your versions I tried to start cgminer manually but I didnt had that top part of cgminer with stats, any idea why

I am having the same problem of not getting the Text User Interface when running cgminer manually. It just scrolls everything from bottom to top without being able to issue any keyboard commands. Have seen this before when compiling cgminer without libncurses5-dev (required for the text user interface).

I'm using the complete image of version 4.0 from here: https://mega.co.nz/#!zME2Va7b!lT3Gu6F0CL3i5ll0yl3SS2pn78NVpgZcJVITEnAyW9E

Also, it would be nice to have --failover-only and --no-submit-stale as options from the web UI...although it is easy enough to modify index.php Smiley
P2Pools work better with --failover-only and submitting stale.

P.S. Thank you emdje for all you have done. I just got a couple A2 Terminators (one older one that works with your image and a newer A2 Mega) and this thread has been helpful.

The problem I encountered with starting trough putty is that once you disconnect, cgminer stops.

Use screen:

Code:
Use screen:
sudo apt-get install screen

screen -S ScreenName

"ScreenName" can be anything, it's just a name that you can use later to get back to it. Notice the use of a capital "S". This will give you a new shell. Start cgminer there.
Ctrl-A, then Ctrl-D will exit the new shell and will keep cgminer running.

You can now disconnect SSH etc.
To get back to your cgminer:
screen -r ScreenName

To verify that it's indeed running in the background use this:
ps auxwww | grep cgminer

Screen commands:
Ctrl + A + C:  Create a new SCREEN session.
Ctrl + A + N:  Switch to the Next screen session.
Ctrl + A + P:  Switch to the Previous screen session.
Ctrl + A + D:  Detaches a screen session (without killing the processes in it - they continue).

If everything checks out with these, they will decimate A2 sales

They are almost done with the A4 (and A3 for SHA). I believe it will have 1/4 the power requirements of the A2.
