congrats to all that have made it this long. especially to those that can continue post halving. im really going to have to rethink this.. Been a great learning exp anyway:)
Yup for sure, congrats to those who keep it going.  My gear has been shut off for a couple months due to summer heat, hopefully when it cools down later this year it will still be worth my time, effort, and $ to have a miner or two in the mix.  Til then I'll just keep having fun with the R1 and gekko stick german fun runs.

For me summer means a lot more of CFM's from fan's.  During winter I am able to get away with much less, which is nice lower overhead. It has been pretty mild really for the most part where I am in the Midwest.  I do expect having to change what miners are profitable for me, after it I'm guessing all need to be S9 to make sense but will run numbers after.

I also dabble in Ether now for fun.   Not sure if it will pay off as big as I would like but the chance to play with GPU's again was to hard to pass up.  I expect them to be running for quiet a while.

But price is really not doing bad 655 on coinbase.  Will be an interesting week though to watch price.
262  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me with Mining, I have $0 cost and how can I get started on: July 08, 2016, 06:40:58 AM
Hi All,

I am complete newbie in coin mining, Currently there is $0 cost for CPU and internet at my side. Can you suggest me how can I start mining ?

What is average returns for BTC mining through CPU? Is there any webpage miner or should I go with desktop client?

Thanks in Advance

Day's of CPU mining are long gone, you will not make any substantial amount at all with CPU even a great one.   If your mining Bitcoin you will need an asic, it is a must at this point.   With free electricity you have a good start.

Or GPU there is Ether but it takes a pretty good card to mine it.   I have some rigs up and running as we speak, but no standard computer all were made for mining purposes.  And if your trying to get a RX 480 (the new card) they are sold out most of the time.  But again no power so good start.

You honestly need a little starting capital to get in this game.
263  Other / Meta / Re: Help with account access Please on: July 07, 2016, 10:31:54 PM
Thanks for the replies and help.
I don't think I did anything post wise that would have caused this. Even though it takes my password I get the banned page after log in.
I already submitted and waited months so I don't think I am going to get an answer.
I have been away for a while I honestly don't remember if my account contains the necessary info to send the "signed" way.
Is it just saying to sign a message with any address that I used previously? I should be able to do that from a group buy if I need to.

The rest of this meta part I don't follow. I guess I will either stay with this account or if this account gets banned because I created it to ask why another account got banned then I suppose I will just be downgraded to lurker.
Not sure what else I can do!

What does banned page say?   As up above they are talking about a secret question locking an account, which that account did have today.   But your's goes back month's it sounds like from this post.

UserID: dbasql - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=79259 last post was March 04, 2015.   So if this goes back to then it could be a ban.  The public security log does not go back that far.

So if you post message it tells after log in we chances are can tell if ban, or locked due to using secert question.   If not only a mod/admin will be able to say it.
264  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 won't connect or reset. on: July 07, 2016, 10:13:11 PM
Hello, gonna try to keep this simple as far as where i started and where i'm at now. Below are the steps I have done.

----

Antminer S9 Batch 3, not sure if it works.

PSU = EVGA G2 1600W, it works.

Standard CAT5e Cable, it works.

I plug in the 9+1 power cables and the ethernet cable directly from router to miner.

Turn it on, I get an immediate Fault light (red), fans spin full speed and they stay at that RPM.

No LEDs from the hash boards (from all 3)

The ethernet controller ORANGE LED blinks, but the GREEN LED does not stay lit, it does blink every now and then.

I check my router settings to see what connections my router is seeing. It only sees my computer connected, nothing else.

I attempted to "reset" the miner, I hold the reset button for 5 seconds.... 15 seconds.... 30 seconds.... 45 seconds.... and nothing. Nothing happens.

I sent a PM to Phil* for some advice, He informed me to drop all connections from my router and only connect my computer. (In hopes that maybe the miner is being assigned to a duplicate IP that is already connected to my router). I did this, checked router settings and made sure that its only seeing my desktop computer connected.

Turn on the miner, and no new connection shows up, seems to be getting no connection.

----

Is there any other way for me to factory reset this miner or is it possible for the ethernet controller to be fault? OR if for some reason its set under a static IP for me to find it out via software or something.

If it is finding the IP you can try with Bitmain's IPReporter.  I really like just going into router and finding it that way myself as if you know your router it is not bad, but some have good results with Bitmains IPReporter.    Check out page 9 on official instruction's - https://www.bitmaintech.com/files/download/AntMiner%20S9%20Installation%20Guide.pdf

I would focus on trying to find IP first before going after reset.  But if you have to reset below is how they say to (I have not personally reset a S9 so all direct from manual in quotes as Bitmains words I take no credit)

"To restore your initial settings
1. Turn on the miner and let it run for 5 minutes.
2. On the controller front panel, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds.

Resetting your miner will reboot it and restore its default settings. The red LED will automatically
flash once every 15 seconds if the reset is operated successfully."

But to recap I would try again on finding IP.  Focus on that first as you should not have to do a reset when you receive it new (assuming not 2nd hand).
265  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: July 07, 2016, 09:49:53 PM
My U3 with Bfgminer 5.4.2 have once a day a problem, the bfgminer runs but the U3 have no share (Gh/s) on the pool? (The Bitfury sticks are OK) Huh Huh

After a restart from the Pi the U3 is OK???

My settings:

Quote
"set-device" : [
   "antminer:chip=BM1382",
   "antminer:voltage=x760",
   "antminer:clock=225"
]

regards

Is it having trouble with going into zombie?   That is what it sounds like where a U3 stops working and a restart fixes it.   This is why CrazyGuy's R1 custom firmware is so popular as it detects zombies and fixes it.

But yes they do stop randomly for a lot op people.  This is why automation on fixing it is so nice to have.
266  Other / Archival / Re: Diff thread July 4 July 18th?picks are yet to open! prize = $50 usd + ½ ing on: July 07, 2016, 06:53:52 PM
Most people who I contacted about buying S7 gear from said they are waiting and seeing if the difficulty will drop, if it doesn't they will sell their S7 to me for cheap. If it drops or price goes up another 30%, they will keep mining with it.

Because right now with most hosting datacentres most people will end up breaking even with their power costs and no point in running them.

Not the greatest day to watch from high 670's to low 620's - http://www.coindesk.com/price/ .  So we lost a little more then 50 dollars per BTC value.  I'm wondering with halving so close some are selling hedging bet's.   They might have waited to right before having and sold some.

I personally am more interested in long term holding.  So I really want to see price after halving, I think we will see some sell but hope we go up again overtime.
267  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: July 07, 2016, 05:44:42 PM
After two weeks of waiting, I didn't got the whole payment for the first missed payment.

Now waiting for the 2nd payment (July 4) and the "bonus".

Really would appropriate this being looked at.  Wish we could get this back in order were missing 7-4 payment, bonus mentioned by  Coins_Bank.   And at this point it's been around 2.5 weeks since bot reset.

So we really need
1) Catch-up payment for 7-4 to become current + Bonus mentioned by Coins_Bank
2) Bot to become reset as it is 2.5 weeks or so old

Still best campaign around, I have been in it over a year.  Marco has always came though in the end, just really want to get back on track.
268  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Recommended Mining Tools For Beginners on: July 07, 2016, 05:27:01 PM
As a beginner to bitcoin mining, I've come to realize the impracticality of mining on my PC alone and have expressed desires to invest in hardware to enhance the process. However, I'm incapable of affording anything relatively expensive and would like a more compact and proficient setup. I was thinking about working with USB Miners, but haven't been able to find any that I could purchase that would be up to date. I'd appreciate any help or recommendations for efficient mining hardware or shopping sites for future hardware.

The most recent usb miners are the compacs.  They are good lotto miners, but not really going to turn a ROI.  It is not the fault of the compacs though, it is just with USB miners there is a lot of cost's for very few chips/one chip depending on stick miner.    So it is much much cheaper as far as price per hash to get a full size miner.  There then is possible noise/heat that 1 usb stick will not have but it is much better cost for your hashing power.

To help recommend what is your electrical price (including taxes/fees), and what is your starting budget? Those two things are very important in knowing is there is a viable solution for you to mine.
269  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S4 blown power supply on: July 06, 2016, 10:22:20 PM
Bitmain refused to replace a blown power supply in my S4 claiming I "overvolted" it and therefore voided the warranty. From my understanding there is a manufacturing defect in the S4 power supplies and Bitmain is supposed to replace them, however they refuse to replace mine. Before I threw the power supply in the junk I decided to take some pictures and salvage the PCI-e leads off it and take some pictures.

(removed pics as huge)

It's been  a LONG time since a batch of S4's I beleive, there were S4+'s after them.  So I would guess they are past warranty date a good amount.  I know that does not make you feel better but even if they did not say some reason of warrranty being violated I doubt it was purchased  in last 90 day's from them.

What you need to decide now is if it makes sense to buy a new PSU.  Bitmain does sell them but S4's again are dated... so might be better off just upgrading to a newer miner at this point.   I don't see any pictures of the machine itself was it just the PSU damaged?  If so parting out and buying a newer generation might be best in my eyes.
270  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: i need to buy S9 but i have a problem with PSU on: July 06, 2016, 10:15:31 PM
You may be stuck buying a 1600w PC PSU which will take 120-240v.
I can't say how well they will take constant voltage changes, but if it's within the range they will certainly work.
Look up an eVGA 1600w G2, they're around $360 USD.

my method of underclocking to freq 462 and buying the evga 1300 g2 is better

he saves 160 usd maybe more.

he runs at 9.9 th vs 12.0 th

so he loses 2 th.

gear is much quieter much cooler

if it is hot desert he is well off.

2 th is going to earn 160 usd in about 7 months.   So he would be ahead of the game for the next 7 months. with the evga 1300 g2 and a downclock.

plus much much much much less noise.

and less heat

This.  Maximum hashrate is not optimal solution.

I gave up  I led him to the water and he won't drink it.

I did the same trying to explain quality of PSU's and he kept picking new one's.  I don't get the urge to use 3 or even 2 when 1 is best. The scariest one was the 3 500's he had picked.

I still worry about op's electricity "i have free electricity but its very bad which moving all the time between 185V to 220V ( using voltage stabilizer! ) without stabilizer it moving between 145V to 180V".  Sounds like he's starting out with pretty bad electrical to begin with.
271  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: i need to buy S9 but i have a problem with PSU on: July 06, 2016, 12:44:35 AM
The RM1000 is used by many miner's it has been tested.   The Cool Master V1000 may be a fine PSU but honestly don't think it's of the same quality. But neither of these are really what people are using for S7/S9's. So it is kinda a moot point, but it certainty is better then the 3 x 500's you were looking at.

No offense is meant but you have gotten SO many good options mentioned on what to pick.  Your local market might not have them, but ordering online and getting them is worth it.   I just am going to wish you luck. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
272  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards:SF100, the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner is accepting pre-order now on: July 06, 2016, 12:30:19 AM
Own a miner you can't control, who's freakin great idea was this??

Did you not do RESEARCH on Bitcoin mining BEFORE you purchased Huh

ALL of us regulars here would have told you ,"Very stupid not to have COMPLETE control of a miner that you own"  Roll Eyes

I hope you can get it to work, but PLEASE ask before jumping, this is why this forum is here  Wink

What happened was we all thought this was going to be a public miner.  They did two batches if I remember right (at least 2 public ones).  And acted like they were going to sell to general public.  Instead last minute they went to either internal mining, or a big buyer I don't think we will ever know.

A few re-sellers managed to get like 5 or so each.  Was a pretty limited amount of re-sellers that managed to get them.   So guessing they bought off of one of these, or secondary market (ebay, etc) from someone who bought from one of these re-sellers.

The part I find interesting is if they stopped the control of these.... either they managed a internal solution for the big buyer or internal.  Or they are shutting down thinking the A4 once out will take over market.  So really wish we knew more of story.  But the person needing help I doubt gets it as there are not a ton of these out there so most of us have never tinkered with one ( I personally have not).
273  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: i need to buy S9 but i have a problem with PSU on: July 05, 2016, 10:31:26 PM
after reading many other experiences
i can power 2 Antminer with 3 PSU 1000W connected by (Add2PSU)
https://www.amazon.com/Add2PSU-Multiple-Power-Supply-Adapter/dp/B009P98Q8U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467744817&sr=8-1&keywords=add2psu

many users here using CORSAIR RM1000
its same quality as cool master v1000
search in google (rm1000 vs v1000)

the rm1000 is a lot better quality  then the 500 watt unit you mentioned.

but getting 3 to run  2 s-9's and using the amazon part is not what I would do.

good luck.

i talk about Cooler master V1000
its more efficiency

I do not think your right on RM1000 and your cooler master being of same quality.  I have owned a few of the RM1000's they are good quality but I also use them for video cards/smaller miners not a S7/S9.

Your really going the wrong route with these budget PSU's on a brand new S9.   You have a LOT of good advice and reason's why people choose quality PSU's.   In the end we cannot stop you from buying cheap PSU's but if it goes wrong you really are going to wish you went for a quality PSU.

You might read warranty on S9 just the voltage surges would void warranty.  I'm not sure why you want to add poor power supply on it, realize your buying a PSU that can last multiple miners.   Or be sold after... all these ideas of cheap PSU's, adapters of unknown quality, ontop of your voltage scare me personally.
274  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining no way for now ... on: July 05, 2016, 08:57:15 PM
Ok, first thank to your time notlist3d for answer me.
Cloud mining appears is the better idead for now, i read many times of vloud mining and always says about hashnest..

When i said: not rich.. i want to say i did not have millions of dollars to invest on this.. ofcourse i have money to relocate, if not, i never think about this.. my question here is if btc still proffi with increase diffs every time or maybe think to another cryptocurrency, maybe altcoin... just talking about options or alternatives... alternstives to stock exhange with great opportunity to increase capital more fast than ...

Thats it...

I read about altcoin A4..
But this is in another forum..

Thanks anyway

We have been reading about A4 chips for quiet a while.  I hope they come out as it would be fun to play with one.  But I would not put all eggs in that basket till sales start.

I don't know how much you have put aside but it will not be cheap.   You will need money to relocate, buy miners, buy location (renting get's tricky with modification might find rental... but hard unless long term), need a place with lot's of electricity depends on how many miners, need to pay for electrical wiring, need to pay for cooling systems (fans, evaporation all depends).  Also which country are you looking at?

To do all the above is going to be very costly depending on size your thinking.   Your question on profit as increased difficulty we cant give a blanket anwser, need to know electricity cost.    Doing all of this will no easier on altcoin A4's you deal with difficulty and you can lose, heck look at some that lost money on A2's the previous gen it dropped in price at a scary rate on units.

I think you will find hosting much easier then the international relocation, unless you just have a lot of money your putting into it.
275  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: July 05, 2016, 08:44:07 PM
I also got a payment but I don't know for sure which week is that for. I think that's for 3 weeks ago.

Good to see them coming. Thank you CoinsBank & Marco

There were two weeks that had not been paid:
1) 6/27 (it's the week bot has not been reset from)
2) 7/4 (I believe).

This payment should be for that 6/27 payment I believe.  So were moving twords good again new need bot to reset and that 2nd week paid and were all set again.
276  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: July 05, 2016, 07:33:41 PM
i have sent user Coins_Bank a personal message and asked for an update maybe he knows what is going on.

lets wait and see if we get any reply from him.

Thank you for the message Herbert2020! Marco will process payments as soon as possible & every user will have a bonus for the wait.

Thanks for getting payment started.   I got the payment for 2 weeks ago.   Have not received the past week or bonus yet.     Bot still need's to be reset so we can get back to current.

We have always gotten paid in the end.   So even the bumps seem to be fixed with time, still best sig campaign and am happy to be a part of it for over a year at this point.  Thanks Coins_Bank and Marco.
277  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: July 05, 2016, 07:20:29 PM
Thanks for sharing your note's sloopy.  It is always welcomed to share information on miners and what works best for you.  One of the best things about these threads, is when we get lot's of users and lot's of good information.

I will go though it in your order and just my thoughts on a few of them.

  • Voltage- I personally did not under/over volt.  It can be done safely but the risk outweighed the reward for me.   Yes disappointing speeds sometimes (depends on PSU) but compare that to a A6 with only 1 hashing board it is a ton better.  And you overvolt to much you might end up with 1/2 an A6 so it for sure is at your own risk.
  • RPI Image - Yes there are newer and smaller images since thread has started.  I have left the original BlockC kit image up.  It is large, and dated but it works great still.  I did no modification to the image it is straight from original kit
  • Fan Speed - I personally just left on auto it can be changed if needed to be quieter, but I saw it as already not to loud of a miner so never did mess with this.
  • 2 Versions of A6- I can only speak for the 1st models as mine were all bought early.   I did not have any later models to compare them to.  Even on the new one though no one ever really got past "smart speed" so it did not have the underclock/overclock like the Avalon 4.1's
  • BlockC- At this point they chances are who you would want to contact for parts like you mention USB.   You might be able to get it from Ehash (Canaan) but are in huge buyout process so not sure on individual sales (have not contacted them for a while they did take down store)
278  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: i need to buy S9 but i have a problem with PSU on: July 05, 2016, 07:01:42 PM
this is my best choice and available in our market ( Cooler Master V1000 / 1000W )
http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/v-series-psu/v1000/

Most likely you will need to order online on a PSU for a S7/S9.  It depends on your market some have great local store's.   But me personally I can order from newegg or amazon and get cheaper then local market and better quality.

You really need to get a quality PSU to go with your S9, I like the recommended APW3 but again with your voltage going up/down under 205V it's not a option. (Your voltage kinda scares me with such large varience, makes me wonder of quality of electricity).   But again look at the EVGA ones mentioned... don't go for these low quality PSU's.

Ever since you mentioned 3 PSU (cooler master Extreme Power Plus 500W) + unknown quality adapters your PSU selecting has really scared me.
279  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: i need to buy S9 but i have a problem with PSU on: July 05, 2016, 04:24:37 PM
they said (Power supply unit is not included. You will need an ATX PSU. There are 3 PCI-e connectors for +12V DC input on each hashing board and all 3 need to be connected to the PSU for the hashboard to operate. Do not connect more than one PSU to the same hashing board!)

i think about using 3 PSU (cooler master Extreme Power Plus 500W)
each one have 1 PCI-6
and i will use pci 4 to 6 adapter to get the other

what is you opinion ?

Buy a quality PSU using 3 not so good ATX psu's... just is not way to go.  You are spending good money on a nice miner, getting a quality PSU is really something you should do with that.

Reading your first post the APW3 is not a option as it going under 205V it is not made to operate.  So what they recommend and I have been using is not a option for you.  Look up again at the nice EVGA's mentioned there is a reason why people are recommending good PSU's.  I personally would go for the 1600 and not underclock but that is just me.   The other is a option aswell.

But PSU's if you treat good you can use for multiple generations of miners, or sell just keep boxes and all your accessories.  I would not touch let those cheap PSU's you mention and adapters (which we don't know quality of as no link) touch a new S9.   Just wrong way to start mining with it.
280  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining no way for now ... on: July 05, 2016, 04:44:50 AM
Hello forum, hello from Brazil.

My name is Eduardo, I started using bitcoin in 2014 (If i remember ...) I bought 14 USB Miners (yellowjacket) from hashrate store ..
But before it purchased, should have study more about, because in Brazil, energy is too expansive .. here is one calculator of energy company in my city: https://www.ceee.com.br/pportal/ceee/Component/Controller.aspx?CC=1248 (I thinking to buy one S7 for 440$) every S7 uses 1300W, so, 1300W here in Brazil my bill for every month is 296$ only for energy of S7, not included internet, house, etc ...
Example:
Today with difficulty of bitcoins if I mining with S7 at 4.73TH/s per month i got: per Month   0.33928539 BTC   $233.11 this dont paid my energy ..

!no way to mining at brazil.

My question here is: I'm read about solar panels (no way at brazil too, very expansive), I'm read about some countries where energy is below 0.08 cents ...
I think, only who lives at these countries got some coins right?
Another question is: Cloud mining is not a good idea right?
And my last question: I thinking to leave from brazil and go to another country ... offcourse looking for start my farm ... (home to start , I'm not rich , start at home , buying some s7 , making btc , btc reselling and buying more s7) ...

Today I investing on the Stock Exchange ... and have some money there .. that money I use to leave from here and go to new contry where is able to mining coins ... I would like suggestions of countries where the energy was accessible to mine

Thanks to all for attention, sorry if my english is not perfect ... and congrats to this forum, best on the web.

And this is why there are hosting companies out there.  You can host your miner in a country where electricity is a fair price.   Sadly with high electricity and VAT and such some places are just not good for mining.   But you can host or cloud mining.

Phil is right go with hashnest if you want cloudmining.  There are a LOT of scams out there they will have amazing ROI calculators that make ROI seem guaranteed.  The truth is it is not guaranteed but hashnest gives you a honest chance of ROI.

On "I thinking to leave from brazil and go to another country ... offcourse looking for start my farm ... (home to start , I'm not rich , start at home , buying some s7 , making btc , btc reselling and buying more s7) ..."  You mention you are not rich, to move to another country and start a farm is going to take a good amount of money I would think in most cases.  Relocating first lot's of cost there then you have to buy a place for your mine, or find a place to rent (which can be hard).

I think honestly a good hosting option will be something in your budget.   Relocating and starting a farm I think you will need to have saved up a good amount to do which "not rich" is hard to interpret as far as how much your budget is and if it is even a remote chance.
