261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 19, 2013, 10:40:45 AM
Hmm the difficulty has been rising pretty sharply for the last 20 hours or so:

http://192.241.170.170/

The site is slow to load sorry, I have not had the time to do ajax data loading. It is updated every 10 mins however.

Any speculations on what might be going on?

I could also still use some advice on how to tune my FX 8150 too Wink I've tried using -O3 and -march=native but am still only getting 0.45 chains Sad

I am not sure what you are on about, your chart indicates that over roughly the last 7 days difficulty has risen by ~0.03 difficulty. This agrees with what I have been seeing on my miners this last week with getmininginfo.

I have mined on a variety of AMD and Intel CPU now and in conclusion the way to 'tune' your CPU is to buy a faster one. The only way you could have 'detuned' your CPU is if you installed a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit CPU or if its reducing its own clocks because it is detecting that its temperatures have reached a thermal protection threshold. I have a laptop that will do this (i5) and it will never go its highest multiplier. It just adjusts itself to be around 80 deg C. The maximum Tcase temperature according to intel is 105 deg C though.

If you zoom in more you can see the blip he is talking about.
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] 7800 STOLEN - Please read / help on: August 19, 2013, 10:34:30 AM
Damm that sucks paul.  That really sucks.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is not to hold your funds in a wallet that exists in many many places.  It would be better practice to be routinely sending those funds to a cold wallet which you have stored in a very safe place.

If it is like you say, a VPS vulnerability, i wonder if we will be seeing more reports about this in the near future, as there were a lot of other people mining on those same VPS's.

Best of luck,
crendore

I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall. deleted all the preference files on my computer and backed up my wallet.  Then installed and ran primecoin-qt again, and it managed to get past the place it was stuck.  I don't really think this was about peers, i think it is possibly a bug in the Qt version i compiled myself for OSX, because as far as i know there is no OSX version.
264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Extremecoin (EXC) - The 2 month block reward only Crypto. on: August 18, 2013, 07:10:09 PM
The price of owning every single coin in a Crypto-Currency at just 20 Bitcoins, it does not matter if it is even for this coin, for any crypto that price is so cheap.............

I stand by my offer.  As an investor, I believe this coin has little value due to it's EXTREME pump 'n dump nature.  The price of crypto is dictated by the traders who buy and sell, not by the dev who created the coin.

This coin will subject to frequent 51% attacks in roughly 2 months.  You obviously have little to no plan for what will happen at the end of the two months.  The silly posts you've been making in your own coin launch thread, clearly display you have absolutely no solid plan for how to deal with the major problem this coin has.

At that point you would be lucky if you could get 0.2BTC for all the Extreme coins out there, let alone 20BTC.

I thought you did not launch this coin to make money from it ? It's just an experiment, right ?
But you think it has real value, more then 2k USD.
You're contradicting yourself. If it's just a fun experiment, then 20 BTC is a huge price. Value comes from utility, not from the simple fact that technically it's a cryptocurrency.
I wouldn't even call this a currency, more a crypto experiment.
Agreed.

lol .. nice try

in the pool
anonymous   39,748Kh     makes   15,704.979EXC /day (likely less as the  predictions are always high)

noone is going to mine 40 mh for
0.032Btc a day
0.00082btc/mh/day

4mil coins ever? you have valued the total coin count at 8 BTC

lol, it was obviously a joke. people take this shit way too seriously.

I would like to open up my mining nodes to accept incomming connections so that they also support the network instead of just mining.  Can someone give me a quick run down on how to do this in linux? What port should i use? should i use iptables? ufw?

Thanks!
What distribution? By default it should be open.
Are you behind a router?

No router, ubuntu.  I guess it's already open then.  Having some trouble syncing on my local primecoin instance though, anyone share an addnode? i'm stuck back 13 hours ago.

WTB 500,000 EXC for 1 BTC.
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: August 17, 2013, 06:48:27 PM
As someone new to Primecoin, can someone explain to me how this was not created to be only beneficial to early miners in the first month, with little profit or incentive for future miners?

In the first two weeks of Primecoin's life, over 100,000 coins were generated a day while difficulty was around 7. This means that it was both relatively easy to find blocks and blocks were highly valuable.

http://cryptometer.org/primecoin_90_day_charts.html

In just one month the number of coins generated per day has fallen to ~10K and at the same time it is much more difficult to find a block due to increased difficulty. Which means that the amount of coins received per work falls exponentially since it is both harder to find a block and blocks yield fewer coins.

With GPU mining about to come out soon, the difficulty will rapidly rise and we can expect only ~1K or less coins to be generated per day. This is an insignificant amount compared to the first two weeks.

What this means is that those that got in early (first 1-2 weeks) will have generated most of the coins for themselves, leaving little incentive or room for profit for those not involved in the launch.

I was pretty interested in participating in Primecoin when I first saw it recently, but after exploring more it seems to be designed to overly reward those that launched it with little benefit for anyone else. To me those are not traits for a successful alt coin.

Two things:
1)  There are far worse coins guilty of maliciously manipulated distribution schemes only to profit the early adopters and creators.  As an example check out Extreme coin, just came out today.  Runs out of coins in 2 months.

2) Mining is not the only way to participate in a crypto currency.  If you like primecoin so much, why not do something with it, build a service, be a pioneer with primecoin.  I'm sure some of the first people to make primecoin services are going to make a heck of a lot more money than the miners anyway.

Current block 501, now that i have the miner running.  Grabbed the source the moment it was posted on github.  500 block premine. not 150.

I'm mining extreme con so hard right now.
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Extremecoin (EXC) - The 2 month block reward only Crypto. on: August 17, 2013, 03:07:43 PM
Yes but you a mining right now, like nobody else because you have not released source yet.  So i would say premine is counted until the block at which the source is released.  Fuck this 150 block bullshit, you are still pre mining at this very moment until we see source.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Extremecoin (EXC) - The 2 month block reward only Crypto. on: August 17, 2013, 03:02:22 PM
Why not test your code on testnet.  That is the lamest excuse for a premine ever.
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] Yacminer GPU miner for Yacoin on: August 17, 2013, 03:00:46 PM
So YAC is just FUD and lies then. fuck this coin.

please find another coin - reading is fundamental to knowledge.  Those who don't are happy to walk out the door oblivious and misinformed.
I have done my reading.  Perhaps you have not.  Or perhaps you have a GPU farm and don't give a shit about the idea of a CPU only coin.

No, you don't. There is info in this thread about the fact that yacminer would also work for Nfactor > 12.
Your knowledge of this coin has some wrong assumptions.

Ok, i won't waste too much more of my time on your foolishness. But take a look at the original thread about YaCoin:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=196196.0

This coin was marketed from the start as a GPU proof, CPU only coin.

The fact that that is now invalidated, makes this coin just another scam coin like the rest.  And yes, i have read this thread, and it fully supports my argument.

What have i misread? The only thing that made Yac decent was the idea that after N = 9, GPU miners would be out of the picture.  But the truth is it has been getting owned from the start and continues to get owned by GPU miners.

I have done my reading.  Perhaps you have not.  Or perhaps you have a GPU farm and don't give a shit about the idea of a CPU only coin.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple Giveaway! on: August 17, 2013, 10:49:02 AM
The problem is that ripple dashboard when you first sign up still tells you to come to this thread and ask for coins.  Ripple needs to get their shit together.
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 16, 2013, 06:49:18 PM
Its funny because this is an interesting niche market.  You really just want high CPU that you can floor, with small HDD space and virtually 0 bandwidth.

Problem is you're paying for all these extras you don't want with these hosts.  You don't really need redundant HDDs, who cares if it crashes if you have it setup right you already have that coin in your local wallet.  Who cares about 1 TB bandwidth you probably only do like 500 MB in a month.  Who cares about HDD space, all you really need is like 5 GB give or take.

I think there is a market here, for a new type of hosting company that just whores out CPUs on low bandwidth.  Shit i could do this out of my garage for much cheaper than amazon AWS.

Thoughts? would people be into this kind of service? i guess it's only valuable as long as primecoin cpu mining is valuable.
