Guys I have a question and if someone knows the answer please let me know.   I’ve had some btc in Coinbase for a long time now, before the btc gold spit.  They have told all of the users that they will give the same amount in btc gold as the amount of the btc that the user had before the split but at the same tim they are saying that they can not support it at the moment because of some code that wasn’t released to public or some other issue, I’m not sure because I don’t know much about it.  Well what I want to know is that if I sell the btc right now will I still get the btc gold when and if they support it in the near future?

Thanks!  Wink

There was no fork, it was cancelled.
I thought gold happened, just had no code right away. The little bit I know about forks with bitcoin cash is that they only look at activity before the fork so selling it would not make a difference with the bitcoin qt app. Obviously coinbase can make whatever rules they want, so be careful if you can't find a document to hold them to it.

The amount of downtime when you change the processor frequency is the same time it takes when you change pools.  It basically just does a reset, definitely doesn't take 3 hours.
You are totally right NeuralChris - it only takes the 5 minutes or so that a reboot takes - yeah.  So I tried several different frequencies and it did not change the final frequency at all.  The automatic frequency average was around 630, so I tried 650 as one of my attempts.  The only thing I saw is that the fan speed maxed itself out (4080/6000).  The frequency average / hash rate remained mostly the same (it bounces around a little anyway of course).  So I can confirm that the hidden minerAdvanced.cgi option does not change the hash rate (and fortunately does not break the system).  It is possible that it might be able to be used to change the fan speed though in case anyone needs that.

And they still push 7.7 TH reliably, at about 1200W at the wall, 240V circuit. I don't necessarily recommend that second setting as Canaan targets the chips to 90C, but it works well for me...
I am curious if you know how to change the targeted temp for the S9's (I think it is the July batch - hardware    16.8.1.3, logic S9_V2.30).  My garage is getting cold here in Wisconsin and does not seem to be cranking up the hash to increase the temp.  The boards are running around 60c now and in the summer it was around 80.  I know there is a cgi-bin/minerAdvanced.cgi hidden menu (currently at 550.00M) but it says it will be taken off line for 3 hours if I change it...  Does anyone have experience with this?

Said my payment was sent to the correct BTC address, but I don't have anything in my wallet and no transfer is pending. It's been over 3 hours. Should it be showing up by now?

The payment screen is a little confusing because new blocks is more of a "will be paid".  It will not actually be sent until the block gets 100 confirmations by the network and then many times it will wait till the next block we find before it is sent.

Maybe it's not that the sacrifices are not worthy, but we need to sacrifice rarer stuff! Like Panda's or White Rhinos, Bangled Tigers etcetera!
You folks are crazy!!!  I love it!  Of course maybe we should be considering something like an Indian rain dance.  Can you imagine if "big brother" who is watching the satellite ground surveillance caught a bunch of bit-heads like us putting on colorful headresses, leaving our work / houses and doing some crazy dance...  If it did not bring a block, it probably would grab some laughs at least - right?

Yeah there's a few requirements in that though that most web designers don't understand Smiley
(and most pools don't understand either)

I'll list them here so if anyone else is interested in doing anything, they'll know the requirements.
1) Requests (as few as possible)
When you access a page on our web site, it returns one blob of text, and the only other request your browser makes is to get the tiny images in the top left (usually just the eye)
Though, the index page (that's not much use except the first time you visit the site) includes the background image.

Most web sites break everything up into multiple files that the browser caches, but the browser has to check each one with multiple requests across the internet.

...

4) 'Flashy'
Well, if it involves anything like flash or other scripting languages to produce animated images, then that's completely out.

The bottom line is that the site contains more than the necessary information, it's fast to load, and it's secure.

... and a bit of information about the current web server - it's Load Average is usually around 0.00 to 0.01 - and it handles about 150-200K requests a day at the moment.
I am assuming that your web server is separate from the miner processing and with the low loads, you may have some room for a little bit of flashy.  I have only been here for a few months and I am very used to the familiar look of the site.  I suspect a fair number of people are reading the home page for info about block changes (as I do).  If it were me, I would have the home page be a static .html page that gets updated once a minute for those using it for processing.  The browser would cache that page in most cases, and if not, it loads directly.  Inside of that, I would add a couple lines of javascript to load a json encoded set of values for the few dynamic fields from your server including how many seconds to delay for the next "ping".  That would be 100 bytes or less, so not a lot of traffic, but yes, it is a hit.  Once loaded, update those fields and set it up to do it again in however many seconds your server determines was safe (and random to distribute the load).  You could even do something like the page count on bottom left of strandvision dot com where the javascript has a starting value, starting time and increment value per 1/10th second and have the shares actively count up as an estimate till the next update.  On the server side, I would cache the dynamic fields once per second (memory or disk) to reduce database queries for all these repeat queries.

Also, with the importance of fees, I would also consider adding a current block value to the home page stats to help miners understand how frequently the transactions change and get a feel for where the mempool is (and user urgency) at the moment.

If you are using a LAMP setup, I would be willing to do this for you for free.  I also think that some enhancements to your API may help grow the site.  I have a pretty flexible API library that can optionally do tracking, limiting, checksum verification with a secret for some calls, security groups of access levels - all can be individually configured per key.  The actual code for the api call is a php script object that can utilize any of your existing code to build a php array.  That array is sent back to the API library which formats to the user's preference of json or xml.  I would be willing to offer that to your for free and if you like, willing to put in the couple hours to get it incorporated into your site.  If you feel comfortable with my work, I would also be willing to help with other API pieces including the payment reporting for each miner.

If you would like my help, I could probably complete these in 2 to 3 weeks (have a full time job to keep up with too).

I am also building up minergain dot com which will eventually do a fair bit of this as well - although delayed by a minute in most cases.  That is free for anyone interested although obviously not as far along as Kano's site.

Hardware question:
It seems antminer s9's dominate the smaller farming market right now for hardware.
...
I own a large brick building here with a decent basement space that stays nice and cool, and could obviously supplement with additional air movers.
I have ONE s9 that I had in my basement for about a week this summer.  Typically around 65 degrees but after about 4 days running the one in about 7500 cubic feet of space (750 sq ft with 10 foot ceilings), temps were over 75 degrees.  It was in my house so with it being so hot and noisy, I moved it out to the garage with a vent outside.  Of course now I am heating the garage (Wisconsin).  Anyway the point is that with a multi-miner farm, you will need to plan on air handling from the start in addition to commercial power needs.

Block  by cobramining.one Grin
Holy smokes!!!  Roughly .00338 BTC per Day per TH!!!  Bigger than any of my mining times since August.  Helps build up for some multi-day ones that are sure to come at this hash rate.

Yeah, a block!!!

I started with Slush too and other than a steady stream of blocks (although much less overall payment), the main reason I can see people staying there versus Kano is that they have many features that are nice including the jquery dashboard (updates on its own), more info in the api, etc.

My full time (paying) job is web site building / management.  Since I wanted my own mining details, I am building up a free site that will offer most of these capabilities for Kano and a whole lot of other pools as well.  So if you are like me and mine different currencies, you'll have a single site to see your "whole" miner performance, costs and profits (as well as getting email and/or text notifications for lots of rules - even when you have received a x% profit for a block or day).

I already have a mostly empty forum setup and the login for that is tied to the main site.  I have background cron jobs happening to gather one minute pool details (consolidated to 5, 15 and 60 minute records based on age).  This same system will also have its own API calls for all your miner details.  I also hope to have the pretty - auto updating charts on there along with general charts on the home page.

I wish I could say that this would be super easy for newbies right away, but that is the goal later on.  Anyway, I am happy to be involved with trying to grow Kano if anyone has ideas.  Thanks to Kano for a great pool and communication!

whoot whoot, that puts us up near .000276  per BTC / Day / TH which matches what we did in August!!  Yeah!

-Mmmm, big juicy one at 14.89+ BTC  Yummy!
Even though 3 days in, this puts our average for the month at .000173BTC / Day  / TH.  That is roughly 10% over last month's average of .000158.  Let keep the recovery going!!!

network effect assumes usage for something other than trading/buying more mining equipment. has there really been enough of an increase in non-mining/trading related transactions to justify the 10x price move?
my feeling is that it is the hype of it all by the news media introducing more common tire kicker / investor newcomers - myself included.  And yes, it seems that a huge part of the difficulty increases is all this "doubling down" of mining equipment - which because of the massive interest has driven hardware costs up.  I have bought a couple things with crypto - but all mining related.  I am also mining ETH, and cards and power supplies are more than double what they were a year ago.  I am tracking the backlog of BTC transactions, and I think that BTC may not be able to support direct mainstream consumer purchases.  I suppose there are other coins or mediums like the debit card that can consolidate small transactions for a substantial percentage fee.

There are two things that I think are worth pointing out, that I'm sure you know:

1 - Prior results have no impact on future results.  Just because there is a huge "bad luck" spell doesn't mean it's "likely" to change soon.
2 - The "long game" is fair luck wise if difficulty stops increasing.

So I knew the first one for sure - the past is the past and like slot machines, makes you think something will hit but really has no bearing on it.  My wife has repeatedly told me that this is a lot closer to gambling than investing.  As for point 2, I guess I like to put blinders on and "wish" for the best.  As even my numbers show, the higher the difficulty goes, the less BTC everyone is making (fortunately similar dollars - tether) plus there is less ability to leverage the up and down of the market.  And the difficulty increases continue to be crazy as these prices go bonkers!  When I got into crypto a few months ago, I was worried about buying BTC at $3,300..  Seems pretty ok today.

even with getting paid out on transactions, when we are getting this far behind even 100% variance, and the price getting as high as it is, this leaves alot of money on the table. If other mines are hitting 100% vs where we are at this month, thats alot of money left on the table.

I ran some approximate BTC per Day per TH numbers.  I will be gathering more accurate details over the coming months since I will be storing 15 minute hash rates for pools we monitor.

For KanoPool.
August was .000276 with 48 blocks (81Ph)
Sept was .000264 with 47 blocks (84Ph)
Oct was .000158 with 35 blocks (102Ph)

My backup (and what I originally started with) is slush.  I have averaged out details for them:
.000225 for August with 241 blocks and a rough average of 350Ph
.000255 for September with 273 blocks and a rough average of 500Ph
.000235 for October with 327 blocks and a rough average of 650Ph

So as you can see, things vary wildly and generally Kano is higher.  Obviously we have hit a bit of a downturn here, but I am confident that it will turn the other way after averaging a few months out.  Of course there are never guarantees, but my feeling is that anyone who has already ridden out the downturn for October would be missing the turnaround boat by leaving.  Kano has had 5 blocks in a day before with similar hash rates, so when the luck turns, we could be exceeding .0005 BTC per day per Th for a fair stretch.  It's all a waiting game and miners need to remember to go for the long game.

Out of curiosity, when our block takes 74 hours, does that mean the transactions we are processing have not had a single confirmation for that many hours?  Or does the bitcoin network system have all pools grab a new set of transactions once a block is found on the network?

As I may have mentioned along the way, I've only been into crypto for about 3 months, so I hope everyone excuses my stupidity - and thanks for the insights Kano.  Yes, I am totally convinced that passwords should never be given out - ever - unless you dont want your mining rewards of course!  That is a great idea to monitor the blockchain directly.  It looks like blockchain.info has an api to get json info.  Is that the best source?  I have always firmly believed in reducing traffic to sites as much as possible (including my 14 year internet based digital signage business) and since I will be offering monitoring for multiple pools, that makes the most sense.

I may be able to estimate the reward based on the hash rates reported and I know which block you are mining and can get the value from blocktrail.com or blockchain.info - is there a better source than others?  Also out of curiosity, I ran our current block 492189 and it is saying that it was mined by BTC.com.  So is BTC.com the better place to get information?  I almost wonder if I should set up a full node since all details would happen real time - but then there is the space and bandwidth issue to serve other nodes.  I will also be monitoring half a dozen other coins initially, so that also adds to the difficulty.  I have never done (or heard of) IRC before the last couple months.  Is that another way to get the information without polling (my base server is a LAMP stack vm on centos)?

Thanks again for your insights Kano - and if you think this is not worthwhile, let me know that too.  I do see that the other products mentioned have a cost and likely require more technical expertise (obviously more info too).  But it may not the best fit for small miners like me just getting started.

Minergain, you *do* know that much of what you describe is already available for folks using monitor sw like Awesome Miner or Cryptoglance right? Difference is, the software is running to monitor what goes on with their farms and that is what people care about - not how the whole pool per se is doing though Awesome for one does make a lot of pool into available based on what Kano's API allows.

Being their mine only, no problem telling the monitor app what our API key is since it is for private use as intended. Making that info public - not here bucko!

I will look into those. Saves me lots of time writing this system. So I keys will never be public though.... Only used for that miners secure info, nothing  will be public except when blocks are found in pools.

Kano, I am coding up various general information about Kano.is right now - plus based on the previous discussion on fees, I just started tracking bytes that need to be confirmed so that we can text / email people when fees are lower to consolidate smaller blocks.

I am hoping to tell what the pool average we would be paid by at this exact moment.  Is there a way to calculate that with the information you show on the home page?  I know you have the instant hash rate, but I would like to have the PPLNS stored in 5 minute increments as well as the real time hash rate.  I suppose I could always estimate it by looking at all the previous 5 minute hashes for the 5Nd that you report on https://kano.is/index.php?k=payout, but that will probably lose a fair bit of accuracy in the translation.

It would also be nice to be able to get the actual payouts from the api.  I plan to give the ability to text/email for every block and/or after they make a profit beyond their power and expenses.  As it currently stands, I will have to be asking for username, password and 2fa to be able to deliver those details from the Kano site, but most people will not want that information out.  Most of the other pools do share payout info via the api.

In any case, please share your thoughts on how I can compute the payout hash rates.  Thanks so much and I hope you are doing well.
You can't compute them in advance.

You will find no predictions about future rewards on the web site for a reason, it's random and I'm not interested in providing guesses about what people might get in the future.

The payout generation code takes 2-5 seconds to determine the 5Nd and calculate the rewards.
It also has to wait until after a certain set of events to ensure the value is correct - usually about 15 minutes.

There is simply an 'expected' reward if luck is 100%, actual rewards on the rewards page, and pool average pps%s on the blocks page for various ranges.

If you are requesting people to give you access to  their login password so you can guess what they will be paid in the future, you come off as a scam.
I certainly will not be removing the warning on the web site about that and would block any site doing logins to multiple accounts.
Mining is a lot of money, and anyone asking people for access to their money sounds like a phishing scam.

My goal is to have the miner enter their power and any pro rated costs so there is a cost per second to operate the miner. Then the miner van  select that they want a report issued via text or email once per day, week or whenever a block is found. I would list their earnings, costs based on the time it took to find the block and overall profit for the block. I eventually want to have an analysis of how their past performance in other pools "Would have been". Obviously the past  is the past, so maybe not worth it.  When I was in slush, my custom monitoring system would text me whenever a block was found where I profited more that day 50%. That is a piece of what I hope to offer to all miners for free forever. And if they see value,  maybe a donation or two  will come in.

Yes, I probably won't go down  the road of usernames because my site would be subject to attack.  So if the API won't offer past  payments fur the miner, then that info won't be offered. But I still will be able to offer alerts for miner problems which is also valuable. So could I use my hash rate and kano payment to compute other miners payments based  on the hash rate ratios that their miners generated?

Sorry this is so confusing.
