261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox: No SQL injection happened, switch to SHA-512, offline until 8:00 am GMT on: June 20, 2011, 03:24:48 AM
100-200 BTC + ~1000 USD stolen.  Doesn't seem too bad...

So.... could they, or someone, explain about the 200,000 -400,000 Bitcoins that was sold off, and drove the price down to 1 cent???

As far as I have gathered those transactions were internal to Mt. Gox and were never paid out. They weren't actual bitcoin transactions.

Not true. I had a buy order in around $12/btc that triggered on the way down and I was able to withdraw my BTC before the site shut down. I'd like to know how they plan to roll THAT back.
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Who we are on: June 19, 2011, 08:19:39 PM
Can I suggest creating both a twitter account and a presence in an IRC channel (ex: #TradeHill)?

You can use these two to communicate with your customer base in the event something were to happen to tradehill like just happened to MtGox. Twitter is fantastic for getting out quick "we know it - were working on it" snippets to ease people's fear.

I think you should take some pictures of inside your case to show us how your setup. It really seems like your lacking proper airflow...

Been using guiminer for a few weeks now, just sent a small donation. Thanks for the work!

Do you have monitors plugged into each card and/or dummy plugs? See here: http://www.overclock.net/folding-home-guides-tutorials/384733-30-second-dummy-plug.html

Also have you disabled ULPS? See here: http://www.evga.com/FORUMS/tm.aspx?m=125438

Give those a try :-)

Buy fans. Get air moving THROUGH your case (in one end and OUT the other end).

You are very lucky your hard drive hasn't died - I hope you have good backups.

Keep your GPU under 85c and your cpu under 65c. If you don't you will shorten the life of both dramatically or just kill them flat out.
267  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Good Speeds on Sapphire 5830's 311.4MHash/s on: June 16, 2011, 11:46:09 PM
Guys... MSI Afterburner supports 2+ cards.

In the settings you can select the card to adjust.

And if all else fails, set the clocks manually with AMD GPU Clock Tool (this is what I use when my other tools fail).
268  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Question about buying a motherboard with 3 PCI-E x 16 slots! on: June 13, 2011, 02:23:09 AM
Mining requires very little PCIE bandwidth. This is why you see many rigs using the 1x PCIE riser cables.

Short of it: You will be fine and shouldn't see an impact in speed.

Re: Overclocked numbers

I used an mhash number I figured was realistic. Im getting 300mhash/s on all my 5830s without voltage mods. When I couldnt decide on a figure I usually just picked something in the middle of the results on the hardware comparison page.

Feel free to take my figures and adjust guys :-)
270  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Graphics Cards on: June 13, 2011, 02:02:14 AM
So I did some research the past few days and have created a small matrix of card price vs mhash.

The mhash speeds were taken from the hardware matrix here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
Power draw figures were taken from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units
Prices are generally before tax/shipping and most of the prices came from Newegg.

This was compiled during the first week of June 2011.

Card  |  Price | Speed per $ | Speed | Power-draw
5770 @ $95  = $0.44/mhash     215      108w
5830 @ $110 = $0.36/mhash    300       175w
5850 @ $200 = $0.64/mhash    315       151w
5870 @ $500 = $1.25/mhash    400       188w
6750 @ $100 = $0.60/mhash    165       86w
6770 @ $95  = $0.52/mhash    180       108w
6850 @ $150 = $0.65/mhash    230       127w
6870 @ $165 = $0.55/mhash    300       150w
6950 @ $220 = $0.58/mhash    375       200w
6970 @ $310 = $0.82/mhash    375       250w
6990 @ $750 = $1.00/mhash    750       375w

Given the results of this data and shopping around for a few days, I am buying a few 6870's since the 5830's are no longer to be found :-) I chose the 6870 over some of the lesser cards mostly due to possible resell value and re-purposing for my gaming rig.
271  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Guidelines for building a mining rig on: June 13, 2011, 01:55:24 AM
I would emphasize that CPU speed really doesn't matter. My main mining rig is running an Athlon X2 4200 @ 1ghz to save on power.

Also that the most important thing with power supplies is the amount of wattage/amperage available on the 12v rail(s). Do not just simply look at the overall power (ex: 600watts) written on the front of the box. I have a 400w Enermax that puts out more 12v power then some 700w PSU's i've seen on Newegg.

273  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: CPU cores up to 92C mining 24hrs... on: June 13, 2011, 12:16:38 AM
Some quick suggestions...

Get more air movement through your case.

Make sure you have equal fans pulling air in as pulling air out.

Make sure the flow of air seems "right" and its going over your components not short circuting.

Make sure all dust is removed.

Make sure the fans are WORKING.
274  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone tried 6 cards on GD70? on: June 12, 2011, 10:38:49 PM
FWIW: Im running 2x 5830s overclocked to 1000mhz + AMD Athlon X2 4200 + 1HHD + 5 fans on a 400watt Enermax PSU (385w on the 12v rails).

Estimate your load on each voltage and compare with the rated wattage on the PSU.

276  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Opinions: Is a Corsair TX750 enough for four HD 5830s? on: June 10, 2011, 02:32:53 PM
Im running an entire mining rig w/ 2x 5830's at 1000mhz on a 400w Enermax PSU :-)

Its all about the 12v rails.
277  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Good Speeds on Sapphire 5830's 311.4MHash/s on: June 09, 2011, 02:11:28 AM
1005/300 stock voltage 65c stable. Hitting 310mhash/sec with phoenix and the following attributes:

"-k poclbm DEVICE=1 VECTORS AGGRESSION=12 BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 FASTLOOP"

Tried lots of combinations, that seemed to be the best. SDK 2.1 w/ 11.5 Cat drivers on Windows 7 64bit.
278  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please Rate this build on: June 09, 2011, 01:54:17 AM
1. Underclock the memory and overclock the gpu on your 5830's. The gpu should do ~900MHz without increasing voltage, which will yield a power consumption of about 160W and hash rate about 280Mhash/sec, per card.

Running 1005/300mhz on my Sapphire 5830 and getting 310Mhash/s with phoenix + poclbm + SDK 2.1 - running stable at 65c and stock voltage.
279  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 3 gpu psu? on: June 09, 2011, 12:50:49 AM
Ive seen so much discussion on these boards thats always centered about total wattage. Total wattage is not the important factor in determining if your PSU will handle these cards - what is more important is amperage available on the 12v rail(s).

I have a 400watt Enermax PSU that puts out more 12v amps then a lot of 650+watt PSU's i've seen on newegg. Read the PSU laebels and make sure you have the power you need in the VOLTAGE you need.

Sounds almost exactly like my past 24 hours.

I'm using a startup batch file just like your solution.
