261  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014 - 2 - 15] With MtGox Dead, Bitcoin Enters Its Third Stage of Evolution on: February 27, 2014, 12:06:33 AM
https://medium.com/p/2d33cf85382b

By BitGo CEO, Will O'Brien.

"We are now entering the third stage, in which core financial infrastructure and services will be built by veteran entrepreneurs backed by institutional money, and in accordance with the regulatory framework of the United States and other nations. This stage will end with mainstream adoption of Bitcoin and consolidation of Bitcoin companies as large financial incumbents embrace digital currency."

"The fourth stage will begin when Bitcoin becomes a widespread medium of exchange and can be used to revolutionize industries outside of financial services, such as real estate, contracts, supply chain, and machine-to-machine commerce."

"The promise of Bitcoin is self-evident. The financial services industry has not seen much innovation over the last 50 years, and digital currency is poised to deliver 50 years worth of innovation in the next 18 months."

So just to be clear, you think stage three will take 18 months or in 18 months Bitcoin will be at stage four?
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people fear regulation so much? on: February 26, 2014, 11:57:18 PM
One of the major problems with regulations would be the state and government licenses.   The exchanges, or business may be forced to be licensed in each state or country that a person is trying to purchase bitcoins from.  Not to mention that you may need to register with all appropriate forms of ID, any place that you purchase or store bitcoins.  Major un-needed headache

I agree, it's a major barrier to entry for the little guy.  I don't really mind if you need a license but they should have affordable, a money transmitter license is simply not something the average business person can afford and that's what should change.
263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I sleep at night peacefully!?!! on: February 26, 2014, 11:54:09 PM
Created a bootable OS.
Downloaded GitHub BitAddress.org
Went Offline
Generated Address & Private Key
Sent Bitcoin To Bitcoin Address
Put Public & Private Key on fresh USB and physical paper.

Will my Bitcoin be secure? Of course I could lose them by plugging in the USB and getting compromised but the USB is just a back up

I spread my Bitcoin across 4 paper wallets...

Yeah you can sleep at night, you're pretty secure there.

265  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are BTC prices not moving ? on: February 25, 2014, 07:31:46 PM
Are you happy now?you cant complain about prices anymore.

Still not down to where I feel comfortable buying 100. Smiley

Dont be greedy,Buy now Grin

I do have some. Buying 100 right now would require putting my eggs in too few baskets, though.

If I could somehow invest in "some distributed virtual currency either now in existence or yet to be created", I might be willing to go all in. Even then you've still got one of the biggest risks - that governments come in and somehow declare virtual currencies utterly illegal.

I think the ship has sailed on any major government declaring Bitcoin illegal.  Most have weighed in and have said it is legal but they want certain aspects to be regulated.  Could things change?  Sure, but it seems unlikely.
266  Economy / Goods / Re: GOLD COINS FOR SPOT -- FREE SHIPPING! on: February 25, 2014, 07:18:22 PM
He told me he is not selling anymore (if I remember correctly).

I am not selling via escrow, I just don't do that -- amagi doesn't do it, no shop does it, and I am basically a shop, well kind of.

Selling a small handful of coins doesn't make you a shop, especially with a 0 trust rating.  It makes you a random guy on the internet like the rest of us.  Let me ask you this, instead of giving that 5% discount, would you be willing to put that towards paying someone to do escrow?  Basically I pay spot price to the escrow, they take 5%, you get 95%.  It's the same as if you were selling directly to me except a lot safer for me.

The cynicalism on thse boards never ceases to amaze me...
This guy is a freaking VIP and Hero Member... That VIP part means he's DONATED 50BTC to the board....and you say he has no trust? I'm just about tired off all the suspicion here...

TradeFortress was a VIP member too.  I'm pretty sure pirate was too.  I could give you a whole list.

I didn't say he has no trust, I said he has no trust rating (which I agree is a stupid system but if you're going to call yourself a shop you should have something).  I simply countered his offer with an offer of my own, which he rejected and is totally within his right.  I've been a part of this forum just as long as he has.  I'm still a random guy on the internet and so is he.  I understand this is a one-time deal and someone will probably take the risk and do it but it won't be me.
267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Money run by Gox and conspiracy happening right now (Joint statement topic) on: February 25, 2014, 07:11:18 PM
The writing has been on the wall about Gox for a LONG time now.  It's not like this should come as a surprise to anyone.  There will be no increased regulation because of Gox's incompetence, regulators only care about money laundering, not some dummy who can't run his business.
268  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: DONT LET MARK KARPÈLES LEAVE THE COUNTRY! on: February 25, 2014, 07:08:50 PM
he is already linked to federal investigations that are on going. He's not disappearing anywhere.

+1

Stop with the vigilante nonsense.  It's not like he's an anonymous guy, he won't be hard to track down if he runs (which I doubt).

Lets say I write a blog and you read my blog daily.  It provides you with a good form of information or entertainment so you feel like you want to tip me.  Even if it's just $0.25.  How do you tip someone a quarter over the internet with cash?  Show me an easy way.

272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This article pretty much sums up all invalid arguments against bitcoin on: February 24, 2014, 06:25:53 PM
I'm all for BTC as an investment, but whenever someone tries to portray cash as being evil and BTC better, it's really living in a world of illusion and fantasy. Cash will always be superior. Four years old now and how many places are BTC/LTC accepted at? Slim to none and destined to remain that way.

The problem is you're trying to compare a well established system to something that is still in its infancy.  But even if you try to make this rather unfair comparison, cash still isn't superior in all situations.  I'll just give you one example, microtransactions.

Lets say I write a blog and you read my blog daily.  It provides you with a good form of information or entertainment so you feel like you want to tip me.  Even if it's just $0.25.  How do you tip someone a quarter over the internet with cash?  Show me an easy way.  Bitcoin fulfills this function a lot easier.  Now you might say, well it's only $0.25.  But what if I have 100,000 readers and they all tip me a quarter?  Now we're talking real money.  Never talk in absolutes, that's just one easy example of how Bitcoin can be far superior to cash.

I'm a little confused on the investment part. If I invest .10 BTC, are you giving me 20% or 5% my initial investment? And are you sending that to my BTC wallet or straight into the account?

Thanks!

Hi,
When you invest, I immediatly will send 20% of your investment to your WALLET.
After that, you will see that your balance in the site is growing every day,
and you can withdraw it in each second.

You can see that we have already 20,000 investors that invested more than 2 MILLION $

Enjoy

I didn't get paid...

Sorry friend, thats because you were late in the first offer.
50 people before you got paid.  Sad

Where can I see 20,000 investors investing over $2 million?  Other than on a font on a website that is.

Check the live withdraw/deposit in the bottom of the page

Oh yeah no way that can be faked....  Roll Eyes

Very cool toys Smiley
How do you recover the camera, is there a gps module? How can you be sure that the balloon won't drop in the sea or in a river?

Yes, it has a GPS module that sends data over RTTY each 30 secs, so you can track the balloon on a map. By using a software that analyses all the world wind data you can predict the landing spot, in fact the prediction I did before launching was nearly perfect. Also, it is advisable to launch on a non-windy day and far from sea.

On a non-windy day, what would you estimate the distance would be the balloon will travel from the launch site?  Also, how long does the balloon stay in the air before popping?
278  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTB] Amazon gift card code on: February 23, 2014, 08:35:02 PM
I'll send you a code but you have to send the BTC first.  PM me your offer if you're still interested.
279  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is the price of Bitcoin so low now. Is it MT.Gox? on: February 23, 2014, 08:31:23 PM
It's not "low". It was $100 last October, before the China-based runup. For a few months, buying Bitcoins with yuan from within China and selling them for dollars or euros outside China was a good way to get around China's exchange controls. That drove a runup from $100 to $1100 in only two months.

The People's Bank of China put a stop to that in January 2014. And you're bitching that the price only dropped to $600.

Mt. Gox is mostly irrelevant to this. During the latest Mt. Gox debacle, the price has stayed in the $600-$700 range. (What's going on at Mt. Gox is not a price, because you can't actually get anything out of Mt. Gox)

Wow you're still around.  Just curious if you're still a skeptic or not.

To not derail the thread, I think Gox certainly had some impact on the price but I also agree that some perspective needs to be kept when saying, "why so low?"  Bitcoin has exploded in price by any measure except someone looking at a very short timeline.  Fact remains Bitcoin is still very much in its infancy and volatility should be expected.
