guys i'm wondering if its possible to include some free mint with every wallet? you know like an automated faucet? that way as soon as you install your wallet and the blockchain is updated you automatically receive 10 MINT or something. I think people would like it and then they can instantly send their friends some coins or receive some. And they see that the wallet actually works. Only a few people know how to access an exchange and buy coins. That's too complicated for a beginner.

what do you think? of course there would have to be a way to protect the wallets from being scammed automatically  Tongue

I really don't think that is possible and would just create a nightmare of people or bots downloading wallets every second just to get the free Mintcoins.

There are many ways to get new people involved and give them free coins.

Facebook tipping app...you can give and get a number of different coins  https://apps.facebook.com/wpmultitipping/

Twitter Tip Bot   https://twitter.com/MintTip

I've even shown people on their own computers how easy it is to download and instal the wallet and then use the faucet, Facebook Tipping and Twitter tipping. Now I'll be helping them get set up at Vault of Satoshi as well, this will give them another way of getting more Mint. Once they see how easy and fast things work, they really get into it, and the interest Mint pays makes them Happy Happy Happy...

i understand your concerns but I disagree. Let me explain.

May I ask what country you're from? I'm from Germany. In Germany the average people are just way way back in the internet age. The most people don't even know how to operate a simple PC. In Germany the majority of the people just simply don't trust anyone telling them about electronic money transfers or computers and co. Most people don't even use online banking because it can be "hacked". It took a long time to get the people to use Wifi without fearing losing all their savings to an anonymous hacker.

Therefore hardly anyone in Germany uses twitter. I have to admit I have a twitter account but use it only twice a year Smiley

Additionally Facebook is a big enemy for the average German. Most people use it but with fake names or with the privacy settings raised to the maximum. So only a few would use a Facebook application like the tipping app. Some use Candy Crush but it's another story :9 The whole Germanycoin Airdrop failed mainly because they used facebook to give the Germans some free coins. The users called it an outrage!

As said before the average German doesn't want to click to many buttons or to give away to much of his/her personal information therefore it is really difficult to convince someone to install a wallet, then go to another page and do something in order to get some free coins.

My suggestion against all the scammers and bots out there:

- average Joe installs the Mintcoin wallet. As soon as the wallet is synced a message appears "Do you want to claim your free 10 MINT?".
- average Joe clicks Yes -> Please verify that you're human, enter that captcha -> After that the 10 MINT are sent to the newly created wallet address. Just once.

Everything happens within the wallet. No extra clicks. No sites. No privacy abuse. See it as a faucet within the wallet.

What do you guys think? I don't think it is so difficult to implement a simple captcha and an automated faucet into the wallet.

Thanks for reading my wall of text  Cheesy

I downloaded your version but see no diff in sending coins...do I miss something or need to config something somewhere?

You need to enable it. In wallet choose settings-->options-->display-->mark "display coin control features"

Click OK. You will see CCF on Send tab now.

If you want to send only the newest coins do the following:

1. Open "inputs"
2. Choose list mode
3. Click on conformations twice to sort by lowest amount of conformations first.
4. Select enough adresses to fulfill your required amount.
5. Click OK
6. Use sending tab as usual.

Ill give it a go and make short video about this feature soon.

----

Also i will compile mac and windows wallet with openssl 1.01g as soon as openssl.org comes up. It looks like this site is being overloaded a lot after bitcoin announcement.  Grin
Its not really any threat to mintcoin, but better safe than sorry.  Wink

Kergekoin, you're amazing!!! Just used your Mac Wallet with the Coin Control for sending you a little something! I think the devs can put the mac wallet out for the official download!

Thank you very much!!!

Hey guys any info / progress on the Android wallet? I promise to throw in another 100 k mint if the minting Android wallet is released before other PoS coins have it (blackcoin, faircoin...). Please Mr. Beaverslayer add it to the main bounty!
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 09, 2014, 11:35:48 AM
Hey guys, since blackcoin is out there for nothing less of world domination how about a controlled single dump of certain coins mined using the multipool. I mean mining and dividing some of the mined shit coins to dump a huge amount of this coin at once thus causing a major price slide in this coin. That way blackcoin could destroy each competitor at a time. The true coin wars!

our goal is not to destroy other coins.... that's toxic

No? But I thought the multipool is doing exactly that right now anyway. Might as well do it on a bigger scale.

A new version is coming soon, compiled with openssl 1.0.1g, but we need further testing.

Sounds great! Maybe you could comment on that wallet with coin control kergekoin made? Is it safe to use that feature without destroying the mintcoin itself? No hardfork needed? Just for the less technical guys here on the forum.

Thank you

Thx kergekoin for the coin control! As soon as you release the Mac test wallet I will be happy to test it! Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks to you, beaverslayer for the detailed explanation. Nevertheless I would suggest kergekoin looks into this matter. If he finds a possible solution without a hard fork maybe he can contact the devs with that solution.

Thanks

Why would integrating a wallet feature create a hard fork? Wallet Control is not part of the algorithm of the coin. HBN was not hard forked for the wallet feature, Tranz added wallet control to newer HBN wallets. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Can please one of the devs or beaverslayer or anyone else comment on this?
This feature indeed would be awesome

Mint Coin Devs, Coin Control integration into the wallet would be a plus.

http://wiki.hobonickels.info/index.php?title=Coin_Control

I agree, that would be a very nice feature.

If no one is doing it yet, then i could integrate it when i get some free time.
Together with little testing it takes about half a day probably.

That would be amazing. Please do!

Thanks
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: April 07, 2014, 11:26:12 AM
Thanks for the information. So we're talking couple of months here.

While I do understand that such a sophisticated exchange needs proper testing I am not that sure that we need to implement all the mentioned features for an initial release. Couldn't they be implemented step by step? Or is it too difficult code wise? People may lose interest. Also not everybody wants to use all the upcoming features. So I think a simple good looking client with a basic exchange might be more sensible at the beginning. Otherwise we just end up implementing terrific features while the launch is being postponed further and further.

Thank you

How far on with testing the ae are we? are we any closer to releasing it on the main net?

Yes, also very curious about it. Have been testing it on the testnet using wesleyh s client, seemed pretty stable and functional already a couple of weeks ago. Could someone working on it (James,?) tell us what's the status? How many bugs are there? What specific features need to be tested?
Mastercoin and counterparty already have their clients. We need to get things done soon.

Thank you, appreciate your hard work

hey guys you know of an execoin faucet? that could really interest more people in execoin together with the upcoming android wallet.

I was contacted by a developer a few days ago - he never contacted me back after I replied unfortunately.

I still have the announcement on the reddit page posted. Hopefully someone accepts the challenge soon.

the owner of coinok.pw seems like a decent guy. he already has a lot of faucets. should i contact him? i'm sure he's interested in setting it up.

279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin, Energy Saving Coin *Wallet 1.7, Mandatory update! on: April 04, 2014, 01:46:44 PM
@Beaverslayer
I'm planning on starting a github fork of bitcoinj or digibytej in the weekend for a base of the android wallet. I think I digged deep enough in the mintcoin C++ codebase to make this conversion. Once the library is done, rest is just UI, and can be forked from any coin wallet.

I'll start the project on github, and will provide write access to the repo for interested parties. I want all the changes of mint from bitcoinj or digibytej to be recorded in github, so it will be easy to merge upstream changes later. (As far as I can see, digibytej started as a brand new project, and uploaded bitcoinj + their changes in a single commit, which makes it hard to keep track of what they changed)

I haven't tested any coin's android wallets myself, if there are differences in look & feel of them, I'll be happy to know.

Still, if anyone already started this, please don't stop development Smiley This message is just FYI, not a commitment yet.

it's really awesome that you want to give it a shot. i believe you can do it!

i've tested the dogecoin wallet which you can download here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.langerhans.wallet

i think its really nice and simple. people on play store also like it. here is the github for it https://github.com/langerhans/dogecoinj-new

if something goes wrong or there are problems maybe we could just contact the developer and ask whether he's interested in making a MINTCOIN wallet?! he already has a bitcoin wallet so maybe a mintcoin port is possible.

280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin, Energy Saving Coin *Wallet 1.7, Mandatory update! on: April 03, 2014, 09:34:57 PM
Is there an active android wallet development? I saw people mention Bigchirv, but couldn't see any of his posts in this thread, maybe I missed it.

Certainly you may miss them. Hey there, Smiley

I've been studying the code of the wallets out there and yes, I'd like to start with the project. Some user days ago uploaded some images:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwpkXqmxmdGScm9lb21pTXhuS00&usp=sharing

and basically is that what is holding me back, because I don't wanna waste my time (or any other's time) starting the project if someone already has something already on the table.

However, many days have passed and no more news on the status of that work.

Somebody can give us an update on this? Anyone?

I'm thinking on minting on a mobile device. Minting uses 100% cpu to find a hash, much like PoW, but using owner's coins. A phone user would not want to enable it.

I stated exactly the same some posts ago when the topic came up. It basically will drain the mobile's battery and also will slow the device.

On the other hand, a tablet-only user might want it if it's her only computer, so android wallet should ideally have minting, but the ability to turn it off. Or options like "mint only when charging", "mint only when charging and battery > 80%", "mint only when screen is locked"

And another user said the same tho. The argument was he has friends that would like to mint on their tablets. I still think the battery life will still be an issue. However we can always do what gonzoucab is saying and put a checkbox enabling/disabling minting. Of course, for that 1st we need the wallet up and available for download  and 2nd have implemented the PoS algorithm.

I'm thinking about the first use case, to run mintcoin wallet on a phone, but the user doesn't want his phone to mint at all. What happens if I share my private key between desktop wallet and android wallet?
Does anyone know how the QT clients react when the same wallet.dat is used on two computers simultaneously? Do they notice funds in an account are gone if they see an outgoing transaction in the blockchain, or do they assume only they can initiate transfers?

Those are real good questions. People usually goes with the new wallet/priv-key created when installing the app on their devices.

Maybe the Mintcoin Dev Team can answer this to us. Or somebody can point us to proper documentation. I can't tell whether or not there's a mechanism to prevent things like you're mentioning. If it doesn't exists we may design one (by "we" I mean the interested developers that are lurking around the forum, Smiley).

I mean desktop wallet can mint all the time, and to sync my android wallet, I can show it a QR code from desktop wallet and voila, from that point android wallet can spend coins (and all future coins) from my desktop wallet. They should be able to track their balances over the blockchain.

110% agree.

Maybe what I imagine* is not possible due to changes being sent to new generated addresses, but I'm not sure.

I'd like to have the answers of those Qs too. I'm no a cryptocoin expert; but I usually solve problems either with code or Linux servers. My employers usually give me broken code I'm not familiar with, written in <put_the_name_of_the_language_here> and then say "fix it". So, I think I'm capable to do the task. Of course, any of the developers on the forum can help. That's the beauty of Open Source.

EDIT: Improve some English expressions. It is not my native language.

I have repeatedly asked questions regarding the android wallet and they are never answered by David, who is the only person here who seems to have contact with the developers (and may actually be part of the development group/or possibly is the developer - how would we ever know?).

The most important question, which I've asked about 6 times now, is how much are the developers putting up for an Android Wallet (from the 700,000,000 pre-mine). With this information, the job can be shopped around the development community. Without it, well....lets just say we still don't have a working app.

Personally, I'm interested in the Android Wallet so that I can SHARE Mintcoin via mobile...and help others do so. Mintcoin is only going to spread by getting people interested, many people who may not even be Bitcoin holders at this point. An easy way to introduce it is to help them download the wallet, then send them some free Mintcoin...and watch their face light up at the ease of use.

It's not a complicated concept.

If you want Mintcoin to go up in value (instead of it being constantly wash traded in a box by the developer) then we need to be able to spread it - the Android Wallet is the key to this.

The ability for the wallet to mint is really secondary and should not be an impediment to the wallet being developed.

IMHO

please tell us an approximate price so we can discuss whether such an amount can be raised by the community. thank you

A. I have no idea what it might cost. But before I contacted any developer I would want to know what was available.
B. Not 1 Mintcoin should be spent by the community for an Android App. It's the developers responsibility as they've already indicated on the first page of the forum - part of the 700,000,000 pre-mine.

I understand your position. Are you still invested in Mintcoin? Or switched to an alternative coin?
