Just as in real life, wealth is an indicator of status and success. Not a guarantee, mind you, just an indicator. It's pretty simple - by showing that you have money to spend, you'll be taken more seriously by people you trade with. I think it's a very clever feature of Ogrr But the money is trifling amounts, like, fractions of cents...which is why it's ok. If it was anything more, it'd be a bank and a destroyer-of-anonymity to some extent. You're obviously not a gamer. Gamers like scores  The higher the better. And there is always the option to go after significant money, as mentioned earlier in this thread. Once new users get exposed to Bitcoin they may explore more and actually become bitcoiners. But the score is just money that you load into it? Or am I mistaken? |

As to your question, it was answered before in the other "Off-Topic" thread and I, along with many others, have no problems sending BFL money. I don't know why you choose to keep harping on these non-issues, but as I said before, please take it elsewhere. The topic of the thread is about forum members proving they have received their singles. If you do not have proof of your single arriving, and don't have any money on the line, I'm not really sure why you should even care. My 'fuck off' was in response to your forum policing. If you don't like my post, report it; don't shout down at me from your apparent pedestal. It was a question, directed at those I thought may have an answer to it. People spend billions of dollars on lottery tickets each year. Just because they are willing to throw their money at a stupid venture doesn't mean they should be applauded for it. Because you and a few others are happily paying them, I can't ask a question? My question has not been answered in the other 'off-topic' thread. Had it been, I would not have repeated it here. I'm not really sure why you bear such issue with my curiosity. I learn about all sorts of things that I have no stake in, bear no influence on my life and could care the less about every day. I rail against the fraternity pledge hazing mindset everywhere I see it. The idea that he shouldn't care anymore because the hazing period is over or nearly over is ridiculous. Am I tilting at windmills? Perhaps.
If you saw the level of spamming and scamming before the requirement existed, you would probably have a different stance. It in not 'hazing' in any sense. If you have a worthwhile contribution that requires attention in one of the subforums, being whitelisted is only one post away. Otherwise, taking a bit of time to learn the material and community is probably beneficial for everyone. On the other hand, bots offering SEO do have their charm.  |

I live in Des Moines and have access to a decent amount of capital. If they offer the Rig Box for real I'd drive two hours and buy at least one of them directly. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that the rig box probably doesn't exist yet. Perhaps in 4-6 weeks? |

Yup in a thread that is about proving BFL singles exist and work as advertised. Yup. Asking their customers, whom I would assume have the most information on them, in a discussion about their product. It doesn't matter if they are selling out of a van down by the river as long as they keep delivering a product. Now, lets talk some more about how we're unhappy with the "handling" cost of the "shipping and handling" from BFL And if they are collecting sales tax from that van down by the river regardless of where the item is shipped, it seems as if we could be discussing whether or not they are committing felonious tax fraud. |

Just as the title implies, are the singles worth it if you dont have to worry about electricity costs? I know they are very efficient compared to GPUs in terms of mh/w but I have a set cost for electricity where I live sooooo...?
What we had in mind were other issues of GPUs such as noise, heat, complete GPU failure due to heavy load, Fan failure which
seems to be common, equipments required to get the GPU to mine (MB, RAM, PCI-E Slots and/or risers), expensive PSUs which must feed the whole system and space occupation. With the thermal issues you guys have already been having, what makes you think that the singles won't be prone to the exact same issue, perhaps even an exacerbated version of it? Or are your fans special? |

That's about what I pay for my peak rate, per kWh. Off-peak is about $.01 cheaper, but I also get stuck with a "demand" fee of something like $15 per kW. During the summer my electric bill was still around $300-400 with my 900W mining box and a/c going 24/7  Yeah but he linked to his actual cost which was 4.2 cents (w/ 5.5 cent cap) on GENERATION ONLY. The link he provided clearly said transmission, distribution, connection, demand charges, taxes, and fees extra. Still he likely was too busy making a million dollars a second playing online poker to actually read his own link (even after it was pointed out to him). Yeah, a lot of people don't seem to understand that their base rate goes on top of aquisition and transmission charges, which are usually the lion's share of the bill. I sure as hell wasn't getting $.0702 electricity in central LA...worked out to more than double that in reality.
