261  Other / Meta / Re: [Theymos] To reduce tension from adding more merits source on: March 28, 2024, 05:45:57 PM
Implementing new merit sources or generally tampering the merit system is actually mathematical based if you observe closely. Take for example what you said is implemented, members will make posts and earn merits but since there are no merit sources to replenish the forum's circulating s merits, a time will come when every single member on the forum will totally run out of smerits so what then happens?

Merit is mainly a ranking up requirement and it's limited supply is what makes merit valuable on the forum because if there was too much s merits on the forum, I bet you merit will totally lost its value. This is the normal demand supply logic. I am sure Theymos is trying to balance this at the back door via smerits allocated to merit sources.
262  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The identity of the bitcoin founder. on: March 28, 2024, 05:34:42 PM
I have come across posts of this nature numerous times. But they all ball down a the same reason. Firstly Bitcoin is the biggest decentralized crypto graphic network and it is able to achieve that because of the anonymity of its creator ( Satoshi NAKAMOTO). Satoshi's anonymity is actually a sacrifice to keep the Bitcoin network fully decentralized because logically if Satoshi was reachable, Bitcoin would become centralized with the government being able to influence core aspects.

As long as Satoshi which is supposed to be the logical centralized body controlling Bitcoin remains anonymous, Bitcoin will remain decentralized leaving developers, miner and even me and you who are Bitcoin investors or people who transact with Bitcoin in control of the network.
263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin to the common man. on: March 28, 2024, 05:12:26 PM
In my opinion Bitcoin is the easiest investment a common man can make with you having full control and no third party involved. However overtime I have come to realize that the reason why some people run from Bitcoin investments is because they are scared because of stories they of heard of how people went bankrupt Because of an altcoin pump and dump scheme. I have also come across a lot of people who have this disturbing idea that Bitcoin is a get rich quick scheme that is even one of the main reasons why many of them easily gets scammed.

People who see the light in Bitcoin investments are those who have actually settled to understand how the whole crypto space works. Even if not everything but at least the most important and basic parts.
264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Using an USB stick to store the blockchain. on: March 28, 2024, 05:01:00 PM
What errors?
Exactly if you are still making use of windows, it is common that if Bitcoin core encounters an error while running on you computer you will get a message with a specific error code. If this happens you can easily use the code to trace the cause of the problem making easier to get a solution.
Besides that, how did you get the USB stick, is it an original one because just like Loycev mentioned, I myself have come across a lot of fake SanDisk USB sticks in the market. Most time after a short period of usage it begins to return a lot of error codes and even ends up corrupting some of your files.
Alternatively, you could upgrade you PC internal SSD storage capacity by changing to a comfortable hard drive to run core without slowing down the PC. Although it would be a more expensive option.
265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what would I do, if I paid for coin and the seller refused to release it. on: March 27, 2024, 03:55:32 PM
As long as both the buyer and seller is verified, you both can drop complaints on either end if any party fails to do their part by releasing the funds ( either crypto or cash.) And as the one paying via fiat , the exchange will ask for a full detailed receipt as the fix the issue. On most exchanges, if you are the one selling, you are not to release the crypto until you have confirmed you received the fiat payment. On the other hand, if you are the buyer you would have to be first to release funds and the seller also has to make sure to confirm that he received the fiat before releasing the crypto.

On most centralized exchanges like binance you can't trade until you have  successfully completed your KYC verification to avoid stolen funds that can't be traced.
266  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Please help me with the breeze wallet on: March 27, 2024, 03:46:42 PM
Hello,

I had some sats in this wallet. Channel was closed because I didn't open it since months. I wanted to send the sats on-chain to another wallet, I put normal fees, everything seems fine but nothing happened. I wanted to send them again but :

=> wallet show me the sats on the main screen
=> when I want to send them again, sats are not here (but the main screen is still the same)

I'm sorry, it's not easy to explain that. Hope someone will understand and help me.

Merci  Smiley

I recommend you check your network connection to ensure that the wallet is syncing with the block chain if not you either won't get proper update on your wallet or you will experience difficulties when you try to initiate a transaction. If you believe your internet connection is fine , you can check if your wallet is connected to the network via settings of your wallet.

If all these are in place try clearing the app data and restarting the app.
It's possible the transaction has already being broadcasted and even confirmed you can try checking the transaction id to confirm that. I also recommend you update this thread  topic to SOLVED to let others know if you've figured it out instead of spamming the thread.
267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has BTC really become more attractive than gold? on: March 27, 2024, 03:34:55 PM
What do you actually mean by the word attractive here? Now if I am to express my view I believe adoption fits better than attractive. The world is fast evolving and therefore a set of dynamic changes definitely occur from time to time and one of the most vastly exploited change is digital technology hence Crypto currency. From the early era gold adoption increased and gradually started declining since the adoption of paper money around the world therefore if you look closely you would notice the amount of gold assets owned by average people over time has actually reduced.

Bitcoin is actually taking a bigger set of adoption than gold and this is mainly as a result of we being in the digital era.

Have people like Peter Schiff accumulated a lot of BTC while still badmouthing BTC in the media?
As for this other people's hodling should not be your business rather you should focus on your's. Many people who speak openly against Bitcoin are actually hidden hodlers and whales.
268  Other / Meta / Re: What's Beginners and help section really about on: March 27, 2024, 03:22:21 PM
There is a lot of important and nice information on this forum inclusive of the beginner and help section you are actually talking about. The reason why most people especially newbies hardly come across some of this information is because of the fact that they are unable to properly exploit the use of the forum search button. The pinned threads there don't carry all guides and since some newbies either don't make use of the search button or are reluctant to use it, more and more questions are repeated most times.
There is obviously almost no way to stop reoccurring questions since it even takes some time for newbies to gradually understand the forum and consequently know how to make proper use of the search button as well as other forum features.

Quote
What am trying to say is if it would be possible for a pop up or notice with link show in the homescreen directing the newbie to a thread they can introduce themselves and maybe get some ideas and knowledge about how the forum works.
As for this I don't believe it's useful. Newbie introduction is one of the biggest spam on this forum and if you observe closely members are actually getting sick of it. Besides there is no rule here stating that you introduce yourself.
269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is age a limitation in Bitcoin on: March 27, 2024, 03:11:50 PM
Arguably it is. Take for example a 7 year old kid wants to venture Bitcoin. He will definitely not be able to manage funds properly because of his level of maturity. Such a  very young kid can easily be scamed due to their age factor. However when it comes to technicality relating to the Bitcoin Blockchain, I don't think age really is a limitation. Besides kids tend to be better programmers when they are younger based on their ability to assimilate fast .

Is you check properly you will even notice that most of the best Blockchain tech and programming gurus out there actually started at a very young age. So for a kid teaching them Bitcoin technicalities at a young age isn't a problem as long as the kid enjoys it and isn't forced to.

273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stop gambling if you don’t have free time to do it on: March 25, 2024, 05:28:22 PM
A lot of gamblers out there will definitely argue with the fact that they should stop gambling just because they are too busy. Since a lot of persons quote that gambling is a fun activity, they will definitely argue the fact that if it truly is then there should be nothing wrong with squeezing out some time at intervals just to catch some fun. Now based on logic they could be right. Gambling in this context isn't seen as a wrong act but the problem is the ability of the gambler to manage his gambling habits and activities properly such that he actually invests the logical amount of time and effort he should and not abusing certain things. The level of responsibility of a gambler matters a lot, and the gambler has full control on his ability to manage those responsibilities.
274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you take Part in Gambling Lotteries ? on: March 25, 2024, 05:22:04 PM
When it is free entry, then everyone will try their luck through these lottery games. These lottery have made big changes in the winners life. With sports betting and other gambling activities it is quite hard to make such big wins.
Of course winning via lottery is not quite easy. This is based on the fact that most of the time the odds of winning are very small compared to normal gambling activities. However lottery wins are most of the time more like a jackpot and for  most persons winning the lottery has a very great positive impact on their finances. However sometimes when people hit lottery jackpots some of them are unable to properly manage the huge bust of cash that comes from it and hence are unable to spend It properly and sometimes end up spending it wastefully even to the extent that some of them return back to their initial financial status before they won.
Winning a lottery requires a ton of Luck and using the money gained from it also require certain level of responsibility.
275  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to handle unethical casino tactics? on: March 25, 2024, 02:05:04 PM
show and promote winners is always a practice that any bookmakers or casino will realize.
nothing wrong with these. I am pretty agree... if they don't advertise "win people" what they should promote?

License, for crypto isn't an issue. But of course I prefer to play in a gambling site that has some license. Unless they are very famous and active since a while. Audits on games are a must. But also auditors must be "trustable" otherwise it's just a waste of time...
I don't think it is unethical to promote a business except the business is obviously a scam one. It's a normal practice for casinos to carryout advertisements of different kinds especially lastest fancy wagers and most especially winners, their winning  stake and the wins the achieved.
However licence for crypto could be seen more as a regional issue rather than a general issue. This is due to the fact that not all countries actually accept or legalize the use of crypto currencies for payments and other transactions. However I guess most casinos rather host and base their casinos in countries that have less conjested laws against crypto than
trying to host them in countries that don't support crypto. At the end of the day people in those regions can access those casino services online.
276  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: cruel level of addiction, causing harms and still keeping it up on: March 25, 2024, 01:50:19 PM
Of course gambling addiction is cruel and harmful, however addiction is still addiction no matter the level I don't think it should be ever considered as tolerable because sometimes people end up becoming gambling addicts because they overlooked certain bad practices that gradually became used to them and over time caused their addiction. Sometimes gambling addict don't actually realize the damage their addiction influences on both them and their relatives whether directly or indirectly. Sometimes by the time they get to realize what they have lost to their nasty addiction they have already ended up losing soo much.
This is why as a gambler you have to set priorities and limits to help you monitor your gambling activities and habits like stakes , time spent and lots more.
277  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Private miners, a ticket to getting faster transaction confirmations on: March 25, 2024, 01:32:11 PM
I once had a transaction that took almost a week and was never confirmed, then I successfully got acceleration service from viaBTC and it got confirmed in less than an hour, now please educate me, isn't that a private mining service that got my transactions confirmed at such a limited time, and if this private service which I sent my transaction hash to included mine to their mining block at such limited time, is it not worth implementing locally to help host of others on the network?

This is where a lot of people get it wrong. Mining is very dependent on hash power. Therefore solo miners have very tiny chances of being able to influence a block like quickly confirm a transaction especially  if the fee is high. This is part of the reasons why miners come together to form a mining pool where they can be able to combine their hash rates as they mine making it  easier for them to influence a block like rapidly confirm transactions.
So it doesn't work as if any miner can just pick up his gear and start confirming transactions immediately they are made. Because without a nice hash rate which only few solo miners have, confirming transactions isn't that easy. However with a mining pool these miners can conjoin has power and mine so when the successfully finds nonce that fits the block they can then share the reward based on the cryptographic effort they put into successfully mining the block.
278  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think merit is by chance or lengthy article? on: March 25, 2024, 01:14:07 PM
I don't know if it's just me but I think posts concerning merits have been raised frequently this week. Anyways back to the question. Merits are not rewarded based on  lengthy threads. If not , obviously if that was the case every single lengthy thread here on this forum would have a ton of merits. It is very possible to have a very lengthy garbage post however you could have a post of just 2 paragraphs carrying valid information. In fact I have discovered that most forum members prefer nicely summarized posts carrying pure info compared to a lengthy thread on same topic.

Merits depend on quality not length of the  post. Infact the more quality your post carries the more people would always want to venture reading it and thus merit it. Like I always say merits are magnets to quality posts the higher the impact of the thread the higher the chances of more merit.

280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is saving screenshots of useful information and BTC transactions? on: March 24, 2024, 01:07:20 PM
* My question is, how safe is it to keep screenshots of Bitcoin/crypto transactions and useful information, on ones device?

* How do I go about letting my friend know about such a habit of taking and keeping screenshots on his device that I have observed and warn him about it, without looking like I sense bad days coming?
It actually depends on the level of privacy you are trying to achieve. if you really want to be private and not draw too much attention, especially if you have large amounts of coins in your wallet, you should avoid sharing your transaction IDs and even your wallet address especially if it's your hodling wallet weather through screen shot or not you can easily copy the transaction id paste it on a block explorer and track transactions with that wallet on the block chain.

No as if they can actually access your coins directly from knowing your transaction id or wallet address but it gives the attacker some info on how much coins you have on that wallet. It's because of this that most people use mixers to kill traces to their hodling wallet.
As for warning your friend, I suggest you just educate him on these dangers and probably he may change.
