https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banks_in_EnglandYes and Wikipedia also doesn't list all the private and merchant banks in London either. Edit: Although if in the US a bank is only a bank that creates and issues credit like retail banks do well then most merchant banks in London do not fit that model. So if you guys think the title 'investment bank' is causing confusing to US forum members I can change it to 'investment firm/company'.
|
|
|
I suppose in the US a banking charter is needed? What could be called a merchant bank in London would probably just be called an VC fund in the US.
|
|
|
They are not any kind of bank. Not an investment bank, not a merchant bank. They are not a bank. They have no banking charter. They are a small business with negligible assets, no revenue and who happens to have the word bank in their name. Do you also believe the blood bank is a merchant bank?
OMG, you won the internet today. ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fs13.postimg.org%2Fcp1phfe1v%2FWhat_is_Merchant_Banking_Meaning.jpg&t=663&c=ED96SnSgIY-mNA)

No an investment bank is still a bank. It has a banking charter. "GreenBank" is no more a bank than a blood bank is a bank. As I said it would probably be known as a merchant bank in the UK. Who only really provide consulting and private investments.

|
what your talking about is in no way a bank of any kind.
Exactly. It is a company which didn't exist before Jan 2013, hasn't filed a quarterly report since last June and at that time it had $2M in assets, no revenue, and an operating loss of ~$2M annually. Probably for tax reasons.

http://www.greenbankcapitalinc.com/press-releases/greenbank-acquires-greencoin-cryptocurrency-software/GREENBANK ACQUIRES GREENCOIN CRYPTOCURRENCY SOFTWAREJUNE 11, 2014 BY ADMIN Toronto, Ontario, June 11, 2014 – GreenBank Capital Inc (CSE: GBC) (“GreenBank”) is pleased to announce that it has signed a definitive agreement (“Agreement”) to acquire all the rights, title and interest to the GreenCoin cryptocurrency software. When all aspects of the GreenCoin software are completed, GreenCoin will be a new innovative cryptocurrency featuring digital identification that aims to resolve the “trust based concerns” with other virtual currencies. Users of other cryptocurrencies are not identifiable and therefore those cryptocurrencies are not only susceptible to be used for illegal purposes, but are not easily taxable by governments. These concerns make global acceptance of cryptocurrency transactions more difficult. GreenCoin will provide a solution by adding email, or phone identification to all GreenCoin transactions. Those intending illegal activities will not use GreenCoin as they can be easily identified. Global governments will be able to collect taxes based on GreenCoin transactions with rules for each type of transaction. GreenBank’s newly formed subsidiary GreenCoin Inc, which now owns all the rights, title and interest to GreenCoin, intends to complete the software by adding additional features to the GreenCoin software protocol, prior to launching it on the market. Upon launch it will commence an awareness and marketing campaign for GreenCoin. At that time Greencoin Inc will seek to add GreenCoin miners and GreenCoin retail users and create a GreenCoin network, and will seek acceptance of GreenCoin by governments and banking institutions. GreenBank owns 75% of GreenCoin Inc, the lead developer Nilam Doctor owns 5%, and First Cyberking Network Limited (“FCN”) which has participated in the development of Greencoin owns 20%. GreenBank’s CEO, Danny Wettreich, has been appointed Chairman and CEO of GreenCoin Inc, and FCN’s CEO, Maxime Ngan, has been appointed a Director and Vice Chairman. Other directors of GreenCoin Inc are Nilam Doctor who is Chief Technology Officer, Paul Cullingham and Mark Wettreich. Mr Ngan is an entrepreneur and investor based in Mauritius with business interests in telecommunications, shipping, and hotels. Mr Doctor is the lead developer of GreenCoin and a technology consultant and programmer. He is a Grant Committee Member of the Bitcoin Foundation and has assisted in multiple cryptocurrency projects. “As an identified digital cryptocurrency, I believe that GreenCoin will represent a big step forward in the effort to resolve governmental concerns and users trust issues” said Danny Wettreich, CEO of GreenBank. “We are delighted to be working with GreenBank to complete the development of GreenCoin and launch it on the market” said Maxime Ngan, CEO of FCN. GreenCoin Inc is a software development company developing a unique cryptocurrency product featuring digital identification. GreenCoin has not yet been launched on the market. Securities regulatory authorities in Canada, including the Ontario Securities Commission, have yet to determine the impact of an investment product that invests in cryptocurrencies, including whether or not cryptocurrencies constitute a suitable asset class for retail investors. Upon the launch of the GreenCoin cryptocurrency on the market an investment manager registration or a dealer registration may or may not be required, and if required there is no guarantee that such registration applications if made would be granted. GreenBank has previously filed on Sedar on March 27, 2014 a Material Change Report containing disclosures with regard to the risk of investing in cryptocurrencies, and has filed today a further Material Change Report adding to such disclosures with respect to GreenCoin. There is no guarantee that the GreenCoin software will be completed, and if completed will be utilized in the market, and if utilized will be successful. > I installed build-essential and the compilation got much further this time. However it still exited with the following error. Great to hear it worked better, however sad to hear it didn't compile 100%. Do you got the libssl-dev package installed? IIRC that's the name of openssl development files. you can simply do a "ls /usr/include/openssl/", if it's listing files it's something wrong with our build scripts, if you get a error you're just missing the development files ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) he could just follow the compilation documentation in doc/ ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I've now managed to finally build anoncoind, but when I try to build anoncoin-qt it exits with an error. Any idea on the missing dependency? see doc/readme-qt.rst should tell you which packages you need yeah I followed the guide in there but got the following error - $ sudo apt-get install qt5-qmake libqt5gui5 libqt5core5 libqt5dbus5 qttools5-dev-tools Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package libqt5core5 is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source However the following packages replace it: libqt5core5a:i386 libqt5core5a
E: Package 'libqt5core5' has no installation candidate
So I tried the following which also gave an error. $ sudo apt-get install libqt5-dev Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package libqt5-dev
So then gave up and just used the launch pad to install it.

I think it'd be good if the stats page showed the CDF for each block history that has been hashed. Rather than just the amount of shares plus hours.

make[1]: g++: Command not found Installing GCC/G++ compiler usually solves this problem ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I myself prefer to install the meta package build-essential. It includes make, gcc etc.. including g++ IIRC. I installed build-essential and the compilation got much further this time. However it still exited with the following error. alert.cpp:6:53: fatal error: boost/algorithm/string/classification.hpp: No such file or directory #include <boost/algorithm/string/classification.hpp> ^ compilation terminated. make: *** [obj/alert.o] Error 1 So I installed libboost1.54-dev for a try and then got a much shorter compilation effort with the following error code. $ make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=- g++ -c -O2 -pthread -Wall -Wextra -Wformat -Wformat-security -Wno-unused-parameter -g -DBOOST_SPIRIT_THREADSAFE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -DENABLE_WALLET -I/home/bob/anoncoin/src -I/home/bob/anoncoin/src/obj -DUSE_IPV6=1 -I/home/bob/anoncoin/src/leveldb/include -I/home/bob/anoncoin/src/leveldb/helpers -DUSE_NATIVE_I2P -I/home/bob/anoncoin/i2psam -DHAVE_BUILD_INFO -fno-stack-protector -fstack-protector-all -Wstack-protector -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -MMD -MF obj/alert.d -o obj/alert.o alert.cpp In file included from serialize.h:22:0, from netbase.h:10, from util.h:34, from alert.h:13, from alert.cpp:11: allocators.h:12:53: fatal error: openssl/crypto.h: No such file or directory #include <openssl/crypto.h> // for OPENSSL_cleanse() ^ compilation terminated. make: *** [obj/alert.o] Error 1 Although I have the package openssl already installed so got stuck there.

When I follow this guide on compiling the Anoncoin wallet - https://anoncoin.net/index.php/guides2 - on Xubuntu 14.04LTS (64) I get the following error - $ sudo apt-get build-dep bitcoin -y [sudo] password for xxxx: Reading package lists... Hi I'm running Xubuntu 14.04LTS (64) and trying to set Armoury up. When I installed bitcoin-qt from the PPA it asked me to specify a place to store it. So I chose my Documents folder as my /home folder is on a 1TB SSHD while my / folder is on a small SSD. I've pointed Armoury to /documents but it still can't see it. Also I would like to be able to safely move all the bitcoin-qt folders and files to its own directory inside /documents instead of them all being spread out in the folder.
I solved it by removing and purging the previous bitcoin-qt install. Then removing plus purging the Armoury install and also deleting the .armoury folder left behind. Then reinstalling Armoury and letting it choose to download the bitcoin core client. The problem I had was that I read I needed to install the bitcoin core client and let it fully update before starting Armoury for the very first time. When I'd have been better off installing Armoury first and letting it choose to download the bitcoin core client. Anyway after downloading the blockchain now three times it looks to be working.

What's the process for regenerating a wallet from seed. I just reinstalled it all and it only offered me options to create a new wallet.
simplewallet --help Thanks, I've regenerated the wallet but it say's balance 0.0 I have read this though - 4. We caught a bug where restoring a deterministic wallet would not find old transactions. This was due to the assumption that is made by simplewallet that a newly "created" wallet will never have old transactions in it. This has been patched, and will be merged up to master and included in updated binaries from the beginning of next week.Is this why my balance shows 0 and is there a quick fix?

Is there any pools where you can merge-mine this with Monero using the command line only on a Linux server. Or is it only possible to merge-mine them both solo with the command line.
