I am not afraid about government banning or anything. But only the scalability issues with Bitcoin. The transaction fees are very high and people might start looking for alternatives with way lesser fees and instant confirmation. I guess that was what Segwit2X was aiming for. Crypto currency is something you own and transfer to the receipient when you want to, it's immediate payment and cannot be reversed unless theres some middleman escrowing your coins.
