261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: One of Satoshi's BTC address on: March 06, 2015, 03:45:07 AM
Just found something
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155054.0

the BTC addres might belong to Hal Finney , seeing how he says ,
When Satoshi announced the first release of the software, I grabbed it right away. I think I was the first person besides Satoshi to run bitcoin. I mined block 70-something, and I was the recipient of the first bitcoin transaction, when Satoshi sent ten coins to me as a test. I carried on an email conversation with Satoshi over the next few days, mostly me reporting bugs and him fixing them.

It's sad we lost such a great person and may be those bitcoins along with him
may he Rest in Peace Smiley

So I was right about the bitcoin.org domain! Smiley

Yeap you were right.
First satoshi created this forum as a folder under bitcoin.org/smf/ in December 2009
Then it was located to subdomain forum.bitcoin.org in May 2011
Finally it was completely seperated from bitcoin.org in September 2011.
Ps: Those dates are decided according to web.archive.org archives.

Actually as i think it was finally seperated to Bitcointalk.org in november 2009 ,he was pretty fast with the work and all

could be an account with satoshi name used by some people, and satoshi is in fact not one person but a group of people. do not matter who made this forum. but the most important is how to keep this forum in order to remain there

I don't think Satoshi is a few people but there is a chance. If he is a few people, then he writing language will be different but there wasn't any claimings it was different though there was a claiming his English is so fluent and great.

   -MZ

I do agree with you, Satoshi wasn't/isn't a group but a single person , as Hal Finney said in his thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155054.0

He says , Today, Satoshi's true identity has become a mystery. But at the time, I thought I was dealing with a young man of Japanese ancestry who was very smart and sincere. I've had the good fortune to know many brilliant people over the course of my life, so I recognize the signs.
264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Augur bets on blockchain on: March 06, 2015, 03:35:42 AM
In conversation with CoinDesk, Gardner and Krug sought to portray Augur as a project that plans to use decentralized public ledgers to create a way for anyone in any field, from finance, healthcare and governance, to tap into the collective forecasting power of a global user base.

http://www.coindesk.com/augur-future-blockchain-prediction-market/

"With bitcoin, it’s a better money than what we have, but it's a version of what we have today. We’ve never really had a wildly popular prediction market. We’ve never had these open-source tools to be able to bet on the Internet and turn that into a social good."

"If Augur is successful, there’s a huge opportunity to make money, but we believe that if this succeeds, we’ll have created this world-changing forecasting tool."

White paper of Augur's Project

Seems pretty much interesting and will bring great change to bitcoin community Smiley
265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the rumor about the latest 50,000 BTC auction true? on: March 06, 2015, 03:32:45 AM
That can't be true 30% is way too much high ,the news isn't confirmed yet , so it might be just a Rumour
They always sell for above market price.  Same would happen if you tried to buy 50,000 BTC from an exchange.  The benefit here is you are buying from the US government, so you don't have to worry about trusting some startup company with millions of your dollars.

Yes , that does gaurantee the trust and that they will not loose it , but even if they decide to buy from exchange , they can buy in steps and save that , 30% is way to high to believe it !
266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin? on: March 05, 2015, 06:20:18 AM
The block reward will seize to exist at some point in time.

What could be used as a further incentive to mine?
i don't think the block reward ever seizes to exist, because the reward only "Halves" every fixed number of blocks. and also there always will be the transaction fees included, which is received by miners. and if the price rises that little amount will be worth receiving

IT will seize to exist at some point , when all the 21 mil coins will be mined ,the blocks will give no reward but they will be empty and will be used for confirmation , the miners will earn through the transaction fees that will be paid , so may be the transaction fee will increase or maybe not if the price takes a jump , and it sure will , seeing how much time we have

269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are there so many Bitcoin news sites? on: March 05, 2015, 05:37:25 AM
I used to have a short list of Bitcoin and general crypto-related news sites in my bookmarks bar but now I see that the list has become very, very long. There is CoinDesk, CoinTelegraph, CoinsSource, Bitcoin Magazine, Altcoin Herald, CryptoArticles, CryptoCoinsNews, as well as similar sites like Let's Talk Bitcoin which have articles and news but presents the information in a show format.

I'm guessing that most of these sites profit from ad revenue since they tend to have lots of ads. So is it profitable? And does there really need to be so many news sites covering a single topic?

Well! the more sites the better .
Why does it matter if most of the site is having same article or talk , it's news and everyone covers it in their own way.
270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gaming and bitcoin will bring mass adoption on: March 05, 2015, 05:35:25 AM
This is an awesome idea actually.
Gaming and bitcoin , i think most of the guys play Games or have at some point , imagine if we could put bitcoin advertisment in games and like buy virtual currency of game through Bitcoin or may be better just earn some Bitcoin playing games.
I would love to see a GameStore online where i could pay with bitcoin and get a Genuine copy of that game  , though that's already happening i see many people selling games for btc.
Keep it up ! Bitcoin needs every little help
271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Reason Bitcoin Should Succeed... on: March 05, 2015, 05:32:32 AM
I have posted crap like this before but a lot of things annoy be about fiat and I often think there must be a better way.

Today I went to a large retail park in my car. I wanted to pay for the car parking. The charge was 70p or £1.20 but unfortunately I didn't have the correct change in my wallet.

I then ended up borrowing a £1.00 from my wife to pay the £1.20 even though it would have been longer than we wanted to park for.

I went to the machine and tried 5 or 6 times to get the machine to accept the pound which it wouldn't do and kept spitting it back out. I ended up going back to the car and getting another pound to buy the ticket.

How easy would it be to have a QR code on the ticket machine for the length of stay. Scan the code, get your ticket. Done.

That would be really awesome , parking tickets and fines are too much and the more hassle is waiting for them in line .
If only all that could happen through bitcoin , so easy and Great

273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending without transactionn fees on: March 04, 2015, 06:12:37 PM
Any I saw many transactions without fees and still getting confirmed.
How is that possible and how can I actually do it?

Every transaction has a "priority" calcuated by the value, confirmations of its inputs, and transaction size. If you mature some coins long enough and transaction size is below 1k, you can send it for free. The theory says you rest 1 btc for 1 day, you can send it for free. In practice, it's not that simple. Don't try it if you are not sure, attach a fee and have peace of mind.

Never knew this , so let us suppose if a address like this

https://blockchain.info/address/1CFBdvaiZgZPTZERqnezAtDQJuGHKoHSzg

ever gets active and decides to send the coin , he /she/they can send it without fees and still get it confirmed ?

275  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fair Price of Bitcoin: $518? on: March 04, 2015, 06:03:36 PM
What actually do you/they consider as fair price ?
The price is always fair with one person's perspective but it will never be fair as same .
If you're looking for fair price , just put some in paper wallet for a year or two .
if you use them for buying/selling/trading , it's always fair price .

January 13 wasn't a Friday but it certainly was a horror, that was the day BTC changed directions from a full year of negativity to a new year of hope.

It's about time isn't it?

Never had looked at the chart , it is amazing indeed.
Though price seems stable since last day and that is god news , we actually took a pump of 50$ and resting there , hope it doesn't go down Smiley

279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's year 2050 and Bitcoin is the world currency... on: March 04, 2015, 05:53:20 PM
From the Bitcoin Wiki:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/FAQ#But_if_no_more_coins_are_generated.2C_what_happens_when_Bitcoins_are_lost.3F_Won.27t_that_be_a_problem.3F

Quote
But if no more coins are generated, what happens when Bitcoins are lost? Won't that be a problem?
Because of the law of supply and demand, when fewer bitcoins are available the ones that are left will be in higher demand, and therefore will have a higher value. So, as Bitcoins are lost, the remaining bitcoins will eventually increase in value to compensate. As the value of a bitcoin increases, the number of bitcoins required to purchase an item decreases. This is a deflationary economic model. As the average transaction size reduces, transactions will probably be denominated in sub-units of a bitcoin such as millibitcoins ("Millies") or microbitcoins ("Mikes").

The Bitcoin protocol uses a base unit of one hundred-millionth of a Bitcoin ("a Satoshi"), but unused bits are available in the protocol fields that could be used to denote even smaller subdivisions.

That should answer your question.

What if coins are lost for some reason and we (general population) is not aware of the loss. Lets say it was an uber rich family and for some reason they lost 80% of their coins due to stupidity and they didn't tell anyone for fear of xyz.
It will be noticed in due time. The 5milBTC wouldn't move. I'm sure somebody will find it and just sit and watch it.

It's not about fear , We can always see the blockchain address and people are desperate , if someone have that many bitcoin in single address or multiple and they won't move for a month or over , people will start noticing eventually and the price will keep rising.
Though if we think of it ! that will be 25% of the coins that will be destroyed , so price can go much much higher.

Will we as a society decide to "replace" these coins and put more back into circulation?

That's not possible to replace these coins , you cannot just put more in the blockchain , that will be a fake blockchain and no one will mine on it , so they just become less available and price increases

280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending without transactionn fees on: March 04, 2015, 05:47:12 PM
That's true for big transactions.
Let's suppose you are sending 0.03 btc to someone , so generally you pay 0.0001 as transaction fees , but i sometimes crop it to half i.e. 0.00005 and still get same confirmation time, though it is not recommended and before you use them , Remember that they might take some days to pass

In general, paying a fee of 0.00005 per kb is the same as paying nothing. However, each miner sets their own fee policy, so some miners might choose a transaction paying 0.00005 per kb over a transaction paying no fee.

Though that might be true , but for small transaction which are mostly in bytes i never pay 0.0001 fees but 0.00005 and the confirmation time is same as other

That is pretty interesting but seeing how the transaction is in bytes , it's no wonder that works .
Have you tried it for bigger transaction ?
BTW just wondering , what do you do saving 0.00005 btc ? Undecided
