2601  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Alternative to Armory? on: January 10, 2016, 10:56:32 PM
With all this rapid development of bitcoin core I am really concern to keep  my funds in Armory any longer

After the drama to make transactions with .11 core  its obvious there is no  development  and Armory wont be updated to cope  with whatever expected changes coming to bitcooin; segwit, block incise hardforks , BIP's, softforks, script versions changes,  confidential transactions an so on.

I am rally looking for alternative.

I think you might be giving up on Armory prematurely but I understand your concern. Are you looking for a fully validating node wallet or a hardware wallet like Trezor?
2602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Android Bitcoin wallet app that supports fingerprint authentication. on: January 10, 2016, 02:46:23 AM
Is there any android bitcoin wallet app that supports fingerprint authentication?? Huh Roll Eyes Shocked

If you need fingerprint authorization the Case Hardware wallet is what you are looking for. I have one from the first production run and it is sweet. The site says sold out but customer service told me they expect to be back on sale later this month.
2603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Noob- Help needed! on: January 08, 2016, 07:49:34 PM
I really want to buy Bitcoins, but i donīt feel safe doing it. Iīve been reading a lot in the past months, but still feeling unsafe to buy. I would like to know if you guys could give me a step by step on how to buy it, how it works, how safe it is, what would be a safe way to buy and store it and so on. Thanks in advance for any help!

If you do not feel safe doing something you should not do it. Take your time and learn about bitcoin until you understand how it works. Bitcoin.org is a good start read the whole website (no cheating:)
2604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The best buy right now is not Bitcoin, it is ALTCOINS on: January 08, 2016, 05:47:38 PM
Try telling that to someone who lost money on Paycoin or Cloak. Majority of altcoins are pump and dumps designed to profit the developer. A very few, like litecoin and Monero are useful. I think you can make more money concentrating on bitcoin. Either buy and hold or learn to trade.
2605  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Keepkey Hardware Review (Developer Version) on: January 07, 2016, 09:28:57 PM
KeepKey is a fork of Trezor but the ability to use it with a wallet on a phone is not here yet. KeepKey only works with their Chrome extension, Electrum and Multibit.

Here is a very good thread on reddit discussing relative security of Ledger, Trezor, and KeepKey: https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/3w81k1/securitywise_is_there_really_any_difference/

KeepKey is considered more secure than Trezor, with Ledger least secure. The advantage KeepKey has over Trezor is the way recovery is handled as talked about in this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3e6ir3/eli5_how_devices_like_trezor_legder_keepkey_can/

Trezor recovery method using 24 words has 80 bits of entropy while KeepKey using 12 words has 111 bits of entropy. The recovery process is so secure the KeepKey developer is using it as a selling point, telling users that you can use the KeepKey when needed then just wipe the device after each use. Recover when needed again. Very interesting.

2606  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: January 07, 2016, 03:03:42 PM
The trezor is compatible with several altcoins, such as litecoin, namecoin and dogecoin. Can these coins be stored on the device with btc simultaneously?

How does the recovery process work for the altcoins? Do you also get a 24 word seed for those keys?

I think Encompass wallet with Trezor is what you need: http://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-apps/encompass.html

Hi Davide,

your payout seem to be ok.
you can get a rough estimate on www.coinwarz.com
insert there your x11 hashrate, scroll down to START or DASH coin -> there you will see the rough estimate from mining. due you are converting this in other cryptocurrencies, you have to make the conversion as well.

Best regards,
Helmut

Hi Davide,
no, when you check out the site a gave you, you will see that you need currently 5900 days to earn one BTC.
or will earn per day currently
0.00015638 BTC / day
then you need to backcalculate the BTC to the DASH exchange rate, currently 0.00574 BTC/DASH. then you get your DASH
I know this is complicated, but this in the nature of cryptocurrency.
We try to be transparent as much as possible to our customers.

And you will have on the major website ours nice conversation! so people should start to think about you!

I will start from bitcointalk!

Thanks

Merry Crysthmas to everyone!

Sorry for your loss. Consider how you would feel if you had invested several thousand dollars? Genesis Minining is legitimate, meaning they have the hashing power they claim to have, they just charge more than the competition and there is no out for you ... once you own Genesis Mining hash you cannot sell it. When halving comes next summer all the contracts currently being sold will have fees greater than revenue, will be underwater and cancelled. That is when the lawsuits will begin.

If you need to buy hosted mining buy from a company that has an exchange you can sell your hash on at any time if you change your mind. Hashnest is a good choice. You do need to be careful what contract you buy though. This close to the block halving I would only be buying S7 hashing power. The other options will likely be underwater and cancelled after the halving. Knowing Hashnest I also expect they will have a new option better than S7 come this summer.

Looks like Coolwallet is finally for sale $119 http://shop.coolbitx.com

I would read the review at http://cointelegraph.com/news/115837/coolwallet-the-bitcoin-wallet-that-fits-right-into-your-wallet before buying one.
2609  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: January 06, 2016, 03:15:18 AM
If you can afford the sync time and the bandwidth and the disk  space, go for the core, the less error prone wallet around

If you have a paper wallet you could use it with most wallet's.   That is the beauty of paper wallet's.  As long as you don't spend them do it right you are secure and can use many different wallets.

If you need use I really have switched more to hardware.  Depending on your holdings I really suggest people looking at them.

Most users do not want to have to maintain a full node. If you are going to use a web wallet you may as well use Coinbase with 2FA enabled.

Paper wallets seem like a good idea but you really have to know what you are doing if you spend from one. There have been way too many stories of users losing bitcoin because they do not understand how change addresses work.

For less than $20 you can buy a Ledger HW.1 for use on your laptop. Download the Ledger Wallet Mobile App to your phone and you do not need to use the security card. Two years ago if you wanted a hardware wallet you had to use Armory on two computers, one always kept offline.
2610  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: January 05, 2016, 06:53:12 PM
Isn't this an unnecessary attack vector for the relatively minor convenience of not needing to re-enter the mnemonic?

Trezor's security model is that the 24 word mnemonic is only to be used for recovery in the event of a doom's day apocalypse scenario

Is it possible to purchase a trezor that always wipes the mnemonic when the firmware is upgraded?

There is a Trezor clone which uses a scrambled keyboard mnemonic recovery method which is safe to use even on a compromised PC, such that one advertised usage case is to wipe the device's flash in between uses, and recover to spend each time.

For the terminally curious AussieHash is referring to a reddit discussion you can read here. Here is the quote:

Quote
On KeepKey, you don't even need to store your private key on the device. The recovery process is secure enough, that you can use it only as a transactional device for your paper (recovery sentence) wallet. Then just wipe the device after each use.

Genesis Mining app is not available in all countries. Hashnest also has phone apps btw.
2612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll to determine most popular ways to use bitcoin cold storage on: January 04, 2016, 07:55:26 PM
I think you are forgetting the possibility of printing a paper wallet with BIP38 encryption and wrapped on plastic as another way to store Bitcoins that you don't intend to use for long periods of time. A lot of people seem to be doing this.

I added the option of voting for a paper wallet. I personally do not care for them and blogged my reasons why.
2613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Poll to determine most popular ways to use bitcoin cold storage on: January 04, 2016, 03:52:44 PM
There are enough options for bitcoin cold storage on the market now a poll to determine the most popular seemed an interesting idea. The days of being limited to using Armory or Electrum with two computers is over, with several convenient options available from $20 to $249. Which do you use?
2614  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Wallet on: January 04, 2016, 03:15:45 PM
Already discussed many times. The better question is which bitcoin wallet is most secure?
2615  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: January 03, 2016, 01:07:37 AM

I believe Trezor is the most secure option of the hardware wallets. The screen is a big plus. Trezor does show your sending address on the screen and asks you twice to confirm the transaction before it sends. In terms of authentication you will have to enter your PIN and also passphrase if you passphrase protected the account.

I know that. But at the same time Ledger Wallet is also having high security measures of 2FA since you cannot send money until you either confirm a transaction via smartphone or input the custom authentication codes from the separate offline card given in the package.

So which one is best among the two now?

I would consider confirmation via smartphone the more secure option if you are using Ledger.
2616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of Increasingly Sophisticated Malware Infection Attempts on: January 02, 2016, 04:48:58 PM
Well, BTC hardware wallet protection starts to be very complicated, because trojans, worms also are more developed. Only Linux can help, I think  Wink

Just get a Trezor for your bitcoin. Your private keys will then be safe offline and Trezor works with Windows, Linux and OS X 10.8+
2617  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: XTnodes.com: Added support for Bitcoin Unlimited. See the number of BU nodes & b on: January 02, 2016, 04:45:55 AM
Do people still support this thing? I thought it was clear now that the changes proposed in Bitcoin XT would centralize nodes to a ridiculous unnecessary level. It has been tested that 2 MB is the best we can do for now, 8 is just nonsense, not to mention Hearn's involvement in R3 and all the anti-Tor stuff.

Bitcoin Unlimited is a fork from Core.  The similarity it shares with XT is just that it too sets the version bits in the block headers to vote for BIP101.  However, BU nodes will accept blocks > 1 MB today; while XT nodes won't accept blocks > 1 MB until 2 weeks after 750 of the last 1000 blocks vote for BIP101.

Hi Peter,

If Bitcoin Unlimited is based on Core how can it accept blocks greater than 1 MB today? Is not the 1 MB limit hard coded thus requiring a hard fork to increase? Thanks!
2618  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: January 01, 2016, 11:26:50 PM
I'm confused between Trezor, Ledgerwallet HW1 and Goochain Citadelle. Which one is the most secure and cannot be hacked at all? Which one uses more than one authentication at a time for a single transaction?

I have seen some links in OP are not working and some are already sold out or abandoned. For eg; CryptoLabs "Case", https://mycelium.com/bitcoincard and Ledger wallet. It needs to get updated.

I believe Trezor is the most secure option of the hardware wallets. The screen is a big plus. Trezor does show your sending address on the screen and asks you twice to confirm the transaction before it sends. In terms of authentication you will have to enter your PIN and also passphrase if you passphrase protected the account.

I am also a fan of the Case Wallet and use mine about as often as the Trezor. The website shows sold out but customer service told me they are planning another production run this month. My favorite product from Ledger is the Unplugged contactless NFC card.
2619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you like Android or ios for mobile Bitcoin transactions? on: January 01, 2016, 09:05:49 PM
Phones are so much less secure than laptops if you are going to send bitcoin by phone you really should keep your private keys offline, no ifs, no buts, no coconuts:) Your best option is to use Mycelium Wallet on Android holding your private keys on a Trezor or a Ledger Unplugged NFC card. iPhone users are SOL but they knew that when they bought the phone.
2620  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving already 100% priced in! Would you buy or sell now? on: January 01, 2016, 08:56:18 PM
Personally I do not think the halving has been priced in yet at current prices. Bitcoin is still well above the 200 week SMA which is at $260 today. I think we may see $400 once again and I would be a buyer at that level. I am optimistic for 2016 and expect to see $690 later in the year.
