2621  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: usb graphics card mining on: February 23, 2015, 10:58:47 PM
no one is talking about scrypt or ASIC's. I already have a pci-e enclosure with GPU's and am once again tinkering

Not talking to you, talking to the OP:

Any chance of mining on a usb graphics card?
Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-USB-3-0-to-VGA-Video-Graphic-Card-Multi-Display-Cable-Adapter-/310723313040?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item48588d7d90
Any other way that I can mine scrypt via usb?

I have only a laptop so true graphics card mining (i.e. a pci-e graphics card) is not an option at the moment. I know USB ASIC miners exist, but only for SHA-256, and most SHA-256 coins are difficult to make a profit from due to all the ASIC miners out there.
Any usb miners for Scrypt?
Thanks

In case you didn't notice, that OP was posted in Oct 2013...

Yea, just noticed the necro, thanks.

2623  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Pizza for bitcoins? on: February 23, 2015, 10:46:36 PM
This place looks like a sacred topic... lol.

Well a million dollar pizza is what makes it sacred Tongue

As per now price
10k btc = 2.4 mil usd
So for his two pizza's that means
1.2 mil a pizza ?
Damn!

BTC peaked at around $1,240 in Dec 2013 (BTC10,000 x $1,240 = $12.4mil)
This would have made them $6.2mil each back then  Shocked
Today's price is still epic but in December 2013 it's unreal!!

 Shocked Shocked
$6.2 mil each
That's even more messed up
Poor guy laszlo

Believe me if laszlo or any of us had a Hot Tub Time Machine we'd all buy all Bitcoins existence in 2009 before that 2013 bubble.

Unfortunately(Fortunately?), that's how hindsight works.  Don't worry for him or for us, we'll get there and beyond, just need a bit more marinating and cooking in the dev/invest/adopt kitchen.
2624  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: usb graphics card mining on: February 23, 2015, 10:36:58 PM
There do exist USB Scrypt Asic miners if that's what you're looking for.

None that will result in profit obviously.
2625  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: Predict all-year high of 2015 on: February 23, 2015, 10:12:10 PM
Voted for $750-$1500, just as a pure guess.  Realistically, we'll have to surpass $400 first, since we're still in this $350-$400 sideways pattern.

Once we break this $400 price again and the COIN ETF launches all bets are off.

So far this first quarter I've been WAAYYYYY OFF!   Cry

NO fear, I stick to my word for better of worse, as we still have alot of good things in the pipeline that could potentially give us the price spike we need.

Have yet to see the NY Bitlicense pass, the aftermath of the 50000 BTC SR auction, the Gemini launch, the COIN ETF launch, and more and more to come.
2626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoiners are Mentally Ill? on: February 23, 2015, 10:04:57 PM
If Bitcoin makes a person mentally ill, count me in as crazy for cocoa puffs!

Then again, one could make the argument I was deranged before Crypto took a hold of me.   Cheesy
2627  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: usb graphics card mining on: February 23, 2015, 09:57:48 PM
USB graphics card mining?  Sure, first you'd need to.....UHM NOPE.

Sorry to say, you'd need an actual graphics card with a GPU to even mine the lowest difficulty alt coin, let alone Bitcoin.

The days of home mining on your home PC for anything greater than dust amounts is pretty much over.

You need something like this to even compete:

It really isn't a level playing ground unless you have mining farm access.  Cheap ASIC equipment, cheap electricity, cheap hosting facility, the whole niner.
2628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bill Gates Interview - Bitcoin is Better than Currency on: February 23, 2015, 08:10:31 PM
I don't really see or get all the hate for Bill Gates.  If it weren't him pushing personal computing and Windows GUI in the 80s and 90s, users of Linux and MAC OS'es would still be the in the dinosaur text based age.

I have to remind you that GUI was Xerox's invention and it was Steve Jobs who was among the first to see the potential of Xerox mouse-driven graphical user interface (read about the Apple Lisa). And that was years before Windows.

Semantics, both Jobs and Gates ripped off Xerox template.  Gates took PC's to the next level with Windows 95, and soon after everyone followed suit, even Apple.  Jobs and Gates with all their differences, actually collaborated quite a bit during the early years.

You can't just dispute Gates historical importance.  His ability to break ground for the PC both for home and business was unparalleled, and helped bring technology to where it is today.

I beg to differ. It was IBM actually who was behind the scenes. It had been their decision about opening IBM PC's specification that "broke ground for the PC both for home and business". And once again I have to remind you that Windows 95 should have been IBM's OS/2 but for Bill Gates' treachery (at the times of Windows 3.0).

Ehh, I'm not really reading about any treachery on Gates part.  It seems OS/2 was IBM's own fault and demise:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS/2

Basically IBM's vision of OS/2 wanted to close source it strictly to IBM machines, and Gates wanted Windows 3.0 to be an open hardware OS, independent of manufacturer.  Also Windows 3.0 was more device driver friendly,  more future proof, and application friendly than OS/2.

Gates didn't hijack, sabotage, or steal anything from IBM.  They had a business relationship, they had a strategic differences, and they parted ways soon after.  IBM screwed themselves in this regard, OS/2 was closed off and blew chunks, and them failing had nothing to do with Gates.

IBM and Microsoft signed a joint development agreement in 1985 to co-develop OS/2 as a DOS successor, which the latter broke in 1990. The primary reason was popularity of Windows, which at that time was a simple graphical add-on to DOS, inferior to OS/2 but easy to use and compatible with the huge base of legacy DOS software. It was sheer profit from Windows that made Gates break the agreement with IBM, not their "strategic differences" or whatever else is written in Wikipedia.

You're letting your unwarranted hate for Gates cloud reality dude.  IBM has always been IBM's worst enemy, not Gates.  Instead of trying to fault Gates for the downfall of IBM's OS business, see history for what it is.  IBM is always behind the tech curve when it comes to innovation and opening it's architecture behind closed doors:

http://www.nasdaq.com/article/4-ibm-blunders-that-gave-big-blues-competition-the-edge-nyse-ibm-cm443432

They basically handed the OS monopoly to Bill Gates, they have no one to blame but themselves...

Okay I'll do OP's job for him/her.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-headlines-bad-news-fatigue/

Man, can't we just catch a break from all these tiring headlines of hacks and thefts and bad actors.  Price continues to slope downward yada yada yada.

Things are so bleak, it's like we're becoming so numb from all the bad press.

What are your guys thoughts?  Is the continuous bad news taking it's toll on you also?

....See was that so hard?

2635  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: wordpress removes bitcoin payment option on: February 23, 2015, 06:25:23 PM
We need to encourage use of Bitcoin not just trade or hoard. All of us should use Bitcoin everywhere we can instead of fiat and that would most possibly speed up bitcoin race to becoming mainstream payment processor. If wordpress had lot of bitcoin income they would not remove that option.

No.  What you should do is convince others to buy Bitcoin.
If each one of us just convinced two people (friends/family/unattended children) to buy Bitcoin, the price would skyrocket because math.

Lamby encouraging people to buy Bitcoin?!!?    Shocked

Now I've seen it all here in Bitcointalk...
2636  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: February 23, 2015, 06:20:54 PM
This thread just reminds me of the wealthy elite thread that's still ongoing:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=12156.0

Elites and Non-Elites can get in Bitcoin together now.  Once that happens, we're all considered "Wealthy Elite"!
2637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: February 23, 2015, 06:06:10 PM
Bitcoin just like dollars will always be for everyone. Some people will always have more of both dollars and bitcoin. With that, they will exert more control. I guess you could say Bitcoin is for both the new elite and everyone, not just one or the other.

Are you saying that the elite is not part of everyone?

Yes they are, but everyone is not a member of the elite.

Then you can't pick “just one or the other”, as you said. Either it's for the elite, or it's for everyone (including the elite).

Here, I'll settle your argument for both of you.

Elite = 1%
Everyone = Elite 1% + Non-Elite 99%

So not everyone is part of the 1%, but for Bitcoin, it applies to the 100%.
2638  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: wordpress removes bitcoin payment option on: February 23, 2015, 05:58:02 PM
Bitcoin and Crypto in general is still a very experimental unproven currency and payment option.

BS. It's very well tested and proven.

How so?  I want Bitcoin to succeed as much as the next person, but it's not quite on the same playing field as fiat or the credit card companies as a payment methods.

Bitcoin is nowhere near as fast as fiat or credit/debit cards for microtransactions, and for larger payments...well you have the wait for those confirmation times.  I know credit/debit cards fully process in a few days, and there's always for chargebacks etc.  That said, Bitcoin just isn't that fast as them when it comes to point of sale.

A few that come to mind are Bitcoin Girl, Naomi Brockwell:
