Leave the self-moderation but don't delete the deleted posts completely (make them like the ones from ignored people)

That's actually a great idea. Only defendable use of self-moderation would be to visually stop useless spam. And your idea gets job done. Hide the post with option of un-hide.

Other implementation of moderation could be downvoting, but I doubt this would work in this environment, and even more doubt that someone will be bothered enough to implement that.

Ya, I dont think that +1, -1 wouldnt work. Otherwise it would just turn into a Q+A system.
2642  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think any of the other "alt" currencies will overtake bitcoin? on: December 17, 2013, 12:44:18 AM
Something that scales to millions of transactions per second and has easy/cheap transfers of vending-machine size transactions  is gonna win.  But whatever it is (and it might even be a redesign of Bitcoin), it won't work exactly like Bitcoin works now.

millions of transactions per second is 100.000x more than Bitcoin can handle with 1 MB block.
Bitcoin is store of value instead, like gold

Maybe the Core team should improve that to allow many more per block.

All what is need is increasing block size, so one line change I guess

No, why not make everything more efficient rather than increasing the block size. That would be better than using the lazy way to fix it.

But you cant compress the transactions much, it is almost like recompressing the same file again

Huh I dont seem to follow you. They could make it so that after block x the compression is different.

@nahtnam : you can in fact Edit the poll no worry.
@sergios : thank you  Wink

No, actually I dont think you are allowed to EDIT the poll to allow changes after it has been created.
2644  Other / Meta / Re: Petition: disable 'self-moderation' on: December 17, 2013, 12:40:13 AM
I love self moderation, but keep it so that people have to contact a mod if they want to make a self moderation thread.
2645  Other / Meta / Re: Allow users to change vote in polls on: December 17, 2013, 12:38:59 AM
It has to be put in when the poll is first made though.
That would be great to change that
Kinda sure it's ultra low priority for theymos though

Ya, but it would be great if it was implemented.

I also need help for promoting my page. I don't know where should I post it to get more visitors? Any suggestions on that?

Find a site that is viewed a lot but has no advertisers. Its a win win for both. I think landofbitcoin had a really good spot but it got taken.

Of course you should know, but to all newbies this is what a long con is:

A person basically devotes a long time (1 year or so) to get trust, but leaves with A LOT of money.

How is hard to get the "simple" trust

EXTREMELY hard. I have spent 6 months on this forum and have no trust yet. Of course if you buy and sell items you will get trust faster, but its not "simple" at all.

Thanks for clearing!!

Does you know from where comes the "long con" expression? What means "con"? . Thanks again..

Reliably buying and selling is the fastest way to gain Trust and Rep.

You got it right. First use escrow, and as you become more and more reliable, people will trust you enough not to use escrow.

Thanks also for your tips

Definition:

Cons are usually short but take less money, where as long cons take a long time but are usually with high payout.

We (the BitVegas Staff) haven't seen him either. The last thing I heard from him was that he had to take care of some personal business. Please be patient.

You work at bitvegas? If you can please let him know to check out the tread when he comes online.
Yes, I am one of the admins. We will notify him as soon as he gets online.

Thats great. Do you get paid as a bit vegas admin?
2651  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Everyone doing cryptocoins should be using Linux as OS on: December 17, 2013, 12:29:44 AM
Linux alone will not save you. You must know how to set it up properly + how to behave on internet

Obviously but it's better if most of the hackers don't target your os  Roll Eyes

But if the linux becomes ultimate mainstream for all things bitcoin then it will be target #1

Also with all those distros floating around - temptation is high to inject some malware into some smaller distro. Or some essential piece of software on github. No risk of that in a windows/mac.

Also I've recently tried latest xubuntu for one of my miners, and was surprised that it needs 5+ gb space, and could not do networking out of the box. Linux driver support sucks. There's no one to work on the kernel for free.

With ubuntu, ALL of the drivers (except for some windows only stuff) work!

Linux users are lucky since windows is an easier target.

There isn't a need for millions of transactions per second anyway. Not for many years to come

Unless BTC overtakes usd there is no way its going to get close. How many transactions per second are happening right now?

2656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can the U.S. government sell seized bitcoins? on: December 17, 2013, 12:15:34 AM
They [edit: they = the FBI] already moved them (so they have the keys).  Some are here:

http://blockchain.info/address/1F1tAaz5x1HUXrCNLbtMDqcw6o5GNn4xqX

The rest are here:

https://blockchain.info/address/1FfmbHfnpaZjKFvyi1okTjJJusN455paPH

So, by moving the coins and consolidating them they have been shown to own them.

This may not be all of them but it is the BTC that the FBI has found so far.
Sir, by the way, who is owner account above?!?  Grin
AFAIK both of the above accounts are owned by the FBI.  In other words the FBI has the private keys to these two accounts.

FBI should give the private keys to central bank, so US could get Bitcoin reserve for future.
United States pawns everything

Whats funny is that people keep on donating to the addresses, and have a public note with advertisements! Cheesy

The best option is to just modify bitcoin to improve the bad parts of it.

Yes, make sure you have 2 factor installed for EVERYTHING and your phone is on you at all times. One bad habbit I used to do (which is highly unsafe) was that I put phone numbers as my google voice so I only have to login to my email which makes it easy to hack. Now I have all phone numbers linked to my google voice account, BUT I put 2 factor on my email and I have 10 spare keys on a peivce of paper just in case my phone runs out of battery.
2660  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Everyone doing cryptocoins should be using Linux as OS on: December 16, 2013, 06:20:27 PM
The point is that we should be able to understand that as Windows is needed to run Photoshop and play games, Linux is needed to handle your wallets and other important stuff. So, make a dual boot and access the os you want.

I did that for a long time but now I just cannot boot other thing that my Debian 7.

Regarding the "enter linux complexity" story. We all went through that. We learned to think and understand computer tasks using
the Windows methods so its natural to be a little confused at the begining.

There is a big reward for those that keep trying till they get things working though!

Linux is beautiful, you just need to get there ...

I completely agree with you. I have windows 7/windows 8/Ubuntu all on the same computer and a spare Mac.
