2641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins hit Africa's money transfer traditions on: February 23, 2015, 04:47:21 PM
They don't need internet connection or smart phones... as mentioned towers are not a problem
How are they supossed to do anything without internet connection? I dont get it.

Look up "Bitcoin via SMS". If you have questions, read about it...

Yup, transmitting over existing networks isn't a problem.  They already have towers in place from using M Pesa:

Transitioning to Bitcoin services similar to Bitpesa wouldn't be an issue.

2643  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: wordpress removes bitcoin payment option on: February 23, 2015, 04:26:54 PM
Bitcoin and Crypto in general is still a very experimental unproven currency and payment option.  I don't blame Wordpress if they just were testing the waters, to see if it were a viable payment method.  I'm sure sales were lacking, so they decided to pull the plug.

If and when Bitcoin reaches that point where it makes sense to add Bitcoin as a proper payment option, I'm sure you'll see it in their blog or it'll just reappear at checkout once again.

For now, we just have to wait patiently, and let Bitcoin grow.  'Tis still a little sprout.

2644  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Kipcoin lost 3000 btc and shutdown on: February 23, 2015, 04:16:36 PM
To be perfectly honest, this is the first I've ever heard of Kipcoin.

3000BTC is a whole lot of moolah, but small potatoes if you compare it to Gox, BitStamp, Mycoin hacks.

Just goes to show you not to keep a whole lot of your stash online on centralized wallet services.  Not sure why you'd need to use Kipcoin to trade on exchanges instead of funding exchanges directly, but that's a whole other discussion.
2645  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just a friendly advice for the new guys on: February 23, 2015, 03:28:25 PM
I assume that, when all of us first heard of bitcoins and started reading about it, all of us made our first few satoshis on some faucet like freebitco.in or any other, and everything was like "I'm gonna make so much bitcoins with this!". But when you use if for some time and get a little bit more into bitcoin, you'll see that that amount you've collected over a week or so, is barely worth a penny.
So here's the advice, when you first come here and read all about them faucets, don't get your hopes up (like I did) thinking you will make something out of it. Owners of those faucets are the only ones who will profit. Faucets are there just in the beginning to help you see what it's like to receive, own, send bitcoins and how to use your wallet.

Use the faucets, see how it feels to have bitcoins but don't expect anything more than that.

Good words of advice for the newbie reading up on and learning about Bitcoin.  I've actually used faucets a looooong time ago as well, not so much to accumulate or get wealthy, but just to learn how Bitcoin works, sending the dust amounts to my address, and so forth.

Once I've read up and learned as much as possible, I stopped going to faucet sites, as spending hours and hours of wasteful time, didn't make sense for getting pennies in return.

Only time faucets were worthwhile was when Gavin gave up over 10000BTC from the first faucet at 5 BTC per visitor, but back then it was worth zilch.  Imagine if you got a few hundred and somehow held on to them.   Smiley

2646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Everything Be Decentralized? on: February 23, 2015, 03:14:38 PM
No, not everything should be decentralized.  Bitcoin, the currency and protocol, itself is inherently decentralized, but doesn't mean the applications, systems, and companies surrounding Bitcoin has to be decentralized.

IE Coinbase, Circle, BitPay, Gemini, COIN ETF all being centralized companies or services, but support Bitcoin the currency/protocol.

It doesn't have to be an absolute thing, it can be a hybrid give and take system.
2647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin insurance ever be a reality? on: February 23, 2015, 03:01:38 PM
New upcoming Bitcoin exchange Gemini is fully insured:

https://blog.gemini.com/welcome-to-gemini/

Quote
We are also thrilled to announce that we have secured a banking relationship with a New York State-chartered bank. This means that your money will never leave the country. It also means that US dollars on Gemini will be eligible for FDIC insurance and held by a US-regulated bank. Your US dollars on Gemini will be as safe and secure as they are in your bank account today.

Your Bitcoin on Gemini exchange will be fully insured in the appropriate US dollar amount.
2648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin For Flight Tickets? on: February 23, 2015, 02:57:09 PM
The guy in the CNN documentary used a webpage to buy plane tickets, lookit up.

Yup, Morgan Spurlock buys a flight to Rochester on CheapAir.com using Bitcoin:

This was on CNN Inside Man, link below:

2649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CNN Inside Man bitcoin episode review! Share your opinions! on: February 23, 2015, 02:48:25 PM
Like the old saying goes....there's no such thing as bad publicity, and this was a very fair and unbiased piece.
(and it had NXT in it  Grin )

This film should be shared with everyone who asks: What is crypto-currency ?
NXT made an appareance? Where? I dont remember them talking about any alt, not even Litecoin.

I believe they're talking about the shirt:

Heres a couple of links:

Video in HD:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCzKR6iHrn4

Story on CCN:
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/cnn-show-inside-man-morgan-spurlock-lived-bitcoin-week/

I liked the show overall, gave a good no-bs view of Bitcoin. It was filmed in July of last year, though, so does feel a bit out of date.

The best bit is here, however, at the 6.00 minute mark:

Sneaky NXT promotion rules!

Even though that guy is wearing a NXT T shirt he doesn't even talk about NXT, just helps Morgan setup the Bitcoin wallet on his mobile phone.

SO yea...no mention of NXT whatsoever in this documentary piece.

2651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NYC residents are being robbed of their Bitcoin! on: February 23, 2015, 02:36:33 PM
Easy fix. Open carry and trade in a public place with lots of cameras. Criminals are stupid but they aren't that stupid.

Since NY citizens don't have the same rights as normal people (and can't carry the tools required to protect themselves), I suggest they trade in the police station lobby.

The gif is funny Cheesy

Anyways it's quite easy to avoid these circumstances , just deal in a public place and don't carry much in single wallet
But if you're out of luck , you will get robbed anyway Undecided

By the looks of it that guy had his femoral artery or vein slashed and is bleeding out all over his leg and the ground. I wouldn't consider that funny at all. I honestly hope the guy lived...

Femoral artery?!!!  Geez way to take a gif WAAYYYYY out of context, dude!   Cheesy

The guy is clearing pissing himself, touching his wallet with pee, and touching the dollars in the wallet with pee, thus disgusting the robber in the process.

Whoops. Almost thought this was about the Winklevii when I saw that topic title...

Hey, at least we know where your mind is at!   Grin

Bet you'd like them to row row row their boat down your stream...
2653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hacking,hacked,lost everywhere?!!!! on: February 23, 2015, 02:15:33 PM
People need to stop trusting others with their coins and adopt better security. Most people never lose any coins and decentralized exchanges will put a stop to large thefts which is the way we need to go.

How many decentralized exchanges are there? And how many of them are reliable? Right now, Bitcoin is in its infancy. These problems will persist for many more years. There is no easy shortcut to avoid these issues.

Honestly I've only heard 2 real Decentralized exchanges that are forthcoming, so until this is the norm, centralized BTC and Crypto exchanges rule the roost.

These 2:

http://www.coinffeine.com/

https://bitsquare.io/

Don't see these 2 launching or lifting off anytime soon, so decentralized exchanges aren't really an option for the majority of traders.
2654  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: February 23, 2015, 02:03:04 PM
Not really spending much Bitcoin anymore.  I have bought Antminers, Dragons, physical Bitcoins etc...but haven't really used it on day to day items.

Trying to hoard, accumulate, and HODL like a muthaf#cka!

Don't forget Silver and Gold Wallets!  They're pretty secure in their own right.

And they're pretty!!!

http://www.silverwallets.com/

Definitely good conversation pieces, and great for long term wallet storage.
those silver wallets do look pretty cool! i was just reading on their site, and i think they would be pretty secure as long as you generate your wallets on a safe offline pc, and keep the coin in a safe place too.

Yes, SilverWallets.com basically use https://www.bitaddress.org to generate the offline paper wallets.

If you're interested in them, I'm sure you can PM nightowlace or Blazedout419 here in the forum, to get your hands on one.
thanks for the info, i think i'll probably pass on it for now. looks like it would cost around 0.34 btc to buy a normal silver wallet, which would be a big chunk of my current btc balance.  Sad

Lower priced coins, but still pretty are the Cryptolator series coins.  If search hard enough, I'm sure you could get these for 0.1 BTC or lower.  Here's a recent auction on them:

2656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting paid for signature space? on: February 23, 2015, 01:42:58 PM
i'm curious with some elder / hero member that offered their siggy space to advertiser
is one of them get a contract from advertisers?
I mean some user who create a thread, and offered their siggy space. not join available signature campaign

Most signature campaigns don't offer a premium for Hero members, or don't offer thing that some people might want. So people open the topic trying to get better offers
Most of the campaigns I've seen offer higher pay rates for Hero members compared to Seniors or lower. However, it seems that Hero and Legendary accounts often have the same pay rates in signature campaigns, even though it takes much longer to reach Legendary rank than it does to become a Hero member.

That's true for most campaigns, that there's no real difference between Senior/Hero/Legendary on payout structure.

Only certain ones, like Bit-X for example, actually make it worthwhile with their pay per post payout scale:

Quote
For every qualifying post you make throughout the next month, BIT-X.com will pay you the following rates (per qualifying post) based on your membership level:

Staff                                                   0.0014BTC
Legendary & Hero Members            0.0012BTC
Senior Members         0.001BTC
Full Members         0.0008BTC

Also, they add a 0.1BTC Bonus for finishing in the top 10 posters in a month, so they're rather generous.

2658  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: February 23, 2015, 01:31:22 PM
So far I've used LocalBitcoins, Cryptsy, BTC-E, and Coinbase to exchange Crypto into another crypto, fiat into BTC, or BTC into Fiat.  Not day trading though.

For that, I'll eagerly await Gemini's launch.
2659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: February 23, 2015, 01:27:57 PM
Right now, 99.9% of the world population are unable to use the Bitcoin, because they are not tech savvy enough. Storage of Bitcoin is risky, and prone to robbery and hacks. So, until this problem is solved, BTC is not for everyone.

I think in even in the poorest and underdeveloped of nations, Bitcoin solves several of these hurdles, regardless of technical prowess.

M Pesa proves this in Kenya and Tanzania, and they've been transacting with this since 2007 on regular text phones.  With the smartphones getting cheaper and cheaper, and repurposing the same towers they use in Africa, the transition to Bitcoin shouldn't that difficult:

https://www.bitpesa.co/

Bitpesa is the next natural progression.
2660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bill Gates Interview - Bitcoin is Better than Currency on: February 23, 2015, 05:03:51 AM
When you're a retired multi billionaire former co-founder of a tech giant, you usually don't keep your ear to the grindstone as close as you used to as evidenced with Gates.

He's busy doing other projects, especially not for profit ones with his wife in the poorest of nations.  Things like this is what he's all about now:

http://www.gatesnotes.com/Development/Omniprocessor-From-Poop-to-Potable

I think he's too busy turning poop into drinking water for poor countries like Africa to offer a valid interview or perspective on Bitcoin or digital currencies.

If Bitcoin matures to grown currency status, you can believe Gates will toot Bitcoin's horn every chance he gets, especially since it'll help his humanitarian efforts.
