2641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Perils of Hoarding on: September 19, 2012, 01:41:25 PM
From some hoarding site:

"There appears to be a strong genetic component to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder of the hoarding type. Modeling and conditioning may also play a role in the development of this disorder. OCD usually involves over-activity and/or under-activity of brain regions that underpin the observed behaviors. Hoarding worries and behaviors can begin in childhood, even as young as age five."

That photo is 'shopped. You can't actually swim in gold coins.
To be correct, only Scrooge can swim in gold coins. When others tried, they ended like Griffin.

1)you don't need crossfire for mining  Wink
2)buying GPU today for mining is not exactly a good idea
3)Well, get another 58xx, since you already have the computer.

You can print them on a QR Code and you will have a bitcoin banknote.  Cheesy

True that  Cheesy

Wouldn't it be good to modify the protocol, so any coins that weren't moved for 1000 days (for example) could be returned back into the system and mined again? We would get rid of some issues this way (lost coins, wasted space). Anyone who hoards bitcoins should just transfer the coins from wallet to wallet once a year.
No

No it's not a good idea. It's a shitty idea

In case it is not clear: NO

Why the hell every week someone must come up with the same fail idea?
2648  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying Bitcoins with Debit Card on: September 18, 2012, 04:46:57 PM
Anonimity is a concern only for few ppl

Most people have no problem with not being anonymous. And anonimity is not related to why no one sell BTC for debit card. As i said the problem are chargebacks. Same reason why no one sell BTC for paypal (or, if they do, they quickly stop  Cheesy)
2649  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buying Bitcoins with Debit Card on: September 18, 2012, 02:34:46 PM
As far as i know, almost no one because of the risk of chargeback. Aka a scammer buy btc and then chargeback the transaction. So he get btc and $$$.

The lightweight clients may not be perfect but they let you send and receive money  Cheesy

As for the standard client and the 4GB, well, bitcoin rely on ppl running standard clients to keep a copy of the blockchain, to relay nodes and transactions and to verify them (verify is not mining of course!).
2651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why no press/PR re: the London Conference? on: September 18, 2012, 11:10:07 AM
Searching google for bitcoin reveals nothing in the news or on blogs about the London Conference.

What's up with that?

Nefario found one (in other thread): http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/printable-guns-grey-matters-and-masked-hackers

+1 to what Holliday said

And no, no other project has more computing power than bitcoin. Of course they try to hide our power by removing us from FLOPs statistics because "bitcoin does 0 FLOPs"  Cheesy
2653  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Increasing Mining on: September 17, 2012, 08:03:50 PM
No need to pay us for these suggestions! And well, as i said with your computer you can't mine a lot.
2654  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Increasing Mining on: September 17, 2012, 07:30:16 PM
You have a 5450. From this page https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison i see it should make like 14mhash/s Not a lot. It's a very weak graphic card.

Anyway, you choose that from the miner. What are you using?

On a side note, why do you get a computer with an i5 intel and 8gb of ram but such a bad bad bad graphic card? I suppose you are not a gamer. But well, a 5450 is totally unsuited for mining.

2655  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Increasing Mining on: September 17, 2012, 07:18:11 PM
Hello IgpayAtinLay  and welcome to the bitcoin forum

First thing, mining is not a get rich quick scheme. Second thing, knowing your hardware is a good thing if you want to mine.

ASUS CPU running WINDOWS 7
Means nothing.

The screenshot you provided tell us that your computer has a Intel i5 760 2.80ghz CPU and 8GB of RAM.

Now, using your processor to mine is useless. It's too too too slow. No one mine with the processor for that reason. Your 5.5mhash/s looks like from CPU mining.

People use graphic cards to mine. Yes, the one required to play videogames. Yes, it's much much more powerful than the processor, but only for some things (aka, games and few things like mining)

My ATI 6950 for example does 300mhash/s.

Use GPU-Z and tell us your videocard.

On a side note, why the hell did you buy a computer without even knowing what it is? Cheesy
2656  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why are people afraid of pool fees? on: September 17, 2012, 07:07:27 PM
I don't get it?? In the newbie forum most especially, pools without fees are preferred over those that take back a small fee.

Here's how I see it: Pools with fees are more reliable in the long run because they have some extra funding to keep their services up and running. Ones which do not incur such fees don't seem to have this safety net.

Am I missing  something?
Yes you are missing things like p2pool

No fee and it's much much better and safer than any other pool. Fees to keep the service up and running? You keep p2pool up and running  Cheesy
