2661  Other / MultiBit / Re: To which client can export Multibit wallets? on: February 24, 2016, 05:43:00 PM
Is there another wallet that supported the export of private keys from Multibit Classic or only blockchain is option?

Any wallet that can handle "WIF" (wallet import format) private keys will work. Any specific you have in mind?

I did not have anything specific in mind, just looking for some new options regarding wallet.MultiBit Classic recently give me a few surprises, like yesterday when I open wallet it start to sync from beginning, like I reset blockchain and transaction. And I have problem to not see transaction which  was confirmed on blockchain.

I see, maybe it makes sense to creep to a different wallet (e.g. MB HD if you come from classic) and use both for a while. This allows you to be indipendent of key imports. Most wallets however accept WIF imports unless they dont allow importing keys at all (like e.g. Multibit HD). Electrum (just to name a common wallet) lets you import the keys, but keeps them seperated from the addresses and keys derived from the seed. That way its obvious that the imported keys need an extra backup.

When did you become someone that needs spoon feeding?

To recap, there are four types of data related to the blockchain in the bitcoin system: the raw blocks as received over the network (blk???.dat), the undo data (rev???.dat), the block index and the UTXO set (both LevelDB databases). The databases are built from the raw data.

Quote
Block pruning allows Bitcoin Core to delete the raw block and undo data once it's been validated and used to build the databases.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/v0.11.0/doc/release-notes.md#block-file-pruning

i know i know as i said before, that the real definition of pruning was as you said..
but the 550mb has got alot of people into a pickle that it must cut out some of the UTXO (laymens:unspent) to get to a possible level of 550mb hard drive space.

it needs to be clarified better that the 550mb is not total hard drive storage allocation of everything related to the blockchain but the separate parts related just to recent data that can change. and not related to archival data of unspents.

it may be wrote down in some places as far back as 2013-4-5 when the term pruning first came about. but the 2016 info on the actual release has made some left in a pickle thinking v0.12 is not the same as the original definition of pruning

The quotes are one click away from the 0.12 released notes. If thats too much for "some" they can ask for help.

So actually running Bitcoin Core in prune mode is only beneficial for you if you want to cut disk usage and if you run out of space on your SSD or something.
You can't help network, your online presence is not counting as a node.

But it still a great functionality nonetheless and I think this is the feature many of us find the most useful.

A pruned node is still a full (verifying) node, it just cant help others become full nodes.

So every one will be under investigation by the new forum gestapo or just active sellers?
Be careful that you do not become the issue of the forum by doling out your brand of justice here.
Its a slippery slope and I know a lot of the ole folk use multiple accounts to push things and make people feel stupid for saying contrary.

Having to prove legitimacy is a interesting issue. If I was questioned out of the blue by pm by some one that is not in the transaction,I would tell them to piss off! Its one thing to ask but another to neg rep a person because they do not play your brand of baseball.
Would it not be fair to list all alt accounts and business you transact in as well if you want clarity?

+1 goodwin point, well done. Reply 7 and the discussion is already over. Its a joke, but it was probably unreasonable to assume that it would not be used as an argument esp. since there is an austrian involved.

I personally will not actively hunt down carders, but when I see things I think deserve a warning I will issue one. Most recent example would be closed thread sales.

Please confirm that you understand this and realize your error now.

care to give Lauda a correction

and thank you for correcting that. can you also find a way to make this more aware in the literature etc as i know alot of people will have 2 comments
1. "if i can set it to store only 550mb of data, thats not enough for the unspents so something must get lost"
2. "why have i put it at 550mb default but my hard drive is showing 2gb"

making both people think what is the purpose of 550mb

try to make it clear that all unspents are available thus able to be used to validate transactions.. as from what i read about
"storing only 550mb of latest blocks" left alot of holes in what was actually happening. which we both know would make the node not able to fully validate if it didnt have full unspent data.

so try to make it clearer in the literature that the 550mb default is not the reality of data storage

When did you become someone that needs spoon feeding?

2667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoinwallet used by 2 people at the same time. on: February 24, 2016, 03:49:20 PM
Hey guys,

I want a Bitcoin wallet that can be used by 2 people at the same time.
Something like a bank account that can be used by you or your wife.

It''s something like a business account for me and my business partner.
We both need access to this wallet.
absolutely . YES it could be done. just have to install the same seed of a wallet on 2 computers , on for bitcoin core, using the same wallet.dat on 2 different computers ( ore more ..)

just out of curiosity: if you use the same wallet.dat on two different computers, won't this cause any problems?
I tought that bitcoind (or bitcoin-qt) would generate new private keys for change addresses. I read somewhere that there were a couple addresses pre-generated, but when they run out, new addresses get generated automatically.

In this case, the OP and his partner would start out with the same private keys in their wallets, but after a while, their wallets wouldn't be the same anymore... Is this correct?
no, that's not cause any problems ( as i know)   when you do a transaction on a computer it apears on the second one .... thats' all

mocacinno is correct. Bitcoin core should not be used across different machines with the same wallet.dat. It has (by default) 100 private keys and addresses pregenerated for you. If one address is used (e.g. for change) a new is generated to keep the pool of keys at 100. The new one is generated randomly and will be different for both computers. Thus the files are quickly out of sync and need to be manually kept in sync in order to avoid lost coins.
2668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How good is prune mode! on: February 24, 2016, 03:41:16 PM
No, you cant help anyone else become any form of node as a pruned node. You dont share old blocks and in order to become a pruned node all blocks must be downloaded and verified.

Interesting. It seems that I was wrong. I was under impression that it functioned so and actually thought that you're the one who told me this a while back. So essentially if you start fresh with setting for a pruned node you have to go through everything but only keep the latest X amount of blocks? What does a pruned node relay, or does it relay nothing?

Yes, you need to get all blocks.
Yes, you relay new blocks and transactions (I remember telling you this, maybe there was a mix up).
You cant however relay old blocks and as they are needed for a pruned node with wallet you cant help others synching.

Seems that 777coin have a problem with payment again, late payment like in the past. Are they deserve to get the asterisk back? Smiley

Hope we get paid for last weeks period on Wednesday. I hate when it's really late Sad

Not for a single person contemplating a possible problem.

How can I join on this campaigns. I would like to try to earn extra for this campaigns. I am actually newbie but very much willing to learn for this. if you dont mind Pls let me join in this campaign I am looking forward to this. Thank you so much

I suggest you get your posting in order first. There is no reason to quote posts from 2014.

I already suggested it a few pages back (when they initally announced it), but since they are closed/paused for now,
it's time to remove LuckyBtcCasino (until they re-open in a few weeks).

Is this better than using an SPV wallet, or is it the same?  I don't get the benefit of storing any of the blockchain, if you aren't going to store the whole thing.  Maybe I just don't understand how it works.
Of course it is. You are a pruned node, which is not the case with a SPV wallet. Essentially you can help others become pruned nodes as well, but you are unable to help people become full nodes. Security also depends on how many blocks (storage) you set to hold.

No, you cant help anyone else become any form of node as a pruned node. You dont share old blocks and in order to become a pruned node all blocks must be downloaded and verified.

Just a heads up to let you know posts have been counted and payments will be sent out asap.

Thanks

Thanks, not only for this week but for all the past weeks. I will be joining another campaign for the break. Lutpin has been nagging quite some time to join them. I will gladly return once the pause is over, if you will have me.

Sry for my english, but I´m from Germany. I use MultiBit HD since 1 month and were was never a Problem. But now I have one. In my list i received a lot of BTC from other users. They always had the Status of received with a green spot. Now all this Translation have a Inbound Status with two black arrows, but last week they were all green.
In my BTC Status I have currently BCT and i have a lot of BTC unconfirmed as well. And this are the BTC which had a green spot last week. Thats wrong?

Was heißt "längst"?

2678  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 0.12 release on: February 24, 2016, 08:54:50 AM
Ok not sure what is going on.

I cant get Linux to recognize 0.12.0 exists.  It is almost like my registry is not updating.   I have also tried removing 0.11.2 and re installing using all the normal commands I use and when I try to load back on Ubuntu. I'm still on 0.11.2.    I have never had a problem in the past.  Any ideas?

The repos take a few days usually, if you installed from a repo (apt-get install ...) you need to wait.
2679  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Lost Seed for electrum wallet on: February 23, 2016, 07:04:04 PM
@shorena yes that is correct

You will need to install electrum again and open the old wallet file, see the post by Abdussamad where to find the file on your old disk.
2680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoinwallet used by 2 people at the same time. on: February 23, 2016, 05:53:37 PM
Correct me if i am wrong but i believe if you both download the same desktop wallet and share your privet keys with each other both wallets should be the same but i dont think they can be both online at the same time.

Depends on the wallet, not all of them work the same. Regardless of the wallet I dont see a reason why they should not be "online" (I assume you mean running the wallet with this) at the same time.

Sorry i meant could both wallets be online at the same time? So once they receive bitcoins both wallets get notifications or does one unsync while one stays online?

Who would determine that? There is no central authority that would disconnect one wallet and keep the other online. Chances are very high that both are connected to different nodes (assuming SPV or full node wallets) or servers (electrum) anyway.

Other wise multi spending could happen?

Sure it could, but that would be even more likely if one wallet was offline when the other created a TX and come online before the TX was confirmed. When both are online they know about the TX the other creates within seconds. To keep them in sync (in terms of keys) a HD wallet is a must IMHO.
