Two questions... why is the foundation the only group issuing bitcoin-qt updates? In most open-source projects there are people all over the place submitting their own updates.

Also, does anyone think there is truth to the idea that the government is who confiscated the Gox coins, placing the team under a gag order, and thus the reason for the "malleability bug" excuse?

1) Research bitcoin development

Here are a couple of good places to start:
   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4571.0
   https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pulse

2) Not much point speculating further until we have more facts.  Malleability is not a bug; it's a documented characteristic of the way Bitcoin works.  IMHO it is much more likely that they misunderstood malleability and introduced a bug in their implementation than they invented the whole thing to cover other sins.  I still find the scale of the loss incredibly hard to believe however.  That took their bug and combined it with either wilful impropriety or staggering incompetence.

The only sane opinion of the situation so far; not that I've managed to read all this word-fighting game on this WOT.

I have constantly been talking about how cons I'm about trading btc. My opinion is simple: YOU SHOULDN'T.
I have also posted here my 5 rules of success for newbies:
1. Don't get emotional from other's people thoughts.
2. Not everyone here is a "nice person" you can trust.
3. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, DON'T TRADE.
4. HOLD!!!
5. Until you desperately need the money follow rule #4.

Good Luck!

I have also posted an article (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=372346.0) about why you SHOULDN'T trade btcs and the most viable way to get out with more money/btc would be to hold.

Well; I bet you knew the risks.

Does anyone knows what happens next?

Since MtGox has about 60% available will have a cut of 40% about and take this back???
In such a situation I bet there will be a liquidation and some of that money will seek their respective owners.

I'd say whoever wants to buy; do it now for there will be no other opportunity for you... and I'm very serious right now.

You told the same @ 1100$ the first time and 1050$ on the dead cat bounce.
Believe this guy and BUY BUY BUY!
Then you may as well sell... Wink

He filed up for bankruptcy. It was accepted by the jury and now legal and financial investigation starts. The debt is circa 6.4bn Y and the assets of MtGox is circa 3.84bn Y. That's a relief Tongue

Am i really the only one who is concerned that Bitcoin hasn't responded to ANY good news in MONTHS?
People dump every single time there is some bad news. Often it isn't even bad news but more like "i'm gonna panic sell in case it us bad news". We go lower and lower. Now we're at 570. There will be good news. Nobody will give a shit. They're all waiting for the next bad news so we can go lower again.
We would need to most amazing super positive news ever to stop this and i don't see this coming.

So give me one reason why we could go up again. I can't find any. I really can't.

Edit: how much longer will we be going down because of Gox. They are gone. Will it take us down for months to come? Can't people just get over it?

it is really simple, bitcoin went from 80 to 1240 in one month and a half, this also doesn't seem healthy, people seem to think about "take some profit while they can", the down trend will continue till we discover the next adoption wave and we will see what the market will decide a fair price is.

Dude, we went from $400 to ~$566 now %41 up. This is officially a bull market. I'm not saying we can't go down from here, but there is twice as much fiat defending the bottom now as there was when we hit it the first time. Check the order books.

Don't be angry; he wants CHEAP COINZ!!!! Tongue

Interesting stuff there... I bet for a CCMF soon. Whoever dumped; dumped. The King is dead; Hail the King!

I don't understand why ANY of you here would still have funds on mtgox. Mtgox has had blatant liquidity and management problems and been the running joke of this community for almost an entire  YEAR. I removed my funds in AUGUST. We had passed mtgox off as no longer relevant and a facade months and months ago and now suddenly it's a big deal again?

It's called the "Stockholm syndrome" I guess. A known "malleability"  Grin

Loaded is offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of personal and client funds stored at MtGox:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=489950.0

EDIT: Loaded is a great whale, for those that don't know.

I'm pretty surprised to learn he still has a sizable amount there. There was plenty of chance to arbitrage and get out in the last bubble, even with profit.

It was not sizable enough to warrant a flight to Japan. However, it is sizable enough to ruin my weekend.

Same here (at A VERY LOWER level, of course...) Wink

Thanks. Takaways:

+430% accounts in 2013
1 million verified customers (submitted docs, etc)
demand was growing faster than their infrastructure
definitely planning on implementing Litecoin and possibly other cryptos in the future
partnership w/Mastercard in Canada (test market) for prepaid Bitcoin debit card
planned relaunch of improved website
planned auction site

edit: they were definitely solvent w/projected $925,000 in trading fees projected for March 2014 & $3,900,000 in net income.

They 're seriously running out of time (if any of the above is really true, that is)...

http://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-subpoena-japan-us/

The Mt. Gox maelstrom is starting to attract attention from law enforcement in Japan and the US.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mt. Gox has been subpoenaed by the US Attorney’s office in New York. Additionally, a few thousand miles west, Japanese officials have confirmed that local authorities are looking into the matter, too.

The Wall Street Journal cites an unnamed source, which revealed the federal subpoena was sent this month. Details are rather thin on the ground and at this point in time it remains unclear when the subpoena was sent, or what it is all about.

In any case, federal prosecutors don’t tend to waste their time in vain and the fact that the attorney’s office is declining to comment the matter is consistent with an ongoing investigation.

From a sane point of view, a million customer company just doesn't VANISH out of thin air and hopes it gets away with it. No speculative intentions here but I 'm willing to wait some more and won't panic at the moment.

Cheers.
