This could be the making of a new number 1 crypto.. or it could destroy all faith in every crypto.. I guess we'll see :|
No, the crypto is here to stay. We are just entering Gartner Hype Cycle's Slope of Disillusionment. Plateau of productivity will follow.

My advice: wait a bit for the price to continue going down, then buy as much in crypto as possible.
Two questions:
- timing: when to sell, when to buy (I'd say sell pretty soon, but no idea on when to buy)
- choice: what to buy. BTC? NXT? MINT? BTC has a strong reputation and even if it is the one that will suffer the more, I think it is still the most probable winner of tomorrow. Now, I would realy prefer NXT to be such a winner, because of its major technological improvements (PoS, colored coins, VISA grade speed of transactions...), but this is also a very centralised money. MINT doesn't have that much problem but it is very, very young and apart from PoS it has no technological edge over BTC. Or maybe the coin to be will be Ripples. Or maybe a coin that doesn't exist yet and is will not be encumbered with the "bitcoin-era" controversy. We shall look at the 2000 dotcom bubble. Who survived? Why? Can it be an example for the "Bitcoin bubble"?

I suggest anyone sell back to fiat up to his initial fiat investment (the rest, you can keep as such or not, up to you). Let weather the storm then go back to the crypto-world. This is just one bad moment to go through.

The reason I made my post before was because I want the dev, to stop by and answer a few questions about the PoS. That's all.
PM me your question, I will ask them directly.

Some of your questions are answered in the FAQ by one of the devs - http://www.mintcointalk.com/index.php/topic,41.0.html

Besides, Cryptsy has almost two times higher comission rate. They are robbers compared to Mintpal.
That's one of the reasons I stopped using cryptsy (another one is of course that mintpal had mint very early and another one is that the admin is very reactive). Especially now that DOGE trades on Mintpal. Once Nextcoin will be back on Mintpal, I will have no reason to look elsewhere (save for fiat, and here Bitcoin-central.net is the way).

To my knowledge, no coins are purely POS. Only mint does (after 5 weeks of mining)
No and no.

There is ONE pure PoS, it is Nextcoin (as well as mastercoin and ripple, IIRC).
Mint is not a pure PoS. It is a PoW/PoS hybrid, which uses the PoW part to circumvent the issue of centralisation that plagues nextcoin.

Someone said POS will only begin after 5 weeks of initial distribution.
You need to keep your mintcoin in the wallet for 20 consecutive day (moving from one wallet to another - like from exchange to desktop wallet or reverse) DO reset the counter.

So, since the last reward will be in less than 16 days, you should already keep your mintcoins. Don't use them. Hoard most of it and use some to encourage its widespread use. Because remember: a currency is only worth something if it is used (or predicted to be used, but prediction ultimately meet reality). If everyone stockpile 100% of his mintcoin, mintcoin will just disappear.

A couple more questions:

1.  If my coins are on an exchange for 20+ days and they aren't moved, do they get the interest?

2.  Is mintpal.com affiliated with or owned by the devs of this coin?

Thanks.
No, your exchange will http://mintcoin.cc/faq/ ("Is it OK to keep my mintcoins on an exchange, instead of my own wallet?")
No, it  is a (happy) coincidence. In English, "to mint" means producing money (http://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=mint&oldid=25549960#Noun_2). It also is a polysemic word because it relates to a plant associated with green and freshness. This explain why the term was used on several related servce without prior knowledge. And it definitely had been a boon for mintpal (and mintcoin too - Jay from Mintpal is very reactive) Smiley

1. Yes
2. No. Coincidence, the dev themselves admitted it (go read somewhere in the beginning of the thread).

The waste of energy for PoW cannot be justified when there is a more efficient alternative available.
+1. Could someone find the calculation an important consulting group did some time ago regarding the ecological footprint of mining bitcoin?

Who is David Latapie?  From the recent posts, it seems that posters to this thread think he is the developer of Mintcoin.  It seems a few days ago he was asking questions on how to mine and using the wrong CGminer on top of that.  Now he is getting props as the developer?  Would someone please explain.   This whole thread is so comical.   There are other odd posts of his too.  Now he is an esteemed expert and possible developer 10 days later.  Only on the internet!
Everything started here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=450381.msg5169298#msg5169298 check the date and when mintcoin started to rise.

He isn't part of the DEV team. He however had huge part in community management along with Shibeon, Alty, Delaforetnoire which I believe had huge impact on the growth we've seen the last 3 weeks.

Thank you.  I retract my comment and apologize to David.  Props are in order!
No harm done Bulldog Smiley

I am not a developper (even though I love Manjaro Linux and run on a Mintbox). I am the founder of the extended team (I recruited them all) for mintcoin, which basically revived a slumbering mintcoin. I like to overseer things, that's why you don't see me that much.

Another note:   Start pressing on trading in USD.  Be the first.  We need it to trade in USD and CNY.  It will be liquid and a beautiful hedge in troubled waters.   We don't want to be connected to the hip with BTC.
This is under consideration.

Hi,

Feature request (for v3 Smiley: a counter of how many time I hit the worst loss streak.
Right now, stats tell me the worst loss streak was 18, which is a good information. But nothing tells me if it happened once, twice, thrice...

Did I say I love your program?

Wait for tomorrow. Sunday is not the best time for cool-headed trading.

The early co-ordination efforts you put in place for mint must not be underestimated - you and the team you helped put together have contributed significantly to the success of mint so far Smiley
Thanks Colin Smiley I even mentionned it during my viva for memoir (master's thesis last Friday, one of the main reason why you did see me much these days).

And let's not forget steban, who gave me the incentive for all of this.

Co-ordination is not over. I am back in the saddle, as task manager, what I do the best. And believe me, we have a looot of plans for mintcoins. Your coin. Our coin.

Once it is on cryptsy it will only drop. I see many coins were killed in that way.
This would be a good thing. Because mintcoin is for long term and a price drop would be a boon for late comers - and for every mint holder because a coin succeed if it is widespread.

i missed this coin, watching its price up up and up Cry
I felt the same with Vertcoin Smiley This time, I decided to act!

Don't worry to much. 30 is high, but will say so when it will be 60, 90... or more. Look at dogecoin.

This is not too late. Plus, consider those who don't even now about bitcoin.

You may be late, but you still are an early adopter. Welcome!
