2681  Economy / Gambling discussion / [Boxing] Nesthy Petecio vs Irie Sena Olympic Gold Match on: August 02, 2021, 11:07:04 AM

ctto

This most awaited fight by Filipinos will be happening in less than 24 hours and what intrigued me most is the betting odds on my favorite sportsbook as it listed Nesthy Petecio as the favorite on this match considering that the latter has only won one out of their four previous meetings.

@Baofeng, what's your take on this one bro? Need your inputs before pulling the trigger as usual hehe.

Phoenix led by 5 points at the half, the score is 45-40 and TNT seem to have a problem with the defense of the Phoenix.
Will see if TNT will come back or Phoenix will just dominate them.

Lost my first game bet but won the second, break-even for me this day. Both games are close with the winning teams failed to cover the spread.

Mikey Williams played for almost 38 minutes, registering 9 points by way of 4-19 from the field, that's a very low percentage but yet he got heavy minutes so this means that coach Chot has confidence in this guy.

2683  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Oscar Valdez vs Robson Conceicao - Sept 10th on: July 31, 2021, 10:29:54 PM
Valdez already beat the best fighter in the division and will likely fight the winner of Herring vs.Stevenson in the near future. Sometimes it is ok for someone to have a showcase fight as long as they are still fighting the best. Canelo fought Yildirim and that was okay because he fought Billy Joe Saunders afterwards. The fight with Conceicao sold out very quickly so there is still demand to see this fight even though it is not the most well known opponent.

With his recent and awesome performance against Miguel Berchelt, people are wanting now to see more of Oscar Valdez that may be one of the many reasons why this fight with Conceicao sold out quickly. Top Rank is building up this guy so I expect a promotion that would make Oscar famous to the gambling capital of the US, Las Vegas. If he wins this another hurdle, I'm hoping that they will make the fight against Shakur Stevenson which for me would be the biggest fight of either's career.

I thought there's no game tomorrow due to the transfer of venue, but it was posted here (https://pba.ph/) that we have a scheduled two games today.

I've just read that there are some modifications on the schedule and did not know that there is a venue transfer, may I know where they will transfer?

at 2 PM, we have Rain or Shine vs DYIP ( time to bounce back for ROS)
at 4:35 PM, we have TNT and Phoenix, this one is great, Phoenix has to win but TNT is just the better team here.

My Picks for the day:

Rain or Shine -6.5 @1.88, DYIP has not found the ingredients to win yet while ROS needs to bounce back.

Phoenix +5.5 @2.01, TNT might be a better team but with this HC, I have second thoughts that they could cover this one so I'm backing Phoenix with HC.
2685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 31, 2021, 11:05:03 AM
I'm backing Bolts -2.5 @1.84, they are on the roll so betting against them is not advisable hehe.

Got the W for today's lone ballgame. Alaska is in complete disarray, even Jeron Teng struggles this late on his game. Looking at their current roster seems that they will go home early.

If this young star really have something to show for sure we will see that within this first season of his career.

Yeah, one season is enough to showcase your true potential, some teams can even determine if a player has potential through their scouting report which i think TNT has. Have read an article, coach Chot was not impressed of Mikey William's debut but he understands that chemistry might be a factor so he gives his guy some time to show his potential.

Two games for tomorrow guys hope none will be canceled and also hope that the PBA would continue in a bubble setup.
2686  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: July 31, 2021, 05:53:02 AM
The Lakers maybe up to something else. Record breaking. 2 players with triple doubles in the Finals.  Grin
I saw WB's tweet just now. "Hometeam". I guess that settles it. I don't even need to read the whole story about it. The 3 Lakers stars also met at Lebron's home to discuss about their egos being set aside. I hope they can do that. WB and LBJ had some bad history throwing words with each other on interviews and even off camera. I think they will need to work out that history first to play better this season.

Lebron has got some influence on this trade and this is some sort of his last dance before retiring for good. He can't win championships anymore if he relies on the picks. With WB on board, I think he will take over the handling chores most of the time.

Egos and prides are set aside for that seat of the Finals next season, they are pros so they are very good with that.
2687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: July 30, 2021, 10:12:30 PM
Pacquiao will only get people's trust as a President once he hangs his gloves. That position is serious and he can't just dream of it while still active in boxing. It's different from his former position as Congressman and current position as Senator where he can still insert the time to focus on boxing.

That's not even a good thing that he focuses on both as he was elected by people to fulfill his duty. After Spence Jr., I'm sure Pacquiao still has a target boxer. He should forget running for the higher position for now.

This is why his trust rating declines and disapproval rating goes up because people no longer believe his statement that he dedicates his fight for his country but the truth is, he is fighting for his self-interest.

Before entering politics, Manny is a beauty to watch whenever he fights, even a not-so-hardcore boxing fan could appreciate his boxing style.

Money, fame, and power are what Manny wants to achieve and he all got these, it's not advisable for him to grab the most powerful position if he is still boxing and he can still fulfill his dream to help people in his current stature.
2688  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 30, 2021, 09:38:05 PM
I just notice I've seen almost all the rookies this season and they seem to have not impressed me yet.

The last time I was impress was a Rookie playing with Terrafirma DYIP which is CJ Perez, when he started his PBA career, he doesn't look like a Rookie as he was already making double-digit points consistently in a game. What are your thoughts on the current Rookies, who is the biggest one you think has a good potential to end with great numbers in the conference?

I had my eye focused on Mikey Williams as he was controversial on asking high rookie salary despite not proving anything yet and yes, just like what you said he doesn't register impressive numbers on his first game.

With Bossing vs Phoenix game canceled today, we only have Alaska vs Bolts game to bet on.

I'm backing Bolts -2.5 @1.84, they are on the roll so betting against them is not advisable hehe.

I'm 2 out of 2 yesterday and seems like this season is pretty easy to pick on who will win the matches for me  Grin. hope this will continue.

2689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 29, 2021, 09:41:23 PM
We have games tomorrow, and here are the betting odds.

Dyip vs Magnolia (-11.5)
TNT vs ROS (+3.5)
Ginebra vs NP (+6.5)

I think I'll bet on the NP to win the game or win the spread.  I witness a chemistry problem on the last game of Ginebra, and Greg will face his old team, probably we will see the best Greg as he will prove to his old team that they make a wrong decision trading him

Last time he scored 23 points and grabbed 17 points against the Beermen so if he could more or less match that output in this game against his former team which I think he would, probably coach Tim will regret trading him hehe.

My bets for today:

NorthPort -6.5 @1.95, with Ginebra having chemistry issues, I will bet against them until they find their winning ways.
TNT -4.5 @1.95, ROS playing horrible in their last game and Mikey Williams having his debut so I think Katropa will be winning this one.

I'm staying away from the first game, the spread is too high, this is a sure Magnolia win but with how many points, that's the problem.
2690  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: July 29, 2021, 09:30:34 PM
Me too, I will not vote for as politician but I will support him as a Pro Boxer because he is the pride of our country. I'm replying on the quote statement above that many Filipino will pray for him that he will lose on the match. This is such disgusting considering MP achievement and works for the Philippines.

Try to look at the social media post where the training of Manny is shown and you will see a lot of comments where they said they are praying for Manny to lose lol but I think these people are die-hard supporters of the President.

Personally, even before his attack on the President, I have already doubted that he could pull off this tough fight. Spence is bigger and in his prime, while he is old and in the twilight of his career. Sure that Manny would get a lot of money out of this fight but I just saw the referee raising the hands of Errol after the fight  Grin.
2691  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tokyo 2020 Men's Olympics Basketball Tournament on: July 29, 2021, 12:50:26 PM
Looks like the other national teams have more impact than the current USA team. Just look how Luka making names in this tournament where they dominated every opponent that comes on their way. Another good basketball play we are seeing here is if we are just focusing on one team. A lot of greatness especially for the recent wins of Slovenia, Luka Magic still continues.

Luka's sensation is still felt, lol.. The USA now is not anymore a dream team, they are not composed of the best players in the NBA so other national teams has a big chance of beating them. They lose against France and we know France is not even the top favorite to win, so will see with their upcoming games.

IMO, Team USA is still the best but only other teams have caught up with them. Luka is good, no question about that but he can't do it alone and carry his team into the Finals sooner or later they will lose to a more complete team. This achievement of Luka is good enough for him to become the hero of his country when he comes home.
2692  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: July 29, 2021, 11:51:52 AM
I reckon you underestimate popularity in elections because in reality elections are only a popularity contest. Trump won versus Hillary on 2016 because of his popularity among the lower class in America. I speculate that it might be similar in Pacman’s country. This win versus Spence will create a clamor for him to run as president.

Also, if the news media begins creating storylines that the present administration of a country is corrupt, unjust and oppressive, this is the first signs that there are political backers begining their move. Pacman will be with that move. In any case, I predict that he will declare he is running for president if he wins.

Pacquiao's trust rating as of this late has declined due to his attack on the sitting President which enjoyed a very high trust rating even if this is his last year in the position. Before Manny flew for the US, he accused some government agencies of corruption which he could not prove, and instead of doing his job as a senator, where he is in the US training for his fight while the people he ought to serve is in danger of this delta variant of covid.

He might not admit but he is distracted by the issues on his home country. Believe it or not, more people are now praying that Pacquiao will lose this one because they feel that Manny is selfish and only after his own interest.
2693  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 28, 2021, 01:15:07 PM
What a big win by the Alaska Aces, they held down the undefeated ROS to 48 points only, it's a very defensive game and finally, Alaska bounces back from their previous loss. Therefore, in the last game, I'm thinking of betting on the Meralco Bolts as I believe they will also bounce back, so I'm taking the -3.5.

Is this the lowest output of a PBA team ever? Wow, I can't believe that they were being demolished easily by Alaska, they are undefeated before this game but it seems that they are in the bottom of the standings with this score.

Wright is still not available, so probably we might see the Phoenix here having some problem.

Congrats on this one mate, I also bet for Meralco because of the absence of Wright.

Not so lucky for me this day as I'm 1 out 3.

My bet for SMB and over 180.5 have no luck but one thing beautiful on that game is that the Kraken is steadily improving, this might stop the argument that his end is coming.
2694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: July 27, 2021, 09:28:35 PM
If I had to choose between two options for how Pacquiao would win - by knockout or by decision, then I would have bet on the knockout. In my opinion, there is simply no chance of winning on points, since all rounds after the middle Spence will dominate (maybe I'm wrong, but that's my prediction), but there is always a chance to make a lucky punch.

This would be a wise choice I think. In the first few rounds of the fight, Pacman will show his speed and power but in the later rounds it will fade just like in the Thurman fight and that's the time Spence could exploit him.

Not saying that Manny would completely gas out but the chances are too high since he is 3 years older when he fought Thurman and I don't believe that he will defy father time and still fought like he is in his prime unless he is drinking something which I don't think he is capable of.
2695  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 27, 2021, 09:17:18 PM
We've got a triple header for today. Here are my picks, hope my winning streak continues.

SMB and over 180.5 @1.89
Rain or Shine -1.5 @1.89
Meralco Bolts -3.5@1.94

On the third game, I'm hesitant to bet for Meralco but since Wright is still out due to injury I think the Bolts could handle and bet them.

Good luck everyone and happy betting.
2696  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 26, 2021, 09:01:21 PM
What do you think about the current run of Magnolia hotshots in the conference so far?

per standing, they are already 3-0, they beat the following teams.
1st game Phoenix
2nd game Alaska
3rd game Ginebra.

Next game will be against DYIP and 5th game against North port.
https://pba.ph/schedule

I think the win streak will continue as Paul is more comfortable now that he can pass the ball inside and having Calvin Abueva in the roster is really a big thing as he can grab offensive rebounds, and could attack inside.

The possibility of a 5-0 standing for Magnolia is just too high as DYIP and NorthPort could only offer little to no resistance to Magnolia's attack  Smiley.

Agree, Paul is comfortable and confident now as there are more teammates now that can grab those offensive rebounds in case he misses and he has Abueva and Sangalang whom he could dish out the ball if he decides to drive and drop.

Since they already beat Ginebra, the biggest hurdle for them now is the Beermen.
2697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ethics of boxing and gambling on: July 26, 2021, 01:56:31 PM
I know many people bet on boxing matches and I recently saw a post on an "slapping tournament". I was thinking that professional boxing is kind of questionable as a sport discipline and even more so as a gambling event. It is known that many boxers sustain long term effects of repeated micro-trauma and even some have been know to die in the ring. For all boxing fans and for others that may have a view on this, how is this being considered a fully legal activity being supported? And how is betting of people hitting each other being considered as legal and ethical in today´s world?

There are more brutal sports than boxing like MMA but as far as boxing is concern, they have made some improvements/adjustments to make fighters safer like the reduction on the number of rounds from 15 to only 12. Boxers are aware of the dangers that they are into and boxing officials always reminded them to protect themselves at all times.

If you are a fan of this sweet science and there is a gambling opportunity on this, the temptation to bet is hard to resist but I can say that it depends on one's culture.

Some people around the world criticize people who bet on two cocks killing each other while allowing elephants to perform in a circus which for me is more unethical.
2698  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 Philippine Basketball Association betting discussion on: July 25, 2021, 11:10:26 AM
~snip~
Northport
Slaughter 23 points, Bollick 19 points, and Onwubere 12 points.

It almost went to overtime courtesy of that useless act of Arwin that made the score tied in the dying seconds but it is him also that saved the day for the Beermen.

Slaughter prove his worth in this game, beat Fajardo in terms of points, this might be a good catch by the Batang Pier if he will stay put in his current team.

2 out of 3 so far, profitable still even if I lose my NLEX bet  Cool.

Ginebra has chemistry issues, they should act on it before it is too late.
2699  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Oscar Valdez vs Robson Conceicao - Sept 10th on: July 25, 2021, 03:35:12 AM
I'm checking Robson Conceicao boxrec here; https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/772975. No experience yet, so yes this is a cherry pick fight for Valdez obviously. With only 16 fights under Robson's belt, I don't think he has enough experienced to give Oscar some problems. All I can see is that this kid is tall, almost 5'11 and that might posed some issues with Oscar early, but for sure he can adjust as the fight goes on and maybe can score a KO/TKO with his now famous and developed left hook under coach Reynoso.

Oscar Valdez is under the banner of Top Rank, which is good at building their fighters through cherry picking boxers that will show the strength of their cash cow, in this case Valdez is being brewed to be the next one.

So no surprised that they have to pick a fighter with less experience but with the selling point of being a Olympic gold medalist.

Haha, very true. Oscar's last fight against Miguel was awesome if you are an ordinary boxing fan as he looks very good in that fight. He goes up in weight to beat Miguel which for me is very doable since the latter is so slow and Top Rank exploited that to make Oscar's stock goes up just like what they did to Manny Pacquiao.

With Robson Conceicao a gold medalist in the Olympics, this may be enough to sell some tickets though but pro boxing and Olympic boxing is very different from each other so we can expect Oscar to demolish Robson come fight night.

Is the current season of Japanse B. League now taking place? Ravena then can play next season and he should finish first the current conference to help his team.

If the PBA will allow imports after All-Filipino Cup or if IATF will allow another conference, nothing to worry if the team will not have Ravena to play for them next season. NLEX just needs to find a good import to cover the absence of Kiefer Ravena. What a special player, can play at Japan and PH season after season haha.

I made a quick research on the schedule of Japanese B league and found out that the first game of the season is at end of September, so maybe All-Filipino Cup will still be played by then and it could complicate on the NLEX schedule. I don't know why they give this kind of scenario of the Ravena case but I think it's just to satisfy the urge of the PBA supporters to let Ravena play in Japan.

Thirdy Ravena will also suit up for the Gilas squad as his schedule is vacant.
