2681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: January 11, 2012, 06:35:06 PM
Has it finished downloading the blockchain yet?

Yes. No Litecoins and no old receiving address recovered  Sad
2682  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Problem recovering my wallet on: January 10, 2012, 07:00:26 PM
Hi, recently I formatted my puter after making a backup of my litecoin wallet (which contained a few litecoins). Now that I reinstalled everything and put my wallet where the litecoin client use to keep it ( C:\Documents and Settings\current user\Application Data\Litecoin ), the wallet is empty according the client (v.0.5.0.8 ). Moreover, even the receiving address I used to receive my litecoins has not been saved in the wallet according the client.
Am I phucked? And why?
2683  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 30+ Mhs drop adding a second card on: January 03, 2012, 08:56:41 PM
Thanks for your help. I found something interesting: I use to run a dynamical clocking utility for my cpu (CrystalCPUID) which underclocks and undervolts the cpu when is not utilized, so that most of the time it runs at 220*6=1320Mhz.
Well, if I set the cpu at minimum (220*6)=1320Mhz my cards produce:
5830: 300 Mhs
5870: 430 Mhs
If I set the cpu at middle range (220*10)=2200 Mhz I get:
5830: 310 Mhs
5870: 440 Mhs
And If I set the cpu at max (220*14)=3080 Mhz I get:
5830: 316 Mhs
5870: 446 Mhs
Strange thing is that I do not have the cpu bug. Phoenix needs just 2-5% of my cpu, so I wonder why it affects at all my hashing.
Giving Above Normal priority to Phoenix does not seem to improve anything.

I tried yesterday Bitminter beta which seems to give slightly lower output than Phoenix.
2684  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 30+ Mhs drop adding a second card on: January 03, 2012, 06:58:49 PM
Are they set up in xfire? If not, they should be running independently and have no perfrmance decrease unless the mobo's PCI bandwidth scales way, way down with 2+ cards.

No Xfire. But I found that the 2 PCIEx16 slots on this crappy board can run at x16 speed only when there is just one card inserted in one of them. Using both slots with two cards decrease their speed to PCIEx8. This may explain my performance drop?
2685  Bitcoin / Mining support / 30+ Mhs drop adding a second card on: January 03, 2012, 08:08:49 AM
One of my rigs with a single 5870 @965/300 used to have an output of 460+ Mhs (with phoenix 1.7 phatk2)
Since I added a 5830 the performance of the 5870 dropped to barely 440Mhs even if I increased the oc to 970 (keeping the miner in foreground. In background it drops much further to 404 Mhs).
Even the 5830 is not satisfying: @940/300 just 310 Mhs.

Anyone has any explanation/suggestion?
I use this string on the 5870:
phatk2 DEVICE=0 VECTORS FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=8 WORKSIZE=256 -a 1000
Before with aggression=7 I had higher performance, and I cannot increase it more in order to keep my puter responsive.
My string on the 5830 is:
phatk2 DEVICE=1 VECTORS FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=7 WORKSIZE=256 -a 1000
With these strings I seem to have the best performance. I have catalyst 11.6.
Board is an Asrock Alivexfire e-sata 2 with an amd 5600 x2 cpu running Xp.
2686  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Catalyst 11.6 and no dummy plugs? on: January 02, 2012, 09:11:36 PM
See here about my experience.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=54693.msg671359#msg671359

I found no need for dummy plugs with driver 11.6. Just extend you desktop to the unconnected cards from screen properties on xp.
2687  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: *Catalyst 12.1 Preview* Decreased performance, anyone else confirm? on: January 02, 2012, 09:03:19 PM
I confirm a 30+ Mhs drop on both a 5870 and a 5830 with both CataCLYSM 11.12 and 12.1 compared with 11.6.
What is MUCH WORSE is that you cannot revert back effectively: uninstalling and driver sweeping before rebooting and reinstalling 11.6 will NOT return your previous performance.
Luckily, I had a fresh system backup made just yesterday that I could restore no prob.
Now I am back to mining happily with my 5870@970/300 hashing at 440Mhs+ and a 5830@940/300 hashing at 300Mhs+ with Phoenix 1.7 on Xp.

Thanks for the good news. I hope you are right. I gave up trying to upgrade around 11.9 for the crappiness of the new drivers (cpu bug), and I am still hearing ppl lamenting about the latests (reduced performance). But I'm going to give a try.
2689  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Catalyst 11.6 and no dummy plugs? on: December 30, 2011, 10:36:17 AM
Hi, anyone has figured out a way to get 2 or more cards working on Xp with only one of them connected to a monitor, Ati driver 11.6, and no dummy plugs?  If so please let me know.
2690  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power Supply Calculations on: December 28, 2011, 10:13:59 PM
OK. I upgraded my main rig with a Corsair TX750 v2 and all is fine and nice.

Now let's come to my second rig:
Asus socket 939 with an Athlon64 single cpu, 4 ddr sticks, 2 sata 3.5 hdd, 1 radeon HD 5750 mining 24/7 @870/300
PSU: Amacrox warrior 500 http://www.amacrox.com/english/01_product/02_01detail.aspx?pdid=38

Question: I would like to add a second radeon 5750 or 6750, ideally not buying a bigger PSU at the same time (I would rather buy a new PSU some time later), could I do it safely (without starting a fire into my house)?

According the PSU calculator, currently my setup takes:
Minimum PSU Wattage:   283 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 333 W * (including a 15% Capacitor Aging coefficient. PSU is 1 year old or little more)

If I add another 5750 the calculator says:
Minimum PSU Wattage:   338 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 388 W*

The PSU specifics says that it supports up to 350W on the 12v line.
Thanks in advance for any informed opinion.

Same string means you didn't supply VECTORS2 instead of VECTORS, right?
Dia

This is the string I used with your kernel to get barely 405 Mhs with Phoenix 1.7:
phoenix.exe -u http://***:***@btcguild.com:8332/ -k phatk DEVICE=0 VECTORS2 FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=7 WORKSIZE=64 -a 1000

And this is the string which makes me 455 Mhs with Phoenix 1.7:
phoenix.exe -u http://***:***@btcguild.com:8332/ -k phatk2 DEVICE=0 VECTORS FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=7 WORKSIZE=256 -a 1000

Download version 2011-12-21: http://www.mediafire.com/?r3n2m5s2y2b32d9
Should restore some of the speed loss for 58XX owners, who switched to SDK / runtime 2.6 and is the best for 69XX owners, too.
Dia

Thanks, but no thanks. It makes about 405 Mhs on my 5870@965/300, against 456 Mhs with phatk2 on Phoenix 1.7, same string. Ati Driver 11.6.

I will probably at some point add regular name+password login and facebook login.

Facebook?! Then you could as well opt for a retina scan to send to the CIA

Dunno. I have just read a post by s.o. in this forum saying that he would refuse to log in a pool with openID for this reason (and maybe even because he was not sure about the security of giving his openID around). Moreover, since your browser use to remember the account that you are using on other open tabs, with openID you could easily end using your "main" account a bit too liberally/frequently.

I have read that others do not like to link their google id with a wallet for privacy reasons.

So why not create a secondary google (or whatever other openid) account?

I have read that others do not like to link their google id with a wallet for privacy reasons.
Maybe an optional alternative way to subscribe could be a good idea.

BTW: any news about merging with a larger pool?

2698  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU Fans buzzing on: December 24, 2011, 11:08:11 PM
"fun problem" #2.
There is no good way to re-oil the squirrel cage type fans.  The bearings are internal and it looks like the rotor is forced into fan assembly under pressure durring assembly.  I didn't want to pull too hard but I found no way to gain access to the bearings.  There is no oiling port under any sticker.

My guess is the fan is assembled to never be taken apart.  If you can find a replacement fan you can "easily" (see fun problem #1) but there is no good way to clean the "reference style" fans.  The only good news is it looks like 5850, 5870, 5970 all use the same fan.

Maybe drilling a small hole on the top of the fan with a dremel to spill oil inside might be a good idea?
2699  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Power Supply Calculations on: December 21, 2011, 05:28:54 PM
I am planning to install a Radeon HD 5830 + a Radeon HD 5750 in one of my rigs, which has a Cooler Master rs-500-psap-j3 PSU
At the moment this system runs fine mining 24/7 with a Radeon HD 5870 @965/300

From this PSU calculator http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/index.jsp I get that the "Recommended PSU Wattage: *" is 365W, which sounds feasible for my PSU.

Alternatively, since I am too bankrupt for an high end PSU, I think that I might use an old Codegen 400w that I have running around to power a Radeon.
What do you think?
