2681  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin slumps as China bans all cryptocurrency transactions on: September 25, 2021, 02:04:36 PM
Quote
The country is home to a large concentration of the world’s crypto miners and as recently as April had a 46% share of the global hash rate, a measure of computing power used in mining and processing, according to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index.
Didn't China ban bitcoin mining or was that law rescinded?  I don't keep up with what China is doing as far as cryptocurrency goes, and I'm not sure that I could even if I tried.

In any case, the Bloomberg article I read yesterday about this story in this thread said that China's goal in banning its citizens from trading crypto is to reduce the country's carbon emissions or some such thing.  I have a feeling that's not the whole truth, and I don't trust anything the Chinese government says anyway.  Hell, I don't even trust anything my government says, either.

I do think the China news was responsible for bitcoin's dip in the past few days, because there were probably a lot of Chinese traders/investors who sold their coins in anticipation of the law being enacted or enforced.  And even though China accounts for a large number of bitcoin users, I don't think this will be a long-lasting price depression.  Bitcoin has bounced back from worse news before, and it's proven to be resilient over the years.  Buy on the cheap!
2682  Other / Meta / Re: Blast Spam on: September 25, 2021, 01:13:07 PM
Definitely an alt army! Rainbowkun army of alt account was a big one. Account farming is a way to cheat and monetize the forum. How many of the accounts are in signature campaign and bounty? DT can neutral tag the accounts
Rainbowkun and his alts weren't spamming like this Pegasus idiot is doing.  That alt ring actually made some decent posts, at least the ones that weren't plagiarized.  The current spammer is doing exactly that--spamming the same thing over and over.

There's no need for anyone to tag these accounts, since they're probably just throwaways which the person who owns them will likely never use again after they're banned (which I assume they will be).  And this isn't the first--or even the 10th--time this has happened.  I remember a few years ago there were a number of spammers who would constantly post advertisements for male-enhancement products and some that just posted gibberish.  Why they pick this forum is beyond me.  Probably because of the traffic.
2683  Economy / Economics / Re: CHINA Banning bitcoin: PBOC Says All Crypto-Related Transactions Are Illegal on: September 25, 2021, 03:28:14 AM
The uncertainty is if they will ever enforce it, that's where the doubts might be  Grin
Sure, whenever a law is enacted you can always question whether the government is going to enforce it or not....but how many people are going to be willing to take the chance?  I guess to answer my own question, a lot of it would depend on what the penalties are for breaking the law.  Has China made any sort of statement as to what they're going to do with people who continue to own/trade crypto?

Same old same old, China banning Bitcoin. This sums it up Cheesy
They didn't actually outright ban crypto transactions before, did they?  I remember when they banned mining (and ICOs too if I'm not mistaken), but this is new and much more restrictive than any laws they'd previously passed AFAIK.

And to those saying too bad, so sad to China and this law: just wait until your country passes a similar law.  All it would take is the political will to do so and the stroke of a pen.  Plus this is a big blow to bitcoin; China isn't exactly a small country, and if their citizens can't use crypto that eliminates a lot of bitcoin users.
2684  Economy / Economics / Re: How has inflation affected your savings and investing? on: September 25, 2021, 01:17:09 AM
Have you had to cut down on your expenses so as to maintain the percentage of your income you allocate to savings & investing?, Or you have adjusted the percentage for savings and investing so as to accommodate and maintain your standard of living?
Usually people don't cut down on their expenses in order to invest more--and if they do that, it's a stupid move.  That's how traders/investors get into trouble, because they've got way more skin in the market than they should.  You should always take care of your expenses first, and then (and only then) invest in whatever if you've got cash left over.

Me?  I haven't been investing in much of anything as of late, but that's not strictly due to inflation but personal circumstances.  However, I have seen the prices of things I buy regularly going up and up.  One other thing I've seen is that manufacturers are shrinking the size of their products, whether it's peanut butter or bottled watter--and they're charging the same amount.  That's a sneaky way to inflate prices if you ask me.
2685  Economy / Reputation / Re: Suspected Hero and Legendary account fraud on: September 24, 2021, 09:35:40 PM
Total amount : $8100
If you paid that amount for two bitcointalk accounts you're a sucker, plain and simple.  And if you got scammed in the process, that's what you get for trying to bypass the merit/activity system in obtaining a higher-ranked account.

for the time being I will not publicly provide evidence until they actually return the account I have purchased. but i will if they trick me.
Go ahead if you want to, but I'm pretty sure most members here don't care one whit that you got scammed, because buying forum accounts is shady.  There's nothing good that comes from it; at the very least, there'll be another shitposter earning money from signature campaigns, and at worst the account reputation can be leveraged to scam someone who believes they're dealing with the original owner.  So you suffered the consequences of your own decision--and you overpaid big time, my man.
2686  Other / Meta / Re: Donate option for bitcointalk staff on: September 24, 2021, 07:15:58 PM
Do you think such a feature will be useful ?
No, because bitcoin as a tipping mechanism hasn't caught on, and if it hasn't by now it's never going to.  This has also been brought up before, though not in a long while.  Theymos isn't likely to implement any sort of feature like what you suggested--he hasn't added features that would add a lot more value to the forum as it is, so being able to tip mods or anyone else is off his to-do list.

As has been mentioned, a lot of members have their bitcoin address in their profile, so you can donate bitcoin to them if you want to.  Most people don't do that, though, which is why a tipping feature would be bound to fall into disuse.
2687  Economy / Reputation / Re: GeorgeJohn and Ebede (1xbit scam promoter) are alts or not? on: September 24, 2021, 12:18:48 PM
I'm sure these two people aren't the only ones that have posted with the Delta symbols.
Maybe not, but damned if I've seen the delta symbol used in lieu of a bullet point on the forum (or anywhere else for that matter).  That's what you'd call good supporting evidence if you're trying to link accounts, because even if someone is trying to write in a different style when using alt accounts, there's usually something that gives them away, and this looks like one of those dead giveaways (IMO).

I don't see any related addresses, transactions, or ban evasion, and the copy/past proof of authentication is a typical blunder that anybody can do. OP What exactly are you hoping to accomplish with this thread?
He's trying to link two accounts, one of which has been banned.  That would mean a ban on the active account if the mods agree with his argument, in case you didn't know.
2688  Other / Meta / Re: Banned words as usernames on: September 24, 2021, 11:52:21 AM
Aside from impersonation-types of usernames, I'm fairly sure that anything goes--including curse words.  I think I've come across quite a few of those kinds of usernames in the past, so the forum isn't exactly censoring selection based on language.

This is an interesting kind of thread and not something I'd ever really considered before, not even that usernames with "satoshi" in them were forbidden.  I definitely didn't know that, and it's kind of a nice gesture to reserve that specific string of characters for bitcoin's founder.

There are similar usernames on the forum, like for example darklord & DARKlord, people may assume the two account is controlled by one person or one is the alt of the other. A neutral tag by the older account solves the problem.
I'd say a negative tag is more appropriate if the usernames are similar enough such that there's a high probability that the newer account is trying to impersonate the older one.  That's happened a number of times since I've been a member here.

2689  Economy / Reputation / Re: iv4n: Looking for feedback - should the negative tag remain? on: September 24, 2021, 11:19:06 AM
Noone pays attention to those reviews, least I wouldn't think so.
I don't know about that, I really don't.  I'm pretty sure a thread like the one OP linked to wouldn't show up on any Google result (at least not in the first few pages), there is a non-negligible chance that someone could find it and base their decision to visit 1xbit and deposit money there on it.

I also think a negative trust is a bit harsh.  I have mixed feelings about tagging 1xbit campaign participants and won't do it personally, much less tagging someone voicing his opinion on that casino in a thread that asks for opinions.  That's being overzealous IMO....but JollyGood, I'll tell you: I won't complain for a minute if you keep the tag in place, because his idiotic opinion and that begging for bitcoin deem him a complete parasite in my eyes, and it'd be better if that negative trust inhibited him from joining sig campaigns/bounties in the future.

The trust system is yet again being used to control the shitposter/moron problem, just like it was prior to 2018.  I don't know if the merit system has lost effectiveness or what, but if it's not keeping the problem in check then I think we need a better solution than tagging members like this.  Anyway, I'm fine if you don't remove that feedback, JollyGood.
2690  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone tried to what looks like groom me. on: September 24, 2021, 12:42:44 AM
If you're accusing someone, you better provide some evidence. This is some serious allegations (although I'm still not clear what you mean by "groom me" exactly).
Thank you for stating that more strongly than I wanted to.  I hate to say it, but just based on what OP wrote it seems like a giant leap to think that because of a single PM someone is "grooming" him.  That's also why I want to see the PM, but I'm not even sure if OP is going to come back to this thread.  It is indeed a serious accusation.

But you did it here
Ugh.  OP, that's the kind of stuff you might not want to post anywhere on the internet, and I'm not even talking about attracting perverts (though that's part of it).  If you're at school daydreaming about being online gambling, I'd say you've got a problem that needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later--plus I'm pretty sure it's not legal for you to be gambling at your age.  You're just going to attract all sorts of negativity, and your words written on this site are permanently linked with you if someone knows your real identity.  I don't even want to know how you get money to gamble.

OK, I'm done being the stern random internet father figure.  Lol.
2691  Economy / Economics / Re: Money and wealth as the major religions in world. on: September 24, 2021, 12:21:51 AM
Speak for yourself mate. We all want money and there is no doubt about that, but for every rational and sane person, there are quite a few things like family, loved ones, spouse, good health and love, that may just come ahead of making money.
If only those things did come before money for a lot of people, but if the internet is anything to go by, it doesn't seem like that's the case.  I can't even watch a random Youtube video without hearing about how much money people are making by being "influencers" and it drives me crazy.  I probably need to get some fresh air, if you know what I mean.

I don't know what OP's point is either, but keep in mind that this is a forum about bitcoin.  It's a given that many members here are concerned about money, whether it's having enough, making more, or just interest in discussions about economics.  Hell, I'd even go so far as to say that most members of bitcointalk are trying to earn money right on this site.  Welcome to the forum, OP.
2692  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scam] Gomatoken.com ~ Rug Pull to be. on: September 23, 2021, 10:16:39 PM
I'm still owed about 1 trillion GOMA tokens from the bounty management (it's a bit more) which right now is worth roughly 29 BNB.
OMG....I'm in the wrong line of work if that's what you get paid for being a bounty manager!  Is that typical?  29 BNB is just about $11,100 at the current price.  And I guess you answered the second question I was going to ask, which is whether you get paid in advance for managing the bounty program.  I'm surprised you don't require up-front payment.

This is just a warning, do not invest in GOMA. Do not invest in TORII.FINANCE. If you ever come across the user "Dean" - Run away as fast as you can and don't enter into any dealings with him.
Yeah, I don't plan on it.  In fact I'd never even heard of GOMA or the other thing before I came across this thread.  Those communications are unprofessional at best, and at worst they're the writings of a scammer doing exactly what you said--pushing blame on others and also stalling for time.

We understand the frustration, all we can do is apologize.

We messed up, we have made 200 payments today, we are nearly there. SORRY for the inconvenience.
Wow.  Sounds like a sincere apology.  But apparently it's an empty one, because nobody received any of their payments.  Can you produce blockchain evidence of payments being made?
2693  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone tried to what looks like groom me. on: September 23, 2021, 09:29:14 PM
You received a PM from this guy on bitcointalk?  I usually wouldn't ask for a PM to be posted in a thread, but in a case like this where you're kinda-sorta accusing him of trying to "groom" you, I think you should.  It sounds like he specifically mentioned your age, and I'd like to know in what context he did that.

This is the first time I've seen anything like this, likely because this forum isn't exactly the place where a pervert would be looking for underage boys.  Not saying it couldn't happen, but I'd want more info before making a judgement against excro.  Never heard of him before, either.
2694  Other / Meta / Re: Ban evasion. on: September 23, 2021, 05:13:56 PM
Unfortunately there are alot of users who don't understand what a perma ban is. They think they can just create a new alias and all is well.
They think that because the reality is that they can probably get away with it--unless they get sniffed out by the forum detectives.  It's too damn easy for banned members to create new accounts and start over.  I don't know if there's anything that can be done about that or not, but I do know that nothing is being done.

Did this joker BlackViruse actually evade a ban or not?  Sounds like he's speaking pidgin English, so it's hard to understand but it does appear that he did get banned and created a new account--or at least that's what he's recommending others do.
2695  Economy / Reputation / Re: My bitcointalk account got misused by my friend on: September 23, 2021, 04:52:04 PM
The fact that you gave your account or not, we cannot verify this now. Your excuses are popular enough and are no longer interesting.
This is pretty much the long and short of this situation--OP is coming back here claiming his "friend" is responsible for a campaign of shitposts and doesn't want to be held accountable for what he (or that friend) did with his account.

OP, you've been a member here long enough to know that you're not going to garner any sympathy or support.  The only thing you're going to get are posts like mine, lovesmayfamilis's, and all the others telling you that you're stuck with the consequences of whatever you did.  If you really did lend your account to a friend, that was a stupid thing to do, but that was your choice and those negative trusts are yours.

Only way for you out of this would be just like what others mentioned above. Contribute and see where it goes. It is not gonna be a fast solution for sure.
That's unlikely to happen, but who knows.  I agree that getting those negs removed isn't going to come quickly.
2696  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I find signature campaigns ? on: September 23, 2021, 03:51:38 PM
I used to join the 777coin and 99.9% of the refs were dead.
I don't know if you're going to see this post or not, but what do you mean by that (99.9% of refs being dead)?

Tbh It feels pretty harsh to get negative rep just cause you joined some signature campaign  Huh
Harsh?  Maybe, but if people know they're advertising a scam service like 1xbit--and have been given warning that they'll be tagged if they continue to advertise for that service--I'd say it's fair for them to get tagged.  There has to be a way for people to warn the community about scam exchanges/gambling sites/whatever, and the trust system is pretty much the only way to do it.
2697  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Robinhood launching crypto wallets with commission-free trading on: September 23, 2021, 02:18:04 PM
Since when does identity verification protect your coins from the threat of hacking or makes it safer to store your crypto?
Uh, yeah.  Robinhood has absolutely no idea what they're doing as far as crypto is concerned--or they're dressing up the language to make it appear that all that KYC info is supposed to keep your coins safe (which is probably what they're doing).

I don't trust Robinhood as far as I can throw them, not after the GME debacle.  And they've offered crypto trading for a while now, just not the ability to withdraw coins.  Is that something they're offering now?  If not, this is no big deal.  If they are letting customers withdraw their coins, you'd better believe those coins are going to be tracked by Robinhood and/or the government.  This might appeal to all the current Robinhood customers who just want to day trade, but I doubt many people on bitcointalk are going to find any value in whatever Robinhood is up to.
2698  Economy / Reputation / Re: I was Negatively tagged by Jollygood, I didn't break any rules on: September 22, 2021, 11:13:26 PM
<snip>
So you've mastered the art of circumlocution, that much is clear.  I wanted a straight answer to my very simple question and you give excuses that have nothing to do with you lying about being a newbie in the Beginners & Help section.

Now I'm inclined to think JollyGood's feedback on you is much deserved.  Peace out.
2699  Economy / Reputation / Re: I was Negatively tagged by Jollygood, I didn't break any rules on: September 22, 2021, 10:57:24 PM
I didn't deny that, please look at the first quote. I admitted to lovesmayfamilis and I apologise for that and despite that and even when I rank up and I created a thread about that, what more can I apologise even after making it public to everyone that I made a mistake and corrected that.
OK, I see a bunch of English word shitsalad in which you didn't deny lying--but you didn't admit to it, either.

So you're saying you blatantly lied about being new to the forum, correct?  Just to be clear on that.

And please stop quoting a bunch of irrelevant text when replying.
2700  Economy / Reputation / Re: This 2 account Connected on: September 22, 2021, 10:52:39 PM
I admit that these two accounts are mine but I haven't used them for a long time. I am an insignificant bounty hunter in the forum. Bounty makes a living by campaigning. So yours Please neutralize my account considering my direction. I no longer use those two accounts. Please, as a judge, I request you to release my account.
Goddamn I hope you get banned.  I just reported two of your posts as being zero-value shitposts:

PayPal, one of the world's leading transfer companies, has increased its acceptance of bitcoin. PayPal's recognition of Bitcoin as a medium of transaction is aimed at increasing the popularity of Bitcoin. Will play a groundbreaking role.
To me, cryptocurrency trading is much better than cryptocurrency investing. Because a few days ago by investing in cryptocurrency, I faced considerable losses. So I no longer cryptocurrency I don't invest without understanding.

You're obviously just cranking out posts at a rapid pace with generic platitudes that add nothing to the threads which they're in.  Can someone please look deep into this dude's history and see if he's cheated in a bounty **derp, looks like he did** or plagiarized something....?  I'd do it myself if I wasn't ready to sleep.  I'd bet my britches he's done one or the other, but either way he's a menace to the forum and needs to just leave.
