First review of the Ledger Unplugged NFC contactless card wallet

Watched the second video which you made a transaction through mycelium and i am surprised how fast was it, i may order in upcoming weeks an unplugged ledger.

If you get one make sure to post how well it works with your model phone. I could make it work with my Nexus but I had to work at it.

Is it possible to spend out of an offline Electrum wallet? Is there a tutorial out there?
Sorry if this question has been asked before, but all I could find was a link to a tutorial the is not working (404).
Thanks

Stop opening these threads of pure nonsense. I was actually expecting a proper thread when I read the title.

Thank you. This thread is proof that Legendary rank is not worth a farthing.
2706  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Contemplating buying some mining equipment. But can I make any ROI really? on: November 28, 2015, 07:55:05 PM
Sorry but you need to realize your power costs are just too high. You would be better off buying mining power on Hashnest. S5 is a bargain right now.
2707  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Cloud Services on: November 28, 2015, 06:04:33 PM
One of the very few cloud mining providers I can recommend is Genesis Mining.
They've gone out of their way to prove that they are actually mining and  they've been pretty transparent about their operation.

If their plans will be profitable is another question Smiley

Genesis Mining is probably the worst deal you can find. Why? Once you buy hash you are stuck with it. They prey on new miners who do not take the time to research the alternatives. At least when you buy from Hashnest you can turn around and sell on their exchange same day if you wish. Genesis Mining has nothing to compare with Hashnest offerings. Hashnest also has no affiliate program which is a plus.

Can you use electrum straight with the electrum wallet once the trezor is setup? Will the electrum "detect"  the usb connection of the trezor?

Yes.
2709  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Cloud Services on: November 26, 2015, 06:41:39 PM
Just recently, I found this website called bitcoincloudservices and when I decide to purchase a few terrahash. It is asking me to pay 11.0000 ฿, which is 11.0 Thai Baht, according to the symbol. But when I received an email for the order receipt, they said I have to pay "Amount (BTC): 11.0." So, at this moment I am a bit confused on how much I have to pay, 11.0 ฿ Thai Baht (or 0.000894 BTC at the time of this post) or 11.0 BTC.

I wrote about this company no longer paying back in June. Bitcoin Cloud Services is a ponzi you should avoid. If you really want to buy hosted bitcoin mining stick with legit services like Hashnest. Also consider to never buy mining power from a company that does not have an exchange where you can sell your hash if you change your mind and want out. This leaves out companies like Genesis Mining.
2710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase and credit cards on: November 26, 2015, 05:44:45 PM
I have a couple of questions about using a credit card on Coinbase:
What types of cards do they accept? (Is it just Visa?)
What are the fees for using a credit card?
What is their refund policy for credit cards?
I'm probably being stupid, but I've had a look on their website and can't seem to find the answer. Thanks in advance!  Grin

2711  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to install a new version? on: November 25, 2015, 11:51:11 PM
Can I uninstall the old version after I installed the new one or should I uninstall the old before?
I am scared of uninstallation, I don't know where the wallet is stored.

If you are updating the new version should overwrite old without a problem. However it is always a good idea to backup your wallet file before updating as accidents happen. You need to turn on the option to view hidden files and folders to see the Electrum wallet file and then go to C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\. Old versions will have a wallet.dat file and new versions will just have default_wallet in the Electrum folder.
2712  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Armory vs Trezor on: November 25, 2015, 10:54:50 PM
A hardware wallet is considered much more safer than a software wallet, so i would not move from Trezor to Armory, you are good staying at Trezor, but if you want to experiment with wallets then why not.

Armory used for cold storage is a hardware wallet, the offline computer takes the place of Trezor. If you are using Trezor already there is no need to move to Armory unless you are really concerned about the privacy issue Carlton addressed. For most users it is not a problem at all. If you want to use cold storage with Armory you will need two computers and Armory support is not as good as it once used to be. If Armory ever supports Trezor to sign transactions that would be the perfect combination but don't hold your breath, it may never happen.
2713  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Trojan Wallet stealer be careful on: November 25, 2015, 07:02:10 PM
There is a (new?) trojan wallet stealer out in the wild ATM.

Plenty of script kiddies and scammers are going to be trying to get you to download and install it, what's more they'll be putting posts to do so (using lies obviously).

Don't install anything linked to on this forum, unless it's been found by someone with a good reputation to be legit. Assume everything is an attempt to steal your wallet.

You should also encrypt your wallet when not in use.
http://www.freeotfe.org/

Here is a portable apps version http://www.freeotfe.org/downloads/FreeOTFEExplorer_3_51.paf.exe

You have been warned.

Nefario

Encrypting your wallet when not in use is no protection as you have to decrypt to use it. Trojans lie in wait until an unencrypted wallet.dat is found, and some also have keyloggers to steal your password. I have been preaching bitcoin hardware wallets for a year now to encourage using Trezor or Ledger to move private keys off your laptop or phone. Once you have your bitcoin stolen you will become a believer.
2714  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Launches First Bitcoin Debit Card on: November 25, 2015, 06:52:44 PM
Not to mention Shift card should be reliable at US merchant terminals. Bitcoin debit cards issued by foreign banks can be problematic.
Yes.  Once I get my card in about a week I will do a good test run.  I will buy gas, groceries, shop at Walmart, etc.... and I will post about the experience(s).

The only thing I will stay away from is large (Amazon) or tiny (fly by nights I don't know) Internet transactions.  Debit Cards are NOT made for internet transactions due to the increased liability risks that using a Debit Card has (as opposed to a Credit Card that has much greater liability/fraud protections.)  For example - if you buy 10 things from Amazon, then your card can be split out into many transactions via many vendors - even though you give the card once on a single transaction.  That is how my Credit Card was fraudulently accessed recently.  $1500 worth of bad purchases - but I disputed and it was reversed.  Because it was never directly linked to funds (like Debit Card) - I didn't lose access to any of my actual funds - not even for a second.  So I will be putting tighter spending controls on this Shift-Coinbase/Bitcoin Debit Card.

Debit Cards for local onsite purchases.  Credit Cards for Internet transactions.

I think the next step will be to have a real Credit Card that will directly accept balance payoffs in Bitcoin.  When I see that happen - I am transferring everything I own into bitcoin.  I am sincerely hoping this Debit Card thing works with few hiccups, some of my concerns already outlined in earlier post.  But it is a start.

Peace,
- david

If you buy from Amazon you really should be using Purse.io. I use it all the time to buy with bitcoin and get free Amazon Prime shipping. Never had a problem with the service.

2716  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Armory vs Trezor on: November 25, 2015, 04:30:54 PM
I have a question about Trezor, which I am thinking about migrating the majority of our bitcoins to.

I honestly don't really care about security issues - because I feel very good about that having studied and read up on this for weeks.  However if anyone wants to throw out any major flaws that aren't well known feel free.

My primary question is hypothetical in nature and involves the hypothetical demise of Trezor itself, as a company.  My question/concern is EXCLUSIVELY related to what would happen if Trezor went out of business.  It appears to me that things like "recovery" etc all require the mytrezor.com website.  Now, there are all sorts of claims that you can use electrum, armory, and other wallets that are integrated with Trezor hardware wallets directly - but I also see enormous complaints/comments about a lot of this being hype and that many of these don't actually work.  I would like to hear people's experience / knowledge on the subject.

Also, as the ultimate backup in the face of wierd events..... does Trezor work with Core?

Any thoughts appreciated as I am about to purchase many Trezor wallets.  I should note that I do not use iOS/Droid.  I am a desktop only.  I think one thing that annoys me is when people make blanket statements about what something can or cannot do, and do not specify their sub-technology (subtec).  Some stuff seems to work with iOS, or with Android, or with Desktop, etc.... but not with others.  Please confirm your subtec applicability

Peace,
- david

Recovery only requires the 24 word seed phrase you copy down when you set up your Trezor for the first time. In an HD bitcoin wallet think of the seed as your bitcoin, as all addresses and keys you will ever use derive from the seed. The plastic hardware is just a way to make the seed usable for transactions. If SatoshiLabs went tits up (doubtful) you can restore your wallet to Electrum using the seed.
I am familiar with the "seed" process.  I am also familiar with a TON of web complaints I have seen out there that Electrum has problems with restoring.  I also see from Satoshi Labs own website that restoring would require a new Trezor if yours was stolen/lost/damaged.

However, the process of activating a new Trezor device seems to mandate use of the mytrezor website.

So here is my hypothetical (which while I admit may be extreme - I want to understand ALL possibilities before I commit substantial funds to this)....

My Trezor is damaged, and Satoshi Labs has gone out of business.  Then what?

See recovering funds without Trezor device. You can also use Multibit HD if you have not added a passphrase. I have already tested and confirmed. Suggest you do what I did, buy a three pack of Trezors to get the discount and try out every scenario you can imagine to understand how Trezor works and keeps your bitcoin safe.

Thanks for the link. That is a mirror site of bitcointalk.org probably set up to steal your log in credentials. Could a mod weigh in here please?
2718  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Armory vs Trezor on: November 25, 2015, 04:12:35 PM
You can set up Armory for cold storage but will need two computers: one has your Armory watching only wallet and the offline computer has the portion of Armory that holds your private keys and signs transactions. You use a USB drive to shuttle transactions between the two components. Also realize that Armory runs on top of Bitcoin Core so your laptop will need a local copy of the blockhain. Armory for cold storage is not more secure than Trezor, but is more private. That is the advantage Armory has over Trezor. Armory devs keep promising Trezor support so you can use your Trezor with Armory, maybe someday:)

This comment made me more interested to explore and use Armory in the future as I have always used blockchain.info as my wallet. I did planned to get Trezor but it's not locally available.

Trezor can not be bought in stores, you have to order directly from the company in Europe. They can ship anywhere in a couple of days just choose the DHL express shipping option.

2720  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Launches First Bitcoin Debit Card on: November 25, 2015, 03:54:34 PM
It's a fiat credit card branded by a company that exchanges Bitcoin. So what?  I have a Visa card branded by my insurance carrier, an airline and my alma mater. Any company can do that. They could take the credit card info for a card you currently hold, have you sign an agreement and debit/credit that card whenever you trade Bitcoin. They don't need a branded card to do it. That's just a gimmick.

NOT a Credit Card.  a DEBIT CARD.  Not a gimmick either.  If it were a simple gimmick, then everyone would be offering them.  This is a major entry into the US financial network.  Not simple, and not to be taken lightly.  It is a very big step into main stream use in the U.S.   One of the reasons I will watch this carefully is that if Bitcoin ever actually begins to become accepted in the U.S. - then you are going to see it begin to takeoff.  This is a small but substantial step.... integrating bitcoin into the existing financial network.

Also - to be considered is the fact that Debit Cards under U.S. law are much more risky to use than Credit Cards.  As I said, a small step - but an important one.  I suggest serious U.S. Bitcoin users get a card, set a small limit ($100 - $500) daily use limit for safety and security sake - but start using it - IF you want to see your existing Bitcoins continue to rise in value - and one day actually explode in value.

Bitcoin will either die, or become a small-player / back-alley altcoin (as it is replaced by a fiatcoin that is already being worked on behind scenes), OR it will literally do the $10,000/$100,000/$1,000,000 Coin thing.  Integrated use into the system via this Debit Card step is a big step towards a $1,000,000 Bitcoin value.

The faster Bitcoin gets integrated, the harder it will be for any eventual Fiatcoin to dislodge it.   Use it or lose it.

Peace,
- david

This is a game changer for sure. Shift has been around for a few years as the card was in beta. You would think they would have had ample time to get regulatory approval in all states before rolling out to the general public. Right now the card can be shipped to less than half of US states.
