Someone provided a Windows build of cgminer-gekko back when the first Compacs rolled out. I know it worked because I bench-tested the first couple thousand sticks with it. Check the early pages of the support thread.

I also don't know how well it works on Windows 10. I don't know how well anything works on Windows 10, or if Windows 10 even works. I probably never will.

VH said he'd put up download links and a software support thread or some such by the time the proof 2Pacs have gone out to reviewers. I should have had those out already but I've been seriously backed up, but that'll probably happen by Tuesday.

That's good news.

I have the Linux build for the 1 chip stick.

The windows build worked for both 7 and 10 but as you added sticks they ran worse.
I had and still have monster usb hubs. And the issue left with the Linux build.

So I need to look for the the new build and test the 1 pac with the 2 pac.

What are the Msi rx 480's. A ten pack.

Are they 4gb? Are they 8gb?

Any luck on getting picture of the Motherboard to see part # or what brand they are using?

The board is their board as far as I can tell you can not source the board.

I will do a full teardown  on Monday or Tuesday.  parts are due on monday  but  amazon in their infinite wisdom used the post office to ship them  and tomorrow is a Fed Holiday  so I think it gets to me on tues.

I hope to have quiet fans soon.

I hope to confirm the cpu is soldered and not upgradeable or  custom socket and can be removed.  Most likely the cpu is soldered.
27065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Burning PSU cable on: January 15, 2017, 03:14:17 PM
you did not read the review.

you are using the  hdd  cables not the pcie  cables  the review clearly states to use the pcie cables not the hdd/sata/molex garbage.

only use pcie cables on the risers. each card gets a feed from the pcie cable  on the riser. do not deal with the shit cables

Sorry, I didn't saw the PCI on the risers!
I buy 6 risers for 66 euros, I should received them 26 Jan, will test them for a week and if it's great I will send you tip

So you are saying that your molex connector got burnt ( or your PCI connector got burnt?)
Can you take a better picture to show what is broken and where is it burnt?

Which motherboard are you using? If it is H81 (as you are having 6 RX480s per mobo so my guess is that it is H81btc pro) then do not power your motherboard through molex power connectors. If you power that molex on motherboard it will burn due to some weird problem.

I use a lot of those boards and there is nothing wrong in powering those with a simple sata connector and PCIe to the USB riser. Make sure that you are using only one sata port per USB riser. DO NOT use sata extender (used to power multiple HDDs) to connect multiple USB risers. If needed use Molex to sata converter but dont put too many connections on one line.

...Waiting for the pictures ...

I use EVGA 550W to power mobo and sub risers (all 6 of them) and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/94-Platinum-1200-Watt-Power-Supply-Kit-for-GPU-Open-Rig-Mining-Ethereum-ZEC-/371643723687 to power all my graphics cards through PCI-express slots.
Its a platinum rated PSU so wastage of electricity is wayy too less.

Take a look :
The last one has burn
I use 2 riser on one cable (4xSATA).

I'm using H81 pro btc, you guess well
Are you sure I need to not power my motherboard with 2 molex ?
How many riser can I connect on 1 cable with 4xSATA ?

no risers to the 4xSata cables

Funny story.

With all the talk about crappy riser connectors why not put a 6 pin connector right on the riser card?
It eliminates the need for an adapter cable and excess connectors. No molex, no sata just the PCIe
direct from the PSU.

that is what these cards have Grin

we dont use the sata to six pin  most of use use a second  psu  and go pcie to riser and pcie to gpu.

that is isolated from the mobo  and the only connection to the mobo is the usb to pcie 1x  on the mobo

It is not easy replace mobile CPU in BGA1168 socket (soldered)- is needed specialized equipment, knowledge and skill to do.

and why do you think it is soldered?

it may be soldered.

as I said the cpu is accessible .

all bga socket CPUs are soldered.
Look to some video how to replace BGA CPUs in notebooks...

Most not all.  There are pin sockets that can work and are used for development since this is a custom product with a small build. We have no idea that the CPU is  soldered until someone removes the heat sink and let's us know.

Check  wiki for difficulty in development of mobos with bga sockets near the end of their bga entry.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_grid_array#Difficulties_with_BGAs_during_circuit_development

I have used rework Gear and if these are soldered. I would leave them alone.

More then likely it is soldered but it was a small run maybe they did not solder the CPU.

I did a lot of mac mini upgrades  and apple kiiled it off  for me by soldering the cpus in 2009 then the ram in 2014.

I tired to do some rework upgrades  with the 2014s but it was hard and said fuck apple.

all in all if it is soldered in (likely not sure)  they should upgrade the next edition. there is a decent  upgrade in the same class of celeron's

this is better
http://ark.intel.com/products/84812/Intel-Celeron-Processor-3765U-2M-Cache-1_90-GHz

then the one it comes with

I will take a look at cpu when I get my parts to control the fans.

LOOK INSIDE! those screws release the heatsink of the cpu and I have looked at them.

So I can tell you  you may be right the cpu was soldered in but it is accessible and I am not certain it was soldered in.

Not all mobile cpus are soldered in.

I am 90% sure manual control of fan speed can be done with a few parts from amazon

one of these
https://www.amazon.com/DROK-Voltage-Regulator-Converter-1-2-36V/dp/B00C4QVTNU/ref=sr_1_3?

and some of these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CDKSV3C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?

Can it be controller with this - http://a.co/4YaLbiD?

So no need in controllers and cables

no  for a few reasons  there are 9 fans  the controller you list does 4 fans

you would need 3 of them.

I also need to check how much  power you can use with your controller.

Right now having used ones like the kingwin  I know they can not do well with beefy fans.  the deltas in the   pandaminer can do .8 amps each.

Maybe The six channel model can work

http://www.kingwin.com/fpx-006/

it can do 20 watts fans

the fpx 001  can only do an 8 watt fan so it is not good.

http://www.kingwin.com/cooling/fan-controllers/fpx-001-2/

the fpx 005 specs as 8 watt fans no good.

http://www.kingwin.com/fpx-005/

you would need a pair of these

Hi,
I've been having issues with my 2 rigs (12xRX480, 2x Lepa G1600w)(have driver 16.11.3)
Some of my modular cable from PSU are burning when they are connected to my powered risers (see photo)

This happens to me 3 times and it's always the same connector who burn
Should I use pci to molex converter to power my risers?
Could anyone help me?

Can pay 0.1 zec if anyone give me a great solution

there are two fan headers in the case.

below I can use a brick and the controller.

when I get more 3 pin cables I will test to see how this works.

I suspect  fans can be lowered a lot and make this a very small home miner.

If I can bypass headers on the mobo  you can feed that controller from your psu.

If I have to use the fan headers it would not be as clean.

here is a photo or three
see controller it measures 8.47 volts  note the two probes.

To the left is a box, it has a pot with a screw.  volts in are 13.18  I can drop to 5 volts via the pot

now it is 8.22 volts

i am using an external brick on the left  it is 91% eff.  the controller is 97% eff.   I do not know  if the mobo will say fuck you  if you leave the two 3 pin headers empty.  which is why I ordered enough cables to test this with the brick and with the headers

27073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Launches Global Sales! on: January 14, 2017, 09:44:55 PM

would be  manual.

mobo --  3 pin wire ---- controller ----  3 pin wire ---- fans      for the back 4 fans

mobo---  3 pin wire ---- controller ----  3 pin wire ---- fans    for the front 5  fans

Since my gpu's  are not hot  I know I can drop fans  to 11 volts  maybe 10 volts

After connecting controllers and cables - do you control through software in Windows?

would be  manual.

this is a home miner fix  for the pandaminer.

I believe  that  the linux  from eliovp  has a better fix.

I am still playing in the bios  to see what else I can do .

As for fan controls. The marketplace seller on newegg has not shipped my gear.  I can not tell you how annoying that a seller in Dayton NJ LESS THEN 50 miles from me does not ship timely. As I am almost certain his product would fix the fan issue for me.

My gpu heat sinks are not hot at all in the pandaminer. So I know I could drop fan speed a lot.

And here I am waiting for 12 freaking dollars of parts.

Are you going to buy a smth like a control box for fans?

I have a really good control option.  I needed 3 pin fan cables.

I ordered more fan cables from a different seller.

give me a few minutes to post the controller

this does 100 watts

this power supply

I have every part but the 3 pin wire

Shop is as good as done.

Monitor/management is also 99% done.

Working my but off to get this finished Smiley

Any ideas for pricing ?

Let me know this also.

Oh I finally got into the bios  and set machine to boot on power up  which  means the tiny power switch is more of a mute point.

I next need to figure setting for the hdmi  as I am using the   mobo one only  and the gpu one is not active as of now.
27077  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Launches Global Sales! on: January 14, 2017, 06:23:24 PM

Well I finally got into the bios and set the machine to boot on power up.

Or boot after a power failure.

My mistake of getting into bios was tapping. The delete key rapid fire vs just keeping it pressed.
So once I got into bios I was able to change just 1 setting.  The boot on power up. Allows me to fully avoid the tiny little power button.

I had read on threads this setting was possible and that getting the bios was possible.

I have exchanged emails with Zooey from pandaminer and they may develop more varied os. With English .

It was repeated several times that this miner is not for home mining. Is it due to noise? I have 6x RX 480 rig in room close to TV and have no problem with noise. I have a 4x RX 480 rig in my bedroom - and have no issue with noise.

Is PandaMiner really bad on it and cannot be placed inside the house (close to living room)?

it is louder then a normal rx 480 build.

the pitch is decent  but it is close to 70db.  the s9 is nasty and louder.

I know I can lower the fans I just have not bothered to as of yet.
27079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PandaMiner Launches Global Sales! on: January 14, 2017, 03:22:43 PM
lower resell value than standard PC componects

i wonder. mayhaps mxm gpus would have a higher resell value percentage wise compared to full desktop gpus? smaller market but then again not many for sale.

of course most would probably just buy a whole new laptop. dunno.

they fit in  some imacs  you  could sell them as an imac upgrade maybe maybe not.

the cpu is accessible.  and there are better models

comes with this list is 107

this is better but list is 281

the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on one of these is the MXM video cards, i am still trying to figure out upgradability :/
cause tbh, with how GPU's work, it will be no different than any other miner, it will NEED to upgrade to stay viable.
i would HATE to buy one of these, then VEGA drops and the possibilities open up. IF its easier to upgrade my own GPUS, ill stay with my own rigs

these are not for people who intend to upgrade them within less than a year - not sure what you expect to do with the used rx480 cards even if you did do the upgrade?

right, so why would these be appeasable ? just the plug and play thing?

hmm, interesting...

the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on one of these is the MXM video cards, i am still trying to figure out upgradability :/

@Phil. so are you looking at about 12 months+ ROI at 3k purchase price? IF not upgradable, that doesn't sound promising :/

My understanding is - you cannot easily upgrade MXM GPUs. Only source of them for customers will be on Ebay from users cannibalized their laptops.

I would gladly be wrong on it

thats what i was thinking, so i just dont see the reason to buy one of these myself then, except ya the plug and play thing, but wont it just be a paper weight by (if not b4) one even ROI's?
AMD has new cards coming, so does Nvidia, as always.  Maybe Pandaminer will have local distributors one can take their machine to for upgraded cards in the future, as the ONLY thing that matters to me mainly is upgradability of these. the rest is just meh, can do it myself for cheaper (and more fun).

This system has a handful of advantages over a custom mining rig with fullsize gpus:
1) its pretty much plug-n-play, whereas a custom rig can take a several hours longer to assemble, install OS/drivers, etc even when done en masse
2) higher power density. you can stack these in a tight space (like a datacenter)
3) fans should last a long time, and are otherwise replaceable (80mm server fans i assume?)

This system isnt really for home mining. its for those who want to install a large number of GPUs where power is cheap and openrigs are not accepted (or require too much maintenance).

theres no reason why the rx480 wont remain relevant to mining (even if better cards are released) for at least 2 years. look at the fact that the 2xx series and 79xx series have both been profitable on ethereum and/or zcash over the past few months. even if the mxm cards can be upgraded, its likely most buyers wont be buying upgrades for it until 2019 or beyond (the case/mobo/cpu is only a small part of the overall unit price anyways)

MXM cards dont resell easily i imagine - so by upgrading youd be putting your rx480 cards aside to gather dust. As mentioned, i have 3 270x cards that are still turning about $0.30/day/gpu profit. I bought them in ~2014 for the litecoin boom, so its been over two years and they are still relevant

That said, i dont see why pandaminer wouldnt be able to obtain and sell upgrade boards to its customers eventually. I bet they can get the MXM cards at a good price (should be cheaper than a full GPU), tack on a bit of profit, and still sell them for cheaper than a fullsize GPU in stores.

If pandaminer plays their card correctly  they will take over a big piece of the gpu market.
This is why I tried to help them out .

This will get support on many levels.
First off the fans are fully replaceable.
The cards are fully replaceable.
This is a pc plain and simple.

Yeah they need a better os.  Maybe they do linux.
The linux build + roms by Eliovp is really good.

AMD  would stand to sell a shit ton of mxm cards .

And I know that this does not need to be noisy.  you can reduce fan speed from 100% to 50%

Here are the weak points  2 usb jacks ------- easy to fix just plug in a small  usb hub.
Fans  are loud --------------------------------- easy to fix with correct os. I am doing some fan work today.
Power on button is small ---------------------- easy to do an end around with correct os.
OS is an unactivated windows 10 enterprise -  can be fixed with a linux os
uses a mobile cpu -----------------------------  we could be offered a choice of mobile cpus from them
uses a single stick of ram ----------------------  as tested by me you can switch from 4gb to 8gb I do not know of any gpu mining that needs more then 8gb

Strong points.
it is 40% the size of  two 4 card rigs.
the case is well built
is sound is not an issue  the fans  will keep it cool.
can be headless

a home miner can run these.
six of these   would fit on the rack below
so 24 full size gpus
would become 48 mxm gpus in the same space
