My question is, would the bitcoins system struggle to keep up with the growing number of transactions if it became widespread?
What do you mean "would" and "if"? This is already happening.

Amusing. Still trying. But becoming dumber. Now they're attacking from Millbury, MA on a Comcast HFC line.
I can see your house, dudes.

Ah well, should be over soon - or maybe not so soon Give it 4-6 weeks.

At least cadaver washing like for instance Jared Kenna's would work a lot better then.
Who's that? It sounds like a porn name.

Hey Zhang, thank you for taking the time to explain the situation - it's appreciated.
Maybe you can tell to your agent that this is important hardware, and that it is crucial to have tracking numbers the same day the packages are handled to DHL? They should be able to do that, even if it is likely to be an additional cost as it requires some manual work. But the cost of potential stolen packages because of thieves exploiting this vulnerability it's likely to be much higher, please consider that.
Just an idea to try to make everybody safer.
Please reread what zhang wrote and read between the lines this time. The Chinese mafia doesn't care if you get your money-printing machine now or never, the Chinese mafia is also not interested in customer service ratings, the Chinese mafia just provides a convenient relayment service between Bitsyncom and DHL. Bitsyncom can take it or leave it. Trying to tell the Chinese mafia how to do their job usually ends badly.

greyhawk, not sure if you solved this yet, but in looking through the security settings you can just restrict login to a set of IPs. If yours is static, add it and I suppose problem will be solved.
I actually don't really care, because there's nothing really in there, my assets are casascius-coined. I just found it funny. I did trace them back to what I would assume to be a virtual server hosted by OVH in Montreal, but lack the drive to go snoop some more with nothing at stake. Maybe later.

Are you getting messages because of a 2-factor login requirement, or does it just message you everytime someone gives the wrong password?
It's the 2 FA kicking in. Blockchain actually sends out the second code even before any password is entered.

*gets on blockchain.info for a 2FA DDOS against greyhawk*
*sends over private keys to be safed from the eternally dancing smart phone*

Again: At what point of that transaction would Western Union even be required?
At the point at which they use their lobbying connections to make it illegal for individuals to buy/sell Bitcoins without them. OH WAIT, YOU IDIOTS ARE ALREADY DOING A FINE JOB OF LOBBYING FOR THAT YOURSELVES. zzzz, if only everyone were as smart as you. Illegal to trade Bitcoins without them? That doesn't even make sense. He didn't say "trade". He said "buy/sell". World of a difference. And yes, illegality of operating as an exchange without being licensed to operate as an exchange is a very real possibility.

@Greyhawk. I don't know, I just know there's a way to find the places a BTC address has sent to.
You still say " a BTC adress". A bitcoin user can have a thousand BTC adresses or a million. Doesn't matter. Ideally you have new one for each transaction you make. With that at hand it's trivial to loop, split and merge any ill gotten gains through so many adresses that tracing is no longer realistically viable (though still theoretically possible).

Chrome is the ultimate spyware
And I love it for that. I can google for a new movie on my desktop, then completely forget about it and weeks later my phone will automagically remind me that "hey that movie you googled a while ago is now running in that theater near you". Without me doing anything. Or I look up a restaurant at lunchtime and later at dinnertime i'm in the area and my phone goes "dude that steak restaurant you looked up is like 20 minutes away thought you should know duder". Without me doing anything. Or when it's like half an hour before I usually leave work to go home and my phone going "Yeah, here's the thing. You know how you drive at x pm and take that route usually? That's gonna bite you in the ass today. I mean, just look at that traffic jam. Look at this shit. You'd better drive this way. Just saying". Without me doing anything. It's perfect and exactly what my phone should do. The lesson here is not: Google is evil. The lesson is: Security through Obscurity does never ever work.

Yes, they could blow everyone else out of the water and make an incredible amount of money in the process, but only if they have the intelligence and the balls to significantly alter their business model. Large corporations don't have a stellar track record when it comes to that, I'm afraid.
I don't really know how much they would have to alter their business model. They could just add bitcoin payment option via bit-pay to allow sending money with bitcoin, that would be fairly trivial. For the receiving end, they could partner with a company such as Bitinstant. Again: At what point of that transaction would Western Union even be required?

We need to be lobbying for them to adopt Bitcoin.
/facepalm Noooooo, please let him do it. Those are always amusing. BTC-User: "Hey WU, please take Bitcoins, ok?" WU: "What is a bitcoin and why should we accept it?" BTC-User: "It is a new currency that's intended to get rid of banks and other currency transaction providers. It'll be great. Everyone will be one's own bank." WU: "So what you're saying is we should accept a currency that's specifically built to put us out of business by circumventing us in the first place." BTC-User: "Yes, exactly. It will be wonderful. Hello? Hellllooooo? SirMadam? Where are you going? FUCKING HATERS. WE'LL SHOW YOU!"

You're not missing anything. It was just a Casascius Coin on a badly razorburned mons pubis.

- The block chain is getting spammed with tiny transactions of < 1 BTC by services like SatoshiDice etc. these are REALLY bad for the network, why don't they have internal accounting?!
Because SatoshiDice is a government three letter agency attempt to bring Bitcoin to its knees. Agent "Voorhees" is trying to split all bitcoins into itsy bitsy pieces of dust just like his namesake did with people.

He's full on deleted himself back to 25 posts, no doubt trying to erase all traces of his dealings.
Beautyful, is it not? Now imagine self-moderated thread had already been around earlier. Oh the wonderful cleaning sprees we would see. Hundreds of threads vanishing without a trace. The wailing and gnashing of victim's teeth all throughout the forum.
