2741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Full node usefulness ??? on: February 17, 2016, 01:52:02 PM
Is my node still useful even if it has never relayed first a transaction on the blockchain?

This sounds like something you have seen on blockchain.info. Their information hardly matters, they are just another node (with plenty of info about their state and a wallet service).

Your node constantly verifies and relays transactions for others. Open the debug.log (Help -> Debug Window -> "Open") and search for ERROR: AcceptToMemoryPool: to see which you did not relay. Enter getmempoolinfo in the console (Help -> Debug Window -> Console) to see how many you have relayed and are valid according to your nodes settings.

Are pruned nodes good for the bitcoin network even when they never relay transactions?  Huh

Yes, a pruned node still verifies and relays new blocks and all transactions. You cant help new nodes sync though and you cant currently use a pruned node as a wallet, but it still supports the network to run one.
2742  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Transaction rejected on: February 17, 2016, 12:31:36 PM
Klingt nach nem blockchain.info problem, soweit ich weiß gibt es kein Netzwerk-Limit für inputs.
2743  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Consolidating payments on: February 17, 2016, 12:03:44 PM
I noticed one guy had started a thread about a payment that took a very long time to confirm. The reason for this was that he had a lot of micropayments to cover the funds. If one has a lot of unspent micro-payments, is it worth transferring them to an alternative wallet to speed up any future payments. What is the chance of this going through with a zero fee. Obviously time to confirmation is not of importance.

I asked the similar question in the past. From what I understood, if you keep the micropayment "long" enough, the fee will become smaller when they are spent. Fee has something to do with the age of the unspents. Am I correct?

Not directly. Time coins have not been moved increase their priority. The larger the coin pile the faster it gets priority. In the past a "bitcoin day" worth of priority was enough to send a TX without fees. Im not sure if this is still the case. A bitcoin day is 1 BTC with 1 days worth of confirmations (144) in a single input (received as a single transaction and not via mutliple smaller ones).

If the priority of a transaction is too low you have to compensate with fees. Since the TX volume has significantly increased priority is only a very small factor and the fee is more important. Its not that you are competing with other high priority transactions to get into the small 50KByte (default core settings) reserved for TX without fee. Its that you compete with other TX paying a (high) fee to get into the block at all.

As you can see from the example I linked, its still possible to have a TX confirm without fee, but IMHO the bitcoin day rule of thumb is no longer valid.

My activity was 98 and after 2 posts and 2 hours later now the activity is 112?? how is it possible? ??

You got your 14 points for this period and had a higher number of posts.
2746  Other / Meta / Re: why isn't my activity going up. on: February 17, 2016, 06:13:13 AM
Hey guys i am posting and replying to things but for some reason i amn't getting activity. why is that?  Sad Sad Sad

You get a maximum of 14 activity per 14 days, if you post more your activity will be less than your posts.

2748  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPG encrypted bitcoin transfer on: February 16, 2016, 08:24:49 PM
Hi,

I think i recieved bitcoin encrypted in gpg. I have no knowledge of how to get the bitcoin in my online wallet.

So you have received an encrypted message for your pgp key and encrypted it. The message makes you think it contains bitcoin?

I managed to open user ID which appears to be 3 differents

3 different what? User ID?

, but i have no idea about what to do next? Can someone help me out with this issue?

What you write does not sound like bitcoin, but maybe you can be more clear about it? Why not contact the sender? Is the message signed?
¨

I was sure that it wasn`t going to make sense. I have got mail from someone saying he made a donation in bitcoin. I have had my public adress and thought i was gonna receieve it directly in my online wallet. Which is not the case. His mail was had some kind of code with GPG. So i downloaded GPG program and tried to open it. I thogught i could get some kind of private key to add on my wallet. But i couldn`t manage it. I hope this information will be helpfull to understand. Do you think you can help?

If you dont have a PGP key pair, its impossible to send you an encrypted message. Maybe it was just signed?

A signed PGP message looks like this:

Code:
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256

this is shorena from bitcointalk.org
with a sample PGP signed message for Nomad88.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
Version: GnuPG v2

Ok so a random 12 word password should be strong enough then ?

See the post by cr1776, I dont know. It depends on your way to select random words and the word basis or number of words. It sounds good though.

and i prob have no need really to create a .conf file to be honest, but interesting to know.  thanks alot for the help

Usually not, no.

Great help, thank you, so thats why it is always best to use a new address for sending and receiving Bitcoin  Grin

But its wrong!. Bitcoin core keeps (by default) 100 unused private keys and addresses pre generated for you. This would only work if you would use all 100 (change)addresses.

You can change this by adding keypool=103 to your bitcoin.conf file.

Ok so then it is dangerous to leave old wallet backups on computers or USB pendrives that others have access to.

Only if you use bad passwords. Cores wallet files are reasonably well defended against brute force attacks.

Shorena could you explain abit more about keypool 103 into bitcoin.conf?  where is that file? i have checked %appdata% and cant see it

The file is not created by default, if you cant find one in %APPDATA%/Bitcoin you can just create a text file and rename it (make sure its no longer a .txt file).

With the keypool option you can change the default behavior to any other number of pregenerated private keys you prefer. Keep in mind that reducing the number also means you have to create a backup more often.

If you set a higher number core create the keys next time the wallet is unlocked.

2755  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Funktionsweise / Sicherheit Trezor on: February 16, 2016, 01:43:45 PM
Hey Leute,

Nein.

It is for now, but its 512 RAM is very small and its CPU is very slow, so validating the blockchain alone takes several weeks.

It's feasible, and there are people running nodes this way... But obviously not on the 512MB RAM Pi B Smiley You've got to have a Pi B 2, which has 1GB RAM.

For now you can even run the node solely on the Pi, using a 128GB card. You can even run it portably, on an external battery, using wifi or a 4G connection (I haven't tried this, but it's not an impossibility)

Hence the "for now" I dont think it will be feasible in the future, but I might be wrong. 0.12 comes with a way to restrict memory usage, but I guess the CPU will be too weak once SegWit is introduced or at the very least once bigger blocks come. I also havent read anything good about using SD cards to store the blockchain, apparently they are worn out quickly.

You did not scam anyone, but you tried. The rating was left only now, because it was found out now.

Send me a PM after the 2016.03.16 and I will see if the warning was needed or should be changed to neutral.

btw: its not abuse, the trust system allows negative ratings for any reason and its often used as a warning about users that behaved shady in the past.

I didn't saw Luckybit rules.when the campaign manager said me i told him to remove me.From then i am not joining any twitter campaign.Whatever Users 'Karl Perkin' and 'jorjito25' did the same but they didn't get any feedback.
