2741  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum to US Dollars on: January 07, 2021, 12:40:32 AM
If you've already kyc'd with coinbase you can just use that to sell your funds.

Just click deposit and send to that address from electrum and then you should see a sell option. You can also use Pro.coinbase.com to save on fees and add orders that can trigger at certain prices in the future.

When sending to an address's make sure you check the first 5, last 5 and a series of characters in the middle to ensure you're sending to the right address. You can also use the "advanced button in electrum to check this in a read-only view.
2742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Calculating how many Altcoins can be bought for $20 on: January 07, 2021, 12:10:22 AM
If you're asking what $1000/$20 I'd then I'd seriously suggest taking out a book on trading or something. If you don't have a good strategy or know how to make one youll be quite likely to make a loss..

Anyway $1000 in total, putting $20 on each coin gives 50 coins if that's what you were asking.
$100 on each coin would be selling them at 5x of their current value.

2743  Economy / Exchanges / Re: DEX as mixer? on: January 06, 2021, 11:56:50 PM
Some are traceable and some aren't. A lot are more traceable than a mixer. Waves documents everything on its blockchain, I was going to show a transaction but didn't want to violate privacy by using one just in case people didn't know that was a thing.

Uniswap also leaves a strong trace behind. Other exchanges like bisq do hide a trace but won't exchanges block other stuff too? I haven't seen things like yobit be blocked from sending to major exchanges and they can also be used for privacy reasons.
2744  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a way I can use a single seed for all my cryptocurrencies? on: January 06, 2021, 11:43:45 PM
It'll probably depend on what coins you're planning on using as there will likely be many ways to do this.

Have you thought of using a trezor? Their schematics are online so you could probably get stuff printed yourself -although there's still the usb component.

Electrum ltc and electrum btc along with mew/metamask are compatible with the 24 word seeds though of the same type afaik (youll have to tick a box in electrum to make it use the appropriate bip for reading the seed). Waves also has a 24 word seed as well as decred which I *imagine* will be compatible with each other.

SECONDARY THOUGHT: you could try using a dex like bisq if you trust the developers enough to handle the transactions and attempt to use the same seed with mew in order to get erc20 tokens if necessary. You and your seed would be the full custodian you'd just be sending stuff signed by your machine across the network using their software and trusting them to not intercept it, bisq is cheaper than the waves equivelant but doesn't look as streamlined yet (but that could just be me).
2745  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Metamask Erc20 token transaction pending for days on: January 06, 2021, 10:23:01 PM
According to etherscan.io:
Quote
There is a Pending txn with a lower account nonce. This txn can only be executed after confirmation of the earlier

Youll have to pump the fee on that or wait for it to confirm before this one will.

There's a chain of 6 that are awaiting a confirmation here: https://etherscan.io/address/0x2898d7518a6178a0d27cbee74990cd37740af203
2746  Economy / Speculation / Re: When and How much low on next Bear Market? on: January 05, 2021, 10:12:45 PM
If the predictions of 250+k are met then I imagine us to drop to no lower than the last ath but realistically around $25-35k.

If it doesn't and we only go up to $50-100 then I would expect anywhere from $6-12k atm. I don't think it's likely we'll see $2-4k/btc unless something catastrophic happens.
2747  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk's Alexa Rating during this bitcoin bull run and some funny stats.. on: January 05, 2021, 09:37:11 PM
Anyone know why in the industries section it doesn't mention "bitcoin"? It seems to list: cryptocurrencies bcash and "comments".
2748  Economy / Speculation / Re: WTF? Do you think a major Central Bank will close soon? on: January 05, 2021, 08:49:35 PM
If there still exists a bank that only offers their own fiat and doesn't deal in anything else then I can imagine them closing...

There might be a decision made in the different currency areas of Europe about whether to do strange things with debt (eg some Eastern European countries light have their debts adsorbed into a slightly more inflated euro)...

It's not a good idea for stability for a central Bank to close without offering anything else though and theres no feasible alternative so one will likely open in its place or it'll run with another country'scurrency.
2749  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum, XRP and Monero for Electrum wallets - Got a Question on: January 05, 2021, 02:02:02 PM
I thought there already was one for xmr/monero and it looks like you can adapt normal electrum for that.

I don't think xrp use a blockchain but the xrp client already acts a bit like electrum so you could probably find a way to convert it.

And I don't know how eth works or if there's a software version of it anymore that isn't online? Are wallet apps still a thing with ethereum?
2750  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to troubleshoot failed lightning network electrum on: January 05, 2021, 04:45:00 AM
You might have to close your channel and open up another one if you don't control the other end or know who does.

I'd suggest opening a few channels at once in order to avoid issues like this and to also support decentralisation a bit more.

For a large amount of your capacity (size of transaction you're likely to send or receive) I'd recommend opening a channel with acinq: https://acinq.co/node

If you're normally a ghost/guest on this forum and recognise users you might want to take a look at my thread on users here that are running lightning network nodes too: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5266907.msg54940969#msg54940969
2751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What exchange to use a US Citizen Abroad? on: January 05, 2021, 04:09:55 AM
Have you looked at kucoin? I wouldn't trust them personally but I know of a lot of people who do so they might be an option - they seem to have more listing than binance do. There's also hitbtc and yobit which might be a bit scammy - I wouldn't trust them too much.

There are also exchanges that are decentralised like bisq and the waves exchange which could have the coins your after (though much less than binance).
2752  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on Tails - 2FA Google Auth failing on: January 05, 2021, 01:11:50 AM

If all that fails, then try using a different device for your 2FA authenticator app, or make a wallet without 2FA at all and save on the extra fees that 2FA charges.

You could always try 2fa'ing with electrum on your phone if you don't mind the app being visible in the home screen when using the phone normally - that way you'll again save fees and have similar security.

Generate seeds, copy across public keys somehow (qr code) and get a 2 of 2 multisig with the phone.

Then when you want to send a transaction you create it on the tails and sign it and then scan it with your phone (the camera icon on electrum).
2753  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin over 30k on: January 05, 2021, 01:07:41 AM
I was a pessimist that bitcoin will go over 20k ,now it's over 30k

From my perspective btc is worthless same as cash ...it has no value for me

I value the technology, lesser so the currency. I've been watching the price and see people making predictions of it going a lot higher but I doubt I trust the current pricing or where the rise is coming from...

Question is how will be responsible for the suicides & murders...when they start happening ?

Poor people gamble their savings now thinking they will get rich quick ...

The poor and the rich alike are going to do this and I feel this is entirely the fault of governments.
People in the US in public schools afaik have NO financial education afaik, in Europe you get some education on how to file taxes, set up a business, invest (not to pull out when stuff falls - stock market) but they still don't teach much on it.

If your not rich be careful and read a lot about crypto ,see the good side and bad side of it before you invest in it .

How is going to pay when pension funds will start investing and they will lose people's money ? As some fund managers are already playing Russian roulette...

Stupid and corrupt govs  ...that's how i blame.

Pension funds look really bad just generally.

In the UK when you pay into your pension to a company, the government adds 25% on to it from what I can tell for the moment - that's a lot of money going into mismanagement pensions themselves shupd be a way for people to save for their retirement but instead they look to be a way to employ a whole other company from your own and pay someone of your breed an extortionate amount do not do very much...
2754  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Stupid question: MA 200 and 50 Day on: January 04, 2021, 09:39:52 PM
For TA, the larger the timezone the more accurate the analysis from it. Much like comparing a second chart to an hourly or daily chart you can get information from the lower timezones but it'll probably be less acurrate. (200 hours is less than a week!).

2755  Economy / Economics / Re: The Rise of Layer 2s Could Spell End for Altcoins (opinion) on: January 04, 2021, 07:57:52 PM
The idea that the better product wins in the end is probably right most of the time, however it is not always true, even if an altcoin had smarter developers and proceeded to include features that bitcoin did not had, what it is stopping the bitcoin developers to add the same functionality in the future denying in the process any reason for people to hold that coin in the first place?

This is why I do not hate altcoins as some other users do, altcoins are a sandbox where many features can be tested without affecting bitcoin and see if anything is worth to add to it, so if a coin really wants to beat bitcoin and become the leader of the market or at least survive as an independent coin then they need to have features that the developers of bitcoin cannot replicate.

There's more of a chance the best team of developers will be able to win out with crypto. Bitcoin being the top now doesn't mean it has to always be the case and it leaves the spot for #2 and #3 open still even if bitcoin doest have to top spot just for being "Digital gold" or whatever institutions want to call it..

There could be an issue of things not being open source that'll come up soon if teams try to patent their individual work (before it's pushed to the public domain as source code).

I think with the quantum computing being developed now we would have to see " which one of them survives"
We need forks , we need subtle development over the years!! It is very essential now. I am really excited to see what development will happen in BTC and ETH, how secure the network will be and how much of a threat quantum computers really are.

I think qubits are still a "potential problem" most assumptions put it at us finding a few-qubit processor that way and working up from there. This may or may not happen but it'd be pretty irresponsible for anyone to just release a 256 qubit machine or even try to build one without requiring people to uplift their security standards to a higher bitrate.
2756  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on Tails - 2FA Google Auth failing on: January 04, 2021, 06:58:30 PM
Is your phone synced with the time servers? (settings>time corrections).

Have you kept your mnemonic? If you have you'll definitely be able to salvage the funds if necessary. Have you checked you're definitely using the right code too (you haven't made 2 wallets)?
2757  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: January 04, 2021, 04:32:56 PM
But I don't know if I can find those transactions. I will take a look into it when your data is ready
I wasn't planning on doing anything with "inputs", unless there is a specific request. I'm basically just mirroring Blockchair.
I can do data extractions, but I'll need to know what you need. And it will take a while because there's a lot of data.
I think most datasets already available should have all the info necessary AFAIK. You can either check the script type or the public keys used for signing it from what I can remember.

Full human readable data would be HUGE.
2758  Economy / Economics / Re: The Rise of Layer 2s Could Spell End for Altcoins (opinion) on: January 04, 2021, 02:33:33 PM
To me, my favourite idea is the community that has the most good and active developers is the one that's going to see the most adoption. It could be bitcoin, eth or a few other coins. It might take a while for others to notice though which are more secure and more readily developed/forked.
2759  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transaction on opening lightning network channel on: January 04, 2021, 06:07:09 AM
Assuming you've funded this from your own wallet, whenever you send btc you have to send the whole amount of the money you received to an address.
If you received 0.03btc and 0.01 for example to your wallet and funded with less than 0.01 it's likely the 0.01 would be spent on it.

Whatever is left from funding the initial address is then sent to a type of address known as "change" where it can be spent from in the future.
2760  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: January 04, 2021, 01:44:32 AM
I have a question.

Looking at a transaction in the blockchain. How can I know if that transaction created or closed a Lightning Network channel?

I would like to try to find those transactions and make some stats with them.

Realistically you're probably only going to be able to work out its a lightning channel on the blockchain once it's been closed. It may be possible to send htlcs incomplete down channels that are active to see the available balance they might have for transferring - but then you'd lock their funds in a htlc potentially and it'll depend on the node as to how long that is.

For a channel that had been closed you're looking for a multisig 2 of 2 script to be highlighted in whatever you're using for the analysis (eg the bitcoin core daemon). And for the multisig address to only have 2 transactions - channel opening and channel closure.
