In the past, yes some of the bad boy attributes you mentioned are known with gamblers and that is why it was labelled as bad habit to gambler. Many families don't like their children to associate with other children who gamble but these days we know some people only gamble and not involved in other illicit attributes.

The answer is not far from what you know but based on different jurisdiction or country.
