2761  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting: how much knowledge is too much on: October 16, 2020, 09:47:11 AM
Sports betting is provably fair by itself - you can always verify the result by reading the news(if you missed the live stream of the event).

This should apply to sports-bettings that cannot change/control the outcome of matches/games bettors are betting on.
I think the provable fair we normally refer to is the feature found on betting sites to make the bets fair/fraud-proof.
2762  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports Betting vs Real "Sports Feelings" on: October 16, 2020, 09:26:56 AM
There's double excitement betting and cheering for your favorite team especially if they are battling for a championship, that's probably the best time to bet for your team when they are in championship matches, I always do that it's a rewarding experience even if you lose you are still excited because who wants to see their team in a championship, of course, you want your team to bring home the championship.

This would make sense if your team is benefitting from the bets. Donating the money to the team instead of betting would be a better way to show your support. I think betting should simply be seen as predicting/guessing the right answer or likely outcome in competition/game with money or valuable.  And I think it should be done correctly.
2763  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Did anyone bet on the sharks yet ? on: October 16, 2020, 09:05:00 AM
Having money involved doesn't make it gambling. If I stake other valuable things aside money (like a banana, apple, meat, etc) to prove my skills/reputation or how good and trusted I'm in my predictions and I lose it for not being correct, is that still gambling?
Yes, I think that is still gambling because you risk something, and no matter if you win or lose, you still gamble.
And no matter what involving in that risk, that is gambling.

Would you then call forex, stock,  precious metals trading, etc gambling? The traders clearly risk money to bet on price of currencies and commodities.
If those are gambling, then lot of other things I didn't mention here could easily be classified as gambling.
I hope you are not basing you definition/meaning on online dictionary definitions. They certainly can be proven wrong

2764  Other / Off-topic / Re: Great Resource for New Traders on: October 15, 2020, 04:20:49 PM
Sounds interesting.
I have couple of trading stimulators or demo sites bookmarked, but I don't know if there is any that does this:

It starts slowly with some basic information and gradually increases the information quality over time.
With every new segment that is introduced, you need to pass a test of knowledge to move forward.
I think adding token-like incentive could even encourage people to work harder to learn, understand, pass a test and get rewarded. I have always fancied rewarding people to spend time to learn and understand something well.
2765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do mixing companies want stolen bitcoins? on: October 15, 2020, 03:05:37 PM
Most of them send bitcoins they receive back to their next clients sooner or later..
Mixing is basically breaking the link between 2 wallets, it does not mean that the funds you receive as an output from the mixer cannot be coupled to any illegal activity... And that shouldn't be a problem either: can you prove that any fiat money in your wallet was never stolen or used to buy illegal narcotics?

Interesting.
Digital fiat currencies aren't that transparent. I don't know of anyway to prove that apart from trusting those who control them "privately" to prove it. The case is different with Bitcoin... it's public and transparent, and lots of activities/transactions on its network can be seen and possibly tracked by anyone.

In regard to mixing stolen money by mixing services, I wonder if any of them have been caught deliberately mixing stolen bitcoins. That will be very immoral.
2766  Other / Off-topic / Re: Porn ad designed to protect children on: October 15, 2020, 02:27:40 PM
government also can't do much about it because internet is a place where nothing can be controlled.
I guess part of the reason some allow things this way is to prevent tyrants from censoring good contents. But I think there is nothing wrong in preventing/censoring bad contents from spreading. It would be quite risky to share a society with many people who have unrestricted access to bad/evil contents. I think bad content should remain with their creators/owners and not spread to many people

Websites make money only through ads so they are not going to stop no matter what is the reason for them to stop
I don't really have problems with ads, as long as they are not bad ads people and I don't want to see.
2767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Will UNISWAP become a centralized exchange? on: October 15, 2020, 01:50:51 PM
I don't know much about what is going on there, but from the little I know, it seems they are trying to create a suitable governance system that wouldn't affect their agenda and probably the quality of decisions they make. Unfortunately, they are trying to do this by creating an elitist type of setting instead of true consensus/governance that doesn't exclude any stakeholders from full participation in network consensus and governance. Deliberately making governance for all stake holder hard to participate in doesn't sound decentralized to me.
2768  Other / Off-topic / Re: Porn ad designed to protect children on: October 15, 2020, 10:38:01 AM
Even if we teach them about what we have to see on internet still popup ads appear on any site which mostly contains porn related service so what a parent can actually do?

They have to restrict the usage of their kids device to particular sites and apps and also you need to listen what they are using their devices for.Lot of apps are available for parents to monitory and authorize their kids smartphones.

Ofcourse.
The inappropriate ads and contents usually manage to sneak through no matter hard you prevent them.
I think inappropriate things could be reduced to a safe level if the internet is restructured in a way to allow users have a say in the kind of things/products/services they use or things they are fed with. Companies that provide services on the internet really need to be transparent, open-source, accountable, decentralized, consensus-driven, guided by rules etc. Lots of the evil pass through because people are kept in the dark.
2769  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: New Normal Game Setup - a success or a failure? on: October 15, 2020, 09:24:50 AM
Well, the stadiums(open ones esp) and fields seem to be some of the few places I have heard about where "customers" aren't allowed to come in even with the social distancing and other safety measures obeyed. I think safety rules should be followed and the safety measure of policy makers shouldn't be inconsistent and unnecessarily extreme. This is to avoid putting people who are following the extreme measures that are not necessary in serious danger. Qualify people should make the rules and we should be guided by them or stick to them.
The pandemic rules seem not be consistent unfortunately. They give this rule and do something else.
2770  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Did anyone bet on the sharks yet ? on: October 15, 2020, 08:56:56 AM
Could be a good idea, as long as the bettors are not gambling. The word gambling is probably what triggered the guilt feeling here:

How would you want responsible & skilled people to participate and still call them gamblers?

This is ok if it's about correctly predicting the sharks migration in sustainable/safe manner and to help the animals.
Not a gamble at all but since there is money involved you can still tagged this one as gambling, not unless all the money collected will all be used and donated to protect the natural resources and the natural habitat of a wild animal. Predicting the migration could be more difficult, like you have to know where the sharks are going down deeper.

2771  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports Betting vs Real "Sports Feelings" on: October 15, 2020, 08:46:27 AM
I do love some sports and always bet on my favorite team despite that they are not that strong well I just want to show my to support with them though sometimes I also bet on their opponent especially the top teams aside from them. Sports betting is super fun and exciting, you can also watch the game on live so you can feel the vibes of the match.
I think it's important for bettors to bet honestly or bet based on truth/fact and not emotionally. Betting against the team you love doesn't me you hate them. It should be for the integrity of the system, for the benefit of people and for the betting/prediction community. If you see reasons to bet against your team, I believe it's better to bet honestly against them, as long as it isn't for selfish reasons. It's more like saying "this team have really good stats, they did their job well, I think they will win".. I would bet this way unless I believe miracle could happen or GOD can turn things around in favour of the poorly prepared team
2772  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is bitcoin just for investors on: October 14, 2020, 05:25:08 PM
I guess your problem is the volatility? You want something "stable" for quick transactions and for holding Bitcoin short term, right?
Well, bitcoin is designed to increase/decrease in price, depending on demand and supply... If there is more demand for the coin than there is to sell , the price will  increase... If there is less demand for the coin but more supply(or more to sell), the price decreases. It increases more in price than it decreases though.   This is an important feature of Bitcoin that protects users (esp those using it as store of value) from inflation.   It could be made to fluctuate moderately though, for the sake of quick/short-term users and people like you.
Or you could just factor in the fluctuation in price and increase the amount of Bitcoin you wish to buy a little bit... This should compansate for the shortfall in your fund whenever there is decrease in price. If price goes up, you gain
2773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Former P&O Cruise Ship now named 'Satoshi' on: October 14, 2020, 03:14:46 PM
Interesting.
Looks too centralized and heavy though.
I'd prefer some sort of modular platforms with different sizes (from small, medium to large).

In my opinion, a good crypto based project should adhere more to the ideals of Bitcoin as risk/uncertainty increase for safety reasons.
2774  Other / Off-topic / Re: Deflationary Economy and its effects on DeFi on: October 14, 2020, 02:29:03 PM
Apart from being deflationary, what else can the token do? Can the project do very useful and unique things for users? Is it safe and decentralized?
These^ are some of the things that make tokens valuable to users and attract exchanges willing to list them for free
2775  Other / Off-topic / Re: Artificial Intelligence (AI); Pros and Cons. on: October 14, 2020, 02:03:55 PM
One of my major concerns with AI is autonomy. An autonomous AI that lives in an evil world, exposed to evil, learns from its environment, and makes complex decisions  could be hijacked, corrupted, turn evil etc .
If people understood what they are getting themselves into, they would never have an AI without really good/moral rulers ruling over it. Where do you get such rulers?
By the way, AI has to be well built without mistakes
2776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Found of Yearn Finance trying to be used by crypto community on: October 14, 2020, 10:43:57 AM
I think it's important to know whether the developers really warned users that the project is in test stage.  The warning would be clearly written on unhidden parts of the platform. And it's important to also know whether the users were warned not to invest big amounts or what they can't afford to lose.
By the way, projects like that should be well tested before they are released to public for serious usage.
2777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Risk attached with approve transaction on DAPP and DEX like uniswap on: October 14, 2020, 09:58:53 AM
Interesting. Sounds risky.

Which also means uniswap smart contract can call that token anytime from our wallet however it is not centralized and codes are public so we trust it.
Things could even be changed in new software without users realizing.

I guess the unlimited is mainly  for regular traders on exchanges with the feature. I would probably choose "approve" if I don't trade regularly... or use "unlimited/limited" as regular trader, but with feature to have a limit or minimum amount that can be withdrawn from my wallet at a particular time, and get alerted for anything higher than the minimum or when the limit is crossed. I could then approve it manually. The minimum could be in fiat value due to differences in tokens/coins prices.
2778  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting: how much knowledge is too much on: October 14, 2020, 09:13:02 AM
Sports betting is a popular concept and many people are involved in it around us. Skill can work for you and choosing the best team is the main factor here. Because anything can happen within a very short time. So it is better to choose the best one for your safety. I think it's easy to choose if you have enough knowledge about sports.

But unfortunately, the best team can not always win the games because sometimes, the weak team can win easily. The field situations can change suddenly without we know, and that can make the opponent panic. We can see that the best team was defeated by the weak team many times, and that is happening not just in one or two times. If we have enough knowledge about sports, especially for the sports that we like, we will have a chance to select the team that can win.

The fact is that bookmakers sometimes deliberately put the odds they need on the opposite team, and if you are not good at this sport, you can easily be cheated by bookmakers... Cheesy
So it's always DYOR! Wink

There's no cheating in sports betting especially coming from sports book as they provide the odds for both sides, it's only up to us to decide which side we will bet, sometimes we just make a wrong decision as we presume a certain odds will provide us an easy win.

Interesting.
I think one of the reasons why cheating will likely be minimal or non-existent in sports betting is because the outcome of games is not dependent on or determined by things controlled or owned by betting sites. If a betting site owns and controls the football players(for example), things could be easily manipluted.
2779  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Question: Is there any websites where I can gamble crypto under 18? on: October 14, 2020, 08:49:35 AM
How old is the under 18 exactly?
If by "gambling" you mean "taking big risk on bets" then I can assure you that you are not supposed to gamble even as an adult. You can however bet little, and only what you can afford to lose. But betting as under 18, it really depends on the country you are from. Does your country allow kids to bet without supervision from guardians/parents? *Gambling* is out of the equation here because kids are not supposed to gamble at all.

if you’re asking me how old I am, I’m 15.

- ptrlol

Still not the right age to bet without supervision. If you are interested in prediction/betting market, I would advice that you wait until you become adult and able to control your self and make right decisions.
I do not recommend ever gambling in betting sites/centers, even as an adult. Your bets should be moderate and responsible

Good thing that you have decided not to gamble.

✳ The "merit" was for the bolded below. Good you changed your mind!

Is there any websites like bc.game but allow people under the age of 18?

I just want to know, thanks. lol

- ptrlol

Edit1: Thanks for everyone replying, I have decided to not online gamble as now I know it is illegal, so to people who was wondering my age, 15.
