2781  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How to resolve all and any overheating issues :P on: June 03, 2013, 09:28:10 AM
Even a laptop running flat out, while charging the battery will likely use about 65W - there's still something going on...

2782  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI mining - updated Dec 3 with 7970 bugfix, also supports Stratum! on: June 03, 2013, 09:09:56 AM
Use stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333
2783  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How to resolve all and any overheating issues :P on: June 03, 2013, 08:57:24 AM
Wow!  414W for one card?   Huh  Seems terribly high.  I'm running a 7950, 7850, 6970 and a 4.5GHz AMD FX and I'm only using 790W.

I'd be expecting about 300W for that rig, unless I'm missing something?
2784  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How hot do your GPU's run? on: June 03, 2013, 08:54:54 AM
mining ltc is not summer frendly, 79-83C

This.  I moved back to BTC for the summer - 21C outside, all windows open in house, computer room was sitting at 34C overnight when mining LTC!  Shocked  Stays below 28C doing BTC, and saves 200W at the wall.

I thought you needed Windows 8 to run more than 5 cards...
2786  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How hot do your GPU's run? on: June 03, 2013, 08:24:13 AM
Sapphire HD6970 @ 75C
Asus HD7850 @ 74C
Gigashyte HD7950 @ 69C

All cards in a well ventilated Define XL R2.

Just pulled the HD5870 which ran at 92C with fan at 100%.  Saved 150W at the wall too.  Fan is OK and heat sink is clean.  TIM replaced recently.  I think it's just f**ked.  Embarrassed
2787  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Cgminer (7950GBWF) declared SICK at the same time every day? on: June 02, 2013, 02:18:19 PM
My 7950 does the same, but it's only once a week.  It's running at default clocks.  It's also a Gigashyte (it was cheap).
2788  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Which version of Catalyst do not require dummy plugs ? (hd 7950s) on: May 31, 2013, 12:24:40 PM
I've never needed dummy plugs?  12.4, 12.8, 12.10, 13.2.....Windows 7, Windows 8....6 different ATI cards from a HD5870 to a HD7950....

I don't understand why people think they need them?
2789  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: BFL wants me to pay shipping twice on: May 31, 2013, 10:38:01 AM
$312?  Are they renting a car and driving it to your house, plugging it in and setting it up for you as well?
2790  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Are new Pools Needed on: May 31, 2013, 10:12:59 AM
Hmm...joining a pool run by someone who doesn't even know what protocol he's going to use, and can't spell it either, doesn't really inspire any confidence.

Losing most of my reward for a short disconnect seems to be very unfair in my opinion.

I thought this is the way slush's worked?  If you have a dodgy internet connection, maybe a plain PPS pool would be better for you?
2792  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 x2 & 7950 x2 Same Rig? on: May 31, 2013, 10:07:10 AM
Rock on. I knew I could mix crossfire in the same series. I just wasn't sure about two separate crossfires in the same machine.

If you're Crossfiring for mining only, you're doing it wrong.
2793  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What do I do with these? on: May 31, 2013, 10:04:38 AM
I have an old PCI SCSI card in the cupboard.  Would it mine Litecoins too?  Roll Eyes

I ran for a day on itzod, and it worked out a similarly feeble reward to slush's.  Bitcoin mining sucks for GPUs now.  Cry

Up to 78% in half an hour.  Tongue  Happy thoughts, happy thoughts.  Cheesy
2796  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 1Kw PSU apparently not enough juice for 2x7970's Ghz Editions... on: May 30, 2013, 01:24:41 PM

I figured it was total of the card itself but ofc I could be wrong.. None the less, it's hard to imagine I'd reach even close to 1Kw with the current mining rig.

AMD AM3 FX-8350 Black Edition (Eight -Core 4.0 GHz)
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
16GB G.Skill 1600Mhz
2*7970's
1*SATA 160GB
1*Pioneer DVD Burner
1*Wireless Netgear WG311 Card
Sharkoon T9 Value Case with 3*120mm LED Fans that came with it.
Powercooler CoolerPower 1050w Extreme Power (Dodgy) PSU

I run similar - FX8320@4.4GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 6x120mm fans (Scythe Gentle Typhoon), HD7950, HD6970, HD5870, HD7770 all off a 1000W Zalman PSU that I got used off eBay for basically nothing.  The Zalman's fan barely spins, and it runs cool.  It's drawing 800W from the mains doing BTC, about 900W doing LTC.

I think your PSU was just a bit crap to blow up like that.
2797  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Best GPU cards for mining on sale - really cheap on: May 30, 2013, 01:19:30 PM
Over priced, under performing junk.  Roll Eyes

Anyone buying a card that does 200MH/s for money must be sniffing glue.  With Bitcoin difficulty it'd take forever for the card to make it's ROI, especially considering the amount of power these things use.

The 4870X2 uses nearly 300W of power to do 200MHs.   A cheap 7770 for the same price will do the same MHs and only use 80W.  And it'll have a warranty.  And it won't sound like a snow-blower.

Any from the UK interested in a USB miner?

Small UK group buy Block Erupter USB @ 1.99 BTC + taxes/duty & postage
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=219555.msg2312370#msg2312370

Price is too high. Half year need to return the buy price:P

This.  I could pay half that, get a device that mines at twice the speed, and allows me to play games as well.  Oh, and heats my house in the winter.

Block Erupter is far too slow and far too expensive.
2799  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 30, 2013, 10:11:50 AM
I just came back to mining bitcoins from litecoins.  I should have been getting 0.04BTC a day.  24 hours later I've got 0.01 unconfirmed.   Crap.

I'm really regretting moving back to BTC with this luck.   Cry

2800  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Best Practices: Stratum Mining Proxies ? on: May 29, 2013, 07:44:06 PM
Another query - I use the mining_proxy from slush's, but I'd be happier if there was a mining proxy that did failover.  I used pool failover on cgminer, but when cgminer is running through a mining proxy, it doesn't fail over when one of the pools craps out.  I use the proxy to keep rejected shares down due to a lumpy internet connection.

So, mining proxy with pool failover?  Or am I missing something.
