2781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Early Is It Now, For Those Who Missed Bitcoin In Its Early Days? on: November 13, 2022, 09:41:36 AM
Anyone can start saving in Bitcoin today.

That makes no one late to anything.

If a person is able to acquire bitcoin today and still have control of it in 13 years into the future, they will probably hold more value than what they hold today.

It's irrelevant to think about what you didn't do in the past, you should focus on what you can do today.
2782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why we should Buy some Bitcoins on: November 13, 2022, 09:28:05 AM
Bitcoin is currently trading at a good price and now is a good opportunity to enter the world of Bitcoin. If you've not bought bitcoins yet, this might be your best opportunity this year.
Bitcoin is currently trading at $ 34,493 and the bear market is coming to an end. Also, another good thing that will definitely affect the price of bitcoin is halving.
Big investors! One of the main reasons why the price of Bitcoin does not fall much is the presence of large investors. These investors do not allow the Bitcoin price sink lower.
This was written in May 2022. In November 2022 the price of bitcoin is $16,520.4, less than half of what was being traded at that time.

This is a reminder that it's impossible to know the short term fluctuations of bitcoin price.

The fundamentals of Bitcoin haven't changed. That's what's important.
2783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: November 13, 2022, 09:23:53 AM
I sincerely can't wait for the world cup in Qatar to commence.  The beauty of the stadiums I would relish for all eternity should I have an opportunity to go watch the matches live.
Seeing I have to watch the aired view, I look forward to my favorite African teams going farther, also for the Ballon d' Or winners and runners up, mostly Mane with hopes he recovers soonest and feature for Senegal. Also, other international starts who for them this is their final world cup appearance due to age factor and retirement issues.
This will be an interesting world cup, specially because for so many great players this will end up being their last one.

I'm pretty sure most of the countries will bring their A team for this world cup and we'll be watching world-class matches.

This will be the last time we see this type of world cup tournament. The next ones will have more countries in it, which will probably feel a bit different.
2784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How important are exchanges? on: November 13, 2022, 09:10:59 AM
Bitcoins can exist without exchanges, but would you support the argument that the existence of exchanges are among the factors facilitating the popularity and accessibility that people have to bitcoins?

As long as bitcoins are not generally obtained by providing goods and services, we would need exchanges to switch fiat received for goods and services for a better money, Bitcoin.

But even at places in which that happens, like El Salvador, there would still be people that prefer other types of money, like USD in that case. So exchanges will probably always will be needed.
2785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What problem does Bitcoin solve? on: November 13, 2022, 09:04:22 AM
~snip~
If a wallet allows the use of fiat or bitcoin, how does that resolve the issue that bitcoin is, at least currently, far more volatile that fiat currently?  At least where I am in the U.S.

And how does a wallet provide the use of fiat currency?  What is the path/method by which I take some fiat currency somewhere and get control over it via my off-line wallet?

What I meant is that in some wallets you can set the amount of the transfer in fiat, say $5, and the wallet will calculate immediately the amount of Bitcoin, based on the current exchange rate. Sometimes you'll pay a bit more btc other times a bit less btc for the same $5. This would be a bit similar as to using foreign currency.

Some wallets do offer some kind of exchange between fiat and bitcoin, such as Strike, or Chivo, etc. At the end of the day those are exchanges.
2786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What problem does Bitcoin solve? on: November 11, 2022, 05:52:00 AM
I have a question about when the price of bitcoin will stabilize. Currently if it is used for daily payments, calculating its price varies from day to day, which is troublesome. I'm a rookie and have never been able to figure this out.

Most wallets will allow you to use either fiat or bitcoin for making payments so it shouldn't be an issue.
2787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin have launched in the 1990s — Or was it waiting for Satoshi? on: November 10, 2022, 05:01:32 AM
From the whitepaper:

A. Back, "Hashcash - a denial of service counter-measure,"
http://www.hashcash.org/papers/hashcash.pdf, 2002.

So at a minimum, 2002.

The financial crisis of 2007-2008 happened roughly at the same time that Satoshi claimed started to write the Bitcoin source code, so I guess the timing was just right.

The ideas of Bitcoin are not really that new, the key difference in Bitcoin is that it's decentralized, that's the main contribution, and what makes it different to anything prior to it.
2788  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2022 Group Stage Highlights on: November 10, 2022, 04:52:45 AM
In that scenario you presented(one team with 9 points), the only way to have 2 teams with 4 points each is that the last team loses every single match and the 2 teams tie between each other.

That's possible, but I think it won't happen like that.

Why not?

Let's take a scenario like this:

There are a total of 6 matches. Let's assume an outcome like this:

Ecuador wins all of their 3 matches, end up with 9 points.
Netherlands loses against Ecuador, draws against Senegal and wins against Qatar -  4 points
Senegal losses against Ecuador, draws against Netherlands and wins against Qatar - 4points
Qatar ends up with 0 points from 3 matches.

It is a hypothetical scenario, but still possible. If that happens, then the second ranked team will be decided on the basis of goal difference.

Yeah, you described exactly the scenario that I said could happen.

I just think something else will happen instead. Basically because I think there won't be a single team that will win the three matches, and another that will lose everything. I think it will be closer between the two at the top, and closer between the two at the bottom.

Ronaldo has already said that this will be his last world cup and Messi is likely the same given his current age.
Moreover, Ronaldo is now 37 years old, of course there is no chance for him in the next world cup because for the next world cup it means that he is 41 years old and I think even though he is often said to be a robot, it is still difficult for him to take part in the next world cup.

Messi has already publicly stated that this is going to be his last world cup.

This is really going to be an incredible tournament, such a historic moment where many greats will leave.
2790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wallet in C/C++ for Windows on: November 10, 2022, 03:59:34 AM
You might want to check out libbitcoin, available here: https://libbitcoin.info

It's a C++ toolkit that implements many different aspects of Bitcoin in a modular way.

It's easier to use to develop your own stuff than using Bitcoin Core, which you might also want to look at as it's also in C++: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin
2791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coins on an exchange, any exchange, are never safe on: November 10, 2022, 03:55:36 AM
Every day it seems a new story emerges about an exchange going bankrupt. Has been a recurring pattern since the Mt. Gox collapse. Why, with so many examples of failures, do people continue to keep their money on these? You don't own crypto if you have "coins" on an exchange, you have an IOU from a business that may or may not even be solvent.

It's interesting to see https://rekt.news as they show almost daily hacks of different projects, platforms, exchanges, etc.

And meanwhile, bitcoin continues generating block after block...

Keeping your coins in an exchange defeats the purpose of using Bitcoin. You don't want to have intermediaries, that's the whole point.
2792  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Two Gambling Stories on: November 10, 2022, 01:18:00 AM
The guy stealing his girlfriend's money in the story means that the money was collected without the girl's knowledge. If the girl was aware of it, she won't have allowed his boyfriend to gamble with her money. Whatever the guy feels like, is what he will give to the girl. Not 10k or a 40million dollars. Opening up a business for the girl is enough.

About the apprentice and the boss, I won't just listen to him or succumbed to his demands. He should take whatever I give to him. This kind of rubbish will only happen when they see you don't have anyone to speak for you. How can people be this greedy

People really can change when they see money.

And the amount is relative to each person, so someone might do crazy things for $5, others for $1,000, and others for $1M+.

For most people it's just the amount that matters, not if it's the right thing to do.
2793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2022 Group Stage Highlights on: November 09, 2022, 07:01:25 AM

Hmmm.. that is a bit dubious.

There are 4 teams in Group A, and each team will play the other once. There are a total of 6 matches in the group. A win gives 3 points, and a draw will give one point each to the teams. Maximum points available are 18, and for each team, the maximum is 9. But there is no guarantee that all the matches will end up as wins or loses. There can be draws as well. If the no.1 team wins all their matches, it will give them 9 points. But for the second place, it is quite possible to have two teams with 4 points each.

In that scenario you presented(one team with 9 points), the only way to have 2 teams with 4 points each is that the last team loses every single match and the 2 teams tie between each other.

That's possible, but I think it won't happen like that.

It is true that bitcoin has an advantage over fiat in this case but just like fiat to transfer money, both require a bank account and so does bitcoin.
If your loved one doesn't have a bitcoin wallet and doesn't know how to use bitcoin, how will you transfer money to them?

Nowadays, I've never seen a bank that doesn't offer cross-border money transfers, most banking systems are interconnected, which not only creates convenience for users, but also benefits them. As well as you mentioned when you use those services you have to pay extra for them which is something that has been perfectly fixed by bitcoin. With bitcoin, we will save time and only cost a single fee.

Well you can always teach them how to do it, or someone local to them can teach them or they can use another family member or friend's wallet, etc. It's simpler to create a bitcoin wallet that a bank account and there are way less requirements(only an internet connected device for sending and skills to use it).

Newer banks that are online only and provide higher savings rates sometimes don't offer international transfers services for example. A typical brick and mortar bank usually does offer those services for a fee, only on week days though...

3rd place will not do any good for either of these two (Qatar and Senegal) teams. Because only the top two will qualify for the next round. What they should target is a draw against either Netherlands or Ecuador. Take Senegal for example. If they could get 1 point from the matches against Ecuador or Netherlands and win the match against Qatar, then it will give them 4 points from 3 matches. And with some luck, that may enable them to finish within the top-2. But even getting a draw is going to be a herculanean task.

There is a total of 9 points to be had at that stage, and things can get tricky.

Say for example that one team wins three matches, and another one wins two (Probably Netherlands and Ecuador, in any order as I think they are the stronger teams), then it's done for the other 2 teams as the top teams will have 9 and 6 points.

Qatar or Senegal might have a chance if The Netherlands and Ecuador end up tied, but still it will be very hard to go to the next stage with 4 points only in that group. Winning at least twice will be crucial.

@nullama I feel bad for Pogba because while he failed at Manchester United, but he performed exceptionally well while playing for France hence he’ll be sorely missed. Furthermore Messi should hopefully recover in time because I’ll be gutted to see him miss his last World Cup, and lastly I hope that Varane recovers too as he’s an important player for France.

I think Messi's injury is minor and he'll be at his 100% for the world cup. He's just taking some rest as extra precaution.

But this world cup will be a massively competitive one, so he might even get injured in the first match there.

how often a database is wiped clean nowadays?
seems like something quite rare

would probably count against the company in court, not in favour.

but you are right, the winner should have at least some evidence that they really won.

Maybe it was a mistake?, those things do happen from time to time at places where things are not run up to standard.

But there's also the possibility of them just not wanting to pay up, which sounds horrible really.
2798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No Alternative to Bitcoin, Your Alternative is Bitcoin. on: November 09, 2022, 02:51:19 AM
Yes, this point is appreciated on the social level, as what you think about it what can be the alternative to bitcoin so in this point my and maximum crypto student's answer is going to be nothing. and bitcoin is my alternative yes it is as I can send money to my dear ones across the country I don't need banks I don't need background statements, I don't need to share my fund's details, don't need to follow any limits also I don't need to be the part of central bodies and most importantly my fees are going to highly reduced I am free to send my assets anywhere any time and they are in my custody.

Yeah, if you have friends or family in another country, sending and receiving Bitcoin is really easy compared to the alternative, which would mean both people having to have a bank account, plus waiting for days, and paying excessive fees. Also there are some banks that don't even offer the service!

You realize that all those layers of complexity just add money to the pockets of the people in the banking industry.

Some things, like injuries, you can't plan or prevent, it just happen.
We already have a long list of football players who will not be able to participate in the World Cup due to injuries. The case of Pogba is certainly the most famous, but not the only one.
Messi is an extremely important football player for the Argentine team, their best player and leader, and if he has problems with injury, the coach will surely keep him for more important matches at the World Cup.
It would be a real tragedy if, due to an injury, Messi misses his last chance to become a world champion with the Argentine national team.

Yeah, you just have to be prepared for the worst. You never know what will happen, but I'm sure that Messi is preparing his mind as well as his body for this world cup, as it's going to be his last one. He already decided that he won't be playing in the next one.

I'm not sure what would be worse though, missing it because of an injury, or because he just didn't play exceptionally well...

Did Messi announced this? Because I don't think that a player like Messi will be too old at the age of 38 for the next World Cup. It's to be expected that Ronaldo will retire before the next World Cup but, I'm not so sure about Messi.

Some news sites claimed he has:

Lionel Messi says 2022 World Cup will be his last
"There's some anxiety and nerves at the same time. It is the last one," he told Star Plus.

Argentines are getting crazy to see Messi win this world cup:

Argentines forsake buying homes to see Messi play in World Cup

We'll have to see what happens, but it looks like yes, it is the last one for Messi.
