2781  Economy / Speculation / Re: What you'll do when BTC price will go down heavily and fast? on: January 01, 2021, 06:36:01 PM
Which drop are you counting?

Last time I think we did $17k-->13k-->$23k. And last time I sold at $8.5k and $6k but I was just fiddling with what happens in a pump and dump considering it was my first and I was busy with quite a few other things at the time.

I imagine I'll sell some as we get in the region of $250k+ (whenever that happens) and sell some towards the bottom again but I keep using it for buying groceries and other stuff so I'll also keep doing that regardless of price while it's still possible.

Blame the subsequent rulers of Rome. Dang egotistical pricks.
haha. Yeah someone ruined it about 2065 years ago for you guys, otherwise for the past 3000 years we have been celebrating new year at the first day of spring which makes more sense Cheesy

I'm sure we just celebrate all three (uk)...  Any excuse to have a Yule to get us through winter!
2783  Other / Off-topic / Re: [???] If an investor is not accredited but also he/she is not a U.S person on: January 01, 2021, 04:06:31 PM
What are you trying to trade?

Bitcoin is a multinational asset if its that so you only have to check your local legislation and ensure you comply with both yours and wherever the seller is (youll probably find closer sellers).
2784  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: few questions from newbie on: January 01, 2021, 03:39:13 AM
well, i see some new members are more than welcome from the community to open self-moderated/locked topics
and some seems like are not ( from your advice here to me )
who and how people decide which newbies can be accepted to open that kind of topics?
*edit: i see also "merit" under my activity, what is that

no one should be locking a post without replies. If you're below a member rank or have negative trust, you can expect to require some negative trust.

Scams aren't moderated by moderators but they may delete some topics if a scam looks obvious to them or has a very high chance of being a scam..

If you don't self mod and don't lock your topic then you'll be fine.

I think some members of higher rank and that are trusted self mod and lock topics without replies which isnt considered untrustworthy (it might limit how many people can respond to them though - eg newer members can't send many PMs a day).

Merit is a score that helps you rank up: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0
2785  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: few questions from newbie on: January 01, 2021, 02:47:49 AM
Don't make self moderated or locked topics. You'll turn away genuine custom.

I'm not sure on who can create autobuy links, I wasn't sure there was a limitation but I wouldn't trust them as much as dealing with a person.

As a new member of the forum you SHOULD (potentially must) use escrow. You might also want to have people vouch (give them a free or discounted products) to get reviews and aid your reputation in running something legit.
2786  Economy / Economics / Re: Macro effects of gold stored in a metals depository versus btc on an exchange on: December 31, 2020, 07:37:32 PM
Are you comparing bullion stored in vaults by the company or vaulted by the buyer?

If it's the former then I can see a key difference is that you can demand your btc or fiat value from the exchange, I think you can only sell your metals back to the bullion services normally and not withdraw them. There's also normally inflation added to the vaulted assets as a service charge (you may buy 100g of gold but you may physically own 60g after a while due to the company selling extra gold to pay for security and other things) .
2787  Economy / Economics / Re: Money on: December 31, 2020, 06:52:45 PM
Legally accepted money is only currency that the court has promised it'll accept ("legal tender") that's it...

If $F1000 were given to every person, it'd be worthless. If we say EVERY human in the world is capable of about $800/year of economic output in a "fair" system -eg no geographical limitations - then your $F are already realistically worth $0.8 each.

At the start, if half of the population of India, Africa and South America are despirate to cash out the money then that's $F2tr that's already being dumped on the market for normal dollars (at this point I imagine fake dollars to drop below 0.1$ at least)...

Something like this actually happened when bitfinex got hacked. They gave every user the equivelant to what was hacked in a dollar token and they opened trading on that, apparently they've paid every token holder back through buybacks but a month after that market was opened, dollars were being sold for 3 cents.
2788  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It seems I got hacked. How to protect? on: December 31, 2020, 05:47:25 PM
I'd change virus to the more broader term "malware" which can also include downloading a wallet from an unofficial source.

I think there have been versions of fake electrum websites that have electrum+[a crypto related word] as their domain.

Rather than having a cold wallet/system setup you could use a hardware wallet instead for a resembled level of security.

2FA is more secure when done using a "secret key" such as Google authenticator. On top of that there may be possibilities of using 3fa (something you have - password, something you can generate - a 2fa key, something you are - normally biometrics but you might be able to limit an exchange to only accept withdrawals to one address unless you do kyc or something).

You might want to clarify on "registers" do you mean use special characters and uppercase and lowercase on passwords?
2789  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I doing anything wrong by holding bitcoin?⁰ on: December 31, 2020, 04:31:57 PM
I put all my bitcoins in the coinbase(KYC).  Is it safe or dangerous for me?

How good are you at staying virus free and keeping your devices secure? If you're fairly good at not clicking random links or downloading random stuff and you're the only person with access to your computer then you can safely use a software wallet or you can buy a trezor or ledger (from official sites only - not amazon or another reseller).

If not you should be fairly safe with coinbase but exchanges are hard to trust, coinbase seems to have randomly lost a bunch of users kyc info also recently so (but they probably prioritise funds over other data with security methods anyway) ...
2790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I doing anything wrong by holding bitcoin?⁰ on: December 31, 2020, 04:04:25 PM
As long as it isn't funds you despirately needed then you're fine holding them in bitcoin.

It's your choice whether you hold funds in an exchange or in a wallet and you haven't specified which but if you're wanting to use a wallet like electrum or bitcoin core I'd suggest sending a few transactions to and from the wallet and exchange with small amounts so you get used to sending funds. I'd also suggest, whenever you send funds to an address, check the first and last 5 characters match between Windows/screens and optionally check a random string in the middle of the address is there too (just a few characters or try to make out a word).
2791  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The question of Mining. on: December 31, 2020, 12:09:57 PM
I don't think it's possible to use your machine to mine these days. Most miners are very high power and it's unlikely a computer would be able to keep up with that (unless you've a graphics card).

And no you shouldn't have put this in mining, it's very heavily moderated...
2792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin be tamed? CME suspends their Bitcoin Future Trading Platforms. on: December 30, 2020, 11:10:22 PM
Taming innovation is a bit like expecting to put out a house fire that's already consumed 2 storeys with a small bucket of water - it's just not going to happen or the innovation will move around the bucket.

I can imagine if everyone's long then they dont want to be the only ones betting short.
2793  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Push Notification on: December 30, 2020, 05:23:02 PM
I think a lot of Web wallets and payment processors like blockchain.com have a watching only feature for stuff like this.
So my only option is to use the wallet watcher from blockonomics? I assume that's the safest way to get notified? isn't it?

You can use any wev wallet with a watching only function? But you'd still have to use a Web wallet.. I'm confused as you quoted the example I gave and mentioned your original?

If you did end up using an online version I'd suggest using a vpn or tor to set up and access the online account (for privacy purposes).

And use an email address generated (as apposed to using something like a phone number with an email extension - since it's easy to identify who you are).
2794  Other / Meta / Re: What to do with posts like this? on: December 30, 2020, 05:00:47 PM
Yes I can confirm that.
Any "regular moderator" can use the button in the sections for which he is responsible Smiley
I do not like to change content. Normally I only intervene if the formatting is incorrect in multiple quotes, if a source is incorrectly specified or illegal links are spread.

So it is not always completely deleted. But I try to make as few changes as possible to posts that are not from me.
Yeah it must be the name thing the reason why most don't. In case they miss something that's scammy or add their name to something already low quality.

frodocooper is moderator who is heavily moderating mining section and maybe 90% of posts there are edited by him.
This is his daily job.  Sad

Awwww I haven't seen how his baby's been doing ever since I made a mining topic on serious discussion and it didn't get deleted...
2795  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Push Notification on: December 30, 2020, 04:40:49 PM
I think a lot of Web wallets and payment processors like blockchain.com have a watching only feature for stuff like this.

I don't think you'd be able to do it with electrum itself since they closed rpc connections and you'd also have to leave your system running with any alternative.

You might be able it edit the source code though to get it to notify you of a new transaction being created.
2796  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding Blockchain Technology on: December 30, 2020, 04:02:55 PM
Has mitigation of 51% attacks actually been done? Technically for a coin like decred (from what I remember) you'd need 51% mining power and 51% staking power but it's still only 51. Are there chains with higher consensus mechanisms?

Secure protocols are essential though.
2797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Time to convert your LTC into BCH - I see BCH may follow Bitcoin as of 2016 on: December 30, 2020, 01:34:46 PM
If there's a bull run continuation: more people have heard of bitcoin and it has a stronger security record.

The people that invest into bcash are being scammed (bitcoin.com) if you're ethically happy with that then earth is not a good place for you.

Although I don't really know what ltc is doing or where it'll go from here it's still a pretty sound coin, just kinda floats and waits for an innovation to be tested on it... If they finalise mimblewimble on ltc I can imagine a spike (if it's still getting it).
2798  Other / Meta / Re: Unlock my account pls. on: December 30, 2020, 01:28:50 PM
You need a date and an email address at least in the message you're signing.

This link is more appropriate to do it discretely: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0
2799  Economy / Economics / Re: The supply issue on: December 30, 2020, 02:24:24 AM
Unless supply somehow increases then yes, but increasing supply might dramatically drop. The price and adding 0s to the end is ultimately a better idea for deflationary assets (the zeros coming after the decimal point).

The 21million is in the code and would require a consensus from miners at least in order to increase the figure.

If anyone wants to prove their tweet, I require 2^64 grains of wheat flour.

2800  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - How do I add BTC into my balance from my receiving address? (Newbie) on: December 29, 2020, 03:17:16 PM
It should already be in your balance, check the bottom left of the screen. It'll either say the amount you've sent or 0 (+amount you sent unconfirmed).
