2781  Economy / Economics / Re: Always Have a financial record in whatever business you own on: May 23, 2023, 02:15:35 PM

Long story short, I educated him on how to keep financial records and record every single penny that comes in and goes out of his business. I also made him understand how this can help him cut losses and make more profit.

The things you pointed out are not peculiar to your friend alone in such small scale businesses. Most owners of such businesses don't see it as something that they can turn into a big business venture but they only see it as an end in itself, like a means to only feed, go with the girls and to sustain just immediate hunger and funfair.

They don't see it as a business that they can bestow to heirs and for that one of the challenges to it is they don't believe they have a future in the business. They don't see it as SME and they don't think about the future but to consider it as a time to hold on to pending when bigger employment job will come then they will fold it up and abandon it thereby killing the circle of SME growth that are suppose to be a good engineering to the economy.

Such barbing saloon business is suppose to be handled properly because they are part of small businesses and the government is interested in them. A more wiser business person on it can write proposals to government and may get access to loan for expansion and advertise the business online then you see more customers.

The buttom line is your friend is not seeing what he has found his hand to be doing as a business, he doesn't consider a future with it but looking for a white collar job.
2782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your Life After 10 years in Bitcoin... on: May 22, 2023, 02:59:06 PM
So for you, if you ONLY have 1 year (or a few years) in bitcoin, you have a long journey ahead of you in terms of putting your own resolution to the test.. your resolution in terms of how you are going to accumulate BTC and how you are going to maintain your BTC holdings as compared/contrasted to other places you could place your value.... including your finances, time and energies.
Yeah I have a very long way to go and that's why most times I feel bad when I can't buy at every Instance I get a nice point to buy and I guess this was also one of the reasons most people didn't grab most of the opportunities bitcoin  had to offer.
I basically  don't have any hodlings now which made me realize that even people who missed out when bitcoin price was very low didn't do so intentionally, and some of them wished they could  buy but maybe didn't have the money to buy.

I had a plan already to use some of my campaign  rewards to invest for a longer time and I'm hoping to smile at the end.
Thanks for the advice sir.

What shall it profit us to regret about not investing in bitcoin due to one reason or the other. In life there is what could be regarded as missed opportunity and that means it is a lesson for readiness incase another opportunity will present itself. Many people have criticized themselves for not being early adopters of bitcoin, they believe that those who bought in then are the only ones that have made profit in bitcoin but they simply didn't understand the bitcoin technology, bear/bull and the investment potential of bitcoin.

@Obari, you have said you are planning to invest your campaign rewards for a long time and that is a good plan, that is another opportunity presented to you because in a year or two from now if you can you will check the btc value you are selling out this year (2023) and you compare the value in 2025 or 2027, it will not be the same in value. You will realize in your wallet record that the value then would be higher but then you had already used it. So if you keep some today, it will serve as asset invested in the future. Like  -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said,
“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run walk, if you can't walk crawl, but by all means keep moving.”
2783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: About football betting on: May 22, 2023, 01:25:32 PM

and with the bookmakers already making it easier with the odds, you could go and pick the lesser odds as those teams are the ones with the more likely chance to a win the match but the funny thing is that these bookmakers actually get these odds all wrong sometimes and mislead gambler to choosing the wrong teams.

About football betting, odds are not really criteria to focus on, many bettors know this and they don't rely on only odd, odds can deceive you. Bettors look at head to head performance, players involved in the match, team injury and fitness, zeal to win and nature of future matches ahead. I have bet a high odd game (in the number of tens) and it was successful against a very low odd of 1.45 odd and after that experience I began to understand that bookmakers may be wrong. So small odds are not likely having winning chance, you have to under study both teams to know the stronger and favourable to win.
2784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gas station payment with bitcoin. on: May 21, 2023, 04:38:32 PM
You have really done something good for your locality.

That is a good investment and I heard it is a lucrative area to invest now because of the returns coming out from it since the patronage is high. It is one of the essential services that you are offering because people most eat and I believe your station has brought the distance closer for the people around it. Having the duo means of payment will make your establishment more resounding in the hearts of your customers. Those that are not knowledgeable about bitcoin now has the opportunity to learn about it. However, you need a wallet that will be easily accessible for you on the business, you can choose a non custodian wallet, remember not your keys not your coin.

Kudos to you on this achievement.
2785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Gambling Operator Court Case on: May 20, 2023, 08:47:09 PM
He accuses the operator of failing to stop him, which led to a substantial loss.

This is a funny thing that happens in betting arena but to be serious it is not the fault of the operator that he lost so much money. Well if he has gone on to the court, I think what he is likely to be looking at is:

1. The terms and conditions if there is account limit or limitation that will stop the player from playing if he has gotten to a certain number of games played or duration.

2. Manipulation, this is in the case the first point was proved that there account limitation so it will become an onus to prove that the operator manipulated his account to deactivate the limit order so that he will continue playing. Other than these area of manipulation of account limit, I don't see how a gambler that have chosen to try his luck to double his money would turn back to cause trouble after loosing his money by himself.
2786  Economy / Economics / Re: The Role of Education in Financial Literacy on: May 18, 2023, 02:16:10 PM

On the other hand, some argue that education in finance and economics does not necessarily equate to financial literacy. They point out that many successful investors are self-taught, and that practical experience is the best teacher. Moreover, they contend that education in finance can often be expensive and not accessible to everyone.

I subscribe to this school of thought in a way that if we mean education to mean formal education to have influence in financial literacy and management of funds, I would argue on that because education is education and apart from academic purposes, the best form of education is the informal and by extension semi formal education because that is were the family acculturate all the necessary form of knowledge and wisdom to its member. Intelligence being a part of family inheritance and brilliance is perhaps an academic exercise. However I would agree that there is a relation to education to the learning of financial literacy where it involves cryptocurrency because there are different compartment of cryptocurrency that you actually need to read and write, have a little above basic education to understand it technology, blockchain etc. Most people and youths that are finding it difficult to understand bitcoin and the basic means of usage which is send and receive of coins are mainly people of less education.

Until recently, and before knowing this place I always thought that anything trading or business online is a fraud.

Your post shows the resolve to learn about bitcoin and all around it and this platform is going to help you do that in the long run but don't throw your guards away to embrace everyone and everything online to be true and genuine in whatever is said to you. Many people may yet approach you for investment but be wise and ask questions.

On your own part, there are things you need to do to secure your financial investment like you don't have to compromise your wallet address, keep every password away from third party. Bitcoin is a decentralised digital currency and so you don't need third parties interference. Don't oblige email messages requiring your response or reply when you don't know the sender or not expecting any email.

2789  Economy / Economics / Re: Helpful mineral resources on: May 17, 2023, 10:12:25 AM
There are about three private exporters of crude who are making a heavy sum from it, and they will always try every possible way to make sure that their earnings remain.

Just like the importers of generators in Nigeria have also discouraged and frustrated the electricity sector, all those people are connected to government through friends and cronies. Those are cabals that only want the self enrichment and not for the good of the country.

Let's watch and see what will happen if the Dangote proposed refinery is concluded and commissioned, and if there will be a little change even though it is a private refinery.

The people in government see it as cash and carry business, no sincerity and that is why most of them have argued that government have no business doing business which is just a fallacy because we have seen other countries government involved in businesses as competition for other private businesses and provided enabling environment for those running capitalist and the socialist are more in control of government businesses.

Nigerian situation is just not understandable, a capitalist system that encourages monopoly. It is appalling the rate of corruption and that pulls down the political will to take political actions and decisions.

Africa is rich in natural resources but the leaders are only rulers who are interested in pride, embezzlement and inhuman tenets for the masses. Particularly in Nigeria, for the records, all the states have a commercial deposit of natural resources but yet the economy is nothing to talk about because of corruption, vote buying and rigging to force unqualified people with no admiring administrative records in power who don't know their left from right and can not take proper and sincere investment decisions to harness these resources . So what do we expect?

2791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS an asset. Do you think it's bad? on: May 15, 2023, 10:45:45 AM

What do you guys think about that? Do you think it's okay that we as a community treat Bitcoin as an asset and not as a technology that should be used to give people freedom from the banks?

Sorry to say but the forum or community won't identify bitcoin as different from what reality that other people globally identify it with . Going by the bitcoin white paper, the other part of regarding bitcoin as an asset to be traded or invested upon for financial return could be regarded as secondary while the other part of freedom for the people to have their privacy and financial freedom against government control is the primary objective of bitcoin. So the way we can analyse your question is that it is both primary and secondary purpose which is for financial freedom in control and privacy through virtual cryptographic techniques and the secondary purpose is to regard it as an asset that is not regulated.
2792  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: May 14, 2023, 03:09:13 PM
I think Monza can improve their position in the standings now. I think there will definitely be a lot of people who will lose money if they bet on Napoli's win and it's best that from now on it's time for us to stop betting on Napoli until the season ends because that will only make us lose money in betting, moreover the results that Napoli achieve are also uncertain, that's increase the risk in multibet.

This is a good advise to follow not to put hope in Napoli on betting them to win as it is in seria A. I won't be surprise if there is speculation that the match was sold out because to me Napoli didn't give in there best in the game especially at the first half that they were behind by 1: 0. During the tail end of the second half, they only tried to make effort with no real bite at the Monza defence, I only saw victor osimhen eager to get at least a goal but to no avail. The match ended 2:0 in favour of Monza. With the situation now, Monza has jumped to number 9 on the table while Napoli is at 83 points with juventus behind at number 2 with 66 points. Napoli is good as done for the league so betting in there favour may not be profitable.
2793  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: How would you invest N100,000? on: May 13, 2023, 03:24:30 PM
If we reason am for those way dey do from hand to mouth kind of lifestyle and them go like invest that money; crypto no be option o. How long you wan wait kwanu? You no go even fit reason trading because, 2sec them fit collect all from your hand. One place way I feel say gor nice for hand to mouth people na on food.

All these people way dey cook food for student environment. Once your cooking nice, people go patronise you and you grow from there.

You dun think about the disadvantage for food business. What if one day people die from eating at your restaurant wey fit be your fault or not. You dun lose customers be dat oh that's if dem go allow you to dey sell there again. Food business sure but stress dey am and sometimes the profit no go come out due to increase in food items for market. If you ask me make I choose I go prefer investment wey go bring capital gain then restaurant wey go bring cash flow although cash flow dey very necessary for life.

Right from time me dey like capital gains that's why I dey find am very difficult to do manual businesses. Anything wey get to do with business with me, I dey like am online wey be say me fit manage am without leaving my bed. I no like too much stress although I get your point very well but the house , how una see am. Make una forget say una dey Bitcoin forum. Make we talk like brothers for here, between crypto investment and that fast food establishment wey our brother dey reason. Which one for sure pass no forget the budget wey dem give us above oh.

First, make we leave that said say person fit die after eating the food because chances say that one go happen dey small. So I know think say the risk wey dey inside food business high pass crypto investment and again the time to enjoy crypto investment fit still long pass food business especially if na hodl you dey hodl and the guarantee self na for few coins as we know like BTC, Eth or maybe BnB, usdt and very few more. But the risk for food own be say food fit sour if customers no come but at all at all, na chop dem go chop am before e go sour or spoil.

However if we dey talk about ROI and the stress involved, Omo nothing pass make you dey your bed dey press oo. Make una no misunderstand the press wey I mean but if you dey house dey control your business online, na heaven for inside earth be that oo. Na who dem put sugar for him mouth wey vomit am ? Abi na who stress help?

Note: Regards to Op question, me I go put 90% for crypto and inside that 90% , bitcoin go collect 60%, Eth 15% and BnB 15%. The remaining 10% from the 100k go be for miscellaneous  Grin

Meanwhile 100k no big to invest for Nigerian economy except you be artisan wey need to buy small small hand machines.
2794  Economy / Reputation / Re: How secure are you when unknown user chats you up? on: May 13, 2023, 12:36:36 PM
I am fully secure in my view. I remember a person that chatted with me after I joined a telegram group, telling me that he is from Brazil and introduced me to meta trade or something. I laughed and start to take his time too. Where it landed is a lie from me to have a physical visit with me in my country. It ended as nothing, no scam success because I knew he was a scammer even before the start of our conversation. Nothing like online friends to me, they are all scammers and they have not disappointed me before not to be a good person.

Nice way to play along and get to bust the bubble of the intended scammer. I do such sometimes too when I have the time in my hands but if I don't have time I just tell an unknown chatter off.

I'm taking aback when a new and unknown chat greets my phone, it immediately gets my 6th sense activated to watch out for scam related discussions and like you rightly said, it usually ends up the expected way; leading to scam but I don't fall for such.

Recently I got busier and I just ignor strangers. I did not also join groups again and nothing like new stranger 's messaging.

This is surely a way that the unknown persons are avoided. When you reduce the rate of sign ups and joining online groups then we have already done half of the stress not to get involved with such people because in actual fact we are the architect of it, very limited number of people can get our contacts if we remain on our lane but by joining unsolicited services, telegram groups that are not required then we are opening arrays of unwanted chats.
2795  Economy / Economics / Re: Concers About Going in Business with a Friend on: May 12, 2023, 04:37:17 PM
Many years ago, I heard the story of a man whose business partner did dirty. They were business partners for almost 5 years and the suddenly the business partner left with company's money. Even after several years, this man didn't recovered. He ended up sounding it as a warning to his kids never to go into business with anyone. The trust was destroyed and never recovered. This is just one of those sad stories.

He would have better educated his children to make the partnership legal by signing documents, providing collateral like guarantors that would indemnify the losses incase a party didn't fulfil obligation as stated in the document. This is what is obtainable in the modern world and not to go into partnership blindly with the hope of trust carrying the long time of the business. This is a mistake on his part and he has succeded to put such fear on his heirs. These days businesses are capital intensive and you need some level of partnership or support to succeed and whichever, whether financial support or partnership is better written in black and white, duties and obligations well spelt out

On the other hand, there are many success stories of friends who went into business together and succeeded to together. If you have ever gone into business with a friend, what were your biggest concerns and how did work through it.

Those who have succeeded have not only relied on trust but documentation of what the business is, its goals and all terms spelt out. It is a lesson and better to make legal document for businesses and not to only rely on trust.
2796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the fate of BTC payment now on: May 12, 2023, 04:00:06 PM
You don't need to create panic in your business and chase your customers away because of the scalability challenge of bitcoin which I think LN is going to be away forward. I don't know the kind of business you run whether online or physical business, whichever way, your customers are bearing the brunt of transaction except you are concerned with the fees they are foregoing.

Moreover, your customers that are dealing in bitcoin transaction to paying the bills should have an idea of the current issue and this is where your managerial skills and conviction ability comes in.

Therefore, you as a business owner should educate and inform your customers more on the ordinal issues of bitcoin currently and remember this is not the first time this is happening, meaning it will be sorted out. Apart from LN payment, and depending on the nature of your business you can introduce them to the option of stablecoins whose fee is merely $1, if they can't part with the fees with bitcoin now.

2798  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation is Poses a Great Challenge for Delayed Gratification on: May 11, 2023, 04:18:52 PM
Some time 4 years ago, I started to save so that I can buy my dream car which was around $15,450. I was determined. I cut a lot of costs and delayed so many gratifications. For example, I stopped going out with the boys. I did a lot more recycling. I quit eating out and opted for cooking my own meal, I didn't buy new clothes, jeweries, electronic devices etc. I was pretty determined to reach my car saving goal. Before I knew what was happening inflation struck and it swept across all industries. Did you know that my dream car that was an equivalent of $15,450 rose up to $23,680. My heart sunk. It took me doing some additional jobs and twice as much time to rise the new money. So, when someone said that inflation posses a great challenge for delayed gratification. That is, delayed gratification isn't as rewarding especially during inflation, recession. I agreed with them. Do you?

This is rather funny to me. While reading I got smiling  Grin not because your dream is not superb but because I knew before I will finish reading your story, felt something would take all the money and yes it happened that way. And one other thing that can push down your savings for buying such a big car apart from the rise in inflation could be health issues, yes health issues. However, I have heard that monies used to buy cars or large properties may not be monies cut down from important house hold necessities. What about in the bid to starve yourself off nutritious food, you start lacking important healthy nutrients that will cause you damage to your system.

Anyway meanwhile, you didn't tell us if you have got your big car Grin

Inflation is not tackled by the way you have tried to do it. IMO I believe if you want to be better in inflation or recession, you have to increase your earning power and not to try to live the way you did by starving yourself and at the end you ended up going back to zero. So you can increase the rate or speed of easing the reward of your delayed gratification by diversification. This is the best to cultail the effect of inflation or recession. For example, if a country is going through recession they are advised to invest and this is why they go borrowing or seek for financial help from other countries. A clue is therefore taken from this that diversification is one panacea to inflation.
2799  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another side of Sports betting you may not know about on: May 11, 2023, 02:28:33 PM
But this is the first time I am reading that sports betting can affect the game negatively and results in reduced public confidence. Does this apply to the NFL only? What about soccer and other sports? Are they exempted? Let's talk about this.

Such act for a player to embark on betting on themselves or their team is going to have an effect on the performance at the end of it all because there will be a level of biase to the activity of the players and those who are influenced. Some team have it as a rule not to do that and there are penalties for that if caught.

This should not surprise you and it is not only NFL that is involved in this kind of policy. The league actually started investigating the allegation a month before finally coming to the conclusion and suspending 5 players which include:
Quote
Sources: NFL suspended 5 players, including #Lions WR Jameson Williams, for violations of NFL gambling policy. #Lions’ CJ Moore & Quintez Cephus, plus #Commanders' Shaka Toney, are suspended indefinitely (at least 1 year). Williams & DET’s Stanley Berryhill are suspended 6 games.
.

This is also part of the regulation that some casinos or gambling companies stipulate for their employees not to embark on betting for themselves but only to focus on staking or betting done by customers. Most times, if the employees are found to be violating such conditions, they are sacked instantly. This is happening in gambling companies in Nigeria.
