281  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 One Fan (S7-F1) - Notlist3d on: July 04, 2016, 09:41:03 PM
Is it louder then two fan antminer?

I have not done any DB readings with it since it's in my mining area. There are some big fan's and professional gable fan out there so it is always loud.  So it is not really good to get a DB reading of sound but I can handle a lot of heat even in Midwest Summers using lot's of CFM's to move heat.

But it is not a quiet miner with 6000 RPM fan, but the 2 fan model is not quiet either.  If you can handle a regular S7 sound I don't see the S7-F1 being an issue.  But if your worried about sound honestly neither miner is for you unless you plan on doing something to lessen sound.  And on a side note the one fan with higher RPM has done a really good job on cooling, I had planned on adding a 2nd fan but have not done it yet as the one bigger fan has done very well.
282  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Solar array starting to look good. on: July 04, 2016, 02:55:02 AM
I will highlight that.  I have done a few small shocks with different power installs but 1 time I managed a solid across the chest (felt my heart contract) shock.

I was installing a 4 foot replacement fluorescent bulb on an over head light it was hot I was sweating and I was having trouble getting pins in on each side.
I was doing it hot with power to the  fixture(badbadbad) so I reach out a bit and each hand touched each end and I run the power across my chest.  My arm pits were sweaty  and my hands a bit damp with sweat so nice contact.  The power f-ing hurt  big time.  I felt like someone sneezed my heart inside my chest. Plus my sweating arm pits felt seriously weird .

And we are talking about  the power was from this type of device.

https://www.electricalmarketplace.com/productfile/index/view/fileid/173/

since it was one fixture it was about 60-65 watts  and I think I was lucky to be able to write a warning about power.

I think most people would think 62 watts dc is a  safe  level to get shocked with it was not.

If possible everyone should turn off power and not work with live electricity.  For my mining area I have 2 way's of turning off power before I work on anything power related.  First is power splitting from power meter it split's to house, and mining area. I can flip a switch there and it kills all power to my mining area it was all done from power company so all very professional.

I then should have no power in mining area but I take it one step further and flip the main in breaker box for mining area.   So I have 2 separate switches that should keep power off if I'm working on it.  And of-course check it before doing anything.   But I really like having the redundancy of 2 even though one should be enough.  I agree with being super cautious when working with power.
283  Other / Meta / Re: Copy/paste password: huge issues with bitcointalk.org (for me at least) on: July 04, 2016, 02:41:25 AM
Get a password manager.

get hacked once and lose everything.... uh i dont know if a password manager is a good idea at all :S

Look at one that requires a physical token.  I personally like Yubikey's I showed them  being used for blockchain.info before - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1353231.0

But there are password managers that use them.   Then you need a regular password for password manager and also to physically press a button on a Yubikey.  So you have 2 factor security if using password + Yubikey. You have to be there in person it can't be activated remotely as you have to press button.
284  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cheap electricity on: July 04, 2016, 02:36:37 AM
hi,
i have access to cheap electricity around 1 cent/kWh.
if i buy 5  s9 antminer do you think its a good investment ? What would you say ?

I would check math and make sure it's 1 cent/KWH as that is very very cheap.  Make sure all taxes/fees are included in it.  But if you have 1 cent/KWH you should be able to mine with even a S7 for quite a long time.    You would not need the newest efficiency miner at that price.

But again make sure your math is correct.  Also check how much electricity you have as not sure if very limited amount.  But if you have a decent amount of electricity at that price, and can handle heat/sound you have a very good investment opportunity obviously.
285  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: July 04, 2016, 02:25:57 AM
the F1 version with one fan was a bad idea. Unless, you throw them nice fresh air, they overheat.

They need 2 fans to be safe.

It really works flawless though.  I have one and had 0 issues with it, if something goes wrong it should shutdown at 80 c.   I do have a second fan but never did attach it to it as it is working good.  It is summer and hot for many and I don't see S7-F1's burning up.... so seems to work fine.   But I do agree it takes away some safety with redundancy of having two fan's even though we have not been seeing them burn up.

I also have some decent sized fan's blowing air through my mining area to.  So guess that is part of why I'm not to worried.

Well it's the summer for sure here in NA ... the two fans versions just don't care about it and keep mining at default freq. The F1 version suffers tho. I downclocked them until I received my second fans.

I just have one of the S7-F1's so maybe I got lucky but mine has handled Midwest heat up to low 90's F outside (which it is currently). No suffering so far default settings/freq.  I do push air with high CFM fan's through miner area and a commercial gable fan to get rid of heat.   So that could possibly help.

It is a hot day but you can see my S7-F1 is handling it fine even during summer temps. - http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m25/notlist3d/S7-F1/test_zpswuvatl7q.jpg

Put one of these onto your single fan units:

I already have a fan and it's ready to go it just has not been needed.  I did a hand's on with the S7-F1 a bit back - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1471801.0 .  You can see I have a standard back ready to go with a fan.

You can order a fan from BitmainWarranty.com - https://bitmainwarranty.com/shop/products/us/fan_s7/

I just simply have not needed it yet even during summer it has mined fine for me.  Some day I still plan on adding one fan to back.  But I just have not done it as it's handled mining great with no issues.
286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Avalon Avalon6 Setup [HD] on: July 04, 2016, 02:20:38 AM
Instead of setting up all of that it is going to be much easier to use a pool that allows solo mining.   A popular one is http://solo.ckpool.org/, with it all the work is done and you can use it like a regular pool.

Also some pools like antpool you can select the miner and turn it into solo mode.  So also very easy to use and all the hard work has been done.    I think using a pool like one of these two is going to be far more popular then setting it up yourself.  But if your looking for project you always can set it up yourself.

Payday for the 4th of July?

With tomorrow being the 4th I can give him a break as a lot have it off, or have taken it off (as far as US).   Not all though, but pretty common a lot took a long weekend.

I do hope after we get an official comment as we will be hitting 2 weeks on 4th.  We have always been treated fairly in past.  So I'm hoping they are able to go into bot and turn it into 2 weeks like it was and do 2 payments.  But not sure with no reset hoping they can do it though.

Boy would be something to see it move over 1000.  Diff would truly jump.

we are at 704 usd

I would love to keep seeing it go up.   To see 1K again would be amazing and great for miner's I personally think.   But still a way's from it.  But fun to think/dream about.

The interesting thing is with all the spike in price we might not see as much "old" gear drop off depending on electricity price and what the gear is.  Assuming they can mine profitable.
289  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How plausible is this invention? on: July 02, 2016, 10:50:20 PM
i think something like this will be the future of bitcoin.

but not for to mine for you, but large companies..

think about it.. when asics get small enough.. and they will.. electronic companies can put them in their devices and you probably would never know it.

The problem is heat and electricity even on small scale.   Imagine cellphones a ton of people have smartphones with internet access.   But if it was mining it would drain batteries faster.   So problems like this I think prevent some items.

So one day down the road... but we are not there yet on adoption to have these good dual purpose items.  Really best dual purpose item is a GPU.  Look at RX 480 gamers are having a hard time to get due to miners (in my opinion).  And could be low levels at release adding to this.

im not saying battery operated stuff.
like your coffee maker, or tv..

if something like bitcoin becomes main stream, a large electronics company like samsung could put asics in every wifi enabled device and just give them away..  i bet lots of people would take a free tv knowing that it takes a couple extra watts to mine.

I think we agree i bolded the part I think has to happen.  We need mass adoption and "main stream" after that yes ton's of great things.  I mean even a simple thing like computer motherboards... add a asic chip simple already powered.   Would be interesting to see but again until we hit the main stream I just don't see large companies putting BTC mining chips in.

For the foreseeable future it will remain big asic miner's that will control the mining game.  But there is all kinds of exciting thing's when we hit "main stream".   Kinda a sidenote to that is there has to be a public education of such to some that bitcoin is not just "dark web" stuff.  Regular new's articles are bad at this.   I do see it getting better but still a way's to go for general public. But that is why people asking for investors go with "Blockchain" not "Bitcoin" when mentioning investment's currently (at least a large portion do currently).

how long this campaign closed for new participants ? any specific date to accept new participants?

Not that we know about, sorry.

This campaign is a great campaign with that there is not a ton of turnover.  Someone like me I have been a part of it for over a year... and don't plan on moving.  We can count on no matter what happens it get's sorted out which means a lot.  Marco has done a great job to keep this campaign going so long.

So no date's if there ever is one front page will change.  But it's current message is true:
No New Spots!
As long as low turnover keeps up I don't see it changing.   If it change's front page will be updated to open... but I honestly don't see spot's opening as low turnover.   Which I realize is not the anwser you want.
292  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s7 setup question on: July 01, 2016, 11:48:44 PM
Actually i decided to buy a power supply its more cheaper than the s7-ln
If u considering $/TH

And I know there's nothing free in this world it's just
Im not paying anything with legal way 😜😜😂😂

And what do you mean with manual withdrawal
And how many Th/s do i need to mine solo

Not sure what you mean with this.   If your looking to do something illegal... you won't find many who are willing to help.   Hopefully I'm reading it the wrong way.  Talking about payment, and not legal.... just jump's to all kinds of possible bad things. Care to expand on this?
293  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread on: July 01, 2016, 09:01:09 PM
Still surprised people are running these S3 miners.

Brings back good memories.

I refer to the S3's as tanks in a good way.   They really seem to just keep going and going, I hope all my S3's are mining for someone still.  Many of these have had multiple owners and keep moving around.

Also S3's are miners that had personalities some ran better at certain freq then others, so it really got the miner to tweak it.  I have fond memories of tweaking my S3 to S3+'s.
294  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Give me advises about bitcoin maining on: July 01, 2016, 08:51:37 PM
You'll need to buy the right miner at the right time, first off. Initially, a new miner that costs 2000 like the S9 might seem like a lot, but considering the fact that you've made a bit over 250 USD if you bought it and started mining immediately after receiving makes the cost a lot lower. Also, consider the fact that the S9 still costs around 2000 USD - it may be risky, but buying a miner just as it comes out is risky, but can work. 2000 is overpriced for an S9 imo, because profit just slows down more and more every day past the halving. If you're going to invest in miners, also have cheap electricity. People with "free" electricity are much better off than people without free electricity, because the cut from power costs is lower. I would say it's not too late to buy an S9 farm right now, but it is riskier than a week ago or a month ago.

There are just so many variables I still say you cannot group all in one category.   Most people with "free" have a limit of a certain amount of electricity, also a lot tend to be apartment (there are a few that have at business) but I think majority are apartment's.  So these need to make sure the can handle the heat/noise.   And you can do it even with the loudest of miners at one point when doing reviews on miners I slept with them in room for a bit, but something to think of and some do things to make quieter.

I think it can be done with paying for electricity, I would not attempt at higher then 10 cent's as you can find hosting for it.   The question is how long can you run a miner at that... it comes to speculation but I would guess some will mine to a point and sell and ROI.  Others will cheap electricity will mine them into the ground and pull off ROI.   There are lot's of way's to do it.

Also a HUGE thing that does not get mentioned much is if your buying in BTC or USD.   If you buy a 2,000 USD machine in dollars then you just need to make over that 2,000 to have a return, a big upswing in BTC price can help a lot with this one. There is argument you could be better off of bought and held coins... but still ROI is ROI.  Now say if you pay 3 BTC your end goal is to get more then 3 BTC.   So I think what your purchasing with is a factor that should be mentioned more.
295  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: July 01, 2016, 05:14:15 PM
Calm down people, as every time, they might be a bit late but they ALWAYS but ALWAYS pay us in the end. It s vacation time, probably they re doing a bot of R&R, no problem there. Just be a bit more patient, I m sure we ll get some word from them by the end of the weekend.

Do you have two personalities? just a few day's ago Smiley

Bot not being reset, 4th day over deadline. Wake up Marco and guys, time to do another round pls.

But I agree they always pay in the end.  I have been in campaign over a year so that should show my trust there.   At this point your right it is a Friday and a lot will take Monday the 4th off(at least in US).  So I can't blame anyone taking this Friday after work through Monday as a break.
296  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: July 01, 2016, 05:02:21 PM
notlist3d did some testing on a bunch of pools with a B1.

http://s100.photobucket.com/user/notlist3d/library/S9?sort=3&page=1

I went back and looked and antpool hashrate was slightly better than some of the others but not drastically and certainly not 20%.

I did a decent amount of testing different pools for fun to see if any difference.  During it I tested F2, Antpool, Kano.is, BTCC, Slush.

Just to compare two here is Antpool (1 day):

Here is Kano.is (2 day)

So when I tested I got 2 pretty close numbers.   So I wont speculate about "ASIC boost" as I just do not have any knowledge about it.  I can say I did quite a few different pools from big to small, very different in my eyes, and never got near a 20 percent difference.  I welcome others to compare and see what they get to.   I think you will have same result's.

There was some error's in my math enough so I deleted post.  Did not want someone to look at it and use it possibly after seeing my error's.(it is quoted above for those who want to see it and need a laugh for the day)

Thanks phil for correction!

*Edit I should also thank for your easy way it is much more elegant

Hello. I am new here and need your help. If you can give me links what can I read to know basic information about mining
And please tell me what is required minimum capital to start this job (to earn 300-1000$ in a month).
Thanks.

the hard part is you mention "this job" at this point for most it's going to be an investment, not a job.   It is in the higher risk/higher reward investments in my eyes.   So it takes a certain type of investor.

We would have to know your electricity price to even have a chance at this.  But you need to look at initial investment vs ROI.  Some you sit a while before you ever see a return.   And it is not till you pay off your miner you really see a return.   So assuming everything goes well you have a bit in most cases till you ever start earning over what you paid.  Also due to difficulty the amount you mine goes down overtime.

So to do it as a "job" consistent earning 300-1000 is going to take a decent investment, and re-investment's due to hashrate rising over time.  Also very broad range of income 1000 is over 3x the 300.  So big difference but you can get a decent idea playing with numbers on a ROI site such as this - https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator
299  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How plausible is this invention? on: July 01, 2016, 01:11:07 PM
I too think that the set of folks that will pay say $500 for a space heater that needs WiFi or and Ethernet to operate correctly to be quite limited. You might get a "Bitcoin Enthusiast" to purchase such a device, but that's about it. No rational consumer is going to pay a significant premium in price just to have their heater mine Bitcoins as a side effect.

This was all the rage last fall (i.e. October of 2015), and the closest thing we have to this is the Antminer R1. No Minining Light Bulbs, no Mining Heaters, no Mining Toasters or Refrigerators. I think the actual benefit all this was to help 21 Inc. to secure $119 million in Venture Capital.

You just have to drink the Koolaid and believe!!!  (heavy dose of sarcasm here)

And that is a huge problem is mass adoption.  When the average consumer goes to get a space heater I think they would go with cheaper one in a lot of cases.   Most of us on the board believe in bitcoin so we would love more appliances that mine... but we need far more adoption.  I think even if on the box "Mines X BTC per winter" a lot would say that's great.... but I want the savings today and I will get the dumb heater.

It just is going to be hard to get mass adoption till we have mass adoption of BTC.   I see for the foreseeable future miners remaining their own device vs dual purpose.     I hope it changes as I would love more devices that are miners, but i think we need more adoption first.

300  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am new to mining. Please guide me on: July 01, 2016, 01:01:09 PM
mining is not profitable at all these days specially for new one who want to build a small farm.

Not true so many varibles in it, you cannot go around making blanket statement's.  Some love to go around saying stuff like this "Mining is dead", "Not Profitable", etc.  But with right electricity price it can STILL be done and is being done.

With S9 there was a HUGE jump in efficiency so now more people can mine after having with it.   But many still will mine. I also dabble in Ether for fun, again still can be done.  OP what is your electricity rate?
