Interesting read here for those who were around in December:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=459631.0

Drexme confesses.

Wow. I'm stunned.

About a month ago I was doing 'research' and landed doges.org, and that's when I noticed Drexme was listed as admin. Was going to mention it here, but then I thought better of it -- maybe he had turned a new leaf, learned a lesson, etc.

Quote
Sure I took 30k worth of NXT from a fundraiser. But it wasn't worth what it is now.

Your bringing back things that happened 2 months ago.

At that time (21-12) the 33900 Nxt would have fetched him 1-1,5 BTC on DGEX.

That's about 600-900 USD theft at prices those days. :/

rickyjames? Wink

What, you think I'm psychic and can just find this guy at the drop of a hat?

OK....

[EDITED TO REMOVE DREXME PERSONAL INFO]

I called the phone number, it's him.  He says that he sold the NXT he took for 0.5 BTC, invested it in Visacoin, and lost it all.    Back in his NXT days he claims he paid for around 30 translations of documents at around 1K NXT each out of his own pocket so in his mind what he took is equal to what he gave so he believes he left NXT even.  He can't understand why anybody would still be interested in all of this after two months have gone by.  He says he currently holds 100K of Doge, which would be worth maybe $250.

I am not up to speed on just what Drexme is supposed to have done, but here he is and here's what he says his side of the story is.

I posted his real identity data over in the "doges.org Drexme is absolute Scum!" thread.  That should be interesting.

Berlin conf
I am still too tired to think about it from the higher perspective. So just a little conclusion. We need to send 2-4 ambassadors to every Bitcoin conf/convention, it is really essential.

Fantastic recap, Salsa... thank you for your hard work!
We should always have someone close to these conventions, this will minimize the costs. Just making that ONE key contact is all that is needed to pay for these events.

Without attending this conference, we wouldnt be discussing building a country's currency on top of NXT. It has a giant advantage over paper money. It cant be counterfeited as long as the NXT network is secure! secondarily no costs for printing.

As soon as the first country, or village, builds a currency on top of NXT, all realworld items will be priced in NXT
I see the Asset Name space getting very crowded.

James

Salsa is exactly right, it takes 3 or 4 people to handle a conference the way we need it done.  The Miami event was 1500+ people, there was barely enough time to meet with all the major players let alone meeting with different crypto supporters. We made it happen, however, additional resources would have gotten us even further.

I'd also recommend reading Nikel's summaries, it's a great way to provide real time information back to the community to take action. It would be nice if we could put together some type of document outlining best practices.

For example, the best way to meet everyone in a circle is asking the primary to introduce you.  When I would talk to someone at the conference, I'd find out who they knew and ask for an introduction. Networking 101 goes a long way when you're surrounded by a crowd that might not be as familiar with how to control the flow at larger trade shows.

So now that we've been to a few of these, I'm curious...is getting a NXT booth or table a good idea, and letting THEM come to US?  Or is gentle non-stop mingling and shaking hands the way to go?

Nice, this on nxt.org will be really cool! Best possible domain

Battle of the domains?  Cheesy

Simply the best possible domain possible.  Shocked

I am not at all sure the NXT community was successful in getting the nxt domain.

HELP NEEDED TO CREATE A LANDING PAGE!

I have registered startnxt.com (and startnxt.net) and would like to create a landing page! I am looking for a designer who will help me to create a simple, but sexy landing page for new users. We have a few clients (including the web client of wesleyh!), a few functions (aliases, AE, transparent forging), two forums and a few other nxt homepages with different onformationsets which needs to be introduced to new Nxters.

The homepages we currently have are not so userfreiendly and contain too much information for Avarage Joe. I want to have a 1-pager, where the user is guided through all the functions of Nxt when he is scrolling down. I donīt want to have too much information (nor too much text, I prefer graphics) on the page, but all the graphics should be clickable and should link to other sites where the user has access to more information (a link to http://info.nxtcrypto.org/ or to the wiki for example).

The focus needs to be on the graphics, not on the information, as this page would only work as a landing page from where the user can navigate to other pages where he can have access to more detailed infos.

I too have thought this is very important and have been considering registering new2nxt.com as the jump page.  If you can get this implemented in the next 2 weeks I would like to get it on biz cards to hand out at the Texas conference.

I'm doing this already with BitVenturer.  Cool

Count me in on this effort as my full-time input on NXT between now and the Texas conference.  This is of critical importance in bringing new users into the fold.   I will assist in generating text / identifying URLS etc. but unfortunately my web design skills are non-existent.  I just checked and the new2nxt.com/net/org domain names are all wide open.  I personally would really prefer this to startnxt - mcjavar, what do you think about this?  Passion/BV - where is a sample of your card design?

DogeCoin goes on par with Peercoin - http://coinmarketcap.com/

when a clone can compete with its parent with no conceivable advantage, this is very dangerous indeed for the idea of digital scarcity. this is very troubling.

Dogecoin is far more popular than Peercoin, it's been pretty much determined to climb up.

It does actually have great advantage: popularity.
Basically Peercoin has no marketing...Nxt cannot suffer the same faith...we have to adopt Dogecoin marketing best practices.

doge needs marketing because it has no substance. we dont need marketing because we do have substance. granted we need to communicate the relevant facts about nxt in a calm and orderly fashion to those who are not aware of those facts. i suppose you could call that marketing. but this is what marketing means to doge, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3oiThw2RxE this we absolutely do not need.

+1

When the doge bubble pops, it will be catastrophic.  The doge price is unsustainable because doge doesn't offer any advantages over bitcoin.

I humbly disagree with both of you.  Digital scarcity is a contradiction in terms,  And Doge offers the little guy coins at a small price, miners the ability to mine at lower difficulty level, and speculators a new beach ball to throw around.  Bitcoin has lost the ability to offer any of these things.

If digital scarcity is a contradiction in terms than why are you so involved in crypto? I mean that would necessarily make investment in any crypto a bad investment?

Any cryptocoin can generate as many or as few of its coins as it wants.  The scarcity aspect of any fiat or crypto currency  is a socially agreed upon factor.  Scarcity only exists as a true factor in precious metals, which is why you are setting up a silver exchange.   I am not into crypto to take advantage of scarcity, but to enforce the originally agreed upon level of scarcity by preventing centralized entities like the US Fed to print trillions of dollars at will.  A well run crypto will never see hyperinflation.  Speculator runnup maybe but not hyperinflation.

ok but this is an admission that digital scarcity exists so long as that agreement holds right?

Yes but to me this is an odd way of phrasing it.  People choose to join a crypto based not on its perceived scarcity but on its adequacy and sufficiency to meet their personal needs.  They will leave a crypto for another one if the old one fails to meet personal needs and the new one does.   Only physical objects can be scarce.  If a digital item is scarce it is only because a centralized power broker says so and others accept that assertion.

Paul Snow, the organizer of the Texas Bitcoin Conerence I am going to March 5-6, is currently in Berlin and is interested in meeting with our NXT reps there.  I am sending his email address to salsacz and the other guys I know are from NXT in Berlin.

I've been emailing Paul politely every few days about a yes or no decision on talking about NXT in Austin as an official speaker.  Apparently it's "no" altho he hasn't said that in so many words.  Now he says, "We can insure you get the price you want on your ticket.  Also, I have a number of interesting things to talk to you about in terms of participating with the conference."  He has asked me to call him this weekend to discuss.

Here's his bio from the TBC literature:

Paul Snow, President, Texas Bitcoin Association and Founder, Passing Bitcoin Around the World

Paul Snow has been writing compilers, interpreters, and Rules Engines for use in graphics, embedded systems, and web applications for over 30 years. He designed and executed the Passing Bitcoin Around the World events. As an Organizer of the Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency meetup group, he organized the Mini Bitcoin Conference in Austin Series, which has grown into the Texas Bitcoin Conference.

there is a link to where you download the client in the op. once you get it set up tell me your address and ill send you some text nxt. i have 68k atm so thats plenty to go around

Perhaps you could repeat this link and some basic instructions in your first post in this thread.

How change password in the NXT account???

You don't.  You will always be the owner of the old account under the old password.  Generate a new password to obtain a new account, and transfer NXT from old to new if necessary.  Use Awesome Password Generator set to 35-50 chars,

I prefer (2). If the method is too complicated, I propose a simplified version - option (3)
  • Use AES Crypt instead of Truecrypt. It is much easier to use.
  • If you're not comfortable using deathswitch.com, we could just encrypt the text file containing passphrase and ask someone we trust to keep it and to email it to the recipients - much the same way we'd need someone to physically take the envelope out of the safe deposit box & post it.
  • Once the text file containing the passphrase has been encrypted, we immediately send decryption key to all other treasurers by ordinary email (no need to use bitmessage). This way we can confirm that the backup process has been completed.
What do you guys think? Once we've agreed on the method, we can post it in the main thread.

I would go with option no. 3.

+1

I will need help though to make sure I don't do something stupid in the process!
I am good with Option 3 as well.  I am in the process of creating two new accounts in support of James/kLee and his efforts on NXTcash.  These would be NXTcashoperatingfund and NXTcashcompletionbonusfund.  Once I have these later today I will have three accounts and three passwords I will cycle through this process.

Not sure what rickyjames thinks, but looks like he's got the envelope solution sorted out. We could use this among the 3 of us.

1. Download AES from https://www.aescrypt.com/download/
2. After installation, drag the AESCrypt.app icon from App folder to desktop
3. Create a new text file. Enter passphrase of your Nxtfund and save it. eg. KLee.txt
4. Drag Klee.txt and drop it over the AESCrypt.app icon on the desktop
5. You'll be prompted to enter a password. Enter a password & click "Continue"
6. You should see the encrypted file KLee.txt.aes in your finder.
7. SECURE DELETE the unencrypted file Klee.txt (important!)
8. Send encryption password to other treasurers by email
9. Give Klee.txt.aes and treasurers' emails to someone you trust, with instructions.

Hope this helps. I'll PM my email to you & neer.g  and we can test it out with a dummy file

To decrypt, drag the KLee.txt.aes file to the AESCrypt.app icon, enter password and the a copy of decrypted file KLee.txt will appear in the finder.

So much trouble bcos of "Trust noone" Smiley

I am OK with option 3 also.  I am currently setting up two new accounts in support of James / NXTcash.  These will be NXTcashoperatingfund and NXTcashcompletionbonusfund.  Once I've got these set up, I'll get back to you guys with three passwords to cycle through this process.

Somebody (apparently a founder of QixCoin) really doesn't seem to like Etherium.  Here are some of his main criticisms, interesting to consider from a NXT point of view:

Too bad we don't have real world people mentioned in real world press releases like this.

Don't forget that we r decentralized. When u find such people - don't make them the leaders.

I understand the difference between leaders and spokespeople.  I think NXT needs spokespeople.  Preferably cute females.  Or old guys willing to make a fool of themselves in front of a crowd at the Texas Bitcoin Conference.  But with so much of the NXT Secret Plan still under wraps, it's really hard for spokespeople to know just what to say...

cannot sleap, too much weed..
- I am finishing the text "Decentralized internet and Nxt solutions", so I hope it will get some comments from the community and them we can send it to big mainstream media and get attention from guys like Kim Dotcom or Assagne. As was said, contact with Kim is possible, but we need to show him this text first Smiley

Somehow, when I asked the question of how to do better at our public relations face, I didn't think the answer would be too much weed, Kim Dotcom and Julian Assagne.

298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Put proposals and bounties on the wiki on: February 10, 2014, 04:07:24 AM
Thanks for the comments everyone. Smiley But instead of having everyone else scroll past this o(n^2) collection of quote pyraminds (from original post, through each reply) to get through the thread, we could have an O(n) discussion in the wiki Discussion page instead.  Wink

I've moved the convo over and added my reply: http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_Proposals . See how much cleaner this is than ever-growing quote pyramids? Take a look at this and this for some idea of how a longer convo can look like and be managed.

Wikipedians have been used to (semi-)decentralized organization and article editing for years now. We could borrow the methods they use.

We can use this main thread to link to discussions we've started. The wiki has a Watchlist feature (similar to forum watchlists) to help you keep track of what's been changed (including replies to your own comments). Click the star on a page to add it to your watchlist.

James, and everyone, how does this approach sound? Shall we give it a try? Smiley

EDIT:

After that, http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/List_of_Proposals was created with the idea that maybe this could be the hub for all (your) ideas.

I didn't create it in response to James' ideas specifically, it was in response to the general mess this thread has become (c.f. the quote pyramid above that you yourself contributed to!). If you check the List of Bounties and Proposal's page history, I created it many days ago. I already had the hub in mind.  I've been trying, desperately, for the past week+, to get people to try other communication methods (like diaspora*). It's exhausting...

Zahlem, I want to give your idea a chance to work because it is a good idea.  So I am going to try and use it right here, right now.

I want to understand how the blockchain works on a detailed level.  I want to write up an interface control document (ICD) for the structure of an NXT block.  How big is an NXT  block in bytes?  How many bytes are allocated to what function?  Are there variable sized blocks depending on what is in them?  If you, yes YOU,  are reading these words and know ANY information at all on how the NXT blocks are structured, make zahlen (and me!) a happy man by posting not on this thread, but at least one single sentence (or more!) on this wiki page:

http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/How_block_generation_works

Thanks!!!

Too bad we don't have real world people mentioned in real world press releases like this.  It would go a long way to boosting NXT acceptance, adoption, and exchange price.

So...what would it take to do better at our public relations face to the public?  What is the next major milestone we could announce to the world?
300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 10, 2014, 12:31:39 AM

By the way, the community has made it loud and clear that it does NOT want my ideas unless I have a totally vetted and complete solution. Since I was posting ideas to help get them vetted and complete, that means I do not see how I can directly help the NXT community at this point. It seems there is no perceived value in coming up with ideas, even ones that allow us to compete effectively with etherium, and no perceived value in being a project manager.

I put so much time and effort into NXT, it is disappointing to be rejected like this. How would you feel if your ideas were compared to a Ddos attack and then that was +1 many times?? Sorry but I am not Dr Evil, I am not smart enough to solve the tech issues on my own. THAT is why I posted my unfinished ideas, to get help. Anybody can say it is impossible forget about it. I was hoping someone would say maybe there was a way to reduce the problem to a simpler form.

Anyway, I dont want to overstay my welcome so I will limit myself to a most one post per day. I hope that wont be too much of a bother for people to read. i will continue administering the NXTcommunityfund. Once the three committees are fully up and running and if the main funders of the NXTcommunityfund want me to, I will disburse the NXTcommunityfund (minus some amount for rainy day fund) to the three committees or hand over trusteeship to whomever they choose. I dont want anybody to feel like I have so much centralized power that I might actually hurt NXT.

If anybody has actually started on any NXTcommunityfund bounties, let me know. I know of only the tipbot project and acceptance of NXT on websites project. Unless somebody posts that they are actively working on any of the other bounties, I think that it is best that they all be canceled. Wouldnt want to distract anybody from doing things that are actually important by working on my bounties that everybody feels is worthless.

Oh, rickyjames, please pay Zahlen and salsacz 500 NXT. I believe that concludes any current pending NXTcommunityfund business.

I have to pay my bills and at this point I have to either work on my ideas by myself since nobody will constructively help me or accept some external projects that I have been offered.

James

Edit: I hope people here will think I at least did some good by helping getting the unclaimed NXT released to the three committees. I feel that was a big positive, but then again I am probably wrong about that too.

As treasurer of the NXTcommunityfund, I will disburse 1000 NXT per your directions above.

James, buddy, listen to me.  Nobody here is your adversary or enemy.  You are obviously a very smart guy.  Every single one of the ideas you have presented has great merit.  You were given sole control of the NXTcommunityfund because several people believe in you and your ideas and still do.  You are held in great esteem by everybody in this thread.

But this thread is a crazy roller coaster ride.  It strains everybody's abilities just to hang on for the ride.  We all do it because if something interesting about NXT is going to pop up, it's probably going to pop up here first.  But it takes everybody's personal mental bandwidth just to process these posts.

You are so prolific that we just can't keep up with you in this kind of an environment.   Other, more appropriate environments elsewhere have been suggested where we CAN keep up.  Before you bail out on us and NXT, PLEASE try them.

Everybody has a bad day/week/longer sometimes where things don't go their way and the path ahead looks bleak.  If it's your time in the barrel for that, don't make a huge swing of the pendulum to "limiting yourself to at most one post daily".  Go with the flow and try to adapt.  Talk about one of your ideas and keep talking about it.  See how far you can go with it.  Nobody here is expecting you to solve all NXT's problems tomorrow all by yourself.  Don't expect that of yourself either.

Relax.  Don't panic.  Stay calm and carry on.
